My wife and I stopped by the Cracker Barrel at 3415 Colonnade Parkway in Birmingham after not visiting for quite some time due to previous service issues. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. When we arrived, we were the only people waiting to be seated. The hostess was busy talking with what appeared to be friends and never acknowledged us. After several minutes, another employee finally greeted us, gave us menus, and seated us. As we walked by, the hostess jokingly said, "I must be slacking today." At least she was self-aware. After being seated, things got even worse. We waited and waited for someone to come to our table. No one offered drinks, took our order, or even acknowledged we were there. The restaurant was not busy, and there appeared to be plenty of employees working. There was staff at the register, employees in the store area, and several servers visible, but customer service seemed to be the last priority. Eventually, after sitting there long enough without any service at all, we got up and left. It's disappointing because there was a time when we ate at Cracker Barrel at least once a week and genuinely enjoyed it. Sadly, poor service continues to drive customers away. This location needs management to focus on the customer experience before more longtime customers decide not to come back. read more

We came in here for dinner and had to wait at the hostess stand for a long time before being sat. The manager finally came over and said they had to close a section that night, but after speaking to the servers, the servers said they would still serve us. How gracious of them. That should have given us alarm bells, but we went ahead and sat down. We saw lots of people around us just waiting for their food. After a long time, we finally got a server to come get our drink and food order. They didn't bring any bread until the food arrived. The food itself was decent - what you expect at a Cracker Barrel. We might be back when the mood strikes and we're in the area, as something was just obviously off that night, but it might be a while. read more

I came in and was seated by the most friendliest hostess with an awesome sense of humor. Ruth spent a little time explaining a few new additions to the menu until our server Emily arrived. The restaurant was mostly empty. We stood at the host stand for several minutes before anyone knew we were there. To be fair, it was about 8:30p on Black Friday. Ben was our server. He was pleasant enough but not a very warm person. No shade on him, he provided good service and made sure we had our drinks refilled. The food was delicious and as ordered with the exception of a New York strip that was ordered medium well and was well done and dry. We were splitting our check and the kind young man named Andrew at the register was new. He wasn't sure how to split the check and got the manager to assist him. I didn't catch the managers name but he's a middle aged Caucasian balding man. I didn't like the way he was speaking to Andrew. When Andrew attempted to progress through the tickets/checks and needed the managers help again, the manager looked at the screen and snapped "what are you doing?!" I felt so bad for Andrew. He explained that he'd never split a check before. I explained that he was perfectly fine and everyone needs time to learn a new job. He was so appreciative of our patience and understanding. I have eaten at Cracker Barrel's all across the country and they are pretty standard. Love the dumplings and that is really why we go. Had a side of them and they were delicious as usual. We were sat right away and our server, Katie, really took care of us. She was super attentive and friendly. My wife loves the hamburger on sour dough but with the sour dough not toasted. 99% of the time it still comes out toasted. It was not on this visit and we thanked Katie. She stated that it actually was but she told the cook that it wasn't supposed to be and had it changed before bringing it out. Kudos to Katie! I had one of the new items which was a campfire chicken meal. It had a half chicken with corn, potatoes and carrots. The veggies were cooked perfectly and absolutely delicious! The chicken was just average. It was cooked good but the flavor was average. I really like that you can pay via a QR code now which saves time. Overall, we had a great lunch. read more

Thankfully, when I walked in, the host seated me within five minutes, so it worked out just fine. I already knew what I wanted--those delicious peach pancakes--so I ordered right away. Wish i could give a zero! My husband and i went in for dinner. Not a lot of cars or people inside. My husband went to get a table while I went to the restroom and took my time looking at things. We were the only ones waiting for a table. No one ever came to the hostess booth. We asked the cashier if someone was available. A woman came running to the booth and proceeds to tell us she is the manager and they were busy and couldn't put us on a wait list. Her tone was very confrontational. Worst service and food. I've had issues at this location for a long time with catering my decided to give it another chance dining in. This location won't be open much longer. Probably 6 tables in the whole restaurant. Hamburger steak was as hard as rock. Returned that for grilled chicken tenders. Those were mediocre at best. Yesterday, I met a friend at Cracker Barrel for brunch. I ordered the "Shrimp 'n grits Skillet with a Jot Chocolate. My friend ordered pancakes, eggs, and vegetarian sausage. Service was good but felt our server wasn't fully present. Additionally, our food seemed to take a longer than usual time to come out. I enjoyed my meal but it was a bit tomato-forward for my taste. Would give zero stars if this was option - ordered a take out meal( 18$) They said 15-20 minutes. I got there and paid at front. They said it would be brought to the register. Overall, I am not the biggest fan of Cracker Barrel. While I have never had a bad experience at the restaurant or with the food I'm just not the biggest fan. I have always gotten breakfast here. I usually get the mama's pancake breakfast. I don't really like their sausage or bacon. So I typically only eat a stack of pancakes with 2 eggs. I think this is where my disdain for this restaurant takes place. The majority of their savory foods like sausage, bacon, or the hash brown casserole I just don't enjoy. It leaves me with a large stack of pancakes that are very sweet and to me get a bit overbearing. This most recent visit I got fruit on my pancakes which definitely helped break up the sweetness. If the food is to your taste it is always good quality. The service at this location is always good. There can be a bit of a wait depending on when you go. This time around, I was sat quickly and the servers were very pleasant. I also always love looking at all of the pieces hung on the wall and the ceiling. I always find a new little artifact that holds my interest or learn something new from them! It takes you back in time and creates a peaceful rustic feeling. read more

Cracker Barrels will be the next iconic business to go bankrupt if they continue their standard business practice of inconsistent missing product from to go orders/door dash and also the smallest of portion size. When you spend door dash bank roll for 5 people and two don't get their food and the other 3 are missing sides and gravy for their country fried steak it amounts to being served a peanut butter and jelly sandwich without the bread. The portion size literally will make you angry. Its left over pieces of bits of carrot and the tiny pencil sized 5 pieces do not even cover the bottom of the to go side dish much less mound up like they used to. Riddle; how does one eat the country fried steak with no gravy? Like a steak biscuit without the biscuit. You just stock going there is what you do. Time to demand real food, right prices and portion sizes or we all boycott and meal plan using real organic food without all these chemicals and fertilizers. I give tonight a negative ten if I could. Allow me to be clear, Cracker Barrel used to be one of my favorite restaurants for comfort food. Especially breakfast. I would go out of my way to eat there. Therefore, my family decided to order the Thanksgiving Feast which are all the items for Thanksgiving dinner that you can cook at home. After all, it is Cracker Barrel. It was awful and I can't understand why. My friends that have done this told me it was great. Not one items was worth a positive comment. WHAT??? Here is my thoughts. Covid-19 has changed the Restuarant business from in-house to take out. If that is the case, all Restaurants have to get their respective acts together. If this was when Covid first started, I would not be doing this review. It would be understood. Now we need for much better freshness and quality. We are more than willing to pay any increase in price. When you review on Yelp, you owe those that read your reviews the truth. In this case, Cracker Barrel had a huge failure. Great service and delicious food! Plenty of seating although I didn't see any booth seating. Affordable prices! This was my first time eating at a Cracker Barrel. I've lived in cities that had a Cracker Barrel my entire life but my family always went to IHOP if we wanted to sit down and eat breakfast. My fiancé has been going to Cracker Barrel his whole life so he chose this place and I was reluctant at first. We actually went for lunch and just like IHOP, Cracker Barrel serves breakfast all day! They have a pretty big selection of breakfast, lunch, and dinner but our server recommended the breakfast! Shots out to him because it was so delicious! My fiancé ordered the Momma's Pancake Breakfast (with blueberry pancakes which he loved) and I ordered the Grandma's Sample (with bacon, sugar cured ham, and the hash brown Casserole.) Mine came with two pancakes and let me tell you.. those pancakes were some of the best I've ever had! The flavor is so fresh and they were crispy enough and soft! The syrup was the perfect edition. So yummy! One thing my fiancé was excited about were the biscuits but to his surprise they didn't come with our order like he was use to. He asked the waiter if it came with our meal and he said no but he gave them to us for free anyway! The biscuits were good even though I'm not a huge biscuit fan. I will say the food is consistently great at this Cracker Barrel. We get it to go a lot and it's an easy place to get grilled chicken and veggies for my kiddos when I can't cook. This weekend we went to eat in person early on a weekend night and y'all the wait was horrible!! It was moderately full when we got there and we ordered pretty soon after sitting down and it took over an hour for our food to get there. After we finished eating, it probably took another 30 minutes to get our checks and to go boxes. We never got drink refills, despite our empty cups. I think they must be short staffed with both waiters and kitchen staff and for that reason I will not be dinning in person there. It was so horrible having two young kids trying to keep them entertained for about two hours even with the store to walk around in. Stick to to-go until they get staffed up more. read more

This is a good cracker barrel. We enjoyed our lunch here. Since we were a little early for lunch, we decided to share a BlackBerry cobbler while we waited for the time to pass till we could order lunch. Omg, was that good! Typically when I go to Cracker Barrel, I stick to breakfast food but this time I decided to try something different. The roast beef sounded delicious and it's not something I typically make at home. Hubby ordered his usual chicken and dumplings with a side of dumplings and another side of dumplings. That man loves his carbs. Lol My roast beef and mashed potatoes were delicious! Been coming to Cracker Barrel as a kid and have always loved everything about this place. However, today was the worst restaurant experience of my entire life. We were seating almost instantly. The server took close to 10 minutes to even come to our table. You know what not a big deal. I understand a lot of restaurants are under staffed. Next we get our drinks after about 15 mins of being there no rolls or bread was brought with the drinks. We waited on a refill to ask for them. Finally she takes our order after about 20 mins of being seated. We ordered something very standard not complicated. About 30 minutes later the food was brought out. Instantly it was completely wrong before we could even mention the order was wrong she had moved on. We ordered both the Grandmothers breakfast. I was brought 2 eggs one strip of bacon apples and pancakes. We tell the server about the issues instantly she's very aggressive not apologetic about anything. We're just sitting there wondering if she's gonna bring food. Or if we should eat the food that was delivered. She comes back and explains we got someone else's food. Never apologizes takes the half eaten eggs from the first plate from me and literally drops the new plate down. I ask her why she's being so aggressive and it turns into almost a screaming match with the server and myself. I asked her to please leave our table and bring the manger. She explained I don't have the right to tell her to leave our table. At this point everyone in the restaurant is looking at the situation. Terrible and I mean terrible service from her I cannot believe how the situation was handled from that person. I was disgusted as well as my girlfriend we were embarrassed by the server and how it was handled. The manager I did do a very good job at resolving the situation. He took care of the bill and wrote our name for a free meal the next time we come in. The table next to us literally got up and left and said she's never seen a server act like that In her life. As a family that loved doing road trips growing up, Cracker Barrel was a great stop to rest your legs, get a consistently good meal and take a good break. I always loved stopping off of the interstate for a trip to CB. Fast forward a few years, and we got one in my hometown. So I got a totally different experience than I did for our lunchtime stops... breakfast! In my older and wiser years, I tend to avoid chain restaurants. Whether it be in a new city or my own. But there is no denying that Cracker Barrel's breakfast can be really good. So when we were in the area checking out a new brunch spot with our twin two year olds and they had an hour wait, we called an audible and hit up the Cracker Barrel right next door. As usual, the biscuits were fantastic. The food was as good as any other location. And the service was also what I have come to expect. This was the ultimate breakfast!! Everything you'd want in a country meal all in one place. Ingredients piled up with hash browns, fried onion rings, tomatoes, onions, scrambled eggs, bacon, cheddar cheese! Two biscuits. I made the mistake of ordering two pancakes on the side. After all, who goes there and skips the pancakes? I ate the huge pancakes first and had to ask for a carry out for the omelet . Warmed it up for dinner and it. Was. Scrumptious!!
