He already had a banh mi picked out (grilled ribeye, no cilantro and I convinced him to get the garlic mayo on the side instead of leaving it off all together). I went for the Colossal Shrimp Bowl (half rice, half salad). We placed our order at the kiosk and took a number to our table. They seemed to be doing a brisk takeout business, and including us there were about 6 tables with small parties dining in. I received my excellent Vietnamese iced coffee while we waited...which took awhile. The staffer apologized when he brought the banh mi out, but my bowl took another 10-15 minutes, so I encouraged Spouse to eat. Spotty service aside, the food was good. Lots of meat on the sandwich and lots of shrimp in my bowl. The half rice/salad was a good call, and everything tasted and looked fresh. Definitely a solid casual option in Ballard. read more

I have been to CrackleMi a few times now, I have tried the Banh Mi and the bowls...The Bussin Bowl is great, I like to get it with the Jalapeño Aioli! The portions are fairly massive for the price, definitely enough to save some for later or the next day. The service is good, it is a walk up bar when you order pick-up, so all that really matters there is wait times which have always been reasonable in my experience. I can't remember if they do table service if you dine in, but all the staff have always been kind and helpful. The vibe is pretty standard, nothing crazy, but quiet and clean, not much more you need. As a bonus, it is never very busy inside so you can always find a place to sit down, they also have complimentary tea that is nice to sip while you wait for your food. read more

This review is for the food only. I did not dine in, but had the food delivered to my hotel. I was flying in to Seattle at a late hour and wanted to have food ready waiting for me. More importantly, I had some credits to burn with a delivery app so I decided to order through CrackleMi after some research to see what my options for Vietnamese food were on UberEats. While prices seemed a bit inflated (I realize the need to do this because of the cut Uber takes) and I was a bit hesitant by the sense that this place caters to non-Vietnamese as their main customer base (the pun in the name, replacing a traditional rice dish with "half rice, half greens", etc...) I ultimately decided that this place would give me the most bang for my buck. I had $35 in Uber credits and UberEats was offering me a 40% off up to $15 deal. I wanted to stay within my credits to not have to pay out-of-pocket and CrackleMi had a buy-one-get-one-free offering on their bánh mì ($12 for a bánh mì sandwich?!?!). All in all, I was able to get two bánh mì sandwiches, a bún thịt nướng (grill pork and vermicelli plate), and a Vietnamese iced coffee, all for under $30 by stacking various offers. The noodles were for my mom. She enjoyed it, which gets a gold star from me. The food came packaged in a eco-friendly plate/bowl with lid. The portions were decent and the flavors authentic to what I would expect from a Vietnamese restaurant. So my concern about authenticity was misplaced. The bánh mì sandwiches are expensive, though I could justify it because of the BOGO deal. However, it's worth noting that these sandwiches are "American" portion sizes, meaning they are much bigger loaves than what a traditional bánh mì is. That was a pleasant surprise. As for flavor, the bánh mì was not as true to Vietnamese flavors to my mind, but not in a bad way. I think it was off to me because they seem to use better, healthier cuts of meat. The sandwich was still great though, even without the grease I'm used to. It's hard to update Vietnamese food for the masses without watering it down somewhat. I'm impressed that CrackleMi seems to have found a way to sell traditional Vietnamese food in a way that would appeal to those living a healthy lifestyle. Well done. read more

(Or waiting for you to take out). The food choices are plentiful and the four dishes we had (sandwiches, rice/vermicelli bowls) were all delicious. I particularly liked their fresh sliced jalapeños. Crisp and mild/med hot (to me). I had the 3-egg Bahn Mi sandwich, which seemed sparse on the veggies, but then, it was budget-priced at sub $8. Most meals are in the $12-14 range. (+\-). It was an odd experience from the start you walk in there is a full bar to right. A bunch of sit down tables with water on them. There is a sign stating to order from the Kiosks. I have no problem I do that every day at work. I place my order easy enough. I look over towards the kitchen reading signs do no touch bagged order directed towards delivery drivers. I'm looking around there is no where to sit except at the dine in area. I'm basically standing in the middle of the restaurant waiting for my order or at least some acknowledgement. There is also other guys leaning against the wall between the kiosks. I decided to do the same.... The worker is bagging up about 4 deliveries for pickup. When he is finally done, he speaks to the guy who has been waiting prior to my arrive. The tells him his name and he turn around a grab the guy's order sitting there the time. The worker asks me my name and informs me my order is in works. My name is called he hands me the order in a bag. I asked about the can of coke I order he tells me it in the bag with the Banh Mi sandwich. It would have been nice to know that, so I don't have to ask. Now the banh mi the carrots did not pickle and no daikon. There was little no jalapeno or Mayo. It was boring and flavorless. Maybe it was a bad day or maybe they need to work a little harder to focus on the food and customer service? I might come back. read more

The food tasted good, but this place is filthy. From the cobwebs and dust floating down to the table from the lamps shades above, to the window ledges next to the table full of old food bits, to the grimy floor, the overflowing bus trays with food on the floor in front of them, and the large tea dispenser so covered with with brown tea streaks it was hard to see the metal dispenser to the path to the kitchen with food and grease on the floor. Ugh, spend some money on a deep clean. No wonder they keep it so dark in there.. They were so flavorful and it comes out so fast! The Vietnamese coffee here is also excellent and gave me quite the buzz afterward. I've been back here for their banh mis (not pictured here) and they're the perfect portion for a lunch for one along with chips. So full of flavor and I swear they have extra hot jalapeños because they make my scalp sweat profusely when I eat them! So so so good. We ordered The Bussin Bowl, the Spicy Lemongrass tofu bowl and the Crispy Eggrolls. The Bussin Bowl had great flavors and the pork belly and grilled pork were delicious on a bed of salad! Located just off Market St in Ballard, it is the perfect place to go after Sunday Market or before a night out at the bars. They mostly do rice bowls, vermicelli noodle bowls, and sandwiches. They have a great selection of meats & proteins to go with all of them. I got the Spicy Tofu lemongrass vermicelli bowl and my boyfriend got the Cookout bowl (grilled chicken and beef short ribs). Both had a good amount of rice/noodle but also came with a hefty side of veggies for all the health nuts! I loved my bowl because I still felt like I was getting an adequate serving of vegetables in, but also really indulging in the protein portion of the meal. Highly recommend getting the fish sauce side as well as the sesame soy sauce side and dipping in both (though it is traditionally served with just the fish sauce). We'll be adding Crackle Mi to our rotation of good Ballard restaurants. THE MENU HAS A LOT OF GOOD GOING ON. Walking along Ballard searching for a lunch option, this menu stood out as having multiple somethings for everyone. My partner and I each got a bahn mi. The baguette was the star of the show. Soft interior, crisp exterior, and not too much that it overwhelms the ingredients. The mayo and veg were good. My tofu was so smooth and had a sesame element that made it delicious. My one wish is the cilantro would have been better incorporated throughout to liven up the heavier soy taste of the tofu. Half of my sandwich just had a few cilantro stems and the other half was full of leaves which made for an uneven eating experience (such is often a frustration of mine when eating meals with added herbs). My partner was very happy with his pork belly and egg. THE LOVELY ATMOSPHERE YOU'RE LOOKING FOR. You walk in and order for yourself at a kiosk. The interior was modern with a lot of plants and lovely design touches. We sat by a giant open window and watched as dogs walked by a few feet away from us. The servers were nice and seemed to keep busy with a steady stream of to go orders. There were also siracha and garlic chili options for spicing up your meal. Vietnamese is one of my favorite cuisines, so I was excited to see Crackle Mi pop up with great reviews recently. I made it in this week and got The Crackle Mi sandwich and the fresh shrimp spring rolls. The banh mi was on point. The bread is key and theirs is good. Great flavors going on inside too, with a nice umami sauce, pork belly, tender grilled pork, a fried egg, fresh cucumber and jalapeño...yum. The sandwich was also massive. I found it pretty comical that they didn't cut this thing in half. The shrimp rolls missed the mark a bit. You can see that two of the pieces were about half lettuce only, with nothing else inside after the first 2 bites. Kind of a bummer. The few bites that actually had all the fillings together were pretty good, but the sauce was a little odd...not quite as peanutty as usual. I ordered on a tablet and had literally 3 words spoken to me by a human while I was there, which I wasn't particularly enchanted by. I also wish they had a sandwich that was just grilled pork without the pork belly and egg, which I'm sure is easily doable, but wasn't possible in the iPad interface. The soup reminded me of something that my Grandma used to make; wish they used white pepper, instead of the black pepper. It was delicious and would recommend to order with the rice/noodle dishes. The grilled short rib banh mi is good but wished the meat wasn't so thinly sliced. Highly recommend adding the fried egg in the sandwich, it was amazing. The pickled radish is good but better with a bit more vinegar and options of adding jalapeno. The bussin bowl was delicious with the pork belly that just melts in your mouth without feeling overwhelming. The pork chop was over grilled to me with it being hard to the bite. A new local vietnamese restaurant just opened in downtown ballard area. I ordered dark soy rice bowl and the spare ribs soup. The flavors are so good and the spare ribs soup taste like something that my mom used to make when I was a kid so it is very comforting. We met the owner of the restaurant and he was very nice. He is also the owner of sizzle and crunch and he told us why he name the restaurant Crackle Mi. Totally recommend this restaurant, support local business! read more

They did not pack our jalapeño aioli's for bowls we ordered and only got two forks and one spoon for two soups and two bowls. Additionally this time with the pickled veggies in bowl- there was a piece of rotten carrot. There was also pieces of just pork chop fat.
