Restaurant with little curb appeal but ample space that was nearly empty on a Saturday afternoon--there were a number of patrons getting takeout, however, including my girlfriends and me who were first-timers. While service was quick and our to-go order accurate, the food itself was only ok and nothing really stood out to me.

If you're looking for cheap sushi, Sushi Deli is always a solid option. If you're looking for the highest quality fish, this probably isn't the place. I think that's what makes Sushi Deli so popular though. You get a lot of food for a reasonable price and they always have fun monthly specials to keep the menu interesting. I started with the Jalapeno Margarita. It was just okay. I liked the jalapeno flavor and it was a decent pour, but it leaned way too sour for me. It just needed a little more balance. For food, we ordered the June Sushi Special, the June Bento, and the Black Magic Roll. The June Sushi Special came with a Rainbow Roll, Carnitas Verde Roll, California Roll, Veggie Tail Roll, and miso soup. Overall, everything tasted good, but nothing besides one roll really stood out. The Rainbow Roll had a generous amount of fish, but the quality was definitely on the lower end. The Carnitas Verde Roll was interesting because I've never had carnitas in sushi before. It wasn't bad, but I probably wouldn't order it again. The California Roll was exactly what you'd expect. The Veggie Tail Roll was fresh, but it didn't have much flavor. The Black Magic Roll ended up being my favorite sushi roll of the night. It had a lot more flavor than the others and is probably the one I'd order again on my next visit. The June Bento was honestly the best value of everything we ordered. It came with Black Dragon Wings, korokke, a curry puff, edamame, half of a California Roll, salad, rice, and miso soup. The Black Dragon Wings were easily my favorite part. The sauce was so good that I found myself wanting more after the last bite. The korokke was also delicious. It reminded me of a crispy potato croquette with a soft center. There was a good variety of food and it felt like a great deal for the price. I think Sushi Deli knows exactly what it is. It's not where I'd go when I'm craving high quality sushi, but that's also not why I come here. It's affordable, the menu has something for everyone, the portions are generous, and it's a fun place to grab dinner with friends. For cheap eats, it's definitely worth stopping by.

We decided to stop by this Sushi Deli location, while in the area, because my husband and my daughter both wanted sushi and they like this place. I wasn't very hungry and I didn't really want sushi, but they both seemed to love it. I'm very particular about my sushi places because I like it a certain way. I particularly only enjoy the places that seem to be very clean, where the tables are not sticky, and just aren't dark inside. We had to park at a couple buildings down behind an abandoned business. It's located on the same block as Starr Towing in Kearny Mesa. This is a very busy area in Kearny Mesa. We walked in and there was hostess station upfront. Right away, we were greeted by a lady with good customer service and she was able to seat us. The place was packed as there were many people inside at the bar eating , at booths eating, and then outside on the patio eating. Our table was sticky so that already turned me off, but I know that my husband and daughter love this place so I went along with it. I ordered a basic Crunchyroll, My Daughter ordered a California roll (with no cucumbers) and a Philly Roll, my husband ordered a Katsu bento, and a sushi roll. Everything came to our table within about 7 to 10 minutes and it was all freshly prepared. The best part of this experience was dining with my family. The food was also good. Overall, I probably won't come back to this location I don't really care for dark lighted sushi places but I know my family loves it so I'm glad that I could hang out with them.

This place never ever disappoints! We have come here for years and it's always just as good or even better! It's fresh and just so darn flavorful!!!! The vibe when you walk in people are happy and it was nice and cool in there! We will go back and continue to recommend this place to everyone!

Came on a weekday for a last minute "let's go to lunch I'm in the area" invite from my gf. I usually hesitant to come here if I'm driving bcuz the parking isn't great BUT I was lucky!!!!! (I should've bought a lotto ticket) anyway parking was quick, seating was quick, food on point (as per usual) our waiter was very attentive. And if you could eat with your eyes you would get full bcuz the sushi was so pretty. And I love all the art in the walls. Although the big octopus watching me eat his fish friends made me feel guilty for enjoying it (slightly) def come check them out

All these years and it's still the same place. Reasonably priced food and drinks. Relaxed vibe in a packed place. With a mix of patio and indoor dining it's a good spot to enjoy a quick meal. Evenlin was our server and she was great. I was thankful to find a spot on their second lot which isn't a far walk. I remember having to drive back and forth trying to find a spot back in the days. Everything we ordered was flavorful. I was surprised they only had one TV in the dining area. They need to add a few more inside. I wouldn't hesitate to come back here again, next time I'll be sure it isn't 13 years between visits.

Generic sushi served in a casual beer hall setting. Do not expect top quality ingredients, but the chef did a good job despite the limitations. Got the Shogun sushi set which came with the bland miso soup.

Have to say still a 4 star. Definitely not the place to go if you're craving raw fish. The menu is expansive but it's pretty mid all the way around. I couldn't eat much of one of my rolls because the salmon texture and color was just not my preferred. Only come here when my boyfriend requests it otherwise I'd rather go to Obi's for a little bit more money. Sushi Deli is still bumping around 5:30 on a Saturday with a line waiting for tables.

We went through the wrong door lol but they were very nice about it (go through the first one!) We were welcomed and shown the right place to go and were instantly seated. We were given menus and water. The seats were kind of old and cracking so they hurt my legs a little bit where it was touching skin. And the floors were a little sticky. But I can look past everything because the sushi was very good and tasted very fresh. All for a great price. There's low sodium soy sauce which I appreciate. We got the best seller combo (comes with miso soup which was also good), mango tango, and the caterpillar roll all for $40ish with tip. We left full and happy. Recommend all of those rolls. Service was great, checked up on us a lot. Water was full all the time. Overall great service. We would come back to try more rolls! I also think they have some parking but we just parked on the street and it was fine for lunch on a Sunday. Highly recommend!

Service is always fast, food is always 10/10, favorite sushi, parking can be hard depending on time, good happy hour deals.

12 piece sashimi plus drink special #2
    James A.

I've been aiming to go to a Sushi Deli for a long time. I missed the boat on the downtown location. I started with a sake and then the friendly bartender suggested I pair it with a Sapporo for drink special #2. Then I got a 12 piece sashimi. Now I've got a triple threat coming. I still have at least a half an hour to kill but the final star is determined if the Padres are winning. Just kidding. Not really I'm superstitious. I'll keep coming back until they win.

    Randall B.

Well. The sushi (so I was told) was amazing. I had the bento box and it was -at best- average. The chicken was dry, the rice cold. The salad was overdressed and the only redeeming thing was the tempura. Hot, crispy and tender on the inside. Sorry for only one photo. Was a business meeting and got busy. We sat at the bar so service was a bit catch as catch can. Pleasant staff but we were never really checked on.

    Bonnie Y.

It's been a while since my last visit. I came by for lunch. I ordered their Thursday special bento. The portion is big for the price. They also have a throwback Thursday menu. I ordered Snap crackle tuna. It's very good. I've been here many times and the taste, price and service have been good. I like that they have a different menu every month. I'll be back.

It was also fun to choose our own special sake cup/glass from Ichifuji's eclectic collection for the evening I truly enjoyed all of the 19!! courses but the chilled chawanmushi, king salmon & all the nigiri were my favorites. When you come to Ichifuji, know that you are getting a very authentic Japanese dining experience. This is the real deal! Another fun thing that Ichifuji does is they give you a punchcard, and once you've tried all four seasonal menus, you will receive a special gift from Japan. Arigato gozaimasu!

There was no wait here but parking was a nightmare and there is almost no street parking right around the restaurant which is near the trolley tracks. I recalled coming here for a light dinner with my husband many years ago and thinking it was good, but expensive. I asked if they had Japanese soda for my daughter because it was not on the menu, and they said no, but after we came back from the bathroom the host had found one for us. They gave us chopstick helpers and were very nice. We ordered braised pork belly as an app and wagyu nigiri, albacore, hamachi, salmon belly, 2 salmons, and unagi. I think that was all. They nicely split the order so half had no wasabi for the kid. They were very considerate and I appreciated it. The food however took a while to come out. The braised pork belly was ok, but the fat had not rendered as well as at some other places so we ate around it. The flavor was good though. The hamachi was probably the best item-tender and tasty. The albacore was standard and a generous piece, but the salmon was a bit tough and my kid who usually inhales salmon tasted and then left the salmon. The wagyu had good flavor but was surprisingly chewy. For $26 I would expect it to melt in your mouth but it was not easy to bite through. The eel was very tender but had a weird taste, and was disappointing. I found myself chewing on a scale from maybe the salmon and was overall underwhelmed by the food. The bill for a soda and the sushi came to almost $150 after tax and tip for me and a 6-year old. Usually my husband and I and my kid go to places with better quality and pay the same price for the three of us. Will not be back.

We ordered the miso soup, spicy edamame, Den Miso pork belly skewers, tamarindo tuna ceviche, seabass serrano, crispy karikari tuna, and mochi ice cream for dessert. To drink, we had the Taiyo Margarita and the Clouds of Matcha cocktail. The spicy edamame was probably the only dish that fell a little short for us. It wasn't bad by any means, but we were hoping for more flavor. The absolute standout was the Den Miso pork belly skewers. My husband and I both took our first bite at the same time, looked at each other, and immediately said, "Oh!" We were genuinely surprised by how juicy, tender, and flavorful they were. There were only two skewers, but they packed so much flavor that we instantly wanted to order another plate. The tamarindo tuna ceviche was fresh, light, and refreshing. The taro chips added a nice crunch without overpowering the dish. The seabass serrano was enjoyable, though it wasn't a stand out for us. The crispy karikari tuna (spicy tuna over crispy rice) is one of my go-to orders whenever I visit a sushi restaurant, and this version was up to par. The only component I wasn't crazy about was the long, thin slice of avocado on top--I personally could have done without it, though my husband actually liked it, so that's just a matter of preference. We finished the meal with mochi ice cream, which was the perfect sweet ending. Overall, we had a great dining experience. Between the rooftop ambiance, attentive service, and several delicious dishes - especially those unforgettable pork belly skewers - we'd definitely come back and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a great dinner spot in the Gaslamp.

The music is a bit on the loud side, but you can still have a chat with a group. I ordered the Akira Back Pizza, Mango Bongo Roll, and Super Spider Roll. Akira Back Pizza was my favorite, as the crunchy chip base and truffle drizzle made it extremely craveable. The rolls were pretty good too, and they use real crab! By the way, Lumi's AI answering service says they do not do take-out, but they do. Their receptionist is difficult to reach to confirm, but I have ordered take-out from their bar without any issues. It's just that they may not be able to allow call-ins for to-go orders.
