Admitting that I like any big chain store is a pretty big step for me. It's akin to saying that my foot started tapping along to a John Mayer song (although that would never happen -- really). This review pertains only to the furniture, and, as my boyfriend and I have descended down the many rungs of couch-shopping hell (leather, buttons, slipcovered linen, microfiber -- egads!), C & B didn't make me want to smother myself with a chartreuse cushion like most of the other places. Also, the salespeople weren't hollow-eyed commission zombies. It's hard to talk about what you like and take your time lying on sofas when you've got someone shadowing your every movement. I appreciated that they left us mostly alone here, but provided the important details in a friendly manner when we asked for them. read more

This is for their online shipping...which doesn't come close to other stores, which I leaving out Amazon because that's in a league of itself. It's been almost 2 weeks since I placed my order and it still states that it is being prepared for shipment. It didn't take that long to accept payment, which they took within 24 hours. I still do not know if my order will be here in time for the holiday gifts I got my colleagues. I expected 5-7 business days to receive...not 8-11 business days to ship. I was told it would most likely ship yesterday or today but that they would expedite it since I called in. Nothing has changed so I guess that was a lie. And today they are advertising their "last day for free shipping" online. So disappointed. Buyers beware! read more

I love Crate and Barrel, so much so that every time I visit this one I think about getting a part-time job there just so I can spend my whole paycheck in the store. Imagine the discount! Beautiful furniture, classic modern housewares, and a great cooking supply section. Unfortunately, I do not have a second source of income, so each time I just buy some little thing. Today I got a mug with rows and rows of tiny mugs pictured on it. Perfect! Another great thing about this store is no matter what time you go -- this time it was the middle of a busy Saturday afternoon - the store is spotless and there are tons of people available to help you. Crate & Barrel is one of my favorite stops at U Village. Their products are beautiful and great quality and I always find several things I love but keep my purchases to a couple of things in most cases. I gave them 4 stars instead of 5 because the brand name items can usually be found on Amazon for considerably less. I recently ordered a Cuisinart knife set from them and later found it for $65 less on Amazon. I think they would have price matched in the store had I bought it there but since it was an online purchase they couldn't, so I returned them there. The manager was very friendly and understanding, all the staff I've ever interacted with there have been great! read more

LOVE this place... I mean L-O-V-E this place. I want everything in it. For as many associates on the floor (both assisting customers and NOT), I was surprised they weren't greeting people as they passed. After purchasing a set of plates, bowls, etc. years ago on a discontinued sale (elsewhere, in the wide-world of the Intermets) and abhorring them within a week of use due to their heating up to the point of inducing blisters in the microwave and being so very heavy that once filled with dinner (no, we are NOT huge eaters in our house so it wasn't the volume of food on the plate ;) that one risked carpal tunnel syndrome trying to lift one plate, and oh yes by the way they also chipped really easily...you get the picture. The dinnerware set sucked. On to the New Year - a time for new beginnings, and new plates!!! Woo hoo!!! Off to Crate & Barrel I dashed, figuratively speaking. In reality, I hopped on-line and immediately started a chat with a C&B rep, asking which plates were going to be in stock in perpetuity, as I know that we'll break one or two pieces in the coming years. After receiving the response that five of their place settings are always in stock, I chose one and ordered new dishes. Looking at $44 in shipping, I quickly realized that it made much more sense to choose the Pick Up In Store option and signed up for that with the U-Village location. Fast forward to the email I received letting me know that the dished were ready for pickup. I called 15 minutes before heading over to give C&B the heads-up and they let me know the dishes would be ready to go at their will-call in the garage - score! No need to bother even parking and going to the store! We pulled in to the garage, hit the will-call button and bada-bing, bada-boom the dishes arrived all boxed up on a nice little wheelie cart. The C&B rep was helpful and loaded the dishes into our car and off he went, speeding back to the storeroom atop his little wheelie cart. Very smooth, C&B. Great service. read more

Ranging for not being able to find a sales person to help me, a terrible experience trying to use one of their designers, and culminating with them cancelling a delivery at the last minute after I scheduled it three weeks ago. read more

Nice products but this company DOES NOT put the customer first. I've purchased from this store three times in the last year and never again. My time is clearly not important and waiting in excess of 4 months to receive a product is insane. On each occasion, I was required to pay for my purchase in advance of receiving the product. This is okay but the quote for when the products will arrive is FAR from accurate. I ordered a couch and was quoted 3 months for delivery (seems excessive). The store never called to give me updates and when I called I was quoted a date that was 4 + months from my purchase date. When I called the store to get updates I would often not get call backs from the sales associate. Yes, the store makes you speak with the sales associate who originally sold you the product. Just recently I received a call stating an order would be ready and I could pick it up. I did not return the call as the voicemail confirmed the date it would be available. However, before I headed to the warehouse to pick the products up I received an email stating it would be available a week later? I called and I was told that since I didn't call back they did not ship it to the warehouse in time for the quoted date? Why does a customer need to call to confirm they want the item on the date confirmed? I guess C&B customers like to pay for things and wait to receive them. C&B should act in the best interest of their customers and ship it immediately. If you enjoy waiting (forever) I would HIGHLY recommend you frequent this store. Never again for me. C&B lost me as a customer. read more

The yuppie in me wants to give you 4 stars, the hip, urban kid wants to give you three. There are no half stars, so I'm rounding up. I'll admit it, I like Crate and Barrel. If you have the cheese to spend, then why not deck your place out with CandB stuff. I bought a mantle-stocking-hook-hanger-thingy (for xmas), and it is way cooler than the options at Target, and I trust me, I comparison shopped. Yeah, I spent $17 more for the CandB hooky-stocking-hanger-thingy, but I felt like it, ok? It's like the difference between buying a Honda Civic and a Lexus ES. The Honda will get you from point A to point B, but the Lexus will get you laid. read more

We went into this location with some fixed idea in our heads about the couches we were going to buy. We were being helped by Constance... she is the best! She showed us the different options, gave us advice on how to decorate our place/ what colors to use. When we finally narrowed down the selection and we were taking forever to decide which color to get she tactfully left us alone... she uncomplainingly checked the availability of all the gazillion combinations we gave her. We finally left feeling like we had made the right decision but more than that we had an excellent customer service experience. a few weeks later she sent us a hand written note, a practice that as a salesperson is highly appreciated. It's probably not "cool" to admit you like something as cookie cutter as Crate & Barrel, but I have to say that I am a big fan. Maybe I'd never have come here if I hadn't bought a house with my boyfriend and desperately needed to furnish it with furniture that was nicer than the falling-apart-after-a-year stuff I got at IKEA, but in any case, they always had/still have exactly what we're looking for. Yes, their furniture is a bit on the expensive side (altho not as much as Pottery Barn GOOD GOD), but we've been really happy with all of it - from the easy delivery of the bigger items (couches + cabinet), to the pick-up at the loading dock, take home and assemble yourself tables + bookcases. The quality definitely matches the price. Bonus: They have just about every gadget or dish you would ever possibly need for your kitchen, and their pricing on that stuff, home decor, and smaller items is actually pretty reasonable. I've also never been treated like a jerk there - the staff has always been more than helpful, not pushy, and just nice overall. So yeah - 4 stars. I'd give it 5, but I'm not sure I can bring myself to give 5 to a chain store. :) read more

I have a crate and barrel addiction...and I think with good reason. Where else can you get decent and affordable kitchen gear while shopping for furniture that features a decent variety. I have quite a bit of items from here that I wasn't willing to pay more for at Williams & Sonoma or didn't want to buy from IKEA. The only downside when buying textiles is you might have to wait awhile to get it shipped to you. However if you don't mind the wait, you can definitely find some great finds! read more

I love to browse this store. My favorite part is walking around upstairs looking at all of the cute leather chairs! I love to fantasize about what my home would look like with some of their cute rugs and pillows too. But alas I've never really been able to afford to buy anything here. I am a fan of Crate & Barrel (C&B) from way back. When I was just out of college, living in Boston, C&B was my and my friends' go-to place for decent quality, reasonably priced, and oh-so-cool-looking kitchen and house stuff. When I moved to Seattle, where for oh-too-many-years we were C&B-less, I would always make trips to C&B when I was back in Boston or I was visiting another, C&B-full, city. So, I was so happy when C&B finally came to Seattle about ten years ago. I still love going here to browse and to buy. When we got married, we registered here. (And, as I type this, I am sitting on my bed under my wedding gift C&B comforter.) Just they other day, I found corn-on-the-cob plates at the U-Village store. A bit out of season, perhaps. But, I had been looking for these for a few months and everybody else's were too expensive. Or too cheap. C&B's were just right -- both in terms of quality and price. I love C&B's Christmas decorations and will be going back soon to look at what they have to offer in that department this year. (Yes, I know I could go now; but I refuse to Christmas stuff shop before Thanksgiving.) If I have one complaint about C&B, though, it is that check-out there has become this privacy-invading ordeal. You are asked, first by machine, then by a person, to provide your phone number. No, C&B, you don't need this. Then you are asked if you would like a printed copy of your receipt or if you would like to have it e-mailed to you. (Supposedly a way to save a tree, but really just a way to get on their e-mailing list.) I know you can just say no, but I don't like being put in the position of having to say no. I almost docked them a star because of this. But, I have too many happy C&B memories to do that. Now, I gotta go eat dinner off my C&B plates... read more

I rarely walk into a place and think, "I want to spend all of my money here." And then this happens when I walk into C&B: "OOOOOooohhhh, all of the pretty shiny things!" My partner made a comment about my need for a butter bowl and Maslow's hierarchy. I pretended not to understand. Anyway, this store is great. People are always friendly and helpful. They also wrap all of the breakables super well. I also appreciate that they have contemporary everyday items at prices that are affordable. They've got plenty that's expensive, too, but they can woo me aplenty at $3.95. read more

I had to back order my chairs because they said they had some coming on the next truck, which was supposed to arrive in 2-3 days. When I hadn't heard anything 4 days later I gave the store a call and asked whats up. They said it should be on the next truck in a couple days. 3 days later still no call. When I called back again the mentioned that there was some trouble with the truck and I was put on hold. A couple minutes later the associate told me that my chairs were there! Something is a little screwy with their inventory, makes me wonder if they just gave me the chairs that were in the window when I bought them in the first place. Oh, well. In general happy with my purchase, just wish it was a little smoother process. read more

There's the usual big ticket items that I like to look at and touch. But, I know whatever I purchase has to be shipped, hand-carried or put into my suitcase. I've been here a few times while furniture shopping and I admit Crate & Barrel wasn't originally my choice of stores but I was surprised at how many things I found that I liked. A lot of their items are too modern for me but a few of their furniture pieces are laid back enough to fit into the vibe of our house. The staff is really helpful and the store has two floors so there are plenty of displays of furniture or other things you might have in mind. They are located back in U Village pretty far back so it might be best to park in the garage vs. in the 'lot'. read more

Don't buy anything from here, not if you want to ever have it delivered that is. Spent almost $2000 on a set of garden furniture (table, chairs, umbrella etc) six weeks ago on the basis that it would be delivered within two weeks. Just got told they can't deliver the table and chairs until 31st of August, forget the umbrella that wont arrive until October. I live in Seattle, we know what that means re how long the summer lasts. If I had known I would have bought a set from West Elm which was actually cheaper but the ASSURED me that the table and chairs FOR SURE would be delivered within two weeks, the umbrella would appear in August. I am not sure whether they were lying or just incompetent or both (or for that matter which is worse - lying or incompetent? - you pick) At least by the time they do actually deliver it will be real convenient because they can just back the truck up to my garage and unload the table and chairs into as that's where they'll be unti summer comes again, next year. read more

I love this store. Is it crazy expensive? Yes...on the second floor. I've bought many items in here over the years mostly from the first floor. I can't afford these couches and beds up there but I have bought cute small items to add to my more mid-range furniture at home (ha!). I splurged on my super fluffy pillows here and I have no regrets. After all, I sleep on those every night! I also loveeee my cast iron dutch oven by Lodge I bought here. It's now discontinued but it was a Crate & Barrel exclusive and at $40, it was a total steal! Finally,. I love my Camille wine glasses (Scandal shout out!) and the glassware and kitchen sections in general. This is also a great place to buy gifts for the home decor maven, foodie or friend who just enjoys the finer things in life! Their most impressive: everytime I come in and ask for help, they are awesome. I have come in and said "ok I am in a hurry and need a gift under $xx right now. Can you help me?" and off she went! When I was buying my dutch oven, I took forever selecting something. Ok fine: I took two days but they went over every single type of pot and pan with me. When I bought my pillows, I took the longest time deciding between their different ones. I even sent the lady to the stock room to bring something, then sent her back to switch it and they were SO helpful and patient the whole time. Crate and Barrel in u district is great albeit understaffed. I waited for a good 20 minutes to pick up an online order. The one annoying thing was that they don't offer gift wrapping. Which is surprising because they are pretty popular for wedding registries. read more

As most stores move towards a more customer friendly approach and easier returns (like Nordstrom) crate and barrel has made their new policy the exact opposite. No returns without a receipt. Doesn't matter if the item has a tag but if you don't have a receipt you are stuck with the item. All those poor people with wedding gifts from registries and receiving random household items for birthdays and holidays. Now you are stuck with these items or as the store clerk so helpfully shared with me. " You can re gift it." So at least someone else will be stuck with it. Great. I would like to add more to my rant but those words would probably be taken down anyway. read more

I recently moved into a new apartment and was super impressed with the service I received from this Crate and Barrel during the process. We ordered some rugs in November to take advantage of Black Friday savings and they held the delivery for us til we moved in with no problems. By then we'd bought even more stuff which we managed to add to the same delivery with no problems. Then I decided to return some stuff I bought online - I'd accidentally thrown out my packing slip but they tracked down my order and refunded me no problems. Great service. read more

I went in to the University Village location tonight to return two wine glasses that came cracked in a box of 24 that I received as a Christmas gift. I showed a purchase receipt that had the order number and a confirmation of the purchase. The store manager and associate that were "helping" me were both extremely rude, unwelcoming, and refused to believe that the wine glasses came broken, saying that I broke them and was trying to get new ones for free. The store manager refused to exchange the wine glasses and was extremely rude the entire time I was there. I really like the items that Crate and Barrel carry, and was planning to register for my wedding here, but based on the customer service and employees at this store, I will absolutely not be giving them my business. read more

I don't regularly shop at Crate and Barrel, but I received a $200 gift certificate and decided to pick up some holiday decorations. I placed an order online that included picking up items in-store. I arrived at the second floor and asked the associate about my pick up. The woman was quite short with me. She brought a second employee up with our order. My order included a canceled item due to lack of inventory, and I wanted to be sure that the amount I had been charged was adjusted. This prompted a third employee, the store manager, to arrive. His employee told him I was needing help, but before assisting me, he cleaned the credit card machines on the second floor with a white card. Then, when asked again to assist me, he took my order form and disappeared into the office on the first floor. I waited about 15 minutes before I asked another employee to find out what happened to the manager. Finally, the manager arrived from the back, chit-chatting with another employee, and when I approached him regarding my question, he admitted he had forgotten and then went to the back office again. After another five minutes, he came back out and said my refund had been issued. No paperwork was offered in proof of this. Additionally, the manager was very dismissive the whole time in dealing with me. The kicker was that my order was incomplete. When the manager came out from the office the second time, he was carrying another bag that he handed to me. Apparently, he realized that my whole order had not been given to me. At least they realized the mistake then, as opposed to me realizing it when I got home. The condescending employee, the space-case manager and the overall failure of Crate and Barrel to provide any kind of customer service has completely turned me off to the store. You would think a store that has a $1,200 nutcracker would offer better customer service. read more

I love wandering around this store. I dream of owning plates, bowls and mugs that match and having beautiful glass vases filling my living room... I know its never gonna happen but a girl can dream! HOWEVER! The last time i was at this store I was totally burned! I had gotten 6 french onion soup bowls for christmas from my sister... now don't get me wrong they were beautiful and I had asked for french onion bowls but these weren't teh right ones. So i packed them up gift reciept and all and headed off to C&B uvillage to get it sorted out. I parked in the garage behind them and somehow ended up entering by the second floor door. I made a bee line for the first counter I saw... this is how the rest played out..... me: HI! I'd like to exchange these bowls please grumpy couter lady: *long pause looking me up and down* ok. Put them up here I need to make sure they haven't taken any damage. me: um... ok... but before I exchange them.... gcl: put them up here *points to counter* and we'll talk about your exchange in a minute. me: *thinks this is not good* gcl: ok do you want cash or a giftcard? me: well I want to know if you have a specific bowl I'm looking for its this exact bowl but has lions heads on the sides instead of ribbon gcl: oh yes we do carry those. I'll get you a gift card so you can check out at the counter closest to them. me: uh... ok gcl: *hastily returns items to the card* here. me: could you show me where the bowls are please? gcl: downstairs by the front entrance *turns away to deal with heap of returns to put away* me: *walks away shaking head* So i get downstairs and find a very helpful younger woman associate and she looks at me bewildered when i told her the woman upstairs said they carried teh bowls I wanted. The girl akwardly explained to me that they had never carried those bowls but she'd show me what they had. She showed me the bowl I just returned and chili bowls.... grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr... I'm not putting my awesome french onion soup in a freaking chili bowl! I was mad enough I just left gift card in hand. I haven't quite recovered my pissed offedness for them yet so I'll update when I do eventually go back to spend my giftcard. Hopefully it will go better next time. read more

We purchased some furniture from here yesterday - I love the Crate and Barrell style! It's modern but not too modern - they have a good variety as well. We easily found a kitchen table, chairs, coffee table, bed and dresser. The salesperson was also very helpful and nice. I like that the parking garage is right next to the store so it is very easy to get to, unlike some other parts of University Village which are far from the parking garage! read more

I would usually totally avoid espousing the virtues of a chain store, but Crate & Barrel is different. Crate & Barrel makes me feel valued as a customer each and every time I enter the store. Their employees smile, ask the right questions, and attempt to help me even when I don't think I need help (which is normally the case). Then there is the whole matter of their merchandise; the Crate & Barrel buyers have an amazing sense of timeless, classic beauty. I bought a sofa and signed up for a Crate & Barrel credit card with an offer for some savings on my purchase. This turned out to be one of my biggest mistakes of retail shopping ever. I paid off the credit card with the first payment, but the bank that administers Crate & Barrel's credit cards, Comenity Bank, failed to acknowledge my payment, even after repeatedly providing proof of payment. I have spent hours and hours over the last 6 months trying to straighten it out, but the company has made it extremely difficult, and is not even close to being customer-centric. The people in their call center or on email are unable to resolve these types of issues, and they require that all correspondence on the issue occur over letters sent through the mail. On top of failing to resolve the issue, they have had collections agents calling me and my husband demanding further payment. After the letter allowed them to resolve the issue with the payment, they are now trying to claim finance charges that they believe occurred while they tried to figure out their issues. While we love the couch, I will not be shopping at Crate and Barrel again. It isn't worth the hassle of working with their third party finance company. read more

My husband saw me looking at the Marin dishware set so as a surprise one morning I woke to a barricaded front door with five large boxes all filled with every piece of the marin blue 12 plates, 9but only 11 unpacked successfully) 12 cups, 12 bowls,12 pasta bowls, 6 platters , 2 oval casseroles (now only one)and 2 square casserole dishes well over 800$ worth and I drug them into the house as I had to get to work and could only spare the time to open and peak at one box I waited 6 mo to open them to use over the holidays and sadly two of the oval casserole dishes were broken and one plate I'm just sick about it I have no idea if it happened while I was struggling to bring them in or if it happened during packing they were so well packaged it seems odd to have happened by me just dragging them into my hallway. So beware and always open your packages quickly as there is nothing I can do about it now except perhaps to warn others that packages no matter how large should be opened and inspected immediately I can reorder but it's just sickening to have to pay again for items I already paid for and should not have to repurchase when common sense tells me this was the stores fault and not mine. I gave them three stars only because they should have had our order on file they should have called us back after we called to inquire and to be honest they should have just mailed us the broken pieces no questions asked after they looked up my husbands name joe a varady Im sure had my husband kept the receipt they would have honored the problem I just don't get how an order this large isn't kept in the computer when he used a credit card and it was less then a year ago....and we spend so much money.
