It was late, it was close, it was an easy call. I was on a weekend trip to Coventry which took me about six hours of drive time after my day at work. This put me checking into my hotel a bit late. After cleaning up from the work day and preceding drive it was time for dinner. As it was late I didn't feel like traveling far from my hotel, Hampton Inn Coventry, and out of my room window I could see the Cracker Barrel right across the street, so this was an easy call. I had not been to a Cracker Barrel for a meal before, so this was going to be a new experience for me. As I do enjoy trying new things I was a bit excited. The entrance is actually into a Cracker Barrel store, which is kind of a modern-day country store. I walked around the store a bit just out of curiosity then headed to the restaurant entrance to await seating. As it was late, and Cracker Barrel is not a bar I did not have any wait and was seated immediately. Raspberry Iced Tea is a favorite of mine, so this was my beverage of choice. It was a very light tea with just the right amount of raspberry flavor. I ordered a bowl of clam chowder to start off and an order of pecan crusted cat fish. The clam chowder was nice and thick, the way a New Englander likes their chowder. It had plenty of clams and just the right amount and sized potato pieces. Now on to the cat fish. To be honest I was bit disappointed by this dish. I got the mixed green salad and corn sides as the meal came with a choice of two sides. The salad and corn where great. Pecan Crusted Catfish is what the dish is called. Catfish fillet, glazed with orange marmalade and coated with a seasoned pecan crumb crust is the description. Now when I think of encrusted I think of a piece of meat or fish that has been thoroughly coated with a specific ingredient, in this case pecan. What I got was a piece of cat fish that had a sauce drizzled over it with a hand full of pecans dropped on top of that. The orange marmalade "glaze" was more of a thin sauce poured over the fillet. That said I do have to say that the meal was very flavorful. The orange sauce and pecans complimented the catfish very well. Service was excellent and the price for my meal was fair. Although my main meal item was not what I had expected, my experience with Cracker Barrel was a pleasant one. If I find myself near another during one of my weekend trips I will give a different entrée a try. read more

My husband and I come to this Cracker Barrel at least once a month. We're both a huge fan of the food! I love the rotating menu and the daily specials (and the seasonal desserts are to die for). Moreover, I'm always floored by the superb customer service and amazing waitstaff. Today my husband and I were helped by a young lady named Erika, and she was a phenomenal waitress. Everything was on point and she was super friendly and had a great sense of humor. Cracker Barrel, you've really scored an excellent waitress in Erika. Please treat her well! The food here is so gross. I'm usually okay with eating anything, so when I criticize a meal it means a lot. I also haven't left a review in a long time, and the fact that I took the time to make this one means I really want people to know how much this food sucks. Also, the waitress tried to give us good service and I give her credit for that, but she asked us maybe 3-4 times if we were ready to order (any other restaurant I've been to, I'm usually ready to order by the time the waiter comes over. I wasn't used to being asked so many times). She also didn't tell us we had to pay at the counter so we sat and waited about 10 minutes before I called her over to give her our card, and that's when she told me I didn't need her for the payment (in her words). To be fair, it did say so at the bottom of the receipt but we only looked at the total. They need signs or she should've said "here's your check, just pay at the counter!" read more

28 years of my life born and raised in Rhode Island and I had never eaten at this establishment till a few weeks ago. I want to go back, right now. Cracker Barrel has such a great thing going on, gift shop and home country cooking. I heart breakfast food, so much. They have decorated the place to provide you that old fashion look and feel. Everything in the gift shop was so country kitsch and so adorable. I had delicious sour dough french toast and some form of fabulous hashbrown casserole, to die for. The service was also good, even when busy they have a large enough seating area to accommodate and are organized enough to keep up. Our food came out quickly and was very good. We have been fans of Cracker Barrel for years since discovering the restaurant while on vacation in WV/VA and at that time, would have given them a solid 4 star review. Always good, homestyle food and the store is fun to shop in while waiting for a table. With the busy holiday season, we got pancakes a couple of weeks ago which were delicious and the perfect portion size. At that time, it was three large pancakes served in a large oval-shaped platter (take out). Today, while running errands and doing some Christmas shopping, we decided to do the same. The pancakes were medium-sized at best and served in a significantly smaller, round takeout container. The prices have not gone down and while good, Cracker Barrel is fairly expensive. With the change of the portion sizes, it's no longer worth stopping for a quick bite of comfort food. Too bad - change is not always a good thing. read more

Pretty disapointed in my visit today, ordered the grandmas sampler. Well the pancakes came out with a long piece of hair attached to the pad of butter, pretty gross. They did bring a new plate of pancakes out, eventually, my husband and daughter were already finished eating. I was surprised when I got the bill and still had to pay full price, again, pretty disapointed. I hope to return again with better results but i don't know. read more

This was my first time dining at this restaurant and we had a terrible experience. Our expectations were pretty low too, it was a toss up between an applebees and this place... not great to start with... We were sat quickly enough, it was 2:00pm on a Saturday, the restaurant was pretty much empty. Our waitress came over right away, but my husband had gone bathroom so I placed my drink order and told her I didn't know what he wanted. I then informed her I have an allergy to wheat and gluten, and asked for a gluten free menu. They don't have one, so I asked if I placed my order if she could check to see if it was OK for me to eat. She said that would be fine. Once my husband was back, she came over to take his drink order and at the same time asked if we were ready to order. ( I mean he JUST had sat down) We said we weren't, she grabbed the soda (which took less than a minute) and asked us again to order, we said no, we needed another minute, she leaves, another minute goes by and shes back ... I mean REALLY! Feeling so rushed, we placed the order... I asked for a house salad and the roast beef with no gravy, and mashed potato, and corn, asking if she could let me know if there would be a problem with my allergy and she said sure. My husband ordered a grilled chicken sandwich with no mayo, and a cup of soup. The soup came out and so did the salad, and I noticed we didn't have silverware so I asked her for some. She responded "are you sure?" umm yes, I'm 100% sure. She blamed it on the hostess, saying they should have brought it over...so instead of just bringing the silverware over she stood there trying to convince us it wasn't her fault. We eat our apps and then the meals come out... She walks over and drops my meal on the table and says "here's the thing, the roast beef is cooked in gravy so they can't do it without gravy. But they can cook you a different piece but it will take a while" Her attitude was so terrible, and the fact that we would have to wait longer was not a good solution. She should have placed the order, asked, then told me right away they couldn't do it. I don't make a big deal out of my allergy but this was crazy. To make matters worse, my husband's sandwich was not grilled, it was fried, and there was mayo all over it. We had to send it back. She blamed the mayo problem on the chef..instead of just taking care of it we had to hear AGAIN about how it wasn't her fault. After leaving we both agreed we hadn't had such bad service in a while. read more

I wish I was able to give this place no stars. Horrible experience here, the food was horrible along with the service. Not to mention I usually enjoy a cold draft beer with my lunch and they serve no alcohol. This is not the reason why I thought the place was horrible, I understand its a family restaurant, but I thought the quality of the food was terrible and the shop was over priced. We were stationed in NC a few years ago and went to cracker barrel all the time. So moving to RI, it was a bummer to lose the country vibes. However, this location, no disappointing found! Just like feeling back down south from the sweet tea, food, country store, and friendly staff. I will be making more trips in the future. I like the Cracker Barrel enough for what it is. Its a chain restaurant but I dig their shtick. They usually have a fire going, it's gas, but whatever. It ells like a wood fire in there if that counts for anything. Tacky old timey stuff hanging in the walls trying to give you a county cottage type feel. The food is decent enough. read more

I have always been a Cracker Barrel fan so I am glad this one is close by. It has your typical Country Store in front with every kind of candy imaginable! The staff here is friendly and normally quick when it's not slammed with people. My favorites are the eggs in a basket with crispy bacon and their cheesy homefries for breakfast. I take mom here. She always finds something she is in the mood to eat. Never a bad meal. I have eaten here at least twenty times. One time, just once, the hashbrown casserole was bland. Extremely Dissatisfied! Couldn't wait to have Grits..they were cold and dry, like they'd been on the counter for hours! How do you mess up eggs?? Scrambled eggs were just chopped up Cold fried eggs. It would have been a higher rating if I didn't have a bad experience the last time was there. Food is good. I like looking around the store and trying the interesting candy from around the country. Just be careful if you had a food allergy. We went with my young daugther who is allergic to many things. We warned the waiter about the allergies, he spoke with the Chef and gave use options for her (assured that it would be fine). When the food was brought out we were so confident that the food was ok that we didn't even check before giving it to her. As soon as she had a bite, she had a reaction. I told the waiter and he ran to get the manager. The manager and waiter took care of the situation, but I learned that basically nothing is made from scratch. Everything comes in pre-made bags and they just heat it up. I still think it tastes alright, but you don't need competent Chef to heat a bag. read more

Very good food and service at this Cracker Barrel location - which is a pretty standard experience at this chain breakfast restaurant and store. It's always neat to browse their little country store as you wait for your table. I give them an extra star above the average mark because they were very sweet with one of the kids at the table. It was the child's birthday that day and after the meal, they brought out a surprise chocolate cake for all the kids to share with a heaping spoonful of vanilla ice cream. They also sang "happy birthday" and were very thoughtful and fun. I'm sure this is a standard practice at this chain restaurant, but it felt very heartwarming and generous for them as an added extra touch to our breakfast experience. Overall, good portions, quality food, and sweet/caring employees that make this particular location shine. read more

Their white meat chicken tenderloin is slow-simmered in a creamy, hearty, mushroom gravy and served over a bed of seasoned rice with my choice of any two of their 27 country vegetables and sides, fresh biscuits, corn muffins, and apple butter on request. The Coventry location is by far the best Cracker Barrel in all of Rhode Island and Table 244 is right by the fireplace. This is my go to spot if I'm really wanting to have a good breakfast, I know it's a chain and yes I like to sell out every so often lol. We are here a few times a month with our toddler for breakfast... You can't beat the consistency here: food is always hot and tasty, service is great no matter who we have and the fun/non-fussy atmosphere makes it super family-friendly and not at all stressful. Kathy and the team always make us feel welcome and they are all incredibly accommodating! Favorite food items include the blueberry pancakes, egg sandwich (cheap and yummy) with hashbrown casserole and for lunch/dinner the grilled (or fried) chicken salad. My husband likes the Campfire meals when available. Any meal, any time, we love this place and more importantly... This location! Only thing is, as a major chain, there isn't much variety to the menu (for example: no omelette/pancake specials, just featured highlights from their menu.) read more
