Stopped into Cracker Barrel for a late dinner. It was about 8 p.m. when we arrived. Pretty empty since it was so late for your typical dinner hours. We did breeze through the gift shop as we made our way to the hostess stand. As much as we wanted to look at everything, we knew we were on a time crunch. At the hostess stand, I did see a few servers still working and about 2 tables of guests. A larger table that was wrapping up and another party of 3. We waited for quite a while for someone to get us sat. I know the gal at the register in the gift shop had told someone over the headset that we needed to be helped. After what seemed like an abnormal wait time for someone to greet us, we finally got taken care of. We breezed through the menu while the gentleman that was taking care of us tonight grabbed our drinks. We knew that we didn't want to stay too late so we ordered dinner as soon as our drinks were dropped off. We got the hamburger steak, chicken fried steak and fried fish for dinner. My husband polished off his plate. He had his favorites for dinner. Fried fish, corn with mac and cheese. My hamburger steak was good. It was well done which is how I like it! The brocolli was steamed nicely. I didn't know what the carrots were supposed to taste like. They honestly tasted like soggy, watered down carrots that have a hint of sweetness to it. I was expecting more of a glazed, sweet carrot. I'll just know next time not to order them. But the best part of the meal were the biscuits! They were warm, soft and savory on top. Add that butter in there and it's a perfection! After dinner, we checked out the store! It's our favorite part. Looking at all the fun things they have. My husband and I love looking at all the toys. I couldn't stay away from all the Halloween goodies. I promised my husband I wouldn't decorate early so it was hard for me not to buy anything orange and black. Cracker Barrel knows what they are doing having a fun store like this at their restaurant! Overall, dinner was good. The rolls were banger. Service was ok. It took forever for us to get sat. Our server did vanish for a while after our food was dropped off. We paid almost 4 dollars for a small glass of soda and my husband didn't even get a refill. We have been to this location several times and it can be pretty inconsistent...in the past, we've waited over an hour for food (only for it to come out cold and overcooked), we've had poor service, we've has exceptional service, we've had perfectly cooked food and quite the opposite. So, I've always been hesitant to write a review since I couldn't ever make up my mind about either loving or hating this location. We went early on a Thursday night, so there wasn't any wait. After being seated, we were quickly greeted by our friendly server. She quickly served our drinks and our orders were ready as soon as she returned. I ordered the smokehouse grilled chicken plate (2 seasoned chicken breasts) and three sides (house salad with ranch, fries and Mac & cheese) and my husband had the country fried steak with brown gravy, corn and mashed potatoes. My salad came out first with the most fresh lettuce, plump tomatoes, crisp-tender cucumbers, bacon, and large shreds of cheddar cheese. The ranch tasted like a cross between bleu cheese and ranch, was pretty thick, just wasn't my favorite. This was followed by my perfectly grilled chicken, which was exceptionally tender and juicy. My fries were a little undercooked, but that Mac and cheese was truly delicious....and I actually don't really love Mac and cheese (just sounded good). Hubby couldn't stop raving about his steak, a glowing non-stop review. Unfortunately, our server disappeared in the kitchen and didn't return for refills until our meals were almost finished. I couldn't finish my meal, so we had a lot of yummy leftovers. When we were leaving, a manager spotted me carrying multiple containers and walked up with an open bag, offering the bag to me while helping me load the containers inside (so thoughtful!). Visited there yesterday. Our waitress, Joanna greeted us with the usual 'How are you' , when we asked her back she said she was tired. We immediately felt guilty to even order any drinks and just asked for water, my daughter said she didn't want anything and to save herself the burden, and we also stated we were ready to order. So as to save her an extra trip. We received our food but had no utensils so as our food cooled she brought us utensils. Side note , her other table didn't wait and retrieved their own. While eating our meal a bus person was cleaning a nearby table and knocked the pepper shaker to the floor. She picked it up and placed it back on the table. When I informed our waitress of this she said she would speak to her about it. I thought she would replace the pepper shaker. NOPE! She walked right past it. I don't even know if she spoke to the bus person. If this is how the front of the house is run, I don't want to imagine what goes on in the kitchen. We did not finish our meals nor take any leftovers. We love the Cracker Barrel and have enjoyed decades and multiple generations of meals, celebrating occasions and milestones. Just to note, we have visited a lot of different locations for these events. Cracker Barrel is our go to because it has something for everyone. But if this is the standard they now have, we will have to find another go to place. read more

We have been so disappointed with our experiences at Cracker Barrel in Nampa for the past year. We had actually stopped going because the food hasn't been the best and they had changed things so much that it wasn't even fun anymore. But, because a we hadn't been for a long time, we decided to try it again a couple of weeks ago and we took some friends there for dinner. My meal was just "okay" my husband ordered the catfish and asked for it to be "extra crispy". When it came out, it was terrible! You could pick it up and it sort of "wilted" in your hand. The biscuits didn't come out until we were finished with our meal....and my husband had ordered a side of biscuits and gravy! We said "never for dinner again". But alas, we wanted to go to breakfast a couple of days ago and thought "Why not give Cracker Barrel ONE LAST TRY?" So, we did. I ordered scrambled eggs, ham, hash brown casserole with biscuits. My husband ordered hard fried eggs, regular hash browns and biscuits and gravy (again). We waited for quite a while to get our meal and when it came, it was BAD! No biscuits and gravy (again!). My eggs were hard fried, not scrambled. And I don't know WHAT they have done to the hash brown casserole that they used to serve but this was NO WHERE NEAR the same! It was dry, and came out like dried regular hash browns.....and no, they weren't the regular hash browns that my husband ordered, his was completely different. It tasted terrible! I told our waitress that I had ordered scrambled eggs, not the hard fried and she said, "I put that on the ticket, the kitchen made a mistake." Then she hesitated like she didn't even want to offer to make me some more. She finally said, "I guess I could change it for you." Well, we had already waited a LONG time to get served and I didn't want to wait until they could redo my meal. Oh and the ham......it was like a piece of jerky! Both my husband and I both got ham and it was SO SALTY and dry that neither of us could eat it. So, we have tried over and over to give them a chance to redeem themselves. But when going out to eat is as bad as that and we paid so much money........we will NEVER go back to Cracker Barrel again....not Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. It's just not worth it. And it is really sad because we used to LOVE Cracker Barrel.....it was our favorite place to eat and we always took friends out there. read more

Cracker Barrel continues it's decline. We stopped for lunch hoping for a satisfying, tasty meal before a long drive home. We both ordered the meat loaf dinners, which generally are pretty tasty. Both of ours were warmed over from sitting in a warming oven. Looked like yesterday's leftovers. The sides as well were small portions, just warm, and biscuits were about the same -- warmed over and dry. CB has lost its touch, as food quality has really deteriorated in past couple years. CB where we live closed it's doors over a year ago. Sad to see this as CB had a great thing going for many years, but the magic touch seems to be lost. When you see only about 5-6 people eating in their large dining areas at lunch time, it's not a good sign. read more

Service was incredibly slow. We went in and were seated immediately and still didn't get our food til an hour after we got there. Waitress was slow and had attitude. She was short in her responses and seemed distracted and annoyed. No apologies or even an acknowledgment for the long wait. It took her about 15 min to even come and take our drink orders. Portion size was slightly below moderate, sausage patty lacked any interesting flavor. Bacon was OK. Coffee was good pancakes had the taste of griddle grease throughout and were oily. Ambience was as to be expected. Lots of decorations and very cozy. It could be a little cleaner. It looks like it has some wear and tear with some restaurant grime lingering. Service was really good. Medium rare steak was medium in some places, and well done in the rest. Carrots and corn tasted like it was out of a can with no taste. Server came by at the end of the meal for the first time and simply asked if there was anything else he could get us...we didn't even have butter for the rolls...but we were fed up and ready to go. We usually love Cracker Barrel and go to the Boise one often but the experience yesterday in Nampa was terrible. We had to wait 10 minutes to be seated. They were not busy. We were finally seated and then another 10 minutes to be waited on. We got our coffee which was very good and we ordered our food. It took 25 minutes for our eggs and biscuits to be served. I ordered classic hash browns instead of hash brown casserole. We watched our waitress talk at a few different tables. She carried on long conversations while we waited for our food. We finally asked the hostess to check on our order. My hash browns were disgusting. Dark brown and very greasy. I asked the waitress to bring me a plate so I could take them off my plate. She actually said "I told them that grille must be dirty for the potatoes to look like that" but she served them to me anyway. All in all the eggs were good, biscuits were good but the gravy was not hot. This was not up to Cracker Barrel standards and very disappointing. Good/Solid American comfort cuisine! Stopped by while visiting the Boise area. We've been to Cracker Barrel restaurants in NV, UT, CA, AZ, and now ID. The common denominator is good food at reasonable prices with great service. Being able to order breakfast at any time is an added bonus. The decore is simple Americana full of nostalgia of (perhaps) better times. The gift shop at the entrance is always fun to browse, and some unique gifts were found for our kids back home. Randy Travis was playing while I enjoyed my chicken fried steak, and my bride raved about the trout. Our server, Jason, was very friendly and attentive. He was prompt and ensured our glasses remained full. From our hostess to the gift shop clerk and Jason, all greeted us with smiles and made us feel welcomed. We'll be back and puck up a rocker! Last week my wife and I stopped by this Cracker Barrel in Nampa on the way home from shopping. Was approx 4:30-5 pm and wasn't at all that busy. A young man at the reservations desk walked us into the dinning area and wanted to seat us in the middle of the dinner area and I asked if we could instead take a table that was approx 10ft from this one and he said he would go ask. He came back and said we would have to seat at the table he showed us. And of course I said "Are you kidding me?". That area was wide open with empty tables but wouldn't let us move 10ft. We asked to talk to the Manager and that took approx 5-10 minutes. We told her the issues and she said "yes he did right buy refusing to re-seat us to table by window and not in the middle of dinning area because it was a certain waitress's turn to get a customer to wait on". Manager did mumble that we could get a different table but would be in another section of restaurant. I never chose the section they showed us first. We have a couple cracker barrels in our area and by far this location has always been the worst. Food is ok but the "staff and managers" are a joke. If I could give them a ZERO rating I would. Both locations in our general area are about the same, and you won't lose either way. Salads were super fresh, food came out super quick, and it was all the way it was supposed to be. You don't come here for organic avocado based stuff. I went with chicken fried chicken (Sunday Chicken), mashed potatoes and a salad. Husband went with the chicken and dumplings, mashed potatoes and a salad. Both with white peppered gravy cause that's the kind that tastes the best. Ranch- the "good stuff" and homemade sourdough croutons (didn't expect that!). Servers are always friendly, always helpful and don't vanish when you need refills. Take CocaCola cake to go. Incredibly disappointing. According to my son, dining at Cracker Barrel on our last day in town is tradition. This Cracker Barrel in particular is the one we go to the most, and we have always had an excellent experience. Until last Friday evening. When we checked in, we were told that there would be a 30-40 minute wait for our party. No problem, it was clearly a busy night and I'm always happy to poke around in the store. At the 30 minute mark, I approached the hostess stand so that I would be able to hear when my party was called. It was at this time that another large party checked in. started loudly arguing with the hostesses and demanded to be seated immediately. The manager became involved at this point and promptly sat the party...at what I can only assume was supposed to be my table. When I approached the manager and asked when my party would be seated, she replied "Oh, you're next". I overheard the young hostesses talking and the loud, angry party was indeed seated at what should have been my party's table. I then proceeded to watch nine people be seated ahead of my party, in fairly short order. Throughout this time, the manager was standing in the dining room and avoiding my gaze, leaving her hostesses to deal with me I suppose. When I approached the manager (still in the dining room) and asked exactly when I would be seated, she again told me I was next. I told her it was bad enough that she gave my table away, but then to tell me my party was "next" when clearly we were not going to be seated "next" was unacceptable. First she denied giving my table away, then when I pressed her she admitted to it, repeatedly stating that I needed to "Listen" to her. She told me that her servers were extremely overwhelmed and she couldn't just sit another large party. I told her that I did not expect her to overwhelm her servers more; however I did expect that when I am told I would be "next" that I would indeed be seated "next". She continued to be both confrontational and condescending, repeating that I needed to listen to her. I told her that I was extremely unimpressed with her customer service and she shrugged at me dismissively. At this point, I had had enough. I know that there are staffing issues and supply issues, and I totally understand that there are things outside of one's control, especially during the pandemic, however I was shocked to be treated so poorly, especially after having such a lovely experience at the Boise Cracker Barrell just two days prior. read more

The breakfasts are decent but the last 4 steaks we ordered both for dinner and breakfast came out very well done and not medium rare. Never had the steals come out correctly. Today we dined in and the server brought our check nit long after we started eating (not even asking if we wanted Desert or anything else. We've been coming to Cracker Barrel locations for many years. Today was the first time that we had to wait 45 minutes for our simple breakfasts, which were cold. Also, when I asked for silverware, we got a fork. Only a fork! I asked for a knife to spread butter on the cold toast and was told "We're out of knives." Coffee refills kept coming, but apparently, they were also out of HOT coffee. Room temp. I could understand it if they were short staffed, but there appeared to be a large wait staff. read more

This is the worst restaurant I have ever been in. I'm a cook and have worked in many kitchens and all I can say is this place should be inspected by South-West Canyon County Health department ASAP. I will be filling a complaint and ask for an inspector do visit this filth. If they leave the dinning room looking like this, than imagine the kitchen. Who owns this place? Food was salty, cold, overcooked, and green beans were slimy. The dinning room floor was so greasy, I was worried of elderly people slipping. I'm used to eating homemade food with real ingredients. This place is about the complete opposite of that. If you like good-tasting food don't come here. The food took over 30 minutes to arrive. Salad was good but everyone can make a salad. Biscuits taste grainy (because they're from a powder mix) and corn muffin was okay but way too sweet/salty. The loaded sweet potato was overkill on the sweetness and was missing something. The salted butter could use improvement. Overall not impressed. Our server Ashley was so sweet but looked overwhelmed the whole time and was running to a ton of different tables. Staff definitely need more help when it's busy. The cooks also forgot to make one of the items I ordered. The ambiance was good. Not too loud but definitely not quiet either. It's pretty cold on the store side and hot on the restaurant side. They don't take pride in their food. They'll serve stuff that is way over-cooked. Nobody checks the sides to see if they're any good. They don't think about meal presentation - they serve sides on separate plates which makes a crowded mess on a table. Whoever manages this restaurant should be replaced - the place is sucky. read more

So I want to first start off and say our server was awesome. Super polite young man and was extremely friendly. The food all came out and looked great! Then while eating, the country ham. Noticed the taste to be foul. I have had the ham more than a few times in the past and it was salty but still very good. This tasted like rotten feet. So I smelt it, and it honestly tasted like rotten old nasty feet. Two in our group said the same thing. We informed that waiter and he took the plates and apologized. He came back a few minutes later and said his manager said he smelt it and compared to another and said, " it's an acquired taste," and he was in the kitchen making us a new piece of ham. Which we honestly were shocked about. After the taste in our mouth we were not going to eat another piece of whatever year that meat was from. So waiter goes back into the kitchen and tells the manager we did not want another piece, and he comes back out and says he was able to convince the manager to remove that meal off the check. Not once did the manager come and talk with us, just used the waiter to be his messenger. Extremely disappointed. Upper management might want to have a chat with the manager on duty this morning. read more

Oh Cracker Barrel... Every time I visit I want to love it. Overwhelmingly just OK- slightly above a Denny's for more expensive. My group came in during social distancing and dined in and I have to say, the spacing between tables was very nice, and we felt we had enough room for our party of four adults and two children. We got our drinks fairly quickly but once we order food it was a bit of a wait. Our group tried every avenue things like chicken fried steak, salads, and the cheesy bacon potatoes. My dad is a big fan of the cheesy bacon potatoes. The chicken fried steak was OK but I didn't think it was worth the price we paid. Overall I would say there's something for everyone on this menu and the stories fun but not summer I'm going to choose to go all of the time. I would rather give my business to a small business with better quality food. read more
