Updating after thirteen years and I now have different needs for Cracker Barrels. This time, I'm with Mrs. K. and this CB was chosen because they do tolerate overnight parking in their parking lot. After a nice meal (meatloaf for me, rainbow trout for Mrs. K.) that was served quickly and hot, we each stopped at our respective restroooms. In the men's, there were a few paper towels on the floor and the trash bin was overflowing. The rest was okay. The ladies room is reported to be bad. Mrs. K. actually had to step over paper towels on the floor to get between the sink and the toilets. Not good at all. Friendly waitress, great cashier at the end, plenty of well stocked merchandise in the Old Country Store, and a reasonably level/quiet parking area for the RV. This Cracker Barrel was AMAZING on a Monday night in November! I have eaten at many Cracker Barrels in my day and almost every experience was at least pleasant, but THIS Cracker Barrel on this particular night was truly hitting on all eight cylinders. I think what impressed me most was not only the cheerful attitude of my own server Alex, but also at a nearby table, there was a gentleman by the name of John with four stars on his apron. I watched him smile and take care of his customers, as if they were the only concern he could possibly have. At the table were two senior ladies who seemed to appreciate his cheerful conversation. MY daughter and I both had the Rainbow Trout and all of our food was cooked to perfection. Our server Alex did a wonderful job. Ok so I made the mistake of giving this location a second chance. Shame on me. After we got seated it took 14 minutes before anyone came to our table. Then the preceding announcement. Just to let you know we are out of mashed potatoes. At 6:10 PM. Then she said we have one serving left if you want them. I should have said no. They were out of so much food. So our order went in at around 615. By 645 having had two refills on drinks and being told they were waiting on biscuits and they were completely out of cornbread. At 655 my wife found the manger to complain that we still had nothing. I will say both the manger and server were super kind and apologized repeatedly. Our meal came at close to five minute later and our waitress set it down and said this "I am so sorry they are having to make another chicken breast they used your other one for a to go order. It will be another ten minutes. On that note the manger came over and said I will comp the meal it's gotten out of hand on the large capacity of to go orders. I heard other patrons equally upset. This is the first Cracker Barrel we've visited where the line to pay the bill was longer than the line to sit and eat! The food was awesome! The service was even better. Our waitress, I believe that her name was Tanyette was so hospitable, kind, knowledgeable and she had a sense of humor. One item in our order was going to take 12 minutes before it would be ready and she offered us salads to hold us over. Once our food came, everything was perfect and delicious. We ordered Southern Fried Chicken with hash brown casserole and mashed potatoes and gravy, Uncle Hershel's platter - pancakes, grits, catfish, eggs with cheese and a fried catfish platter with macaroni and cheese. The potatoes were not very good at all, and the bacon was just a bit under done. The chicken was decent, as were the pancakes. Burlington, NC. Not busy at all and after a 45 minute wait on food, I was served salty meatloaf, cold hash brown casserole and dried up turnip greens. Barry Marino, manager, came out and could have cared less! I told him a waitress told me others had complained about the dried up turnip greens and she had reported it. I asked why they were still serving dried up turnip greens. He said that it had not been reported. My food was cold and side arrived after the other food was eaten. My spouse gave up getting his order straight and just ate it. Cracker barrel takes back to my college days and road trips with family and friends. We would always stop here for lunch or dinner on our way home. This time around, we came here to meet my brother for lunch and do a gift exchange for Christmas. I've always enjoyed the food and service at cracker barrel and today was no exception. However, the service was a little slow during this visit. Our server was good, but he did seem to take his time delivering our food and drink to our table. The restaurant was steady and packed with business, but the server was moving at a slow pace. My father wanted a lemonade to go, and he never received it. Other than that, our food was excellent and we enjoyed our experience. The old country store is a neat place to visit and walk around as well. They have some vintage stuff and old school candy that you grew up with for sale. Of course, the rocking chairs outside are always the popular attraction to cracker barrel, and you can even purchase one to take home with you! We went online to reserve for a party of 4 for Sunday brunch. When we arrived we only had a 12-20 minute wait. There was a sign explaining the state mandate to wear masks. And there was hand sanitizer by the door. While we were in the store it was really busy, however 75% of the customers were not wearing masks. After moving around to try and offer space we observed many customers not following the guidelines. After discussing as a family if we should go elsewhere we saw a customer with no mask sneeze into his hands and immediately pick up items to look at. I know in this pandemic there are beliefs for and against masks, but we are all more aware of taking care of our neighbors. When we decided to leave we went to the staff to let them know why we were deciding to go somewhere else. The response was that the management of the stirs have decided not to enforce the mandate. When travelling, we always hit Cracker Barrel at least once. They have a wide variety of items for both vegetarians and omnivores so everyone can find something they like. [As per usual, I rate restaurants based on the category they are in, not on a common scale. This is a breakfast-heavy family restaurant.] It's hard to know what to say about CB... if you've been there before, you are familiar with their large breakfast menu (served all day) and their other offerings. That, combined with the 'Old Country Store' off to one side are iconic. If you haven't, you'll be pleasantly surprised at the selection of 'road snacks' and other treats that you may not find easily elsewhere (Cow Tails, check!) They almost always have a nice selection of Red, White and Blue patriotic gear plus other fun things (such as their summer selection of flamingo items this time around). If the batteries on your kids electronics has petered out, you might introduce them to the delights of road games and other toys that don't involve electricity. My son had their yogurt parfait, my wife had an order of pancakes, and I went with their double meat platter (bacon, sausage, grits, eggs, white gravy and a pile of biscuits with their apple butter-- basically apple sauce but much sweeter and pairs well with the biscuits). This is also a good place to get country-fried steak (flattened beef, battered and fried then coated with gravy... not healthy, but very tasty!) As per expectations from this chain, the food was hot, fresh and came out in a fairly timely fashion. We left satisfied and will swing by again next time we are on the road! read more
