We waited over an hour and a half on Mother's Day for Cracker Barrel in Elkhart and then the guy messed up the my name so I waited even longer. Then when we got inside, it was another 2.5 hours for food. It took forever to get refills on the drinks and we waited forever to get any bread. The kitchen shorted me a piece of chicken and was very skimpy on the sides. I eventually got my other piece of chicken about 15 minutes later. It was actually a disgrace on some of the food that was served. They have really piss poor management here. They should be straightforward with the people and say that they are shortstaffed in the kitchen so people can make up their mind if they wanna stay or not. Very disappointing experience at this Cracker Barrel, especially because we came specifically to celebrate my brother's 17th birthday. My family and I chose this location before heading to a holiday lights show at the zoo, hoping for a warm and enjoyable birthday meal, but it turned into a frustrating experience. We placed our full order at once so service could move efficiently, yet several parts of our meal were forgotten. My mom's corn muffin sides never came, the honey for the beignets was missing, and the beignets were served covered in cinnamon sugar instead of powdered sugar as shown on the menu. What made things worse was the inattentive service throughout the meal. We asked for a soda refill and it never came. My mom and brother ended up eating their meal with nothing to drink, which should never happen after specifically requesting a refill. [[HIGHLIGHT]]What makes this even more disappointing is that the restaurant was not busy or packed at all. It was relatively quiet, which made the repeated oversights and lack of attention even harder to understand.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] On top of the mistakes, the service felt noticeably cold toward our table. My mother does not speak English fluently, and we couldn't help but feel we were treated differently and with far less attentiveness than other guests around us. Today I went to cracker barrel with my family. We came here on Sunday and had a god awful experience but we wanted to give it another try, I now wish we did not. We waited for our host yo seat us for seven minutes.... He was standing there the whole time not speaking and no urgency at all. Our waiter also has no cracked a smile once throughout our dinner, not only that but he threw our straws at us. The food we ordered came incorrect aswell. I asked for no mayo but to have pickles and instead they gave me mayo and no pickles. They also did not bring out our sauce when we nicely asked three time. They asked are we done with out empty cups we said yes , they said okay and walked away. This truly is so disappointing. While sitting down three people left without food because their servers failed to return. I do not recommend coming here. Went this morning for breakfast. Portions were small, my eggs were cold and the hashbrowns were fried very hard. The new style of pancakes were disgusting. The to go service has really failed on our last few orders. Training may be the issue. Staff including management show a lack of concern of costumer service on orders timeliness and accuracy. Staff and service was amazing! They had really quick service and was constantly making sure we were ok. They even gave us a tip on how to get out stake since we were past the lunch timing for it! It's a National chain and sometimes can be hit or miss depending on the local management. When it hits, the Southern comfort menu can really be a good dining experience. Today was one of the good days. The Chicken pot pie was spot on. Nice flaky crust and the chicken stew filling was well prepared and full of flavor. The chicken fried steak was tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside. Loved the Broccoli cheese casserole as well. Good flavor on both. We ordered two meals one the ham steak dinner and the other chicken strips...the ham was great the chicken strips were so tough they were inedible. Our first waitress totally forgot about us and we waited about 20 minutes before another waitress came and asked if we had been helped. We told our waitress about the chicken strips and she offered nothing. Went to the checkout and asked to talk to the manager about it. I told her I was happy to pay for the sides but not the chicken strips...she seemed annoyed and gave me $3.08 off the 12.49 meal. With no offer getting anything else to go either just like the waitress. Literally ate less than 1 strip. I've been going to this Cracker Barrel for about 15 years now and have always had good service and food in the past and spent thousands on gift cards for my company employees there over the years. I can definitely see why there are only 2 1/2 stars. I would give zero if I could. We were told there was a 10 minute wait, ok no problem. We were seated and it took the waitress a minute to come over, ok it was kind of busy. After waiting about an hour, the waitress comes to tell our table and another table they are down to one fryer and if we want to order dessert we can order that now. Um no. So after waiting an additional amount of time she comes over to tell me that they are out of my food. How can you be out of chicken and dumplings when that is one of your staples and you have about another 1 1/2 hours of service? Then she tells me that the manager was supposed to come over to talk to us. When she finally strolls over after going to the wrong table to tell me she's sorry. I told her that it's not acceptable to continue seating ppl without telling them there is only one fryer. Her response, sorry. Do I want anything else? Like what? Everything is fried and it will take forever. Again all she said is she is sorry. She said they were supposed to. Well they didn't obviously since no one around us knew. Again, all she said was sorry. Unbelievable. The manager should have been the one going around to the tables and standing up front to tell ppl that there was a problem with the kitchen and food would take awhile. Cracker Barrel is a chain that serves southern style comfort food. It is a resturant with a country store as part of it. Large front porch with rockers and checkers to relax or wait. The homestyle dishes are cooked fresh and portions are generally large. Items like Meatloaf, country fried steak, burgers, fried fish and all your breakfast favorites. I had the Southern fried chicken, mashed potatoes and slaw. The dish came with 4 huge pieces of fried chicken, battered dipped and nicely seasoned. Tender , crispy and finger licking good. Potatoes are real mashed , and slaw crispy and tangy. Dont forget to get the cornbread and biscuits !! Add butter - yummm. The deserts are yummy- try the Cola Chocolate cake !! Service was friendly, prompt and excellent. The ladies at the check out were especially friendly and helpful- great sales people as the talked me into some limited edition old time Hershey bars !!! Clean.. NO - Waitress service.. Great - Food Quality.. Worst I've ever had # Had just checked my RV in for factory repairs and was starving. I knew that the Cracker Barrel was right next to my hotel; and I was a Big Fan of Cracker Barrel Breakfast. Entered and straight to the Men's room.. stranding at the urinal and noticed the stench ## Then realized that the bottom of my shoe's were sticking to a heavy accumulation of pee GROSS. I really had second thought's about eating there now, especially in light of the fact that there were only 3-4 customers in the place.. and The Perkins next door was packed. Fast-foward to the food.. ordered Grandpa's Country Fried breakfast.. the Steak version. Yeah, NOT Steak. It was a preformed patty of some kind of meat, pre-dipped in a liquid-breading kind of stuff. We stopped here for lunch and hoped we'd be having a good meal as I feel like Cracker Barrel tends to serve some good food. Firstly, Cracker Barrel, at least at some locations, is serving alcohol. They were heavily advertising mimosas, beer, and wine. They had a photo of a Rocket Pop Mimosa which is a strawberry mimosa with a rocket pop sitting in it. My Wife saw a picture of what appeared to be tater tots with melted cheese on it and they were advertised as Loaded Hashbrown Casserole Bites. They're supposed to be crispy tater tots loaded with cheese and bacon and come with a side of ranch dressing for dipping. What we got were soggy circles of potatoes that had unmelted shredded cheese laying on top with nothing else. I had the Homestyle Chicken salad that I saw advertised as being fried chicken cut up on a salad with greens, egg, shredded cheese, croutons, and cheese wedge. What I got was iceberg lettuce with some grilled chicken, egg, cucumber, tomatoes, and no cheese. My Wife got French toast which she said was fine and it looked like what I've come to expect at Cracker Barrel. Our server looked pretty miserable. I can't imagine how difficult a serving job is, particularly at a Cracker Barrel, and I always keep that in mind. I know that people have rough days, but we were missing items, having to keep ask for refills, and she seemed like she was just ready for us to get out. Stopped here on our way through the town while traveling. Waited 40 minutes for food. A table of 7 came in a half hour after us and got their food the same time we did. There were only four tables with customers in the entire place. I asked for hamburger steak with no garlic butter. Guess what...it came with garlic butter. Would have sent it back, but didn't want to wait another 40 minutes! Received no knives or napkins. Ask for honey with biscuits...never got. Had to get ketchup from another table. Never asked if we would like drink refills. When it came time to pay, they had our checks all messed up. When we paid and told the manager, all she said was, "Oh, I'm sorry about that." She said she would tell the GM in the morning. I doubt that will happen. Never offered to take something off, offer a coupon, nothing. Pretty sure the GM won't hear a word about it. Travel a lot and visit the Cracker Barrels regularly. This particular location just doesn't measure up to what I've come to expect from this breakfast staple. Long waits, even for a Saturday morning (more than 90 minutes to get seated). Once we got seated, it was 20 minutes, yes 20 minutes until anyone approached us. Atleast get a cup of coffee on the table, then we can wait to order. The staff was great but clearly understaffed. I counted three (3) servers working the entire restaurant, which by the way was more than 50% empty. Not for lack of demand, but lack of staff. Food was on par and excellent but not enough to offset the atrocious customer experience. read more
