When the Astros were still in the chase for the World Series, we decided to go to our local Cracker Barrel for dinner. There is something very comforting and nostalgic about walking into the country store of a Cracker Barrel at the start of Fall when the Halloween, Thanksgiving and Holiday decor are on display. Talk about "feeling a little bit like Christmas "! My wife and I sat down and shared the Country Fried Chicken with white gravy with three sides, mashed potatoes with brown gravy, fried okra and the Star of the side CB's scrumptious broccoli casserole with Ritz cracker topping (Yum!). The Country Fried Chicken was already split into two perfect halves, one for each of us. The batter was crisp and crunchy and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. The other two sides, were classically tasty, the mashed potatoes (we always get the gravy that is opposite of the one served with the entree, just for something different) and the fried okra. Sharing the entree and the sides was more than enough as my wife enjoyed hers with an iced tea and I had a Blue Moon (celebrating the Astros victory that night). We then took our time strolling through the country store again as we paid our bill and enjoyed wandering the aisles thinking ahead to the approaching holidays. Ho Ho Hooo! Merry ....! read more

Was so excited to eat at Cracker Barrel again and bring my boyfriend to a place I always ate as a child little did I know I should've gone somewhere else. Hostess took about 10 minutes to find her way to the host stand and then seat us ( still in high spirits though). About 6 min later I start to wonder dang where is our server.... Helping the table that got sat after us. They already had waters before us ! Which I know sounds rude but you're girl was thirsty. Worst Cracker Barrel we've ever gone to. A wait is expected but waiting over a hour once you sit down to get your food is not ok by the time we got all our food it was cold, talked to the manager and she didn't have much to say. Our server spilled water on one of us and powdered sugar down my back and there was a hair in my food again told the manager and she just said "I'll take it" and walked away. Customer service just really doesn't seem to be there thing. We won't be back to this location. read more

I'm going to start this review off with a complaint but I will finish up on a positive note. For my complaint I will have to give you a bit of backstory, I only get to visit my family A few times a year and we generally meet up to have lunch or dinner somewhere during these visits, On June 4th we chose Cracker Barrel as our meet up location and when everybody had arrived at the restaurant we asked for a table for 14 The hostess said we can do that and told us it would be about a 45-minute wait. We were fine with that considering our party size. Just about 45 minutes later we get a text to visit the hostess to be seated. the hostess precedes to sit us at 3 different tables so I mentioned to her that we asked for table 14 and I also let her know that I had just driven 6 hours to sit with my family and did not want to be seated separately. She said she would have to check to see if there was anything that could be done. She came back to let us know there is nothing that could be done unless we wanted to wait another 45 minutes. Of course, this made me angry considering the amount of time I had spent driving for this meet-up and to visit with family. Now I understand some restaurants cannot accommodate parties of the size and have to separate the party up on separate Tables but this is something that could have been mentioned at the hostess booth from the beginning but what makes me the angriest is it was completely possible as indicated by the hostess when she said that if we wanted a table together we would have to wait an additional 45 minutes. Something that should be considered by restaurant Hostess and management is that if somebody is showing up in a large party like in our case of 14 people that there is a reason for that, like a Celebration or event if you are celebrating something or having some kind of event Or gathering and you're doing so at a restaurant it is because you want to be able to visit and or communicate with a people celebrating with you. The fact that I'm having to explain this is ridiculous. I just wish after driving for 6 hours I would have got to visit with all of my family and not just a few members of our party. With my complaints out of the way, our waitress was amazing she managed to stay on top of all 3 of our tables making sure everyone's needs were met and everybody's orders were correct and the food was good as expected. Very busy location. My daughter and I came on a Friday lunch. It was a 30-40 min wait. It didn't help that I was already hungry when I arrived. I ordered the Friday special with a salad while my daughter ordered a mamas breakfast. We had so much food that we took it home. The food was great. The fish and chips I got were tasty. It was worth coming and waiting. The little show was fun to browse. Stars. 1 star for service 1 star for food 1 star for bathrooms 1 star for overall experience -parking was difficult. Came here for a meal today with my family and was not very impressed. The food was ok but the fact that they had multiple items out of stock was very frustrating! This information was not conveyed to us before ordering which was even more upsetting. I think the server was new and inexperienced. Cracker Barrel apparently ran out of their seasonal Merry Berry tea as well as jelly for their signature biscuits. Then when one of my family members wanted the broccoli cheese casserole we were told yesterday was the last day it was available. This brought dining disappointment to our dining experience. I had a breakfast plate and the bacon was too crispy. The eggs and hash browns were good. I hope they can teach their servers to prepare guests before ordering of items not available so it lessens frustration. First off we love cracker barrel we eat and shop here and other locations all the time, but tonight was the worst experience we have ever had got there around 7:40 told 20 min wait, cool we will shop there are 3 of us in our party. We get seated around 7:55/8:00 waitress takes our order comes back with drinks and appetizer. Wait 15 or so mins no drink refills, wave down another waitress to find ours, she comes refills drinks, 8:30 still no food, waitress comes out tells is still a order in front of ours. We notice the large table that came in 15 mins after us gets there food also breakfast. Ask our waitress why, she like not sure want me to get manager, husband said yes manager Candice come out about 5 mins later, blames it on our waitress she put order in after the other table, and that they brought out our tator tots before the meal. What no I am sorry we are short staffed, ect.. I mean i can understand if they were really busy. Finally our food comes out our grand daughters mash potates were cold, her chicken strips where over cooked almost burned, pancakes were un edible couldn't even cut them with a knife, hubby order over easy eggs got scrambled, we decided not to make issue out of it because as long as we waited to get our order no telling how long it would take to get another plate made and after speaking with the rude manager the first time felt no need to bring it to her attention . First off I've been to cracker barrels in Las Vegas and Washington state and all over but I have to say the one thing I've noticed of late is the service don't know if they are short staffing their restaurants but everything including the drinks and food takes forever I spent 20 min in my seat before getting a drink order,I got no refills duiring my visite waitress was busy im guessing,now on to the food the biscuits were on point and the salad was decent and that's all I have to say,I ordered chicken fried chicken and took one bite and returned the plate and declined to order anything else as I didn't want to wait another 40 min for more food suffice to say I will not be returning to a cracker barrel to eat for quite a while if ever. read more

Where to start, it took an hour and 45 min to bring our food and then the food was wrong, then a server near by dropped a plate and the shatter flew across our table and hit my sons headset and cracked it. To be honest, I'm not impressed with my last visit here. I read the reviews before coming & thought there's no way it could have gotten THAT bad since the last time I ate here & man they were right. The food is so bland, even adding pepper and hot sauce to the meal didn't do very much. We also ordered the country fried steak which was decent but still not very much flavor. First, I gotta say, I have had terrible experiences with Cracker Barrel in the past that I vowed not to eat there again. Since it was a very hot day and we had walked for hours at the outlet shops and we were starving, we decided to give Cracker Barrel another chance. Plus there really much of an option. Anyhow, I am so glad we did! Although we waited for 20 minutes to be seated, it was actually worth the wait. We were a table of 8. 3 of us ordered the southern fried chicken plate, 1 chicken fried chicken, 1 maple bacon cheeseburger, 1 steak and grits, 1chicken and dumplings, and 1 fried catfish plate. I have to say, everyone in my party was very pleased and satisfied with what they ordered. My fried chicken plate was very flavorful and really hit the spot. My favorite part of the dish was the green beans. Everyone finished their plates, we only had 1 to go box to take home. This Cracker Barrel location changed my mind about their food. Oh and did I mention how great the service was? The waiter was very attentive and was always refilling our drinks. He made sure we had everything we needed and made it a point to continually check on us. I'm gonna say it.....I will be sure to return to this location AND will give the other Cracker Barrel locations another chance. If you decided to go, try the southern fried chicken. We visited Cracker Barrel Old Country Store in San Marcos at the start of the return portion of our road trip. We had to wait a bit, but this allowed us the opportunity to walk around the store and admire the knick knacks available for purchase. Our waiter was very kind and attentive to our needs. His service more than made up for the time it took to get our food. We dined on: - Old Timer's Breakfast (shareable if you have young kids) - Uncle Herschel's Favorite (get the hashbrown casserole) - Momma's pancake breakfast (also shareable) - Biscuits N' Gravy with Bacon - Mini confetti pancakes The food was prepared perfectly and got small plates to share larger dishes with the kids. As you walk in this place has so many arts and crafts to contend with but if you want to wait on the shopping and grab a bite to eat just walk to the back left part of the store and you end up In the restaurant section. It wasn't the best but the mere fact that it was different was alright with me. We go to the Buda location all the time. We just so happen to be in San Marcos and placed a reserved time online. We got here and waited over an hour. We got told multiple times that we were next in line. Watched 2 other parties of the same number go in front of us. Talked to the hostess and she said "I have no control over that" and waited another 15-20mins before getting our table. The service is very slow. Better off going to Buda location. Our experience here at Cracker Barrel we found the food was very mediocre. Kinda bland like missing something. Service was ok but did experience a long wait getting to our table. Seems like this place needs a revamp, for someone to come in maybe corporate and retrain the kitchen staff and Check the food procedures as things didnt seem fresh. Every time I leave here I'm never disappointed but today was definitely some of the best service I've ever had here! Our server Jo was absolutely amazing. Very attentive, apologetic, and made us feel very comfortable and welcoming ensuring everything was up to par for my family and I. Very sweet guy, I would come back just for him!
