So we were looking for a place to have a quick brunch where we didn't have to stand outside on a line and this is the area we were in. Reviews were pretty good so I thought why not give it a try! I'd always wanted to try a tapas place and this seemed like a good place to start. Walked in to a mostly empty restaurant but it was mid Sunday afternoon so the "brunch crowd" may have already cleared out. Our waitress - (or owner? manager?) Well her name was Stanya (?) and she was the absolutely sweetest! Service was awesome from start to finish. We started off with sparkling water and then I had a half carafe of white sangria while my husband had the 1/2 carafe of red sangria. Cute way of serving, they bring the 1/2 bottles of wine to the table and add them to fruit in those cute serving pitchers and stir at the table. Nice touch! We started with the calamari which was perfect. Next we had the gnocchi with with braised short rib, also good. We then had a few other things - Mexican chicken (good), shaved corn (sooo good), truffle fries which were good and plentiful and then we had the empanadas - they were just okay. We also had the flatbread pizza and I wasn't crazy about it - too many flavors that didn't mesh but they took it back without question and we ordered something else. What stood out was the friendly, welcoming customer service and the cozy ambiance. The restaurant is quaint, nicely decorated and absolutely inviting. I definitely plan to return. Oh and how could I forget our dessert?! That cotton candy tree, well it was a zeppole tree with cotton candy - and it was so incredibly cute. I felt like a kid in a candy store ordering it, eating it, and of course taking the obligatory pictures of it! When we were leaving it was starting to fill up with customers - a large group of women and a few couples, etc. so I'm sure it can get busy so reservations might be a good idea. Great spot! Great first meal at Cravings! Cravings is a tapas restaurant with an expansive menu located in downtown Ridgewood with convenient parking near the train station (parking spots are ParkMobile-enabled). Our server offered to take all orders at once or let us space out our orders throughout the meal; we opted for the latter. We started with the spreads trio, featuring hummus, a charred eggplant dip, and a gorgonzola/ricotta/truffle spread. The hummus was decent and the charred eggplant dip was appropriately named and easily dip-able. The gorgonzola/ricotta/truffle spread was rich, packed with truffle flavor, and had a thicker consistency than the other 2 spreads. The spreads trio was served with lightly toasted Naan that proved a suitable and tasty vehicle for all three varieties. We then moved onto the barbecue pulled pork arepa, which was served with 4 dollops of sour cream in the 4 corners of the dish. A layer of pulled pork was served atop a corn meal cake and topped with guacamole. As someone who doesn't enjoy sour cream, I appreciated the positioning of the sour cream; sour cream fans and skeptics can both enjoy the dish to their preference. The pulled pork and guacamole combination was flavorful and the corn meal cake provided additional texture. The tuna tartar followed, and we found a solid portion of cubed, small pieces of tuna topped with scallions and tossed in a sesame vinaigrette. Pickled, thinly sliced cucumbers were sprinkled in beneath the tuna. Spicy aioli was dotted around the sides of the plate and 2 kettle cooked chips were thrown in for additional texture. The flavors complimented the tuna well and the aioli and (what I think was) white truffle oil drizzled around the plate gave an optional, extra dimension. Charred octopus is a personal favorite so it was one of the easier menu choices of the night. It was served with delicious, seasoned, and lightly-crisped fingerling potatoes. The octopus had a good char on it, and ranged from perfectly cooked to pieces that were on the slightly chewier side. I didn't opt for the chimichurri very often and it was a bit thinner in consistency than other versions that I've had. Overall, I found it to be a middling charred octopus iteration. Our last savory dish of the night was the gnocchi, which was drizzled with white truffle oil, topped with braised short rib, and served with peas in a cauliflower crema. The gnocchi were light, the short rib was a good accompaniment, and the occasional pea added some sweetness. The cauliflower crema functioned well as a sauce and tied everything together. This was my favorite dish of the night and the one I'm most likely to order when we go again. We somehow still had room for dessert and on looking at the dessert menu, jumped at the chance to try the zeppoles. A mound of cotton candy was the first thing I saw when the plate arrived, and it took me a moment to notice 5 zeppoles and a smattering of strawberries speared on decorative tree branches. I couldn't remember the last time I had cotton candy, yet I enjoyed the wispy, sugary treat, especially the pieces to which some of the zeppoles' cinnamon-sugar coating adhered. I applied the chocolate spread sparingly; I thought it was decent. Service: Served showed the perfect level of attentiveness. We went at 4:45 PM on a Saturday so while it wasn't busy at seating, the restaurant was filled by the time we finished (around 6:45). The GM comped the spreads trio (my girlfriend is a regular), much to our appreciation. We brought a bottle of wine so I unfortunately did not take note of whether or not they offered alcohol. We will definitely be back to try some of the menu items we didn't get to sample the first round! I would recommend Cravings to anyone who enjoys small plates and trying a variety of flavorful dishes looking to dine in the Ridgewood area. read more

And it was, except no on bothered to knock on door or ring the bell, and yes i was paying attention waiting! I'm only 2 rooms away, i would have heard. I immediately felt the order was cold. Opened the bag to see everything spilled over and a total mess. Missing 2 desert and sides. For the record my order status is still not updated.sorry, I cant even comment on how the food tasted. Came here for my friends birthday and it was very nice and cute. I really like how the portions are small and you get to try a little bit of everything. My favorite thing by far was the Spinach and Queso Fresco Empanadas. It was absolutely delicious. The truffle fries are also really good and a lot comes in one order. I must say that the corn was surprisingly delicious. It had a spicy tanginess and I thought is was one of the best things. The place is a little pricey like the arugula salad was very small and definitely not worth the amount it cost. If you like tapas, this is a pretty good experience. If you bring your own dessert there is a charge as well so you should be careful with that! Their desserts looked really cool. I do not know if I will be back here just because I prefer to have a whole meal rather than tapas. But this place offers a variety of foods that are both rich and flavorful. read more

The food here is really tasteful and delicious! The plates are decently small so we ordered about 5 dishes between the two of us. The steak with creamy spinach is absolutely delicious! We also brought our own wine and they made it into a pitcher of sangria. Such a great spot for a light meal (or heavy if you overdo the desserts like we did). Came here when they first open, everything was really good. Well seasoned tasty little small plates.Then the second visit was disappointing, food was on the salty side, dishes came out that are lukewarm in temperatures. Decline in quality might be the fact that they opened another sister restaurant Finca in town. That divided the owners attention. Yesterday we went and gave it another try, ordered four dishes and we were underwhelmed by it. The same issues on all the dishes. Mushrooms was way too salty, we didn't finish it even in such small portion. Braised grass fed short rib was on the dry side. Grill octopus texture didn't taste fresh. I really love this place. I rarely give 5 stars to restaurants having only been there once but honestly this place deserves it. I went to Cravings on a double date. We brought very good Vineyard wine (YES BYOB!) and I was pleasantly surprised at how very good the food was to go with it! I love the diversity of the menu options. I was also impressed with the serving sizes which for a Tapas place is something to call out. The proteins, the vegetables and the fried dishes were all made delicately and deliciously. The fried empanadas were very well executed (not greasy messes some places serve). My favorites included their chili garlic shrimp, tuna tartar, skirt steak, short rib quesadilla, veal meatballs. Believe it or not we had even more than that! Everything was very tasty, uniquly flavored and yet seamlessly worked together. Our server was a delight. Informed us of dishes we asked about and was attentive to the table. Even letting us know how much time we had left with our late resvervation before the kitchen switched to the late night menu (you'd be surprised not everyone goes out of your way to properly inform you of this type of information). I love the attention to detail. The ambience was fantastic for a weekend, date night out. You weren't on display, you were cozy, and you could enjoy yourself. I can't wait to go back. I like this place because it's unique in its tapas creations. Every dish comes out with elegance and style. I ordered quite a few plates and the bill was reasonable (lower than I expected). They do have their own liquor license so they can serve wine from their bar, or you can bring your own. Great decor and atmosphere inside, or you can dine outside. Two part review. First part is via my father who hates every new restaurant opened since 1976. He's not big on trying new things or new cooking styles. He loved Cravings last night. Better than a brick and mortar review, this says more about the place than anything. He even wants to go back later in the week. I have food ADD. I lose interest very quickly and want to move on to something different; different taste, different texture, different whatever. For me and my palate, tapas is the perfect answer. It's also a hell of a lot easier than asking your dining compatriots, "can I have a bite of that?" The meatballs, lobster sandwich, mussels and fresh mozzarella (thanks to my friend Nick I pronounce it, mootserelle) were all delicious. Dessert empanadas stuffed with apples or Nutella were a modern and delicious twist on the traditional Spanish fare. They also made one hell of a sangria using BYO wine since they have no liquor license. Prices are reasonable. All in all, Cravings is a solid choice, especially if, like me, you crave variety in your meal. I'm anxious to try their sister restaurant La Finca which I hope is identical in flavor and variety simply in a different location. One of the problems with restaurants in Ridgewood is that they rarely last. Plagued with sky high rents, crushing competition and crappy parking, remaining profitable is a major issue. OMG worst place ever The positive reviews have to be fake and paid for because this place is infested with rats and roaches BEWARE of your feet when you sit down!!! Definitely one of the best Tapas around the area. Small cute place. Price is reasonable. They have some local wine but besides that its BYOB. Liquor store is just a few stores away. They will make sangria for you and its actually really gooood! Service = excellent! Our server Desiree is one of a kind. We will ask for her when we return. I was back in town for 48-hours so I rolled deep into Cravings Tapas Bistro with my friends and family (party of 9). The restaurant is not huge but they were accommodating, especially seeming I kept adding on people. We started off with a group of 5. They food was very good. I shared paella, salad, and gnocchi with my mom. All were very tasty but I did enjoy the gnocchi quite a bit. They let us bring our own wine. To be fair we didn't realize they had an alcohol menu. Don't get overwhelmed by the all the choices, it's a Tapas restaurant, which means the portions are small so you can try a bunch! Going here with a party of 7 means I've pretty much tried about everything on the menu. The Paella (see photo) might be petite, but they do a good job of seafood to meat to rice proportion. Another good Sea option is the muscles with chorizo. The truffle fries get more delicious at the bottom of the bowl and can be ordered as a side or come with the Black Angus Skirt Steak. Ricotta Gnocchi is another favorite, with it's creamy goodness and touch of lamb. I also enjoyed the flavor of their Philly cheesesteak, Traditional and Lamb & feta Empanadas. For dessert, I had the Zeppole Tree, which is visually attractive and perfect if you have a sweet tooth. I mean, what other restaurant have you seen cotton candy on the menu?? My sister and I came to this establishment for the first time and it did not disappoint. We were seated and given the menu by our server(Desiree). We ordered the Italian ricotta with truffle oil on naan bread, the short rib quesadilla and the paella valenciana. Everything was full of flavor and filling. Cravings is a tapas restaurant that's byob. It's small-ish but in a good way. It's dark and intimate. Definitely good for dates. They get pretty packed on weekends around dinner time so definitely make a reservation. So, because it's a tapas place, I'd recommend getting 2 to 3 dishes per person. I love coming here with a group because you get to try a bunch of stuff from their menu. I like some of the dishes more than others but not because of a lack of flavor or effort on Cravings part. Simply because I prefer some dishes over others. Everything you get here is good. They put a lot of effort into those little plates with the flavor and the presentation. My favorites are the burratta, the pulled pork and the crab cakes. The only caveat to coming here are the prices. It's not cheap. The tapas cost about the same as a regular meal from any other restaurant. And remember I said you need about 2 to 3 tapas per person? You'll spend about $40-$50 per person here. The food and atmosphere are definitely worth it. Not to mention the service is really spot on. The staff is knowledgeable and very attentive to the customers. Also, it is BYOB so you don't have to factor drinks into the cost which is a huge plus. All in all, the food, staff and atmosphere at Cravings are excellent. The prices, not so much. Food: had the shrimp ceviche- amazing. Empanadas (all). We're great, but the braised short rib was my favorite. Mussels with chorizo is a favorite go to! I'm typically not a huge fan of any tapas places. The thought of paying that much money for small dishes doesn't pique my interest as much as full dish courses. With that being said, I feel my review may be *slightly* on the biased side. I came here with two girlfriends on a Friday night, reservations were made (HIGHLY recommended) for 8pm about two nights in advanced. Additionally, the restaurant called the morning of to confirm the reservation. We get to the restaurant and were told our reservations were only for two people not three. Being this is my first time at this place, not a good first impression. We stood there for a good 5 mins waiting for them to figure out the situation. Yes, there were PLENTY of tables available and they DID have us down for a reservation, so I'm not sure why it was so difficult to sit us at a three person able. My friend spoke to the lady who called to confirm, which seemed useless because overhearing a conversation she was having, she was a new employee. Anyway, we get seated at the table all the way in the back by the kitchen, which we weren't really happy about, but nonetheless, we got seated. The ambiance is nice. Exposed brick inside with high top tables/regular tables. The tables were a bit close to the others so conversation privacy is out the door if you're looking for something private. The table behind us was talking so loud, I felt like we were could've joined in on the conversation. Overall, I liked the appearance of the place. The good thing about sitting by the kitchen is you're able to see the inside of the kitchen when food is being brought out and you can see them cleaning behind the bar area, etc. On to the food...between the three of us, we ordered six tapas dishes: veal meatballs, spinach & queso empanadas, pulled pork tacos, stuffed grilled avocado, an octopus dish with small roasted peppers/potatoes, and short rib quesadillas. The food was extremely impressive and VERY filling. The flavors of the food was absolutely delicious. Personally, the veal meatballs tasted a little bit more on the salty side, but the softness of the meatballs and the sauce it was in was delicious. I have to say that my favorite dish was the stuffed grilled avocado. I honestly couldn't tell you what the avocado was stuffed with. If I remember correctly, I believe it was cold squid. After an extremely filling dinner, we ordered what I believe is called the Zeppole tree which is strawberries and zeppole with a side of melted chocolate and cotton candy on top. Absolutely delicious. The staff was friendly and accommodating. At the end of the night, our waiter did end up apologizing for the mistake with our reservation and figured out what happened. We didn't really care anymore by the end since they DID seat us and provided great service. I MIGHT come back here on a night I feel like spending the money, but again, I *personally* don't care too much for tapas restaurants so I gave this restaurant four stars for the staff's efficiency and the food. read more

We shared the Spread Trio with Naan bread and three dips, green olive tapenade, roasted eggplant and ricotta/Gorgonzola. All three dippings were excellent and fresh. The "hongos" were yummy-tater tots with garlic and cojito cheese. It was late in the evening so we had a light meal followed by dessert which was excellent; the cappuccino was superb. This is a lovely restaurant that has a NYC bistro vibe. Beautiful décor. fast and busy wait-staff, a knowledgeable hostess, tight seating and intimate lighting. The food was divine. Small, shareable plates brought to you when they are ready (in any order). So let's get to it..... Grilled Octopus - Mouth-watering goodness. Bursting with flavor and the light char added a depth that was wonderful. I have never had grilled octopus but I will order in when I see it and it will always be compared to Cravings' version. Roasted Corn - Very good sweet corn with a hint of spice. Gnocchi - I didn't care for it, however, everyone recommended it. I felt it to be a bit pasty, lacking in flavor and the meat has a gamey taste. Grilled Chicken Caprese - This was also a bit bland and I actually asked for balsamic vinegar but when it didn't come I added salt and it was okay. Scallops - Wonderful!!! Fresh, meaty, cooked to perfection. They were sitting on a bed of spinach over pureed cauliflower. A perfect dish. Zeppole Tree - Whimsical and tasty. The zeppoles were warm and covered in cinnamon. There were two strawberries and it was a joy to eat. I loved the powdered sugar on the tree and stand. I didn't care for the chocolate sauce. It tasted store bought and I would have preferred a home-made chocolate sauce that can hold up to the zeppoles. I give it 4 stars because some items were bland but also.... The bathroom is in the basement and although it's pretty and clean, you do have to walk through a corridor that seems a bit creepy. And the stairs have a lift in the covering so be careful not to fall. They ran out of menus so we had to wait a while to select our food. I did use the time wisely and went to the liquor store. First off, I LOVE TAPAS restaurants. And I don't mean just the traditional ones where everything is Spanish (octopus, shrimp, chorizo, etc). I mean the NEW wave of contemporary places with all types of food or variances of these traditional ones...j Just small plate servings (which is basically what tapas means) Where else can you go to try all different gourmet foods, little of this, little of that, cooked to order. (No, buffets are mass produced and are USUALLY not as diverse) Each portion here is about the size of a small to medium appetizer................ THE PLACE Small inside, maybe 15 tables + approx 7 more outside. Very friendly staff that was on top of everything. Cravings is a BYOB, but has a permit to sell (one brand) of NJ produced wine, which (for an add'l charge) will make it into pitchers of red or white sangria. Pretty good stuff, just read the menu carefully because when you order the sangria, you are charged twice (once for the bottle of wine, second for the juice, cut fruit, preparation) THE FOOD Oh how I wish we had more room to try to that lamb and feta empanada. It was on the radar, but didn't make the cut of the TOP 6 items the two of us ordered at the beginning: 1) Charred Octopus --with crispy potatoes, chimichurri, and sun dried tomatoes was spot on. I eat this dish everywhere. This version is worthy of having again and again, 2) Bronzino Mediterraneo--with Gaeta olives, capers, caramelized onion, white wine, lemon juice. This is a great fish to start. It was excellent. I'd order a full serving of this version any day. 3) Ricotta Gnocchi--with a lamb ragout, cauliflower cream, peas, and Parmesan cheese is one of the TOP dishes of 2017. Absolutely delish. Light as a feather, this little "pillow of pasta" with it's dressing was great. Another item I could eat a whole dish of right NOW! NOTE (for my fellow Foodies): You might not know, but this dish should be called Ricotta Gnudis. Gnoccis are primarily made of potato\wheat. If it is generally made with all ricotta it is much lighter and called a Gnudi ("nudie") 4) Barbecue Pulled Pork Arepa--with guacamole and lime sour cream. It was my least favorite. It was good, but I like my arepa (corn cake) soft, not hard as a rock. Pulled pork was OK. Not a bad item, I just wouldn't do this one again 5) Croquettas--- crispy potato and chorizo style filled with tetilla cheese. You get 4 nice size pieces. They were great. 6) Flat Bread Pizza---Nan bread with hummus, pears, goat cheese and apple smoked bacon. arugula on top..... was another great dish. At the end,very full and content. No room for dessert. Nice cafe style atmosphere. Great food with quality ingredients..... I really do not get the amazing reviews of this restaurant. The drink list is only full or half bottles of California wines that you have the option of making into sangria. Give there were only two of us, we only wanted a half bottle which really limited our options. As a result, we selected a half bottle of Pinot to make into a sangria. The sangria tasted like orange juice vs a nice mix of summer fruits. When it came to the meal, we ordered 6 dishes. The best dish was the tuna tar tar. The fish tasted fresh. After that the quality of food dropped. The mushrooms, as well as the branzino were dry, over cooked, and tasted bland. The paella had way too much sauce in it. The empanada and the dips tasted as if they were sitting out for days. I was also upset that at 9pm parents brought there 2 year old to the restaurant. The restaurant was almost empty! They should not have sat them right next to us. We paid for a babysitter so we could have a baby free night! :( read more

Wonderful food as always. Made a reservation on open table for 5 pm, got there a few minutes early and we were seated promptly. Our waitress was fabulous (unfortunately I can't recall her name). 10/10 will be back again read more
