Long overdue review because we've been coming to Crab Town almost ten years and somehow never wrote one! Our usual order is the shrimp + crawfish mix with Crab Town medium or spicy sauce depending on our mood, and it never disappoints. The fried shrimp is so good, the gumbo is flavorful and comforting, and the fried fish and fries always hit the spot too. What really keeps us coming back, though, is the people. We absolutely adore the staff here, especially the familiar faces we've seen throughout the years. No matter how much time has passed between visits, they remember us and always take a few minutes to catch up, which makes this place feel so welcoming and personal. There was no wait on Sunday afternoon. I came with four of my girl friends, two of whom are vegetarian/vegan. We chose this spot specifically because they had called ahead to ask if there are vegan options. I was so happy that a place that does seafood boils is able to accommodate my friends with a vegan sauce in a veggie bag! They both enjoyed their meal. As for the others, we each got 1lb shrimp bags, which we also enjoyed. Two of us had the Crab Town sauce which is a mixture of everything, but we tried the Garlic Butter in Old Bay and liked that better. We preferred the salty savory flavor of it over the Crab Town sauce. The shrimp were large and juicy and we had leftovers to go! The side order of garlic noodles and gumbo were also perfect to share and tasted great. The service was top notch and friendly, with our servers always checking in on us to make sure we were doing okay. Came here for happy hour on a weekday which was perfect because it wasn't too busy and there was plenty of parking. The atmosphere is very nautical and fun - plus the staff here were very friendly and professional. I only came here to try the happy hour but eventually ended up getting a seafood boil bag as well. The oysters here are pretty tasty. I'm not much of an oyster girl, but my boyfriend ordered some and I decided to give it a try. It tasted fresh and surprisingly the texture was different from ones I've had in the past. I was told that the oysters arrived the same day just a few hours before I arrived. It doesn't get any fresher than that. Me and my boyfriend ordered a mini combo (which is not pictured because we were so hungry). But the crab town sauce is really good. And if you're like me and don't have a high spice tolerance they have a mild option. Overall the food, service, and prices were amazing. Especially if you come in during their happy hour. We shared a mini combo for $42 which consist of a half pound of clams, mussels, shrimp, craw fish, sausages, with corn and potatoes in Crab Town sauce medium spice. In terms of decor and the setup my only complaint is there booths have no padding so it is just sitting on hard wood . The food was decently priced we had gotten two mini combos ($42 each) . This place is an instant favorite of mine. Me and my family have tried boiling crab and crab hut, but crab town is above and beyond our favorite. Parking is easy to find in the lot outside. Once inside on a weekday night, we were seated immediately. Christina, our server, went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of and that our dinner experience was enjoyable even with our 15 month old. I think maybe with the shirmp it wasn't able to soak/penetrate through the shell - it wasn't bad at all - I think in comparison I just liked the other place better; and sauce volume varied in one bag vs another bag. With that said, i'd still come back here because it's a good spot. Some really good happy hour deals too. Other: We got moderate and spicy and the spicy one creeps up on you. I'm not someone who typically leaves negative reviews, especially when the food is actually decent. The ambiance was casual and fun--great for seafood lovers and families. We've been eating here on a monthly basis, but would NEVER come back again. But during a recent afternoon visit with my 4-year-old son, I ordered a half portion of snow crab ($19), some boiled veggies, and a kid's meal. The crab came out in a plastic bag with two clusters. Since they were hot, I placed them on my plate to cool while we started eating. Then something truly shocking happened: A staff member came back and told me they had accidentally served me a full portion instead of a half, and asked if I'd like to pay more. I politely said no, since I had only ordered a half. She then put on gloves, reached into my plate, and took one of the crab clusters away--clearly intending to serve it to someone else. This was incredibly disturbing. If staff are allowed to take food from a customer's plate and return it to the kitchen, what does that say about their hygiene practices behind the scenes? No matter how decent the food might be, this kind of behavior is unacceptable. Customers deserve to know their food hasn't been previously handled or served to others. read more

One of my favorite seafood boil spots in San Diego! Prices are amazing compared to their competitors and food is always served fresh and packed full of flavor (my favorite sauce is their Crab Town sauce or their Garlic Butter with Old Bay). A huge plus is that their parking lot is spacious with plenty of spots available. Upon entering, you are greeted by staff and seated. Restaurant itself is a decent size with numerous booths and tables that are able to accommodate large parties. They also have a great happy hour on weekdays (Monday-Friday from 3-6pm) along with different daily specials throughout the week. As for the seafood boils, we love to get their Mini Combo with their house Crab Town sauce, Medium level. The spice is not overwhelming like other places can be. They have a variety of pre-set combos or you can make your own bag however you like! Service is always attentive with friendly workers who constantly check up on you. We seasoned it with their "Crab town" combination of original, lemon pepper and garlic butter sauces. Ended up a bit salty but very savory! Side of garlic bread and their combo of curly, sweet potato and Cajun fries. The combo is brought in a bag, you put on plastic aprons, and you feast with your hands on a butcher block of paper spread over the table. Usually crawfish has little to no meat but these crawfish were pretty meaty. Would have preferred more crab and did not eat any of the sausage so next time will probably go for a double Half n Half combo which is crab, shrimp, corn and potato only. With all the potato and other food in that $100 combo bag, for two people there was no need to get any bread or garlic. Also brought home a take out order of king and snow crab which came in at total $91 for both. With tip everything came to $271 which is a little excessive but then crab prices vary wildly in supermarkets these days anywhere from 5.99 to 41. a pound. I assume crab town is getting their crab around 5 a pound and increasing the price 8-11X which of course it's a restaurant and that's what restaurants do. Fast friendly service. read more

Located in a small strip mall, solid nautical theme throughout the restaurant. Very clean environment, soft rock playing and multiple TV's broadcasting live sporting events. Entering the restaurant we were greeted warmly and invited to sit down wherever we liked. Nate, our server, came within a minute with menus and took our drink orders. After a few minutes he circled back with our drinks and offered to answer any questions we had about the menu. We decided on the crab town combo boil with a spicy level of 1. After 10 minutes we had our crab boil delivered in a heavy plastic bag, piping hot and smelling amazingly delicious I might add! Wow!!! We had king crab, snow crab, mussels, shrimp, potatoes, andouille sausage and corn on the cob smothered in their house sauce.
