If you're tired of the brioche French toasts of Feast and the coffee martinis of Farm, look westward! Cozy Table is a down-home diner that makes up for the calories you burn waiting for a seat with a huge array of hearty breakfast (and lunch and dinner) options. Lots of eggs, meat, pancakes, etc.; not too out of the ordinary, but done well and with a lot of options. My recommendation: grab yourself one of the skillets, which consist of eggs on top of various other ingredients on top of hash browns. You can keep it simple with the cheesy Hobo Skillet or go international with the chorizo-and-jalapeño Mexican Skillet. I opted for the Western: ham, cheese, and peppers. It needed a little hot sauce, but it was altogether satisfying. The skillets come with a choice of toast or pancakes, so carb it up! I also got the biscuits and gravy, which are good and heavy - totally unnecessary with a skillet, though. The atmosphere is a bustling and casual one, the service is fast and polite. I'm am oatmeal and blueberry guy but do go for biscuits and gravy from time to time and know good gravy. This was not very good gravy. Lots of gravy, yes, but lots of good gravy, no. Undertoasted English Muffins, overly sweet, cheap syrup did not help. Eggs were perfect and coffee was always in my mug. Service was superb, even for a Saturday. Pretty creative offerings but taste was lacking. Prices were excellent. Lots of food, lots of selections so if you are hungry for a lot for not a lot, I think you'd give this place **** or maybe even *****. It is just not my cup of joe. read more

Great food, great service, and even better prices! I ordered an $8 patty melt meal, it came with a wonderful beef soup and the perfect crispy fries that only few places have. My boyfriend ordered a $10 steak breakfast, it came with hash browns, 2 oddly delicious pancakes (clearly made from scratch), a huge side of hash browns, and eggs. I really don't know how this place has such good reviews. I don't need my restaurants to be fancy, but a basic level of cleanliness is expected. The place is so dirty. The window blinds right next to our table we covered it dust and dirt. I didn't even want to touch the salt and pepper shakers. When we got to our table, our mugs were turned face down on the table, with nothing underneath them. So the part the rim of the cup was touching the questionably clean table. I turned my mug over and there was dirt on the rim. The waiter brought be another cup and the handle felt a little sticky. The hash browns were under cooked. The biscuits and gravy were bland, and the sausage in it looked pink. I came into this place with an open mind, and was thoroughly grossed out. I think even greasy spoons shouldn't be covered in a layer of dust and dirt. I could MAYBE have gotten over the filth if the food was good, but it wasn't. read more

I didn't even realize that this was a restaurant at first. After discovering the place a month ago, I've been at least 10 times! The pricing is great, the food comes out RAPID FAST and PIPING HOT. Probably the fastest sit down service for breakfast in Bloomington Period. Obviously at their price point you won't find the lavish offerings of 20 different types of coffees and teas like Runcible Spoon, but if you can come down to Earth and appreciate the simple things this place is a GEM. read more

I mean, a cheap delicious diner. I've only been. I'm sure it'll have it's quirks, but isn't that what we want/expect for a hole in the wall diner? The place has a funky and almost unintentionally hip international (is it an Italian or Greek place perhaps?), but also southern Indiana towny feel. Bizarre but also pretty awesome. The food is cheap and you can tell. Maybe don't expect fresh fruit, veggies, or high quality inputs and don't order the eggs Benedict. But that doesn't really take away from the fact that it tastes good (it's all relative, eh?). I can't speak for the lunch food expect sandwiches (to me this is a breakfast place). But just come here for some yummy 1 star food (egg skillets, pancakes, bacon etc) and a funky diner and (hopefully) you won't be disappointed! read more

Do NOT go here if you want good customer service. Today I received cold hash browns, tough ham, and biscuits and gravy with pink sausage. According to the incredibly rude manager, the sausage is pre-cooked. She offered us NOTHING in reimbursement, not even different food. This is not the first time I've had bad service. A few weeks ago I got a burger with a long hair in it. I was at least offered different food, and although I had only taken 2 bites and did not feel hungry for another burger after that, I was not offered anything else. Might have just found a new go to breakfast spot in Bloomington! Not only does the Cozy Table have great and friendly service, their food is never disappointing. With a greek theme interior and greek aspects to the menu, how could you go possibly go wrong! I think this is the best place for breakfast in Bloomington. We have not tried the other menu items, but it does look interesting. First, the breakfasts are huge!!!! Come hungry and prepare not to eat again until dinner. Fast and friendly service, even when they are busy. I think this is the big reason we keep going to Cozy Table. You can get in, eat and get on with your day. Can't say the same for other places in town (Village Deli). We have not been back to the Deli in a very long time and I am fine with that. read more

We were in town for the Tecumseh Trail Marathon. The race didn't start until 10 a.m. so we had time to find ourselves a local diner for breakfast. What a great place to load up prior to a 26.2 mile trail run. Cozy Table serves a 5 egg omelette as their standard size! That's 5 eggs, folks! Their omelettes also come with 2 plate-sized pancakes plus hashbrowns, all for $6.99. The service was speedy and seriously, all the locals were eating here. I just had what I will call one of THEE most disgusting restaurant experiences in my entire nearly 50-yr life. I was enjoying the country fried steak breakfast with sausage gravy and eggs. I had taken about 3 bites of my fried steak when I noticed something orange underneath. I pushed the steak over a little more and a hunk of old cheese glued onto the plate became exposed. I moved the steak back further and pieces of onions and more cheese and some kind of stain from something else was underneath my steak. It was CLEAR that my food had been put onto a used, dirty plate that had not been cleaned. After calling over the waitress who agreed that it looked like I had been given a used plate, she asked if I wanted my meal re-made. I hesitated, but agreed. I got NO apology from the management and NO discount. The owner stood in the corner looking smugly during our entire meal. I will never ever EVER step foot in this establishment again. The waitress was pleasant enough and she tried, but the way the manager handled the situation was piss poor. DISGUSTING. I STRONGLY recommend people avoid this place. In Bloomington's lower west side, just off of 3rd street between Cashland and Autozone, sits a quaint, square building lined with large glass windows and bordered with red-brick. In contrast to the brisk December air, the temperature inside is a comfortable 72 degrees and you'll find Christmas ornaments hung from the ceiling and stockings inside the table booth walls. Each booth even has its own coat hangers, so you can sit without awkwardly stuffing your coat to the side. Its a wonder they call this local favorite, The Cozy Table. If you come during peak hours, typically Sunday's from 9am - 12pm, there is no need to worry. This staff of middle aged, veteran waitresses has been serving here since before you were born, and wouldn't flinch if the restaurant turned into a combat zone. They also notice the smallest of cues, for instance - I turned my coffee mug right side up, (they are initially set face down), and the waitress immediately asked if I wanted coffee. She came back throughout the meal to refill as needed. After you order, the hand-written check is placed on the table for you to pay up front whenever you feel like leaving. These gals are efficient but not rude; supportive but not annoying. I came here ten minutes after chowing down on McDonald's breakfast, and the food was still f***ing good. The menu has a wide selection of Belgian waffles, eggs, omelets, pancakes, biscuits and gravy, soups, and Panini sandwiches. The Belgian waffles are topped delicately with whipped cream and luscious strawberries, while the biscuits and gravy are savory, dense, and down right American. All in all, The Cozy Table is like a Tom Cruise movie, not Oscar material, but definitely satiating and slightly better than you were expecting. read more

We are from Chicago and one of the things that I find that I miss are the greek diners. There they are all over the place with their expansive menus and good food. Fortunately we found one in Bloomington! We botth got breakfast. I ordered an omelet and my husband ordered a skillet. The server was right on top of things and the food came in no time. I've had better breakfast/brunch. But not in Bloomington. And I have tried almost everywhere. And most breakfasts in Bloomington are not as cheap as the Cozy Table. If you care about the creativity of your food, or think price represents quality, then you're looking in the wrong place. But if you want something that just tastes like a good American Brunch, Cozy Table is it. I was surprised by how few people associated with the university came here until I realized that the clientele (many of the stereotypes of the west side of Bloomington) turns a lot of people off. First visit proved disappointing. I chose meatloaf Manhattan style for lunch and a side salad. The salad bowls arrived with fresh crispy Iceberg lettuce and a pouch of salad dressing proudly sitting atop. Before I completed my salad the meatloaf special arrived. I had a platter full of white bread topped with burned dry meatloaf (lacking any evidence of seasonings or any of the other items we usually mix into a meatloaf) and a heaping helping of mashed potatoes. The entire platter was swimming with brown gravy. The watery gravy had a peculiar flavor/additive that did not compliment the meal in any way. Our sweet little waitress never once asked how we liked our food or if everything was ok. She must have been wise to that whole mess. I hear breakfasts are good. She then says she spoke to the manager and we go up to pay and I am waiting with the manager standing there on the phone and another crawls down the wall and I point and she says "yeah they are spraying" lol WHAT?! My ex wife and I were regulars here. Didn't know the staff well but we all knew each other's faces. Not sure if it was the owner or the manager, but we ate there once and the credit card machine was broken. Neither of us ever carry cash so I offered to drive to an ATM while my wife and son waited. She told us not to worry about it and to try and remember the amount when we come back next time. If not she said it's nbd and not our fault. Amazing service. Found Cozy Cafe via Yelp and was very satisfied. Had a great Saturday mid-afternoon breakfast. An omelette that sounded very 'heavy' on the menu was absolutely delicious. How they put all those ingredients into a five-egg omelette (we shared it) and made it taste light is a wonder. The french toast was delicious too and the link sausage was the best. One suggestion I have is that they expand their hot tea offerings beyond Lipton. Will definitely be back when we are in town visiting our IU student. read more

I can't imagine why anyone would give them more than one star! All I wanted was a simple greasy spoon breakfast and this place looked like the greasiest spoon in town. The bacon was strange and dry and when I asked for it less cooked it didn't even resemble bacon...how the fuck do you ruin BACON?!. I know eggs over medium is a little tricky, but what I got was an undercooked over easy. Normally if you send back an undercooked egg what you get is an over cooked egg, but after three tries I was still getting over easy!! And the pancake was dry like it sat under lights for half an hour. After explaining that my entire breakfast was inedible they never offered to take it off the bill like a normal restaurant would.
