They came with a nice tangy sauce, and I ordered a drink. My shrimp were great the texture was nice and they were not fried too hard and it had a nice batter. What you see photos of is one pound of delicious shrimp. It is an outdated drive thru, and you are ready to quickly pull out once you get your order. The staff was nice and friendly and my order was prepared in a reasonable amount of time. The reason for my 3 stars is because of the time it took them to acknowledge me when I arrived to the speaker. The reason for my rating of the atmosphere was just the layout of the drive thru. I haven't been to Bob's Shrimp maybe in a couple of years and I say things have changed and not for the good. The shrimp didn't taste as fresh. They weren't as scrumptious as they once was, they've gotten smaller. The breading was salty , not very salty but salty they just wasn't as good as they used to be And I spent about $80 04 orders of the jumbo shrimp and we were all greatly disappointed will not be returning. When I tell you their shrimp is top notch!! I mean top notch. Made to order always hot and crispy. I used to reside in Calumet City which is how I found them years ago. Now I reside in Park Forest which is a 30 minute commute one way without traffic. Now the place does need a lot of improvement visually you would think "I wouldn't dare eat here". So the fish was thin crunchy fillets and kind of bland ( it was true catfish and not swai) but the taste just wasn't good for me. The jumbo shrimp were also fried hard the shrimp inside was cooked perfect but the crust was thick and dry. The fries were ok but seriously for the price I thought the food could've been better. So recently one of my cousins had some food she had too much of and wanted to share, at first I hesitated because I don't like taking other peoples food they spent their hard earned money on. But then I found out she had a pound of shrimp, so I'd figure why not try one! One won't hurt, right? So with the encouragement of one of my other cousins, I tried it and with one bite I was HOOKED and couldn't stop thinking about those shrimp until I went to get some myself after about a month or a few weeks. It took me some time to finally visit this place because of their hours and the fact that I live NO WHERE near here. Let's just say these are some of the best, fast food, fried Jumbo shrimp , I have ever tasted. They are so good, just talking about them makes me want MORE. Now I can't tell you if this is my first time having these shrimp or not because I may have visited this place before when I was younger with my family, but this is definitely the first time I can remember visiting since I've been an adult. My review is based solely on the food, drive thru and drive thru service. I didn't go inside, even though I probably should have because the drive thru took forever. So, I arrived here and I would say was able to put my order in fairly quickly in the drive through. If you go here at night, just be safe, lock your doors and keep a watchful eye. But I'd definitely recommend going here in the daylight, especially if you opt for the drive through. Always look for the special or ask them about it, I believe they always have the $9.99 Jumbo fried shrimp special, and that's for a pound of shrimp. And don't forget the cocktail sauce, please!! Ask for extra too, I believe it's .55 extra for extra sauce but it's worth it, especially if you have a pound of shrimp. Once my order was placed, I feel as if we waited in the drive through for about 30-40 mins, at least that's what it felt like. There were maybe 5 cars ahead of me but none of them were moving, mainly because their orders were being prepared. It took us about 30-40 mins to finally get our shrimp. I have never in my life set in a drive through that long for food, so that tells you something about the shrimp. The guy at the drive thru was cool, he wasn't rude or anything, he just wanted to get you your food and get to the next person. No issues there, I wouldn't say the customer service was 5 stars but the guy did his job without any problems. Once I finally got my shrimp, I was so happy and my belly was happy too. I took one bite and looked at my bestie and said, "see why I like these so much". I was impressed and happy and just thinking about it makes me want more, NOW. It was his first time trying them and he was pretty happy too. We were pretty content after eating. So, as you can probably tell, I would definitely return here, quite often if I lived closer. My only issue is the wait time, the next time I order here, I will see if I can call my order in and pick it up inside so I don't have to wait long. EVERY Chicagoan I know that lives someplace else in the country can't wait to come home to do a 'food run' to their favorite places. Of ALL the places I've had jumbo fried shrimp in the world, THIS is my favorite place to get them (except for a little roadside cafe in Puntarenas, Costa Rica)! Let me break this down for you. Shrimp should TASTE like shrimp with the very first bite. The breading should compliment the taste of the shrimp, not become the dominant flavor or be overly fussy and thick. Well not sure how I want to start off with this review. I know in the past when I was younger this place was really good, and I am unsure if they have new owners or if the quality went down or what the hell is going on. Sadly as time goes by quality is not there with a lot of places. I am being nice by giving this place 3 stars when it should probably be 1 or 2 stars, I say this because what I was told when my partner got home from getting us food. I will note we only got food from here because Bob's Shrimp was closed in Hammond, IN. It is sad to hear, but I am not surprised that there was poor customer service as I have been hearing from this place, because it was never like that before, but I guess in time some business good customer service skills go out the window, or they just hire people who have no respect for people. So how is it a person places an order and their number is never called, but yet customers are coming and going placing orders and their orders are ready before ours, that is bar customer service right there, or something else and I am not going to go where I want too. Also I want to give a warning to the owner of the location on this mark as I am not feeling well tonight, if I get sick I will be calling the health inspector on your location. But last time I checked coleslaw is not suppose to have a fishy after taste in it, and our coleslaw had a fishy after taste, the oysters as well had a fishy after taste no seafood is suppose to have that kind of a taste at all, unless your seafood is not fresh, which means you are either going to get someone sick or kill someone with food poisoning. I highly recommend checking your stock and making sure it is fresh and checking to see who in the hell is making the coleslaw as not slaw is suppose to taste fishy. Unless you are cutting everything on the same cutting board. The only thing of our entire meal that had some decent quality was the medium shrimp, which sad to say our shrimp may have been over cooked, I had some pieces of shrimp that were chewy which only means either few days old or you over cooked / fried them. I am not trying to criticize the owner here even though it seems like it, but I assure you if I was I would be hell lot harsher with my words, seeing I do a lot of reviews for locations. I try to be as honest as I can. Your girls at your location need a wake up call too, not to treat their customers like crap, and when wrong and called out on it, need to apologize for their actions, not just look at their customer all stupid. You guys made my partner wait for her food 20 minutes, she was talking to another customers that asked her if her food was done yet, when she asked for it, they were like oh it has been done for a while now, but still do not call her number, she has to go ask for her food, that is wrong, not service we have ever gotten anywhere else, and sadly this location use to be better with service and food quality as my parents use to order from you guys all the time. This is the very first time ever that my jumbo shrimp weren't fully deveined. I'm not sure who wa working the kitchen on 05/05/20 late morning but they're frying poop filled shrimp. Heartbreaking! Went to the shrimp shack down the street but they were out of jumbo shrimp. So I thought I'd give this place a try. that was a mistake.Terrible. Ordered the jumbo shrimp dinner $13.15 later did not like it. Breading very thick and flavorless and ruff, almost cut my tongue. There's no place to sit so you have to eat it in your car if you want to eat it when it's hot. The fries were chewy, the coleslaw was like eating baby food. The only thing it had going for it was the mild sauce was actually pretty good. Other than that don't waste your time. Shrimp shack down the street is way better when they're not out of shrimp. The breading didn't have flavor either but I was eating with cocktail sauce and hot sauce so you can deal. Well what I cannot deal with is uncleaned shrimp. In the middle of eating a shrimp I noticed the lovely shrimp poop. Ok so I stop eating that piece and think maybe some of them are cleaned. WRONG! I counted about 15 shrimp a pound; my partner and I were greedy so we ordered 2 pounds. Next time it'll be 4 pounds. One good thing about these shrimp...they had no tail on them so you could eat the whole thing. Even if you try to wait until you get home, you just gotta try one before you leave the parking lot!! Their menu is really impressive too, frog legs were about $9/lb, catfish nuggets were $5.45/lb. I normally don't like shrimp sauce but theirs is very good!!! Not a strong vinegar taste to it; instead, almost like bbq sauce, only lighter in color and a bit sweeter in comparison to regular cocktail sauce. The breading is light, not heavily overloaded where there's 90% breading and %10 shrimp. They are jumbo, and it's the largest shrimp they have. There's no use ordering 1/2 lb, as that's just a teaser and will make you kick yourself for not having more. It's not real expensive, but not something you can have every weekend unless you just got money like that!! Try to get there before 8pm as it seems that's when the place fills up. There is also a sign that says they need $1/$5 bills, so if you just happen to have some that you would like to exchange, they'll happily give you a larger bill for the smaller ones. They do not take credit so stop by an ATM before you head it. You will not be disappointed in the selection, the size of the portions or the taste. We're a total 1000% fan of this joint now. The jumbo shrimp were huge and they pull the tails before frying so you get to enjoy every single morsel. The batter was the perfect amount and flavor. The coleslaw was the good creamy kind and the cocktail sauce was pretty unique (more like a cocktail meets BBQ flavor. My husband and I shared this order and were both stuffed. They only take cash so hit up the ATM beforehand. There's a drive-thru but it doesn't seem too inviting (pull directly to the window to order and there's no lights on that side of the building). I can only speak for the recent change in menu. It appears the menu was just changed on 7/17/2015 and they no longer offer many of the combination plates from the past. I usually come for the jumbo shrimp when in town, but I decided to just go with the normal size shrimp. You get around 9 shrimp for around $9.50. The shrimp was not well seasoned and batter/coating was too crunchy. The fries have absolutely no seasoning whatsoever :( Also, "Cash only" limits their customer base in my opinion. Usually I really enjoy the food and the service here. Despite the hours of operation being sketchy I've tried to support this place. Today was my last visit ever! The medium shrimp were like small salad shrimp. I ordered ahead and was not told the medium and jumbo were the same price. Although the jumbo were bigger when I asked why, the clerk with a nasty tone said " you should have asked if they were on sale why would I just tell you." At that point I was done with this place.
