This is an excellent Cracker Barrel and underrated. I've never been a Cracker Barrel fan but, I've changed my opinion of the chain over the past six months. We were in town visiting and decided to go to the Gulfport Cracker Barrel. I never write negative reviews, but this experience was so bad I can't just let it go. We went on a Saturday evening around 6 PM, which is usually one of the busiest times for Cracker Barrel. To my surprise, there were only about three other couples dining besides us. The atmosphere felt cold and uninviting, nothing like the warm, welcoming feel Cracker Barrel used to have when it was at the top of its game. Our server was extremely slow. We were there for nearly two hours, and I still don't understand why. She only had our table, as another waitress was handling the other customers, yet it took her 20 minutes just to bring a glass of tea. Everything we requested was delayed to the point of frustration. The food itself was a huge disappointment. It was bland, and my grits were cold and clumped together, clearly sitting out all day. Cracker Barrel used to be my favorite restaurant. The manager came to the table and she was really sweet and offered to bring ice cream too. They must not give you biscuits until your food comes now. Not sure but that's when we got ours. Ordered thanksgiving meals and picked the 3 of them up behind their business. 2 openings for cars to pickup the meals, right line had 3 cars, left line had none. I chose the left line and got served before the 3 cars that were waiting when I arrived. I felt bad....for a minute, until I could smell the food I just picked up:) brought a smile to my face...anyways, the food was adequate, it's my 3rd year doing it, and prefer their food over the work it would take to prepare our own meals. Food was always good, when you can get what you order. I have now twice gotten a delivery order through Door Dash that was missing a paid-for item, and was refused a refund on both orders. One order was for a bowl of chicken noodle soup. The other one (today) was for a breakfast sandwich that I ordered an impossible sausage add-on, and did not get the sausage. I'm going to start with the positives. The food was good and Jennifer was fantastic, it's just a shame she wasn't our server. So our server was Jeannie and our service was terrible. We got there just before 9:00 and they got busy shortly thereafter so we understood a bit of a wait. BUT...she told us that at 9:00 they changed her tables so she only had 3 and would be able to "dedicate more time to us"...yeah, that never happened! It took her FOREVER to bring out biscuits and jelly. Then when our food finally did come she forgot my brother's hashbrown casserole. We had to flag down a manager to get that because she was nowhere to be seen. We say all the other servers hustling about but not ours who only had 3 tables at this point. I had to ask for creamer for my coffee several times and for napkins. When we were about finished eating she brought out our ticket and said she'd be "back to check on us shortly"...well I don't need you to check on me NOW! So the parking lot was empty and we assumed that was a good thing as it was superbowl Sunday. No waiting to get seated as there were literally only 3 other tables of customers in the place. We came here because I wanted breakfast and well it is Cracker Barrel and that is kinda their thing! Well it seemed today all of the cooks must have called out and all of the back up cooks were out too. It seriously appeared as no on enter knew how to cook today. I ordered my breakfast with over easy eggs. Now every place I have ever been over easy means runny yolk and semi sold white. Over medium is solid white and runny yolk. Over hard is just gross.. as everything is hard. So,I get my eggs and know Right away they are way over cooked. I hate sending Food back because I have seen enough YouTube videos of people spiting in it etc. but my eggs were gross and I could not eat them so I did send the, back. The eggs I got back on the second try were just as bad. I cute them up just to see if by chance they might be medium but no luck, solid yolks and burned whites. At that point I was done. My wife's food was an easy order. A cheeseburger. Well I guess since it is winter they are serving hockey pucks as her burger was the hardest most well done burger I have ever seen. She even asked for it to be cooked medium. Who ever was cooking has no clue how to cook and who ever the manager is has no clue how to manage as we still paid for a meal we did not eat. it was not comped or those items taken off our check. I am not one to argue so I simply paid the check and we left and went somewhere else for dinner. We walked next door to Logan's. It is a crying damn shame when you have to buy dinner twice to get a meal you can actually eat. This was the worst meal I have ever had at a Cracker Barrel. And again let me point out by the time we had left only two other tables had been seated. It was not busy at all so there is zero excuse for the awful food. I hope someone from Cracker Barrel reads this and reaches out because I should, not have had to pay for a meal we did not eat and left sitting on the table. This particular location always has excellent fast service. The restrooms are clean and the store is always well stocked. They usually sell local college football merchandise at discounted prices. Food was not good, nor fresh. Country fried steak was frozen and flash fried, carrots were probably nuked and without flavor, baked potato came very late and was obviously nuked. Ham was dry and over done, hash browns overcooked, French toast was just ok. Need to not rush the order and focus on quality. This was the absolute worst, wasted money. Being this was a second chance, we won't be returning. For the ticket total we could have gone across the street to longhorn and had fabulous food. Waitress was good but I think she was too overwhelmed to be great. This place should just stick to the retail and give up the rest. Cracker barrel was good back in the day but not anymore. Went here on a whim for the all day breakfast. We ordered the "Momma's pancake breakfast" and the "Country boy breakfast". The pancakes were fine, nothing special. Ihop or denny's pancakes are way better IMO. The side dish: sausage, was a dry puck but at least it was not salty. The eggs were on the softer side/mushy for scrambled eggs which is not ideal. The ham with the country boy breakfast was not ok to consume, my husband said it smelt bad and I verified it smelt foul. This location has recent health code violations I found out AFTER we ate. My fault for not checking the yelp page first. The iced Lattes were good although messy. The service was fine, nice and helpful workers. Overall the food was incredibly mid and that might be on a good day. This location clearly could use a refresh on perhaps upper management and definitely needs a refresh on food safety standards. The building itself looked well kept, the tables were clean and we were seated quickly. Again friendly service and staff. I would not recommend eating here in general. This location clearly needs some help and I believe it could become a great spot if the health safety and attention to detail was fixed and for that I give 2 stars on its potential but off of food quality it's a 1 star. read more

Cracker Barrel is just Cracker Barrel, just about everywhere you go its the same, right? There was a short wait, not bad at all. The hostess was pleasant and told us about the specials for the day before seating us. The server took a while getting to us, but we weren't in a hurry, so we didn't mind. She was very pleasant and apologized for the wait. She was friendly and checked on us several times to make sure we had what we needed. We even shared a couple of laughs. The food was just lime we expected, like I said before, Cracker Barrel is just that. No matter where you go, it's the same. I did ask for my bacon to be extra crispy and my eggs over medium, and it was spot on. We tried the vanilla latte, which was good, I usually get the hot cocoa, but I was trying something different. An older blonde waitress gave the worst service I have ever had. We get there at 8:45 and she says the kitchen closes in 15 minutes rather than asking what we'd like to drink. The website says they close at 10:00. She's giving surly service to the table across from us where the patron is shooting us commiserating glances. She gets his order wrong and gives my buddy hash browns that taste like shoes. She gives us two orders of chicken fingers and fries with no offer of sauces or ketchup. I wish I noted her name. My eggs came out way too runny (borderline raw), and the hash browns were hard and undercooked like they barely touched the grill. To top it off, my pancakes didn't even come out with the rest of my meal -- they arrived well after I was already halfway done, cold and disappointing. The only person who seemed to care at all was the busboy, who was friendly and working hard to keep things clean. Sadly, that's the only positive thing I can say. There's not a lot of differentiation between Cracker Barrel menus, but I'm pretty sure there may be some regional differences. However, the country stores all seem to sell goods particular to their region, especially when it comes to college sports gear. My below review "in quotation marks" is from a different location in Slidell, LA; however, this is the same region, and the menu and country store are pretty similar. The Gulfport, MS store does feature sports gear from the Mississippi State Universities such as University of Mississippi, Mississippi State, Southern Miss. and Old Miss. What sets most Cracker Barrel's apart, and this one in particular, is the service. Our server Lyranda G., is the best server we've ever had at any Cracker Barrel. She is quick, nice, professional and attentive, and I would definitely request to be seated in her station if we ever go back to this store. Also, kudos to the cashier Katrina. I forgot my reading glasses at the counter on my visit. I telephoned that night and she had them. Then she tagged them, put my name on them, and held them for a week until I made my next trip to Mississippi. Saved me a lot of money by holding them for me. This was absolutely the worst Cracker Barrel I have ever been too. The bathroom smelled horrible like cigarette smoke. Our waitress was slow, mixed up orders, forgot to bring things we asked for. Brought the biscuits and cornbread at the very end of the meal. And I don't know who works in the kitchen there but the food was horrible. Its obvious that this particular location, does not handle "rushes" very well. The wait to be seated isn't an issue. Its the service. Here is my timeline after we were sat. I get it, it was busy, but still, the basics should still apply. Meet greet and acknowledge. Our order was eventually taken by a food expeditor. 13 mins to be greeted, another 7 minutes to have our food and drink ordered. 45 mins to actually get your food. The obvious signs of the kitchen, rushing food out......half cooked bacon, to the point it was still raw in some spots. Biscuits in the basket were still doughy, not all the way cooked. At this point it isn't about getting quality food, its about eating what you got and getting out. Hopefully this changes soon. We have no issues going somewhere else. read more
