The selection of items here is great. They have a lot of variety and everything is well stocked. The only complaint I have- and it's a big one, is their checkout system. Totally inefficient. The staff isn't well trained at prioritizing customers. I was in there to purchase something and went to a counter and the girl that was supposed to check me out was cleaning something up and didn't even acknowledge the fact that I was there. I then went to the back counter and even then, it took a solid 10 minutes for someone to get to the counter and check me out. I wasn't the only one at the counter either. I love crate and barrel, but customers should definitely be the priority. read more

This review specifically addresses post-sale & -pickup customer service, which is horrid. My wife bought a coffee table; I picked it up. It came in two boxes: one held the tabletop; the other had the base; with the base was a package of hardware. (Thanks to the era of IKEA and Scandinavian Designs! No one sells tables that are already assembled.) On the box, on the receipt, on the website, are the words: "Assembly instructions included." Except they aren't. This *should* be easy. Hardware includes eight (8) screws; sixteen (16) washers; eight (8) plastic hole caps; eight (8) suction-type pieces. The table base has eight (8) holes in the frame; the tabletop has eight (8) corresponding drilled guide holes on its underside. Problem is, the provided screws are waaaaaaaaay too big for the guide holes. Will they split the tabletop? Where do the washers go? On the underside of the frame? Between the frame & the tabletop? Both? What about these plastic suction thingies? They don't fit anywhere... I call the "800" number printed on the hardware package, sit on hold for a half-hour just so a snotty CSR can tell me, "There are no instructions because the tabletop just sits on the frame." I point out all the details (hardware, holes, etc) that prove otherwise, and snotty CSR puts me back on hold for another half-hour. I call the local store to see if they have a display model, and the clerk there tells me that they just put the tabletop on the frame; they don't know how to assemble it, either. I call Crate and Barrel Customer Service, and I get the same runaround: "Are you sure you're supposed to screw the tabletop to the base?" Well, I dunno. Is there another purpose for all the hardware? Is there a reason the website, receipt & box all say, "Assembly instructions included?" Back on hold for another half-hour. ***Two hours***, and I finally receive a grainy picture ("Unfortunately," I say to the CSR, "the Chinese aren't as good at this as the Danish.") that shows that there aren't too many washers, and the plastic suction thingies are for use with the glass-topped table (which we didn't buy). Purchased twelve San Miguel glasses, 5 18 ounce glasses and 7 12 ounce glasses. The staff, including an assistant manager said that the warehouse had erred and we would have to take it up with corporate AND said that we might well have switched merchandise out, implying we were trying to get money back for something we had not purchased at Crate and Barrel, even though the clerk had unwrapped the entire box. read more

Being a gift-registry virgin, I was told time and again that I had to register at Crate & Barrel. After the experience, I'm still a little iffy. Dont get me wrong, I'll be glad when the presents start rolling in but here's the rundown. The ACT of registering at Crate & Barrel was fantastic. They have these cool guns that they give you and you go around punching in item numbers and fantasy shopping to your little heart's desire. They also include a book of "must-haves" that was useful for a newbie who has always shopped at thrift stores and grab bins for housewares, even though I resented some of the all-knowing snobbery that tried to make my decisions for me. I think I'll survive without a complete 12-place set of bone white china, thank you. Aside from that, the shopping part was fun. And, I suppose I am glad that I registered for staple house items at this store because it's a little better quality than Target...excuse me...Tar-jhay Boutique...so I dont have to worry about all my things falling apart in about 6 months. So why am I being so stingy with stars? I just didn't like the atmosphere in this store. The staff and other customers apparently thought they were in the Neiman Marcus home department the way they looked down their noses at my fiance and I. Just because we are young, doesn't make us trash. Also, any panhandler after a day of 'hard work' can afford most of the kitchenwares so I dont really understand the hoighty-toighty attitudes from the ritzier patrons. Also, anything beyond the kitchen and dining room was overpriced beyond belief. Basically, a trip upstairs to the bedroom and living room decor was a complete waste of time. $500 for a flimsy frame filled with generic art AND all my neighbors' parents will have the same exact thing?! HOORAY! Although the registry-shooter-contraption was good fun, I was glad to leave that store and I never plan to set foot inside again. Boy, do I LOVE my Crate & Barrell. Upper-scale, quality items- at some quite reasonable prices....definitely a winner in my book. The atmosphere of the store is immaculately bright, beautiful, and extremely well organized. I also always find the staff to be exceptionally friendly and accommodating. I have found a handful of great kitchen/dinnerware items for our house, at an exceptionally pocket friendly price. I also enjoy the parking garage being just next door. May take a while to find a space on a busy day, however, its still quite convenient. I just love what this Barrel contains, and I always greatly anticipate my next visit : ) read more

Just when you thought you couldn't find a better place to register or get the perfect house warming gift, you are simultaneously met by an eager associate. And did I mention the store is gorgeous, inspirational, and that it'll make you lust for kitchenware you never knew existed? I had some extenuating circumstances cross my path with my wedding gifts, and they were more that willing to help me out. I NEVER fill out those customer service cards near the checkout. I'm very surprised that there are not worse reviews for the customer service on the second floor. My husband and I came here already knowing the exact pieces of furniture that we wanted. I'm not sure if the salespeople were just tired or what, but there were three salespeople standing around and not speaking to any customers at all. At first I thought it was personal since my husband and I don't usually get gussied up to go shopping, but these people did not approach one single customer. We had such a bad experience that we just sat on the couch and chair we wanted in order to make sure they were comfortable and went back home to purchase these items on the website. We didn't want to chance giving one of these "sales" people a large commission that was not deserved. I'll be going to the Crate and Barrel in the city from now on. They've always been helpful regardless of the way I dress (down to showing us samples of swatches and going into detail about easy cleanup materials). Just went there today to buy some wine glasses. Gillian was the employee who helped me and she was excellent. She took the time to wrap each glass carefully and package them nicely into a box. She also took the initiative to print a second gift receipt when she realized the glasses would need to be placed in two boxes to fit. This is for the female employee who saw my 2 year old fall on the floor where they had some work going on and completely ignored her crying out loud and decided to look the other way as nothing happened. Not even showed some courtesy to ask is she was doing ok. She looked at the child then turned the other way and started clearing the counter. Really decent prices on glassware, some furniture can be pricey but it's quality stuff so you know it'll last you forever if properly taken care of. It feels like an elegant IKEA. This is a great location for tackling numerous shopping goals in one area. If there's a sale on an item, be wise to snag it while you can. Huge adjacent parking structure with direct loading dock for your car. Have been shopping at this location back when I was growing up in the tri-valley, so has been interesting seeing its changes. Having shopped at all Bay Area C&B locations, this is the most extensive with knowledgeable staff and in an easy to access location. I don't get the pricing issues from some of the younger Yelpers, C&B is known for it's values and stock up buys. There's an outlet center in Berkeley if you're on a tighter budget; otherwise, head over to IKEA for temporary, transitional life items. read more

The driver was running a little late but the warehouse called to notify the new estimated arrival time. Product looks great and we are happy with how the initial issue was resolved. read more

Crate & Barrel is a wonderful place to register for gifts gifts and more gifts! Ahhhh the joy of registering is not having to pay for wonderful things that you so want :o) It gives me great pleasure! And if you should happen to still have items on your list after the event is over - no worries - you get 10% off everything on your I WANT THIS list. We've generally had pretty good customer service here, although there have been a couple of occassions where we were looking to buy a couch and had no assistance whatsoever. The salespeople just kept staring at us and continued the conversation they were having with each other. Ugh! Hate that to the max! Anyhoo, we found a lovely behind the couch table and a super duper comfy couch that zoomed past our modest budget - but I think it'll be worth it. Can't wait for the couch to arrive in November - I'm super impatient when it comes to the waiting game. I like getting some grown up things, but I do not love the cost of grown up items. My fiance and I visited this Crate & Barrel location for a private wedding registry event and had such a wonderful experience. The staff was super helpful and went above and beyond to help and give tips. We haven't really shopped here before because we thought prices were out of our range, but they are actually more affordable than you'd think, especially with sale prices. I was pleasantly surprised with how helpful everyone was but they didn't hover over you and pressure you, which was really nice. It was just a fun experience where we got to enjoy a few refreshments and shop - they even did demonstrations with Le Creuset and Nespresso so we got to enjoy some crepes and coffee, too! I definitely recommend these events to any engaged couples and look forward to shopping more here in the future. read more

Crate & Barrel is a store that largely centers around how you can improve your living space, whether you live in an apartment or a house. The items sold here include beds, sofas, furniture, small appliances, and kitchenware. I am impressed with the selection and overall layout of the store. Very classy and sophisticated. :P Unfortunately, it mostly has classy and sophisticated prices too (i.e. if you're on a budget, don't bother shopping here). I agree, their prices should be a little lower, especially if they want to stay in business during tough economic times. read more

I finally made a decision and purchased grown up living room furniture. The staff was very patient with me, answering question after question after question. Not once did they frown or make me feel as if I was imposing on their time. They even went so far to check their system to determine whether or not the pieces I selected were slated to be discontinued. The most impressive part of their service was the delivery. At the store I selected a date for the delivery. The salesperson told me that I would be contacted a couple of days before and given a time. Sure enough, a couple of days before the delivery someone from Crate & Barrel called and gave me a delivery window of 7 am to 9 am. My internal monologue said, "dude you should at least get your delivery before 3pm." At 7 am on the date of delivery my door buzzer rang. I was shocked and amazed, a store actually carried through on ALL of their promises at the time of sale. Kudos for not making me wait from 9 am to 6pm like the cable company, PacBell, PG&E, or any other service company that is doing me a favor by servicing my account! read more

We LOVE this Crate&Barrel. I went in yesterday to pick up an order that I had sent to the store and accidentally left a purchase from another store there. Roland had the courtesy to find my phone number through their system and called me twice (my phone was on silent) to let me know. Another associate also called me in case Roland hadn't already. I called back today and they had put my eyeliner (yes that small but pricey purchase) in the safe! How amazing. They are ALL so helpful and happy. I love this place. read more

Slightly obsessed with Crate & Barrel's products so I may be a little biased Went in to make a pretty large order; new bedroom set and couch and I was a little disappointed to be walking around clearly looking interested in multiple pieces to not get the attention and assistance of the two women working at the counter. Whatever they were talking about was better than making a sale I guess, but I went up to one of them and asked for help after some time and they called down the furniture specialist, Craig. Craig was so fun to work with! He was super helpful and funny. He was very detailed with us and made sure we knew everything that we needed to know. read more

One of my favorite stores for home decor and goods. Displays are always set up in a way the customer can visibly see the name and price of the products. I'm usually not approached however by employees when I browse or have browsed at this location currently. Might be the way I was dressed/looked too young to buy something from the store?? I love you Crate & Barrel. There I said it. I love this place. Every time I walk into this place I feel my inner domestic goddess cry out. It makes me want to become more domestic, and with impending nuptials, it's a good thing. My latest visit here was the day after Christmas (note: crazy time, only for the brave). My fiance and I had received a gift card from my parents for Christmas plus we wanted to get another candle and candle stand my sister got us for Christmas. Parking was not a huge problem (esp given the day we were there) given that this place is right near so many including the parking garage behind it. We got tons of great stuff on sale or clearance price which was awesome! The poor staff (I used to work in retail so I know how crazy people can be) were very nice and helpful while running around restocking and making the store look as nice as it could. We noticed a couple registering for their wedding there and proceeding to go around the store and tag items they wanted. Props for braving the shoppers getting their deals and the crowds, but man, not the best day to do that. On regular days this place is very nice to shop in. We ordered an ottoman from here and the worker that helped us out was great. He showed us all the sample fabrics we wanted and gave us ones to take home so we could see the fabric against everything else in our family room. We ended up ordering it on-line but we couldn't have done it without coming into the store. Defiantly less expensive than Pottery Barn or William & Sonoma (both places I love) and the quality is consistent here. read more

This store is one of the very few flagship Crate and Barrel locations in the bay area. We found this place stocked and brimming with great deals. This time of year is the sample sale. Happens twice a year apparently. We found a number of good items in the store to purchase. Service was pretty good. Our sales guy spent a good amount of time with us explaining how the furniture sales worked. I was really happy with the overall experience at this store. read more

I love Crate and Barrel as a store. They have a HUGE variety of things that you can use around the home and the quality of the items are good enough to make it worth the trip here. The staff are great in customer service and will help you find what you need. The inventory is always well organized and the store overall is pretty spacious even with all the holiday shoppers. The only reason for the average rating is because of their poor efficiency when it came to checkout. I swear, I was literally on my last nerve waiting in line to be checked out. It seemed like it would never move. I waited in line for 25 minutes when there were only 4 people in front of me at the start of my wait. read more

I love Crate and Barrel. Half of my kitchen must come from them. And my bedding and holiday decorations and throw pillows and.... I'll stop. Crate and Barrel stores have great design. They are clean, they are bright, they are open and airy. I always feel a bit of relief when I walk into one because even if they are really busy, you can still move around fairly well without feeling like you're being smothered by other shoppers. Their staff is usually pleasant but not overbearing. You can find someone, and when you do they will be friendly and helpful but they aren't going to track you down and pester you. Crate and Barrel stuff is great. I don't think I've ever regretted a single purchase (and there have been a lot). Their stuff holds up and it's not even that expensive so it's extremely good bang for your buck. If you like their style, you really can't lose with them. This particular Crate and Barrel is great. It's two story, it's clean and well stocked. The staff is good. I really can't think of anything negative to say. *Oh dear me, I had to edit this. I typed *loose* instead of *lose*. This Crate & Barrel isn't NEARLY as cool as the one in San Francisco, but it tries. Plus it's actually open when I go there... I love C&B because their stuff is bright & cute & they have a little stand full of really cute ornaments that I have no reason to buy. A Dangerous Place to Visit with Credit Cards I really like Crate and Barrell and this store, Unfortunately, I usually walk out with two huge shopping bags of things I didn't want, and certainly didn't know I needed before walking around the store. It's a great alternative to Sur La Table or Williams Sonoma for many things (however, not at all competitive for cookware). A great place for stemware, gadgets, trays, plates, cutlery. If you are a serious cook I'd direct you instead to Sur La Table or Willams Sonoma. But if you are looking for whisks, trivets, cooking spoons, bowls and the like this is great. Nice staff, not especially attentive to making sure you don't make a mistake. I walked out of here with four bowls, which the clerk wrapped by hand to find a huge chip out of one (requiring my returning it with no apology and bear in mind you have to pay for parking in downtown Walnut Creek besides the stress of the traffic) and also an enameled stock pot which had a significant chip in the enamel. So, check each item carefully. Not an especially can do attitude, either. I was looking for trays, asked where they were located, was directed to a small, disappointing array, and then found considerably more (nicer, and ironically more expensive) a stone's throw away. read more

This is a pretty friendly Crate and Barrel. I often find a lot of team members at stores who do everything in their power to avoid customer contact. But not here! Team members are friendly, engaging, and are pretty helpful. I've been here many times for registries or small gifts for friends and family and I have always enjoyed my experience. I like this place. We do a lot of cooking and some entertaining, and C&B has useful items for the home (kitchen, buffet, bar, etc.), ranging anywhere from "surprisingly reasonable" to "holyshitballs expensive." We're always somewhere in between. read more

Ah what can I say, I'm in love with C&B. It feels so homey. My husband and I are shopping for home furniture and we went to C&B yesterday to try out some couches. The sales people were all VERY helpful and NOT overly pushy I love that. They gave us the catalog, some fabric swatches and some printed diagrams with dimensions, options, etc. They also told us about a sale they had going on where anything you ordered over $250 got a %15 discount. Good enough for us! We will definitely be purchasing our furniture from this C&B location. read more
