It was so flavorful and really made the seafood even better. I also loved that you can choose your own spice level, so you can customize it depending on how much heat you can handle. These were so good because they actually use real crab, which made them taste even better and feel a little more elevated than your typical crab rangoon. First Seafood boil experience and was amazing. We made a reservation for Friday at 7:15. Walked right in, the place was clean, calm and quiet. Parking was really the only hassle but it's convoy so that's to be expected. Towards the end they did pick up in service so it got louder but again, iys à Friday night. We ordered combo #4 with 1.5 snow crab, shrimp and mussels. Between us two, that was more than enough. We even had leftovers to being home. Their torpedo sauce was thick and seasoned perfectly. The snow crab was sweet and tender, the shrimp cooked perfectly and the mussels was clean and tender. Apart from that, we added an order of egg, a Sapporo, and a lychee soju coming to around $130 before tip. I loved that they gave us everything (plates, gloves, bib, drinks, lemons, etc) in the beginning so when the seafood boil came out we were ready to big in. They also don't automatically bump it onto the table. It stayed warm and covered in sauce for longer. You are more than welcome to bump it though. The best seafood boil in all of San Diego in my opinion, and I've tried many places (yes, including Crab Hut). The main reasons why this is my top spot are: -Seafood Quality - the clams here are BIG and don't fall out of the shell, and the shrimp is always perfectly cooked and not mealy. The crab clusters are big and juicy as well. -Sauce - I always get the Torpedo Sauce (the house mix-of-all-of-them sauce) but instead of just tasting like garlic, lemon, old bay, "the sum is equal to more than the parts". In other words, the flavors meld together and are magical. I have heard some say that the sauce here leans sweet, and it definitely does have sugar, but I find it balanced. Also, it is mostly emulsified and does not have a thick layer of pure oil that runs off the seafood like some places' sauces. -Other Factors: they used to have a free fries deal for posting on social media (gone as of Feb '26 though), but they still have $1 oysters on some days, I like their fruit tea pitchers which are great for large parties, and they also give free Vietnamese chè for dessert! I rank this higher than Crab Hut because a) it's cheaper, Crab Hut is expensive even for seafood boil, and b) I prefer the sauce here. But Crab Hut is also S tier in San Diego so you can't go wrong with either. read more

My sister and I are visiting San Diego for her birthday and decided to try Submarine Crab. Unfortunately, this ended up being one of the worst dining experiences I've had -- and we didn't even get to eat. When we first walked in, no one greeted us at all. No "hello," no explanation of how seating worked, nothing. My sister and I stood there with two other people waiting for about 15 minutes, assuming someone would eventually help us. Eventually we realized on our own that there was an iPad we had to check ourselves in on, because nobody told us. After we checked in, the wait time on the system said 1-11 minutes. We waited well past that. At this point we had already been there close to an hour, and still not a single staff member had acknowledged us or even spoken to us. What made the situation even more uncomfortable was noticing the difference in how people were treated. Neither my sister and I nor the other Black couple waiting were greeted at all, yet a large family that walked in with a reservation was immediately acknowledged and assisted. At one point I finally pulled a staff member aside and asked about the wait time. He said he would "try to work on something now," and then never came back to update us. Then, after we had been waiting over an hour, someone finally spoke to us -- not to apologize, not to explain the delay, but to say they were no longer taking dine-in orders because the kitchen was backed up and that we could maybe place a to-go order instead. Mind you, this was the very first time anyone had spoken to us since we walked in. What made it even more frustrating was that they continued accepting delivery orders the entire time, yet the customers physically standing inside the restaurant were ignored. If the kitchen is that backed up, maybe stop accepting additional orders until you catch up and at least acknowledge the people who are already there waiting. When I tried to explain that we had already been waiting over an hour and had never even been greeted, the staff member showed no remorse whatsoever. The response was basically just repeating that the kitchen was backed up, completely skipping over the fact that we were ignored the entire time. Basic customer service goes a long way. A simple greeting, an explanation of the wait, or even an apology would have made a huge difference. Instead, we were treated like we didn't exist until the moment they told us they couldn't serve us. She took awhile for my bowl of rice and had forgotten my tea. However, she was very friendly and professional. We went all out and ordered the combo with 1.5 pounds of snow crab legs and 2 pounds of shrimp. We don't like sausages, and they allowed us to swap them out with extra corn and they really threw a lot of them in there! We got the torpedo seasoning, medium spice level. Amazingly, they gave us a big container of extra sauce. We also got Cajun fries, which are crispy and delicious. The service was fast and attentive, the ambiance and space were nice, but the parking was a mess, it's hard to find parking, and it was tight and crowded parking. RIP Submarine Crab -The food quality and taste was the worst. I ordered the Cajun fried rice, I requested no sausage, shrimp, or fried egg and asked for veggies such as bell peppers, onions, green onions what I received was bland butter rice with scallion flakes and corn The Garlic Noodles had no garlic flavor covered in butter and cheese - gross. I ordered fried shrimp which was okay but the Cajun fries were definitely old not fresh. When I first walked in to place a to go order the restaurant was not clean, all the tables had leftover food on them- this gave the impression they didn't care or are short staffed either way it wasn't inviting nor appetizing Not sure if they're under new management or ownership but it shows from the kitchen to the service staff which was mediocre. Had a craving for Boiling Crab but wanted to try something new and came across this place. Overall, I think Submarine Crab hit the spot but I feel like their menu is slightly misleading. On the menu, it says that all seafood boils come with potatoes, corn, and sausages, but if you order the 1/2 lb shrimp, it only comes with two pieces of sausages, one corn, and one potato. I guess if you look at it by weight it makes sense but I'm not sure why I was expecting more than that. The garlic noodles were good but it was drier than what I'm used to at Crab Hut. The cajun fries were delicious though. Portions are overall great and service was friendly. I'll probably just stick to my usual next time around though. read more
