I crave the Grilled Ribeye Vermicelli bowl here on a monthly basis. The space is spacious and clean, and for me, the location can't be beat.

A nice, fast-casual spot in the ballard area - just across from the library. My dad enjoys this place so we took him here for a late father's day dinner. We ordered a few of the cookout bowls, a spicy lemongrass bowl, and two (pork, chicken) orders of spring rolls. The dark soy marinated egg that comes with the cookout bowl is one of my favorite parts of the dish. You can get rice or salad (or 1/2 of each) in the cookout bowl - I usually do all salad/veggies. Service has always been good here - my food has always been delivered within 5-10 minutes. The process is slightly different in that you order on these tablets against the wall, grab a number, then sit back down. What's confusing is that the huge menu posted on the wall doesn't have the right prices. The prices listed on the tablets are $1-2 higher and I find the inconsistency somewhat odd. Ambiance is nice and welcoming. There is plenty of space and there's even a bar on the south end. A great spot that we will continue to frequent. read more

We wanted to grab something quick and light for dinner before catching a movie and came across this spot! After walking in, you place your order through a kiosk and they bring your food out. Service was quick and staff was very friendly. I went with my vegan friend and we ordered tofu fresh rolls and dark soy sauce tofu vermicelli bowl to share. Fresh rolls were great and light but it was just tofu + noodles wrapped in a rice paper and felt like it was lacking something. Excited to go back to try the shrimp fresh rolls! The vermicelli bowl was huge and packed with ingredients! Tofu was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and had so much flavor. It came with pickled carrots as well and added so much to the whole bowl. It came with some sauce and we added jalapeño aoli on the side and that was very good as well. I've read news articles that this is the must the happening place in Ballard. The restaurant is clean, well decored, in a central Ballard location. If I'd lived in the area, it'll be such a fun place to grab a bite after the library or come walk over from nearby apartments/condos. Easy to locate and love the advance ordering. There was a slight confusion and wait for my order even though the restaurant was super light. The sandwich and meat was delicious. If you've been to Ballard, then you know that there are a lot of options. Crackle Mi should also be on that list. This no fuss, easy to order with a good amount of seating is a fantastic option if your looking for something delicious and easy. When you walk in, along the wall you can see the menu displayed brightly. They have tablets you can order from easily, but if you want to talk to a person you can do so too. Once you place your order, take a number and find a place to sit. Staff will bring your food out for you. Busing your own table after you finish seems to be a very Seattle thing to do, so please remember to do so. The food comes out quick enough, so here is what we ordered: The Cracken Vermicelli : boneless short rib, shrimp skewer, eggroll $16.98 Soy Braised Pork Belly Bowl on Rice $14.88 Vietnamese Iced Coffee $6.98 Thai Tea $4.98 With ordering from the kiosk, its easy enough to customize your bowl or sub. Don't like cilantro or green onions? Get that taken out. Peanut allergy? They got that covered. Plus, instead of just automatically giving you the traditional fish sauce dip, they give other options (not for banh mi). The bowls were large. Great for sharing (if that is your thing). The protein was marinated well and really came out thanks to the grilling. In the Cracken bowl, the most surprising thing I really enjoyed was the shrimp skewer. The shrimp were plump and perfectly cooked! Normally I find that they're usually over cooked and not fresh. 10/10 would order again! The Pork Belly bowl was also really good! Soft and tender pork belly that just melts when you bite into it. Also a 10/10! The Vietnamese coffee was strong just the way I like it, but I found that the Thai Tea was a bit too sweet. We didn't get to try the Banh mi but they are priced form $6.49 - $11.98. A great and quick meal for work or to a picnic. Over all a great meal from Crackle Mi. This is a tough review to write. We heard so many good things about Crackle Mi, and the Yelp reviews on this restaurant look outstanding. But man, the food was somewhat of a letdown. We ordered: Tofu Vermicelli Crackin' Vermicelli Spring rolls So the spring rolls. We gotta talk about the spring rolls. The order comes with three spring rolls. But no joke, these were the smallest spring rolls I've ever had at a restaurant. It's basically 1.5 spring rolls, with 3 halves served to you. From my photo, you can see it's cut in half. And we had the shrimp spring rolls, and one of the rolls only had 1 piece of shrimp in it. Very disappointing. The vermicelli, I'll cover the good, the bad, and the ugly. The good: flavors were good, and the vermicelli itself was really nice. Lather it with fish sauce, and wow, pretty solid vermicelli. The proteins were also not bad. The bad: the portion itself was not that much, and the dish was actually a lot of large chunks of lettuce. The portions just seemed a bit off. The ugly: I feel slightly deceived. The bowl is split half and half, with one half being vermicelli, and the other being a lot of lettuce. I was expecting layers, with the bottom layer being vermicelli and covered with the proteins and greens. But no, only half of the bowl was vermicelli, and very little amount at that. All in all, we left with a bit of a shrug. Not bad, but not great. There's worse Vietnamese places out there, but there is, guarantee 100%, MUCH better places, both quality and quantity, for Vietnamese food to get your fix. read more

Have been here four times in the past two months since discovering it. The lemongrass beef is so tender, flavorful and plentiful along with the incredibly fresh salad. I've tried over both broken rice and vermicelli. Fav sauce is the darker soy based sauce which has the best rich, smokey flavor. Next time I'm getting the banh mi with, you guessed it, lemongrass beef....but I'll be adding the egg. Sides I've tried are the fresh shrimp rolls, grilled shrimp skewers and fried pork egg rolls. None disappointed! Shrimp skewers had a charred flavor I can't forget. So good. The vietnamese iced coffee was deliciously creamy and not overly sweet. I appreciate the canned hard ciders in fun flavors like lychee and yuzu . Service is so fast. Orders are self-placed on kiosks and then brought to your table, within 5 minutes. Ambience is comfortable and modern with gold lightening and a lot of natural accents of wood and metal, while music is loud enough to allow for private conversations. It's okay, I'll know better next time. Now brb while I dig into this banh mi first. Okay so I'm back, I have to say the banh mi was just a-ok. Nothing special. At first it looked really slim and long (probably not much inside) but it was somewhat filling however wish the tofu to bread ratio was a bit more. I had more bread than I had tofu to eat with it. Maybe it's different with other meats. Who knows. Also, the jalapenos are always a surprise, you never know if you'll get some mild ones or ones that literally make you want to rip out your tongue (yea mine today was the latter). I have never tasted so much heat that I almost cried but of course that's not Crackle Mi's fault, just thought I'd share with you all anyways in case you can't handle even a little heat- pass on the jalapenos. Normally I would say Cracklemi is a solid 4/5 as it is fast to order and there is no major complaints. As Vietnamese person, I always want to support Viet establishments but the experience I had here yesterday was not very pleasant as it usually is. The food we got had come out really fast. The people that were working got our order wrong. It was just a mess up of vermicelli instead of rice but when I brought it up to them which I feel really bad doing, they said that they do not have it on the menu when we ordered the rice with the shrimp and not the noodles. (I also double checked the tablet). What made it really bad though was that they assumed I was not Vietnamese and talked about us behind our backs questioning why we would order this. We were the only ones in the store too so it's not like I was trying to hear them talk about it. It made us feel bad even though we just wanted to try the item. Spring rolls had pork and shrimp. Thai tea is standard with regular cow milk. Dishes were big so two dishes was big enough to feed three of us. We were served promptly. CrackleaMi is a beautiful restaurant with tall ceilings, clean decor and lively plants. Although I only got my bahnmi to fo, I would have enjoyed to stay. I ordered at the iPad and the food came to me pretty quickly. I loved the bread. It has such a great crunch to it. I have been to Vietnam and have had amazing bahn mi so of course I compare a little more. This bahn mi is heavier on the creamy sauce ce and the meat could use a little more seasoning.
