Years ago I loved Cracker Barrel. My wife is from the South and we like Tennessee cooking. This is no longer good here. Listless eggs. Grits taste like instant. Gravy has no sausage flavor. Coffee is weak. We got no jam or jelly and no butter. Fair service. I am not sure how they stay packed. I know of several local places with better breakfast and my wife can cook better than this. read more

Had a pretty good non-heart-healthy breakfast here one fine Sunday morn. The wait was looooooong and the place was slammed with hungry people. Parking lot was pretty full too. I almost had to park at the lot for a nearby clothing store and *walk* back! Gasp! What else can I say... this is a corporate chain that specializes in trying to capture your dollars by marketing a down-home, aw shucks ma'am country/olden days theme. Stopped in Cracker Barrel for lunch while shopping with a friend. I ordered a cheeseburger, delicious. My friend ordered chicken and dumplings with green beans as her side. The chicken and dumplings and green beans were served in one bowl. Some people do not like their food mixed together. Should I eat again at Cracker Barrel I will ask whether my order will be served mixed together in one bowl. read more

Horrible Sirloin. Chef had literally burnt the garlic saunteé. Hidden charges, was charged $1.39 for cheese on just broccoli which looked like leather left out in the sun to cure. Was not informed of the charge, and the charge was not itemized in the bill. This produced the concern that the prices charged are not matching to the menu's listed price. I literally was communicating the concern of the difference of charge & the horrible taste of the sirloin, when the server thought it a bright idea to correct an item charge resulting in a rise of the bill. Seriously, train your employees in customer service, and teach your cooks how to cook. read more

I went here with some friends on the afternoon of Sunday, April 23. Everything was great, Isaac was a great server and was quick and attentive. The issues only came when I went to checkout and pay for my food. When I went to pay, the young man behind the counter asked if I would like to pay an additional $7 for a small piece of fudge. He said the purchase would go towards children with cancer. I politely told him I was not interested and this is where the problems began. Instead of letting me pay and get on with my day, the young man proceeded to ask why I wouldn't purchase the fudge and then asked if it was too expensive for me. I told him "no" and that I do not consume large sums of sugar and tried to continue paying (at this point my friends were waiting on me). He then told me I could gift the overpriced fudge to a friend to which I replied with "no". The young man then asked if I didn't want to buy the fudge because the children with cancer would die anyways. That's when I hit my limit with this guy and was done talking to him. He finally let me pay and leave. Immediately several of my friends commented on how this employee had stepped over the line. I've always liked the Cracker Barrel and have had a great experience in the past, but getting hounded repeatedly to pay $7 for a piece of fudge is not when I think of when I think of a pleasant dining experience. "No" means "no" and this worker should not have tried to make me feel guilty. I believe this young man should be removed from his duties at the register and be put on a task that doesn't involve human interaction. read more

Too bad restaurants are suffering because of COVID-19 but it seems too many are fighting back by raising prices while cutting back portions. This could be the demise of many restaurants that might otherwise make it through this pandemic. Unfortunately it seems that Cracker Barrel to my utter disappointment is going down this path. read more

While I am not a huge fan of Cracker Barrel food, I must give them 4 stars for being such a nod to Americana. The kitschy souveniers in the store always make me smile...but I'd never buy them :-) My hiking friends and I stopped here for lunch on our way to Spring Mill State Park. Since I hadn't eaten all morning and had already done a 6 mile training run...I was starving. My friends opted for lunch but I wanted a BIG breakfast. They serve breakfast all day. I had the Old Timer's breakfast. My breakfast included 2 scrambled eggs (I chose egg beaters), 2 sausage patties (I chose turkey sausage), the hash brown casserole, grits, biscuits (2) and gravy. Haha! I ate every bite! Soon, we were on the road to Spring Mill State Park and well-fueled for our 6 mile hike. read more

My family loves the food. It was my grandmother's favorite restaurant before she pasted away. So we try to go every chance that we get. However after what happened today we might not be going back after awhile. The hostess kept giving my family's table away to the groups of 5 that came in after we did. "A tender grilled chicken breast seasoned with smokey southern spice and topped with zesty apple cider BBQ sauce, and fresh gala apple and dried cranberry chutney. Served with Fresh Steamed Broccoli or Mixed Seasonal Vegetables and one Wholesome Fixin's side of your choice. 330 calories plus side of your choice of side. " It's healthy, and delicious with the steamed broccoli and onion, cucumber, and tomato salad! Service was great, he got the order correct as well as keeping our drinks refilled. I'm visiting Bloomington from Los Angeles for the weekend; as I was getting a tour today, I saw a Cracker Barrel out of the corner of my eye, and I had heard so many good things about it -- I knew that I had to go, it was the only chance I was going to get, because who knows when I'll be back? I thoroughly loved my time there. The food is absolutely delicious, and I highly recommend it. If you're from the west coast and have never been before, please give it a try. read more

We were here in B Town visiting ole Grandma for Thanksgiving. Coming to Indiana was a tradition when we lived closer than we did in FL, and now that we are closer, the tradition has been reinstated. Traditionally, the feast has taken place at a relative's house, but with availing relatives laid up in various rehabs and assisted living facilities, dinner has been relocated to a more public venue. We chose Cracker Barrel. We had a party of nine, and the place was sold out, so we had to wait 45 minutes for a table. We passed the time by looking at the various trinkets (junk) in the country store. Plenty of Don Knotts DVDs, John Deere paraphernalia, Worlds #1 Grandpa coffee mugs, and WWI and II VHS cassettes. Oh the times I would have if I was only 40 years older! We got our table and we're ushered to the back corner, to a round table that barely fit us. They had the special Thanksgiving menu, and of the nine of us, I was the only one to order from this. I got the Thanksgiving feast: turkey, ham, dressing (or stuffing to you Yankees), green beans, biscuits, and chocolate pecan pie. For the price, I wasn't satisfied with the portion size. Luckily, my kids didn't eat everything, so I had some extra food. The food was pretty good. Turkey was moist, dressing was a little dry, cranberry sauce was really sweet, green beans were good. Chocolate pecan pie was delicious. We got a piece of the streusel apple pie with vanilla ice cream and that was awesome too! Service was great for it being so busy. We just sat down after a 45 minute wait and told that they are out of "half of the menu". This is mothers day and obviously a popular out to eat holiday. Of the places to get breakfast in Bloomington, Cracker Barrel is definitely the best chain restaurant choice. The food is always tasty, plentiful and easy on the wallet. Plus I always love the store part of Cracker Barrels. Short and sweet; I recommend Cracker Barrel if you're looking for a diner type breakfast in town. You would think that a place that beckons the traditions of both southern and country style food; you would think they could master something like FRIED CHICKEN. This is a new item on the menu and they have had years, if not decades to get right. Bottom line, it is horrible! Rock-hard and thick breading that is missing the crispy bite that comes with authentic southern fried chicken. I wonder if it comes to them pre-breaded and frozen. Regardless, it colors my entire experience because I want it to be good, but it is not even close. read more

Typical Cracker Barrel. Get in, sit down, order food, food comes out fast and hot, server asks if you want drink to go. Yes, now leave. Pay the cashier and back out the door you go. lol.. So, I tried the Cajun Trout, I have to say they always hit the mark with any baked fish here, 2 pretty large filets with roasted corn on top, side order of steamed broccoli and an ice tea. The chicken fried chicken is awesome and I love the green beans. I have been coming to Cracker Barrels for years for the comfort food just like mom used to make, only better because i don't have to do the dishes afterward! After being told a 30 min wait, we ended up waiting an hour to only be let down and still not have a table. The manager told us if we didn't want to wait any longer to go somewhere else. We were told lie after lie every time we went to check on our table. Unacceptable service from EVERY employee we encountered. Sounds like a management issue to me. They served my food on a dirty plate that had dried food on the side - then for the reorder which I wasn't sure about anyway they came back with another plate with dried food on the edges. Was it the same plate? Sorry but I couldn't eat my meal and the manager did not act like he cared at all. We still paid for most of the meal. I was at this establishment a day ago and I was fat shamed by my waitress. I took my mom and little brother out to enjoy a nice dinner, after already having already poor service and speaking to the on duty manger about the waitress I order an extra hash brown casserole. My waitress Chloe had the nerve to look at me and say "Do you really wanna another hash brown casserole?" Well yes I did but fat shaming me for ordering more food isn't part of your job. I will never visit this location again. And to top things off I called the store tonight to speak to the manager who told me that I took it out of context and defended the actions of his employee. So if you encounter Manager Terry or the waitress Chloe, don't expect any sort of humane service. read more

We usually go to this Cracker Barrel location for breakfast when we are in the area of Bloomington IN coming home from Lake Monroe. if we don't end up going to Yia Yias pancake house in Greenwood, (which by the way is amazing and basically blows CB away), first before we head out of town going south, we can also end up at CB. Their breakfasts are pretty ample considering what you're ordering. The food is acceptable when considering breakfast grub. I haven't had anything else on their menu except for their breakfast offerings. I do like their pancakes, as well as their hash brown casserole. They seem to be a few of their notable and shining standards. Eggs are eggs, so they are difficult to screw up. Their biscuits are acceptable and decent, but the gravy could use a little work. It's usually too thick and congealed. It often tastes a little on the floury/pasty side. The grits are OK, for being what they are - grits. It's nothing a small pat of butter can't fix. I have noticed many people skip the grits because it's an acquired taste. The turkey sausage is decent as well as some of the other meat choices. The baked apples are pretty tasty as well. I think their coffee is drinkable, but I prefer a much stronger cup of coffee. I am a bit of a Java juice snob, so I really do appreciate a great tasting and quality bean cup of coffee. I wish more restaurants would give the customers the choice of getting a stronger cup of coffee if that's what they prefer, versus the average and/or weak to medium strength cup of coffee. The service is always quick, friendly and attentive. The food arrives at the table usually in a snap. Of course their country store is always a cool novelty to rummage around if one has some extra time to kill. I have always considered it a clever concept and they seem to have some fun offerings. read more

This is the only chain I go to without being forced to go by friends or circumstances. You know what you are getting. Quality across USA is consistent like the menu. When you travel it is a low risk stop if unexciting. But also the one in Bloomington is singular for excellent service and personnel. Hats off for such good service. read more

Where do Cracker Barrel managers go to train?? My dad was there yesterday after a 6 hour trip and chose them to go eat a home style meal. He didn't get the mashed potatoes he ordered, their drinks didn't get refilled and when asked he was honest. Then he gets this punk ass 20 something year old manager who doesn't know how to treat customers offer to take off the drinks as if that was point.. how about apologize, offer to give him the mashed potatoes to go and smile.. then maybe you can have happy customers! read more

Great comfort food. A nice variety on the menu. Wait staff is pleasant and knowledgeable. They also remember you are still there after your food comes, and they check with you often. Their meatloaf is exceptionally good. Hashbown casserole is an interesting dish. The best sweet tea in B-town. The atmosphere is homey and warm, and not just because of the fireplace. The area before the restaurant is a little overwhelming. So much stuff, and when did they start selling clothes? Liked it better when they offered more sundry items. We stopped in tonight and attempted to place an 'to go" order. The hostess had to call for the wait person 3 times to take our order. We waited for a considerable time and inquired if our order was ready. The hostess directed us to wait in line and ask the cashier, only 9 ahead of us now. Once as the register, they had no to go orders in the system. They found it attached to a table waiting. They said that they would "box it up". When the waitress arrived with our food, I asked for two extra biscuits for the 3 meals ordered. The waitress said it is policy only 2 are allowed. Well we returned to the end of the cashier line for the 2nd time, and paid. This took 50 minutes"............. Our dinner was equally as disappointing. The mashed potatoes were without the gravy. The chicken and dumplings, dry and still raw in the middle. The whipped cream was in the bottom of the bag, and liquid. They also failed to put in nampkins and plastic ware as requested. What a terrible experience at this store. We will NEVER eat here again. read more

That was my favorite place for dinners while I was living in Bloomington! I highly recommend it if you like country food.
