Our family was relieved to see a Cracker Barrel after a long day of shopping. The service was friendly as usual and the food was tasty.

I don't know what has happened to Cracker Barrel. 10 years ago it was one of the best places to go get a nice big breakfast. The last two times I've been to this Location The food was terrible. Waitress was nice, over booked with tables but nice. I ordered scrambled eggs a very simple dish and it came out and it was rubbery. We went in on a Sunday morning about 9:00. The restaurant was not very busy. Service by Christina was great but the food was not up to par. One of our party ordered eggs scrambled with cheese. Sbe was given fried eggs. When we complained the waitress took her plate. Itca.e bad d they had put her fried eggs on the grill and scrambled them. They were overcooked and the cheese was not melted. My meal was brought out cold. Eggs and pancakes were so cold that the butter would not melt and they were chewy. My wife ordered eggs in a hole. They just put a slice of bread with a hole i it over a fried egg. Overall a very disappointing experience. read more

This restaurant is filthy, I was a dishwasher for 6 months here and I would watch cooks drop food on the greasy floor and serve then to customers anyway. There is mold in the dishwashing machine, so your so called clean plates are actually covered in mold. Was the most filthy place I have ever worked. Plus we always had a heads up when the health inspector would come by so they had make us make the place "look" clean but the mold would be back in 2 days, way to cheat the system that is meant to protect your customers cracker barrel. read more

Uncle Hershel's favorite; got it with a medium cooked hamburger patty, don't get it any more cooked, it's done just enough to satisfy all meat lovers. 2 eggs to order, over medium for me. Perfect biscuits. Grits, just add butter and salt. And hash brown casserole; which is better than their apples anyday... unless you want the apples like a dessert. Tons of choices on the menu. I have patronized CB for the last 7 yearss, since I moved to Texas... they were my "go to" until the last year. The prices have been raised several times, menus parred down any the proportions have been drastically reduced. I refused to continue to pay $8-$12 for a morsel of food. They bring you complimentary morsels hoping to fill you up on it while cutting the real food from the plate... doesn't matter what you order. Notice they don't specify the size of portions so you have nothing to reference. They will offer to bring you something else butt that creates a crappy experience all around. Start paying attention and post if you agree..... I've always enjoyed eating at Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores. Until a few weeks ago at this location. We went after work as a change of pace from the usual Carinos/Red Lobster/Texas Roadhouse/Palmer's fare. What a mistake we made! The first thing that struck me as a bad sign was the men's restroom. Now, if you're a highway traveler, you know you can count on Cracker Barrel for having clean restrooms. Not in San Marcos. Upon entry, there were numerous towels haphazardly left on the floor in front of the sink vanity. OK, I thought, kids at play. On to the disabled stall. There I found dried vomit on the floor in front of the commode and feces on the toilet seat. A great way to warm up the old appetite and make you feel good about the hygiene of the kitchen and wait staff. I told one of the Cracker Barrel retail store clerks about it when I left the restroom, and she acted as if she could have cared less. On to the dinner. Amazingly, I was still in the mood for a steak, and there was rib-eye on the menu. I should have been suspicious at $10.99 especially after seeing the restroom, but I giddily ordered it, broccoli cheese rice casserole, fries, and baked apples. This meal couldn't have turned out more a disaster if they had planned it that way. Our waiter dropped off the plates and made a hasty retreat to the kitchen for twenty minutes before returning. My steak, which I had ordered medium-well, was slightly north of rare, bleeding profusely into the already limp fries, making them all the more unappetizing. I tried to troop through the steak, but at halfway, my sanity returned and I knew I was never meant to eat steak tar-tare. The broccoli dish was bland at best with stems of broccoli and totally devoid of any hint of cheese. The apples weren't cored properly, so there was all that nasty napkin work to do to get through them. My dining companion was really looking forward to her roast beef tips, which she later said were indeed good and tasty. But her sides were a real disappointment and she got most of her food to go once she saw the horror that was my plate of food. At this point, re-enters our intrepid young waiter to inquire as to how everything was. I'm usually not a jerk about meal mistakes, but this was so egregious that I took a page from my dad's playbook and asked him if he had a tourniquet for the steak. He didn't comprehend at first until I pointed out the bloody mess on my plate. Then the light bulb came on and he realized what a mistake he'd made by not checking on us sooner. Now comes the fun part. He went to see one of his managers, and told him what happened. Apparently, when the manager was told that about half the steak was eaten, he dismissed me as being a freeloader in search of a meal. The waiter came back and told me what had happened, at which point I insisted that my issue was not one of a free meal, but to point out their quality control problem. So our young waiter disappears once again into the barrel to ponder the imponderable. He returns a few minutes later, and apologizes profusely. He then reveals that he had rechecked the order and yes, indeed, my steak was supposed to be medium-well and that was not a medium-well steak. He also tells me that this had happened to another rib-eye just a little while before mine. Why, oh why, knowing he had a short bus cook, did he not do the responsible thing and insist I check the steak when he first brought it to me? Then he told me he'd spoken to another manager and that manager had agreed to comp the half-eaten meal to me. Again, I told him this was not necessary, but the manager needed to fix the problem in the kitchen so other customers could enjoy their meals as expected. Realizing his errors, he apologized again, and pointed out that he did indeed "get it", even going so far as to say "A steak is a man's meal!". OK, I could have done without the drama, but he was at least contrite. I left a generous tip to let him know that I didn't blame him entirely for the kitchen's mistake, although, in retrospect now, I realize I shouldn't have rewarded his inattention. And I bought some confectioneries on the way out of the store to demonstrate good will. Strangely, one of the good ol' boy managers behind the counter still glared at me during the purchase like I was trying to pull a fast one. No point in going here again. I still need to let Cracker Barrel corporate know what happened. My family and I depend on these locations as rest stops when they travel, and my father is disabled, so they need to get this bad egg corrected or out of the chain for good. I've eaten many times at this Cracker Barrel and it's always been really good, but today I was very disappointed. I always get the meatloaf and normally I take some of it home, but today the first portion was a small wedge that looked like the end piece that was dark and had no bottom to it. I sent it back and was brought a piece so thin that it just fell apart. I noticed they raised the price and made the slice less then half of what it use to be. The vegetable sides were the same and it was the first time I ate everything to be full. If they give you half the portion you should be charged half the price. read more

More char than I've ever received before appeared on my seasonal menu pepper bacon sandwich, but what the hey--I've never smoked and in the words of Tom Berenger, "Everybody gotta die sometime, Red." While this place is never my first choice, I end up here at friends' requests and this was the first time I ever questioned whether I'd eat something I ordered. Usually I just feel sorry for the overcooked vegetables. I don't know if the Trisha W on my receipt was the sweet, attentive waitress or the cashier. Eggs in a basket, sunny side up, is my near-always choice and has never disappointed. Service, even on the busiest days, is attentive 90% or more of the time. Some of the old-fashioned candies in the shop area are worth picking up every visit. The red raspberry gel car fresheners are heavenly--I went noseblind to it after a week but got compliments long after. If you are the tourist shopping on a traditional holiday, SEND SOMEONE AHEAD TO RESERVE A TABLE because the wait reflects the fact half the universe decided to visit the mall at the same time you did. Both times were because we all felt hungry after our shopping trip at San Marcos Outlet Mall & Outback was too full with a long line waiting for the tables. This place looks very nice with a small gift shop in front. Be prepared to wait quite a while for your food. The price is about right & the food quality is average. When our food arrived, they were only warm instead of hot as it was supposed to be. Service was as slow as the time it took for your food to be ready. Nobody did not even bother to collect the cards from us to take care of the payment. We ended up having to leave cash on the table & walk out after 20 mins of trying to ask someone to get the cards swiped. We personally don't like their signature Fried Steak dish. It's like a big breaded & deep-fry piece of burger patty. If you want to go for something with beef, I would suggest to try the actual sirloin or ribeye steak to be on the safe side. My friend ordered the ribeye & it looked juicy with a right portion. I would not recommend this place to anyone because of our experience but we might have just ordered the wrong item. read more

They all, everyone I have ever been to are consistent in what they do. It is like going to your Grandmother's house on a Sunday for lunch. Good ole Southern comfort food. Of course I had to have the meatloaf. I get a side of their brown gravy to put on it. I have to have gravy with meatloaf. They are always obliging and never charge for it. I had the pinto beans. It comes with several chunks of ham. They are very tasty. Staying true to my Southern and Texan roots I got the fried okra too. The okra was less than perfect this time, my only complaint, it was a bit soggy. They were very very busy and I believe that is not unusual for this location. We were ahead of the lunch rush by 30 minutes and still had to wait 10 minutes for a table. Damn that was some damn good southern food! I've never had biscuits and gravy or hash brown casserole. Everything was so damn good, I had to keep myself from eating too fast. I had the sunrise sampler. The meats had a nice smokey flavor that wasn't too overwhelming and you can tell they were fresh! The grits were creamy and mild they tasted like they were made by someone who cared. The biscuits and gravy "good lord" that is dangerously yummy. Ok now the hash brown casssrole.... whaaaaaaaat?!!!! Ok I'm hooked. When a restaurant chain does something right I have to give them props. I had a very bad experience at a Pizza Hut the previous night so this more than made up for it! Great food, Southern atmosphere, and service! We came in the late evening, around 9pm. It was still fairly busy, but out server was very attentive and came several times despite being sent away because we couldn't figure out what to try. Our group settled on a variety to have a bit of everything: catfish, country fried steak, meat loaf, roast beef, and a bunch of different sides. They have for a limited time sweet potatoes fries. It took a bit of time for the food to come out, but everything was perfect as expected. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because the food is good, but it isn't the best southern food available. It's a great option for those seeking quality, basic food at reasonable prices. There's also a lot of variety you won't see at other places, plus breakfast is served all day. Meals include cornbread and biscuits. Ask for jam if you want them on your biscuits. Great experience. Incredible attention to detail in my specific order, Nicholas(my waiter) always kept a smile and went above and beyond to accommodate our dining. I was super impressed by the small number of frequent simple gratitude he shared throughout our meal. Following the food, our checkout attendant Sheri was the most polite happy employee to be ringing in checks. We laughed and made me paying my bill a fun happy experience. If you've never been to a Cracker Barrel, it's probably accurate to describe it something like an IHOP, but with more lunch and dinner options! The cool part about Cracker Barrel, and probably what makes it stand out from the other breakfast food places is that it's a restaurant AND a retail shop. The restaurant can get crowded in the morning during peak breakfast hours, so alot of people pass some of the time by browsing the store... not a bad option. This particular Cracker Barrel store is located in the Tanger Outlets. If google maps tells you to take the highway, then turn around and get on the access road if you are coming from the San Marcos outlets, don't listen to it. You can simply drive across to the Tanger outlets and then park at the Cracker Barrel. The staff was super friendly, as they usually are at the other Cracker Barrel locations I've been to. The restaurant was clean and service was prompt. As far as the food goes, it was pretty dang good. If you didn't know, breakfast is served all day at Cracker Barrel, and if you're going for dinner or lunch I believe they do not give you the breakfast menu by default, however you can always order breakfast. That's exactly what we did. My wife got the Momma's something off of the breakfast menu which had 2 sausage patties, 3 pancakes, and two eggs. I felt like not having a stomach ache, so I went with the oven fried chicken breast with broccoli and mixed vegetables which were good. I think that the oven fried chicken breast was absolutely delicious. The sausage and eggs were standard, but the pancakes were delicious!! They were actual pancakes versus the pressed pancakes that you get at most other pancake places. Overall, while the food was good, and the price was amazing, it's still at the end of the day, a Cracker Barrel, so it's hard to give it 5 stars because it's what I expect. Attempted to eat breakfest on 12-11-22. We were seated promptly and given menus. After that no one came to our table. They were not real busy and there appeared to be plenty of wait staff. Numerous wait people looked at us but didn't approach. After sitting for 15 minutes and playing that golf tee game, we left. I told the guy at the concierge he could have our table back because we were leaving. He offered no apology. This is clearly a management issue where no one knew who's table it was, and also no other wait person stepped in. Won't go back. read more

The flavor, the temp, the textures, the presentation on the plates and the service were just awful. I mean to go I'm a great detail regardinthis experience would be very irritating to me to even have to type it out. I've never been to this restaurant before and I had heard great things about it. My girl tore her sandals on the way to the restaurant so when we walked in we asked if they had sandals for sale. The gentleman was nice and pointed us in the right direction. My girl was trying on different ones and some guy came over and just started looking at her like making sure she wasn't stealing or something. That was the first impression. That made me feel very uncomfortable . Trust me sir I don't need to steal your crappy over priced Sandals. The service was was not the best girl never came to refill our drinks. Oh, Cracker Barrel. 2 things that made this a 2 star visit. First 4, yes 4 people walking around the store without masks on. 2 of which were being helped by employees! I do NOT recommend ordering online. I ordered two dinners, picked up at the counter, and went home without checking the order. When I got home, the baked potato had sour cream on it when I wanted butter only. There was no gravy on the meatloaf. And there was no gravy on the chicken fried steak. I called and was put on hold. Staying on the call, I packed up the items and headed back to the restaurant. The manager picked up the call as I was pulling into the parking lot, 14 minutes later. I told her I would talk to her when I got in. I explained my frustration from driving all the way home only to open our incomplete meals. She never apologized but only pointed out the things I did wrong..."You didn't select plain baked potato." (I didn't want a plain one. I wanted one with butter) "You didn't ASK for gravy for the meatloaf. (I was not given that option on the online menu, to which she responded "you need to add it to the comments") So, apparently it was all my fault. The customer was not right? If you are at the Outlet malls and need nourishment, this place does the job. Be prepared for at least a 20 minute wait. Check out the super kitschy gift shop with loads of unusual old fashioned candies and sodas galore. The service we had is good. They kept my ice tea refilled. They also brought us piping hot biscuits and cornbread twice-like we needed it the first time. Standouts included the lemon pepper trout, macaroni and cheese and the hash brown casserole. This is my third visit to this place on my way back to Austin from San Antonio. Lots of choices for. Breakfast and lot of country styles dishes I can wait to try their biscuits and gravy their pancakes are the so god plus their maple syrup warm taste better. At this pace you can do some shopping after your meal since the store have lots of variety of gifts or items for you house Like furniture or kitchen supplies and even some food so you can prepare at home this place I great for the whole family kids are very happy to shop around after eating lots of toys and candy haha which kids don't like candy well I think this is more then enough to said there server are great but kitchen staff my some mistakes on the orders sometimes I heard the server blaming the manager was the expo and that was the reason why orders get mix .
