Do you ever get a craving once every five years for a restaurant? Well Cracker Barrel was calling my name for a big country breakfast or CFS. I choose the CFS because it's one of the few Southern American entrees I like to try. Well the menu made it sound good but in reality it was very so so. I waited near starving for 35 minutes then all my three plates of food were brought out by the friendly waitress. They really need to train them properly when to bring out food at the appropriate time. My biscuit was thin, watery and blah. My cornbread felt like a hockey puck and needed a saw to cut it. My salad was A-ok but the ranch dressing was worse than any bottled kind I use to use 20 years ago. My friendly waitress brought out 4 more salad dressings trying to please me. All failed except for the Caesar dressing 3 star. My CFS was 8 oz made from chopped sirloin breaded and deep fried. Very hot but a tad bit oily 3.5 stars. There was a sawmill gravy poured over it and my mashed potatoes. Problem, the sawmill gravy was very salty and tasted like it had way to much concentrated bacon grease in it. The bacon grease and salt sadly overpowered my Chicken Fried Steak and mashed potatoes. My fried okra was almost cold but the nasty gravy warmed them up. Obviously execution was poor. The menu is quite varied and I believe there is somewhat hope for their breakfast items. Quiet and relaxing restaurant. Besides one child and the female servers I looked like the youngest person. Probably ok for unrefined taste buds. They sell all kinds of TX novelties in their gift shop along with lodge cooking wear, clothes misc unique kitchen plates, old fashioned candy, huge swirl suckers and unique soda pops, etc.. Been trying to call to make a pickup order during my lunch hour. 40 minutes in no one has answered. Literally was standing inside for 20 minutes at the pickup window and they told me someone would take my order and no one came by after 20mins went back to my car and started calling again still no one answered. It's times like these you wish there were 1/2 ratings on yelp. . . When you've been driving all day, driving even more is not a desired option. That's pretty much how me and my Mom ended up at this place. I had been up all day and night celebrating my birthday, drove out of town to pick up my Mom, then drove some more to get to Conroe. Last thing you want to do is drive some more to get to a restaurant!!! Luckily, some saavy yelpers had clocked their visits at the ye ol' cracker barrel. They were decent and this was the closest restaurant to our staycation location, so off we went! The restaurant was actually closer to us then I expected--probably a good 5 minute drive, which was great--my stomach was starting to talk back to me!!! Now I knew that Cracker Barrel as an old timey store and restaurant, but I didn't think I'd have to walk through the store to go eat. I know the reason behind the concept, but the walk ways were a bit crowded with people stopping to look at the nostalgic merchandise versus those wanting to walk to the restaurant side and pop a squat to eat. Not much wait time for waiter service. Very friendly bunch--especially since they have to wear aprons with their name as big as day :O Service was cool, I just did not like the food! I understand having a variety of foods on the menu (including breakfast) attracts and appeases more customers, BUT having too much variety can cause a quality problem. My chicken fried steak didn't look like a steak. It was very thin because it wasn't a good cut of steak and therefore, became dry and rubbery upon deep frying. Additionally, the coating on the steak was waxy and unappealing--not even crunchy. along with the sorriest mash potatoes I tasted, I sent this meal back to the kitchen. However, I did enjoy the fresh and flaky taste of the fish my Mom ordered. Traded out the steak and mash as well as the turnips for a filet of fish. Along with my unlimited refills of Arnold Palmer and biscuits, I was full! I suppose if I was in the same situation again, I would dine at CB, but probably would venture past the 5 minute radius for something a little more delectable next goround! read more

Beeing going here on and off for about 3 years now. Have had GREAT visits andless than pleasant ones. Food is okay - not fantastic as I have heard people say it used to be back in the day. Place is ALWAYS wall to wall people which is why I don't go often. I do not like loud noises and crowds and my 13 year old Asperger's son dislikes them even more than I do. I'm a huge fan of Cracker Barrel pancakes so I know when the kitchen has dropped the ball. Order the Grandma's Sampler with Over medium eggs. Took about 20 mins to receive my food. On arrival the pancakes were so cold the butter would not even melt and the eggs were scrambled. Manager immediately came over and offered new pancakes. We had ordered from them the week before and the food was ready fast, hot and spot on. It was 15 minutes till closing this time and we took a chance and ordered. This chain has been around for years. They have a winning formula with very consistently good food at great prices. Their daily specials are awesome and they are seven days of the week. The complimentary cornbread and biscuits with apple butter and other jellies sure makes it easier while waiting for your food in this often busy place. The reason for the five stars was the superior service of our waitress, Nina. She would be an asset to any organization. I watched her as she bussed and cleaned her own tables. She even lifted up the tableware so she clean under them. Very impressive indeed, and she was very attentive to our needs and special requests. I also enjoyed the catfish ($7.99 with three sides). The fish were fried crispy with no fishy taste at all. The tartar sauce was perfect. While I assume there is a steam table in the back for some of the sides, the hashbrown casserole, fried okra, cheese grits, and the cole slaw are standouts for me. The desserts are reasonable at around $3.95. I like the sugar free apple pie, their fruit cobbler, but I will be trying the coca cola cake next time (sounds interesting). read more

I made a reservation for 7:30 pm Wednesday night to pick up Thanksgiving dinner. I arrived at 7:15. I was told that they were running a couple hours behind and asked me to come back in a couple of hours. So I went back at 9:00 pm. I had to leave my 90-year-old mother (who has dementia) alone for 3 hours while I waited in line for curbside pickup. It was midnight before I got home. It's Cracker Barrel. You know what you are going to get. I have had no problem with the consistency. The only issue is the crowds on weekends. The App could be improved, but at least they have one. How can you mess up our order 4 times in a row (The only 4 times we have ever ordered from this location.) Our ticket shows a loaded baked potato, yet we got a dry baked potato. The ticket shows mixed bread for one person and biscuits for the other one yet we didn't get any of these items while they were checked off on the receipt as having been filled. Hmmm! The chicken fried steak tasted like it came from a frozen multi-package from a big box store. I called to explain this to the manager and have been on hold for several minutes without anyone coming back on the line. Horrible service! My husband & I came here for breakfast. It was busy understandable for a Sunday. We were told the wait would be 20 mins. It took 40 mins to be seated because someone took our table pretending to us. Our server was a young lady named Leah. She took our drink/food order. she ignored us for 30+ mins while she attended to the table seated next to us . she never came by to asked us for refills on our ice teas or asked if we needed anything! She wasn't friendly whatsoever! She dropped off our meals and was MIA! She never apologized for our order taking so long. Never asked to refilled our ice teas during that time. She later came over dropped off the bill refilled only my glass and not my husband's. He was pretty tickled off and spoke with a manager that was nice enough to wave our bill. We had no problem with paying for our meal ,we were just planning to give no tip for the poor service. I was really bummed with our experience since we haven't been to a Cracker Barrel till moving here. I was one of the folks that had to wait for quite a while for Thanksgiving hot and ready Thanksgiving meal 2020. It took us 1.5 hours to get ours ...and we were about 10 in line on Thanksgiving day. we have talked to some that waited 3 plus hours ...and some that just drove off and didn't pick up. Honestly , it will be hard for us to entrust our Thanksgiving meal to you guys in the future . My family came here from NY they are used to Cracker Barrel's and a big fan of the breakfasts served here. Once again hit the spot and Conroe Cracker Barrel got it right again! Very inexperienced host staff with no ability to manage guest. Parking lot 1/3rd full, many tables open on Saturday yet they are unable to see parties larger than 4 guest. I was in your restaurant 3 min ago and standing and waiting and waiting for a hostess to seat me, then 2 or 3 other parties walked in and we're all waiting despite the cashier calling on the mic/radio requesting "we have guests to be seated " 3x.... So either your cashier needs to pivot and seat the guests or your hostess needs to stop chit-chatting in the kitchen. Everything about this visit screamed chaos. 30 of our family members got together the day after a memorial to visit with each other. The person planning this breakfast had called ahead twice to get everything settled together for 30 people. She was assured that when we arrived there would be an area where everyone could sit together at 10:30. We all got there on time and had to wait for 30 min to get 20 people seated. 25 minutes later the other 10 were seated which is unfortunate because we didn't finish our meal at the same time. Instead of one or two big tables like that we were told we would get we got 4 tables. Our server at one of the smaller tables with 6 people was pretty bad. He messed 3 of our orders up, 2 of us didn't have enough ham, he handed us hot plates to hold while he distributed other plates and wanted us to figure out where what went. No one got the correct plate at first so we had to switch around a lot. Our waiter was a bit short with us also. The food tasted good but again we weren't given much ham. I got the iced caramel latte which was too sweet in my opinion. The ham was dry. The has brown casserole was great and so were the biscuits. Writing this review sadly since we like Cracker Barrel and our service has always need good but I was upset to see at least 4 staff members wearing masks UNDER their nose, which is really not appropriate during this COVID epidemic. It does not good since the majority of the virus is airborne. All were going back into the kitchen with their masks in such a way, and one was even sanitizing the tables. I know that they cannot control the people who come in and there were a few of them not wearing masks, but an concerned because many elderly people eat there and the staff are putting them at risk. Food was good, they put walnuts on my husbands oatmeal. Menu didn't specify it came with it, he got upset as he's allergic to them! When he mentioned this the server said he could put an order in for another oatmeal but didn't know how long it would take. We carefully removed the walnuts instead. Brought the fruit with it much later, no butter for the biscuit. The biggest issue was the ladies bathroom was absolutely disgusting! Smelled of pee which was all over the floors, toilet paper on the floors. Looked like it hadn't been cleaned in a long time. No 6' social distancing. Would not recommend. read more
