My mom and I came here for dinner (we've been coming here since it opened). Mani who has been her and her friend's waitperson for many occasions helped us out this evening. He asked about my stepfather who recently passed and went out of his way to be sympathetic towards my mother (this was truly going above and beyond). I've always loved the painting of James Dean that sits above the wine room and the layout of the whole restaurant has always been so well thought out. I enjoyed my usual filet and a crab cake which is hands down the best in DFW. We came back for happy hour and sat at the bar which opens at 4pm. The bartenders are amazing and very friendly. We had the tequila shrimp and split the burger. The burger was pretty good and you can taste the flame from the grill. Great prices for happy hour! read more

Had dinner at Kirby's in Southlake and honestly, it was everything I wanted out of a proper steakhouse experience. The vibe is upscale but still comfortable--not stuffy or over-the-top. You can relax and enjoy. Steak was spot on--cooked exactly to temp, flavorful, and tender. You can tell they take pride in the quality of the meat. Sides were solid too, especially the mashed potatoes and the creamed spinach. Service? Top-notch. Our server was attentive without hovering and really knew the menu. Wine list was deep, but the staff helped narrow it down without making it feel like a quiz. It's not cheap, but you're getting what you pay for. 48 years ago we ate at the original Kirby's on Greenville on our wedding night. My wife grew up going there. We've recently moved back to DFW and decided to have a nice Christmas dinner with our kids and their spouses at the Southlake location. The restaurant is very nice, but not stuffy. Our server was superb. (I feel terrible that I can't remember her name. Cute, personable blonde woman.) We had the lobster appetizer plus shrimp cocktail and calamari. Our dinner was outstanding.....I believe we all had the filet. The sides were amazing - especially the creamed spinach. There was so much food and wine (love the Austin Hope), we couldn't even try any dessert. BTW, their sides are large; big enough for two or three people. My wife said the Thousand Island salad dressing was as good as she remembered! We had a wonderful evening and will be coming back in the future. read more

Sometimes you come and the kitchen walked out because they aren't being paid properly. Another bad thing about this place is the clientele that come. Prejudice and snobby, but again this is Southlake so what do you expect. The managers are super fake. Pretend to be your friend just so you can keep coming back. Minute they walk away their smile disappears and they dont care about you. Traditional steakhouse decor. You cannot see outside so they dont want you seeing what your steak looks in real lighting. Our last Kirby's visit was a 5-Star experience form our steaks meticulously cooked to order and my apple martini served with gin rather than vodka and "shaken, not stirred." The service was impeccable as was the atmosphere and ambiance. And for that, we return on a regular basis. However, to our dismay our regular waiter (Mr. Jones) went out due to an illness and passed earlier in November. With the fantastic cuisine we enjoyed, Mr. Jones' service as a consummate professional was a stellar 5-Star, no less. And, my wife and I will surely miss his first-rate service, knowledge and friendliness as a Kirby ambassador and we always looked forward to Mr. Jones serving and fulfilling our requests. In addition to the best steak in Texas we always eagerly anticipated his aforementioned service and conversations. Thank you Kirby's and a heartfelt thank you for Mr. Jones. Overall had a great experience here! Started with the Lobster Cargot appetizer and half dozen oysters. The Lobster was on point with the flavor, but just a hair over cooked. The oysters were excellent just wish they'd been bigger. For entrees my husband ordered the Black Pepper Filet (medium rare) and he absolutely loved it. I ordered the Filet with the Black Truffle Butter. While it was delicious, no one can eat that much butter so I'd rather them cut the price in half and give half the quantity. We ordered Mac & Cheese as a side (which was so good, not too saucy and not too dry!) and the Bacon Brussel Sprouts, which basically tasted like nothing but onions. For dessert they brought out a complimentary chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream which was excellent!! I went here prior to a show at Lucas Oil Live at 5:45. Reservation needed. I started off with the Beefsteak caprese. Each large tomatoe slice had a piece of mozerella. Too much for one person. I followed it with the sea bass that came with a lobster risotto. The two combined had such a great flavor. I paired the meal with a pinot noir. For dessert I had the cookie in a skillet. The scoop of ice cream was almost as big as a pint! Service was attentive and i was done with plenty of time. The theater was less than a 5 min walk away. On a recent trip to the DFW area, I met a good friend for dinner, drinks, and some laughs. We had called to get a reservation, but decided to eat at the bar since my friend was already 1 martini into a fun evening. Service at the bar was top notch with the right blend of attention, engagement, and conversation. Bringing some big appetites, we ordered a couple of appetizers to sample. Caesar salad and the potato crusted calamari. For dinner, we ordered the 10 oz filet and the Cowboy Cut ribeye coming in at 24 oz. We also ordered the jalapeño bacon Mac n cheese, steamed broccoli, and the blistered Brussels with smoked bacon and onion. With all that food, there was no room for dessert. Two things: (1) great service and food, and (2) MAJOR sticker shock from the off-menu items (brought up by the server). Most people know they'll spend more in a great steakhouse, and Kirby's is certainly a nice venue. We will certainly go again. The food was fantastic, and we enjoyed leftovers for two days after. The ambiance is nice with high ceilings and subdued lighting, and it was en enjoyable experience, overall. Having said this, I've never spent more--ever--on a two-person dinner. See the receipt below. I bring this up because despite the obviously higher price tag of a steakhouse of Kirby's caliber, when the server brought up the off-menu items (but not the prices), my assumption was that it would be the same ballpark price as the on-menu items. Not so! This is partly my own unfamiliarity with market prices of wagyu beef, but it's worth noting that this costs $25/ounce, here, and the minimum is 5 ounces. We ordered 8 ounces, because the price was never mentioned. I also ordered a "Tomahawk Chop" ribeye, also mentioned by the server, which turned out to be $99. Again, I almost never mention prices in my restaurant reviews because I expect that most patrons know what they're paying, as the menu lists prices clearly. Just be aware of the practice of not quoting off-menu prices here, and expect to pay a pretty penny for great food, and you'll be fine. The drinks, appetizers, sides, and desserts were all fantastic and reasonably priced. We'll be back and better informed on future visits. read more

Kirby's is our happy hour go to during the week (Tuesday-Thursday). Great martinis and not served in a small glass as many places do for a happy hour cocktail. My favorite meal is the lamb pops and broccoli ... so yummy. The staff at Kirby's are outstanding ... they treat new guest as if they are regulars and regulars like they are family. Other delicious options are the shrimp ... just about anyway you like them but our favorite is the shrimp cocktail. They have a nice wine selection and it's not overwhelming with too many options. The vibe is welcoming, cool mood setting and plenty of space in the bar area with plenty of additional seating in high-tops and booths. To date I haven't had a bad meal at Kirby's and if there is a mistake with the order the staff is quick to correct it ... can't wait to visit again this coming week. read more

I did the four course taste meal it was 68 bucks the braised short beef ribs. It was not good. It was fair. They came on a bed of white noodles with vegetables mixed. Felt like I was having a beef stroganoff.
