Overall delicious boil and the mild sauce had a little bit of kick that is perfect for a table of people with mixed spice levels. We all split the Go to Town with added snow crab and head on shrimp - everything was perfectly portioned but it did feel like the bag was short on some of the essentials like clams, mussels, and sausage. To be fair there was ample crab, crawfish, and shrimp for everyone, but the lack of the other components is what kept this from being a perfect 5. I came here sooooo much in the past when they first opened here. This review is based on my love for it from the beginning. I've been to all other locations from downtown to the one in mira mesa but this location was OG to me. I like the vibe and atmosphere. The theme is what drew me here to begin with but then again that time cajun boil was such hype. Service has always been excellent. Not one time was someone inattentive or "lazy". However the music can get loud. Sometimes they played country music which was nice. Actually maybe it was just the one time. Sometimes the employees played their songs. My favorites are are the sweet potatoes fries, calamari, fried fish and ranch. Their ranch was always so good! I always get 2 llbs of shrimp in full house extra spicy. The full house is really the best. Also they've got good chowder and clams and chicken wings. Also for their happy hours daily 3-7 half off oysters and some discounted wines. At some of the locations at the bar you can get discounted popcorn shrimp and crab poppers. And now they have happy hour every Tuesday all day. First of all, the parking lot is insane around dinner time. When you get inside, you are treated warmly by the staff. Very friendly and attentive. Service was excellent. The food was good. Got the wings during happy hour. $0.75 a wing. We got the sauce on the side. The wings were good. Crispy on the outside and moist in the inside. The garlic bread was good. Had a layer of cheese on top. With the knife I was given, I destroyed the bread trying to cut into pieces. Really liked the spicy Cajun chicken pasta. Not very spicy. Chicken was tender. Place was clean. When we got there, plenty of seating. But, after about 15 mins, the place was packed with a line forming outside. We came in with a large party of 10 on a Friday night and got seated right away. The server was attentive and got waters for the table right away. We ended up getting 4 2lbs bags of shrimp and mix of items. We also got some appetizers to share (fried, calamari, and wings) the fries were great, they were cooked nicely with a crunch. The wings had a nice crispy Cajon flavor. We were celebrating my husband's aunts birthday and they made sure to bring her the crab hat and her birthday ice cream. I've been coming to Crab Hut for over 12 years, basically since I moved to San Diego, and I rarely write reviews, so the fact that I'm writing this says a lot. Since the downtown location closed, I decided to visit the Kearny Mesa location, which is already inconvenient because of the parking situation. I only eat snow crab when it comes to seafood, besides fried fish. Other types of seafood don't sit well with me, so I've always substituted items I don't or can't eat. I've done this plenty of times at Crab Hut before without an issue. This time, the waitress seemed confused by my request, so she asked her manager, who happened to be walking by. Instead of stopping, acknowledging her, or even making eye contact, he loudly said, "No," and kept walking. I stopped him because, first of all, I thought the way he spoke to the waitress was rude. He then tried to tell me that substitutions have "never been a thing." I've been coming to Crab Hut for over 12 years and have never been told that before, so I asked if this was a new policy. He said no and claimed it had "always been like this." Okay... What made even less sense was that they then offered me a different meal and said they could substitute the shrimp for sausage which is literally a substitution. So how do you not allow substitutions but then offer me one? For context, I asked to substitute the king crab for something else because I don't eat king crab, or any other seafood besides SNOWCRAB. I wasn't asking for anything specific or trying to get something more expensive. King crab is already one of the more costly items on the menu. The biggest issue wasn't even being told no. It was the manager's attitude. He was rude, condescending, snarky, and unnecessarily sassy throughout the interaction. The customer service on his part was extremely disappointing, especially toward the waiter and someone who has supported this restaurant for over a decade. I barely write reviews, but this experience was disappointing enough that I felt the need to share it. Poor customer service from management can completely ruin an experience, and unfortunately, that's exactly what happened here. read more

Visited crab hut with my husband for a little crab boil, and we haven't been to Crab Hut in a long time. There wasn't too much of a wait time, we were promptly greeted when we walked in. I do appreciate that they inform you of the automatic 18% gratuity that's added on all checks and they asked us if we still wanted to dine in . It wasn't a problem for us and we appreciated the heads up. We started with oysters as appetizers and I had a lb of shrimp with a side of garlic noodles, which was really good. My husband ended up with one of the buckets with all different types of seafood and crab legs in it. We got the Shabam with all the sauces in it, which was super delicious. I like the texture of the wings and how crispy it was on the outside. You get 2 ranch and 2 ketchup with it. I ordered the Cajun chicken pasta to share with my husband. Let me tell you...that was the biggest pasta portion I ever seen in my life at a restaurant. It was an amazing amount of pasta!!!! I enjoyed the pasta, it was cheesy a bit of garlic with some spice. My husband loved the shrimp; he was eating it up. We got a whole table cover, gloves, bib, and a mini trash on our table. I love how well the staff work together. They were so efficient and organized. I've witness multiple staff members work together to clean a mess at a table and put up new cleaning materials for new customers. You can tell they care about their job. Also would love to recognize Kevin our server. Kevin was outstanding. He was tentative and caring. He would refill our drinks without asking. Typically get 1lb of shrimp with either 1lb of crab legs and/or 1/2lb of sausage all in the same bag in medium full house spice and a side of rice which is plenty for 2 people. Ever since the renovations, this place is more open and spacious. The majority of staff are nice, but customer service can dwindle during crowded times. This is a great spot for families and hanging out with friends, just prepared to get messy! They do offer bibs, and you can request gloves if not already offered by your waiter/waitress.
