It's been a while since I've visited a Cracker Barrel, so it was nice to take a friend to this location in Washington, PA for her birthday dinner. We stopped in around 3 on a Wednesday afternoon, with no crowds, and room to walk around the country store. The hostess seated us right away. Our server was Ashley, and while she was friendly, she didn't seem to be concerned about her tables once the food was served. It's nice when a server pops over a few times to make sure things are okay, which is the usual case at other Cracker Barrels, and with other servers we've had here. I ordered the fried catfish with three sides, (turnip greens, fried okra, mashed potatoes with gravy), while my friend ordered the grilled trout with two sides, (broccoli, and steak fries). Both dishes came out cooked well, and my friend was happy with how flavorful her food was. I enjoyed my fried catfish, okra, and turnip greens. The mashed potatoes with gravy were a little dry. The corn muffins were hard, but the biscuits were fine. Overall, we did enjoy our food, service was meh. read more

We were so excited to find there was a Cracker Barrel right by our hotel while traveling! We seek them out as we have none at home, this was an unexpected surprise. Even better this location had no wait and was super quiet! We were seated immediately, our server was the sweetest lady who chatted with us and made sure we were taken care of. Food came out quickly and plentiful, our server made sure we had all the condiments, napkins and straws we needed and topped our drinks off frequently. We had 2 different breakfast plates and a lunch plate with chicken and meatloaf, all amazing! The crisp on the chicken was so good and I don't even eat chicken. Such a great experience and we really appreciated the hospitality of our server, I wish I could remember her name. Not the best visit. I was sat at the table i wanted, in the corner with my back to no one. Thank you! I ordered the Thursday turkey lunch special, BIG mistake on my part. I should have gone with the regular Grandma breakfast, which you can never go wrong with. Let start with the hair in the greens, that was my opportunity to choose what i know, and I didnt. Now I do hate to say, but there is absolutely no flavor in this Thursday Turkey lunch special, reminds me of the Thursday special at assisted living facilities I've worked at, im sorry but that's what it reminds me of. I mean maybe that's what goes with the patrons at this place, looking around, LOL! Everyone is maybe 70+, i mean aside from myself and a young child that's probably with his granny, I guess the food is OK. But definitely not for 60 and under, we need seasonings of some type. The unsweetened tea was good. Biscuits were just a little to soft, the fell apart as I picked one up, but butter and jelly made them better, I'd prefer a more baked outside and soft inside. Our bus tour operator called ahead and asked could you handle 40 people and they said yes. Once we were inside, we realized that they must do this dozens of times a month because it was like a well oiled machine. They lined us all up in a special line and took us in groups of 4 to tables. Our entire bus was seated with menus in literally less than four minutes. And then when we saw how the waitstaff operated, we knew that this was something they were adept at. Great meal. Great service and we were in and out so efficiently that I had to give a 10 star shout out to this location. read more

As far as Cracker Barrel's go, this one was above average. Their menu featured the new herb chicken (the extra herb sauce since it's runnier in texture came on the side) with potatoes and a side. The chicken was juicy and flavorful and portion size was plentiful. The mashed potatoes were so-so; needed more flavor and weren't as creamy in consistency as I would have liked. But the turnip greens were great (had plenty of meat in them) and the biscuit and cornbread were nicely baked. The waitress was also super attentive and helpful. Ok let me start by saying I am not particularly dazzled by Cracker Barrel in general but it makes my girlfriend happy. First off I am a vegetarian so it's hard to find much to eat and I like to eat. The barrel-topped skewer used to hold the burger together (when it's being served) is a nice touch. The service was friendly and attentive as well. I'm not a die hard Cracker Barrel fan, but I'm also willing to dine at one if invited by friends. That's what happened earlier this month when a group of us made breakfast plans. Based on my visit I'd say that this is a pretty standard Cracker Barrel. It's of course set up so that you have to walk through their general store to reach the hostess (good luck to all the parents whose children walk right by the cute stuffed animals!). Our group arrived early enough that we did not have to wait long for a table. I think that our waitress tried to apologize at one point for making us wait for menus, but I honestly thought she was moving through her tables very quickly; and we weren't left waiting long for our food at all. I ordered an egg sandwich that was quite good - it's pretty hard to go wrong with egg and tomato on very buttery bread. Unfortunately the hashbrown casserole that came with my main course was not particularly good. Everyone in my group who ordered it noted that it had a strange aftertaste; "bitter" is how I would describe it. Definitely a bummer. While the side dish wasn't perfect, the main course definitely hit the spot - plus, the basket of delicious Cracker Barrel biscuits we got more than made up for the less than perfect casserole. I was intrigued by the ads for the new menu item, campfire chicken. Not a good choice. tastes more like a day old rotisserie chicken from a grocery store. Very steamy and soupy, not at all like the ads which picture a more "campfire cooked" chicken. Don't waste your money on this one. Normally if I'm unhappy with an establishment, I don't post anything about them but not this time. I've eaten at this restaurant a few times and it's always been good. The food was also good this time. The problem was the time it took to get my food. It took 40 minutes to receive my order and that was after asking about it. The order was a basic breakfast for one, two sunny side up eggs, 2 smoked sausage patties, sausage gravy and biscuits, and grits. I received my coffee and orange juice right away but didn't hear back from my server until I asked the wait staff to investigate. The food came out right away. Which leads me to believe that I was forgotten. A couple were seated next to me about 20 minutes after me and both received their breakfast in 15 minutes. They were discussing how guests were being seated and she told the manager how they been going it for three years she's been there. He told her if she didn't do it a new way she could go home. This Cracker Barrel, similar to other locations, has a large store that sells home goods, clothing, and foods in front, but I did not buy anything there. I instead visited only the restaurant in back. The seating hostess and waitress were nice and promptly served my husband and me, but they did not seem enthusiastic about their jobs. My chair had crumbs on it, and the floor was dirty and slippery, so employees could have done a better job of cleaning. As for food, my orange juice was pulpy but tasty, my bacon was perfectly crispy, my eggs were sunny-side-up as I had requested, and my pancakes had a sweet topping of large peach chunks. Sadly, my husband did not enjoy his food as much. His scrambled eggs and plain pancakes were OK, but he did not like his ham or gravy biscuits. My Mom was hospitalized in Washington, PA at the end of October. While visiting her one morning, she said that she was hungry for a bacon sandwich. I decided to head over to Cracker Barrel. I ordered a side of bacon, two slices of white bread and a large Diet Coke to go. I explained to the server that it was an unusual order; however, was all that my mother was hungry for. She assured me that it was no problem. I browsed the store while I waited. A few minutes later the young lady approached me with a smile. She handed me the food and said, "No charge today, ma'am. I just hope that your mom feels better." I thanked her profusely, but in my rush, forgot to get her name. I just wanted to recognize this random act of kindness that really touched me, and got me through a very uncertain time. For a family meal this is a great place that can definitely accommodate every taste. Of course it is a filling meal. They are doing a great job with social distancing and abiding by the rules set forth to help prevent the spread of the virus. Upon showing up you will give your name and wait to be called to enter. You don't even get to go in until this happens. Wait times can vary, but it does not take long. Once inside it kind of goes swiftly. I'm not going to go over the menu as it is the same and has not changed. Our service was superb. Our server was on top of things and even though we may have a request, she was always right there for us. Our food was pretty on spot. I of course went overboard and got the three sides instead of two. I felt like I needed to be rolled out of here by the time I finished. I'm not sure what is happening to this Cracker Barrel, but my food was terrible. The first time ever in decades of going to Cracker Barrels all over I can honestly say it was really bad. I ordered dumplings that were so salty it burned my mouth. They replaced it with a twice cooked burger. They stated they ruined the first burger, I had to wait til they prepared another. When I ate it, oh my! The patty was a frozen, low grade patty that had been microwaved and had bone chips in it. It was literally like chewing rubber. It was not edible. Others were complaining about downsizing in portions but paying higher prices as I left. Manager was not a good customer service person. read more

I typically head here for a reasonably priced breakfast. I like their chicken fried steak, simple grits, biscuits and gravy. I have had good and bad experiences, mainly based on which employee I end up with that day. I love their collard greens and when they have it, livers and onions. Most entrees are enough to feed two! They have something for everyone. I'm very partial to the Wednesday chicken pot pie. Can't beat the price for an almost home cooked meal. The service is always good. It has a cute store to look through when you have to wait for a seat. The fire place is awesome. It is literally warm and inviting. Reasonably priced, great food. We were seated immediately, but it took our server close to 10 minutes to tend to our table. We were given the heads up that it could take a while, so it was no biggie. It's always hard to decide between breakfast and dinner because they are both good. I got the fried chicken breast with mash potatoes and corn. The chicken is seasoned very well so I did without the sawmill gravy and it was delicious. The buttermilk biscuits were hot and soft and the BlackBerry jam complements them well. Overall, our food was hot, our server was nice and the price was very reasonable. I took 1 star off because some sides were mixed up in the kitchen, but our server fixed everything very promptly and took care of the table. read more

Just meh. They undercooked my turkey bacon and I had to send it back so it was not raw. My poached eggs were also soft boiled. There is a big taste difference, and I am not a fan of boiled eggs at all and CB reiterated this point loud and clear. My server was pretty apologetic for the mistakes that had been made despite having nothing to do with her. She was pleasant to have as our server and made the rest of the meal pretty painless. It's Cracker Barrel Right there you start at three starts and either build your way up or down. In this case my rating bounced like a yoyo. It was a Sunday and prime brunch time so I expected a wait. There were four of us and they told us 35 minutes and they were spot on Plus 1 star We were seated near the kitchen and under the table was a complete mess. My granddaughter dropped a row and was in a puddle of creamer meat something liquid. Minus 1 star Our waiter was pleasant and fast with the beverages. They were extremely busy. Cracker Barrel is definitely not for the faint hearted. My pals and I went on a snowy night in February (however, we were still able to enjoy the rocking chairs and church pews outside! ). The inside is truly a cozy sight to behold; you enter through the gift shop (I bought two salt and pepper shaker cows, how cute! Also, the prices were to die for). We were seated quickly and the fireplace nearby added to the ambiance created by the acceptive art work and wall displays. After scouring the menu, I went with the "Mama's Pancake meal." I was pleased to see the "All Day Breakfast" section of the menu because I was really in the mood for some country fried bacon with my unsweetened iced tea. Overall, I would recommend if you are looking for the perfect place to eat, shop, socialize, and of course: people watch. read more

Had no idea where to stop for dinner on our way through Pittsburgh to West Virginia and ended up deciding on Cracker Barrel for some yummy country food. This place is busy; we arrived just before a rush and when I went back out into the store part, there was a huuuuge line of people waiting. We were sat relatively quickly but either the servers are really laid back or everyone was moving reeeeal slow. I ended up getting their chicken fried chicken plate with the spiced apples, fried okra and mac n cheese. We also got biscuits, which were deeelicious. Our server was a bit distracted but fine otherwise. My chicken was good, if nothing really special. The okra left something to be desired and the mac and cheese was good but needed ketchup to make it sing. I didn't get the ketchup we asked for until I was halfway through my meal. Not a huge deal but I would have liked it when my meal arrived. Those cinnamon apples are BOMB - love those little bad boys. We also tried the cola cake and that was sooo amazing. A super chocolatey end to our meal that we both enjoyed. The meal was good but I don't know that we'd come back except to shop in the store. I found it annoying that the washrooms were in the store. I get it, you want me to see all the things you're selling, but when you can't keep up with the volume of people waiting to be sat, they all end up in the store and you have to weave your way around them just to go to the bathroom. The last time I had Cracker Barrel, it was amazing, so perhaps it was just this location or perhaps their down home country food just isn't as good as I remember it being. read more

I've spent most of my life (and all my adult life) avoiding chain stores and especially restaurants as much as possible and especially on road trips, but recently I've come to set goals on trips to help pass the time, and last week driving up from Florida I decided that I did, in fact, want to try a Cracker Barrel. Unfortunately I decided this in West Virginia, a virtual black hole of Cracker Barrels, so it wasn't until I was practically home and not very hungry that I got a chance to stop. We entered from the store, which I think is the only entrance and was a bit overwhelming but also kitschy and bizarre in the way I was expecting a Cracker Barrel to behave. There was a roaring fire waiting for us, which the General Manager poked and prodded every so often to keep going, certainly a pride of the job. Cheesy as it was, it was also quite cozy and comfortable and I could see why the place was full mainly of octogenarians and their great grandchildren. I got the Maine blueberry pancakes, with regular syrup instead of blueberry syrup, and my s/o got a meatloaf sandwich. I'm very picky about my pancakes and I'd say these were better than my favorite local place's and MAYBE as good as my dad's, which is saying a lot. If the blueberries weren't fresh well they fooled me, and the pancakes themselves were flavorful without tasting/feeling like they were deep fried which seems to be a tendency amongst Pittsburgh flapjackers. I finished two and took the third (and a mini bottle of syrup) home with me. S/O claimed he never really enjoyed meatloaf or a meatloaf sandwich and ordered it because it seemed the most Cracker Barrel thing on the menu that didn't require maple syrup. This sandwich passed his hard criticism and we both left happy. Main complaints are that 1) Cracker Barrel's claim to fame is real maple syrup, but it's really only a percentage maple syrup and the rest is natural sugar. Better than high fructose corn syrup but still, not the same. 2) the entry way was really disarming and distracting, having to go through a store to enter the restaurant. 3) this is one of those places where you pay at the register, with is also annoying to me but understandable, except that the register is also the store's register, so just to pay your bill you gotta wait behind a bunch of people paying in nickles and people trying to buy sock monkeys and nostalgic coca cola bottle paraphernalia. Over all, though, I'm not sure how this Cracker Barrel compares to others as it's the first one I've been to, but the food was good and the fire was cozy, a good way to head off the last stretch home. read more

I have always loved a Cracker Barrel. In the past I loved it for all of its delicious carb laden breakfasts, such as biscuits and gravy and grits. Now that I am avoiding carbs at all costs, their low carb breakfast many was absolutely amazing. I had the double meat breakfast with an order of the lower carb toast. For me this was amazing, having not had bread in close to 4 months. As always the service was fast and friendly and refills were quickly given on our drinks. If I am in the area again I will definitely be returning! read more
