My friend who had been to the South said I had to try Waffle House. I didn't have a chance in ATL, but I had no excuse this time: This location was across the street from the Beau Rivage where I stayed. I was still hungry after a small meal at a local place. I had something small here w/o starch: The Texas grilled cheese & bacon w/ chili. The meal hit the spot! The thick bread dipped well into the nicely seasoned chili. All the flavors melded together well. Waffle House's chili is right up there with Rainbow's on O'ahu, one of my fave chilis. Regarding the ambiance, its super casual. You can see the chefs and workers busy as hell serving all the hungry diners. It was packed @ 10:30 am on a Thu. I sat at the counter and the woman who waited on me was super nice and efficient. My check was small, but I gave her a 50% tip to let her know I appreciated her working hard. Waffle House is a must for me now when I am in the South. Waffle House is by far the most popular restaurant along the Gulf Coast. There are a dozen of them along Beach Blvd between here and Gulfport. Crazy, eh? This is the first one that I've ever seen on stilts. I'm guessing that this is a replacement since Hurricane Katrina, but I don't know. It's the same layout and style as every other one, other than being one level higher. There are stairs at the front and handicapped access from the back. Otherwise, it's the same WH layout, menu and service as I've seen and experienced a few dozen times around the United States. I was greeted when I came in and again when I took my seat. My first time in Mississippi and my first time to the Waffle House! This 2am stop was literally the best part of our night in Biloxi. The food was great, and the service was some of the fastest I've ever seen. But the reason I gave this place 5 stars was because of the staff at this location. Everyone here made us feel at home. We had a blast laughing and talking to all the employees. When they found out that this was our first time at Waffle House- they made sure we had an amazing experience. Our waitress Belle was really sweet and friendly. She took our order quickly and she made sure we had great tunes on the jukebox. Her mom Nikki also works here. She brought us over Waffle House hats and made us feel special. The cook also stopped by our table during our meal too. We we're here about an hour and had so much fun. I will literally be telling people about our Waffle House experience for years to come. When you leave the casinos late, and need something to eat- definitely stop here. Good food, good conversation, really quick service and inexpensive food. What more could you ask for! Ok, had to get away from the Beau Rivage for a meal. Went to the Waffle House, or should I call it the Ice House? I'm normally hot blooded and desire the temperature cool, but this place is insane. The is the friendliest, most efficient, and all around best Waffle House I've ever visited. The corporate office should send their execs here and have them take notes. The place was pretty packed around noon on a Saturday and they had us lined up waiting for tables but the wait wasn't more than 5 minutes. The food was Waffle House perfection (pecan waffles are the best with a side of crispy bacon) and they got my loaded up hashbrown toppings correct. Service was about the friendliest and most efficient you'll see anywhere and the "Waffle House Princess" (yes that's on her hat) will take great care of you. Beat the club crowd here tonight, so plenty of seats available and not at all rowdy. Ordered the cheesesteak melt with extra onions... It's amazing to me with places like the Waffle House that the history books say the South was defeated because, ahem, they have the Waffle House so clearly they are #WINNING! On the way to my Dad's apartment from the airport we laughed because these are literally on every block in a very short radius. On the West Coast it's the equivalent of a Starbucks or McDonald's everywhere, but my inner southern boy weaps at the fact that there isn't at least one around here because they bleed what America is about and needs to get back to. However as I learned, the South is it's own lesson and something you just can't teach! I was looking forward to this for a solid month prior to my trip and while overwhelmingly taken back at the simplicity of the menu (eggs, sides, waffles, hash browns) I didn't want to make a poor decision in the end. I dove waffle iron first into the all-star special which held up to its name indeed. The scrambled eggs were fluffy and buttery, down home love indeed! The sausage patty was charred to perfection and that tickle of spice that leaves you shouting come on y'all from every section of the Gulf. Then if that's not enough, the Waffle!?! I admit afterwards I kick myself for not having the pecan waffle, but in my temporary amnesia I've found a reason to go back. Haha. The waffles though are legit contenders as I like mine a bit softer and these didn't disappoint. Drowning in syrup and butter they absorbed it in and warmed my heart all at the same time. Just a damn good down home hearty meal! The Southern charm radiates from the staff here. They are just genuine hard working people and really know how to appreciate a thank you. When told I traveled from California and blabbed for a month nonstop about it, that was met with a smile and a come and see us again soon! If I had died that day I'd have been a happy man straight up! I know it does sound silly, but this is as American as it gets. In the south, they take there WH's seriously so I was expecting a little bit better service than in Oklahoma City...I was not disappointed, and the Yelp reviews were spot on again! The waffles here are the bomb!! 5 stars for the waffle for sure. They aren't Belgian, so they aren't thick. They are packed with whichever added ingredient you choose so that every bite has some. We chose pecan and blueberry. I love the added texture from the pecan waffle, but liked the tart/sweetness from the blueberry. I should have just asked them to do blueberry pecan all in one! The biscuit was pretty yummy too, just wish it had a little more crunch on the outside. The gravy was thick and flavorful. Prices are incredible! We fed 4 people for about $25. The service is quick and it's cool how you can watch them cook the food if you sit at the counter. read more
