Went for Saturday brunch and enjoyed this restaurant very much. The food was very good. The cheese omelette was fluffy and loaded with cheese. The whole fries came with it were crispy and tasty. We came here for dinner on a quiet Thursday and had a wonderful experience. There were only a few other tables of people, and we were seated away from the main entrance which we appreciated. We had a few questions about the menu offerings and our waitress was friendly and eager to answer our questions. We ordered the spaghetti ala vodka and the chicken and shrimp. We came on a Saturday early afternoon for brunch. It's a lovely café. The service was fast. The server was very attentive. I love that they give you a bottle of water on the table. I ate the garden omelette and I opted for a side salad instead of home fries. The others in my party had the home fries and said they were delicious and they looked very good. But I'm trying to avoid the carbs so when I asked what they could substitute, they told me a side salad. And it was a very lovely and substantial side salad. But the omelette, it was one of the best I have had in a very long time. The chef here knows how to cook. You could taste the butter and the eggs were so tender and light. The mushrooms, tomatoes, peppers, and onions inside the omelette along with the jack cheese were just delicious. I have not had a true French style omelette in a long time. Nice place to have a meal. What was really great was they had two large menus on offer. One was more breakfast/brunch and the other more lunch dinner and you could order from both. Staff was friendly, food was presented beautifully, place was charming and our food was really tasty. I liked that as soon as I walked in my partner and I felt welcome by the staff and were given seating options. The waitress was good about talking about the dishes and encouraging us to try the different options on the menu that we were not familiar with. She was energetic but not overdoing it. I am happy with everything about this business. The food, the ambiance and the service was excellent. Im not from NJ so I almost did not choose this restaurant because a friend said it wasn't good but I had a good feeling about it and I'm glad I stuck to my instinct. My partner is also very particular about restaurants and she was very happy with the food, service and ambience. We tried the grilled oysters, the tortillas dip? The spaghetti pescatore and my partner chose a chicken dish with asparagus in it. I don't remember the names of these dishes but they were all good. We held my 94-year-old Dad's birthday dinner here in October. Seven people. The tasteful casual atmosphere and service were great! Started off with two caesar salads and two orders of fried calamari for the table. Then everybody ordered their own entrees, with many more selections than what you see online. Everything was very well prepared we were all happy. We brought our own wine and a birthday cake from a bakery down the street. It was such a lovely and affordable evening. We had the pleasure of dining at Stella Artisan last Saturday night. It was a very cold night and entering Stella felt warm & inviting. The decor is beautiful with wood accents and soft lighting. Now for the food. Appetizer- trio of oysters (Rémoulade, Florentine & Parmesan garlic sauce)-outstanding! Mains: Scallops in a lobster bisque tomato cream sauce over linguini just delicious! Tuna steak- Perfectly seasoned and crusted, rare on the inside. Husband said the best he has ever had. Brianna our very friendly server was spot on with her recommendations. Hey peeps, went out on this beautiful Friday night in Ridgewood NJ. Walking down the street and I felt like Italian food tonight. In New Jersey, you can throw a rock and hit a good Italian restaurant, unfortunately I can only say that Stella's was just average. First course - house salad. I just wanted a simple house salad to go with my other app. I can't recall ever returning a salad because it was inedible. Whoever made the salad did not taste the dressing before using it. There was twice the amount of salt than should have been used. Meatballs App - fantastic!! Best I've tasted in a long, long time. Pricey but they were large and great Entree menu is small, I like that. It should ensure that, what you order would be spot on. I haven't had Chicken Marsala in years so i gave it a go. This, unfortunately was tasteless. Not enough Marsala taste, they didn't let the sauce reduce enough. Too bad. It came with a side of mashed potatoes that were extremely loose and the portion size was laughable. Now to the service, or lack there of. Our servery was so extremely sweet, big beautiful smile but nowhere to be found throughout service. I had to get up 3 times to request something and pay. Again, I'm a chef for 30+ years, I know we are facing epic labor issues that most of us have never seen. I review my experiences unemotional and as they happen. Please be patient with the restaurants you visit. In most cases, they are doing the best that they can to stay in business. I hope they all succeed!! Music was great! read more

First time at this restaurant. My wife and I don't usually eat Italian, but we wanted to give this establishment a try. What a nice surprise. We started with an arugula salad, and a quinoa salad. My salad lacked taste, it was bland. My wife's quinoa salad was amazingly delicious, full of taste and flavor. I ordered shrimp scampi, and my wife ordered the salmon. My scampi was very good, but I would've liked a couple more shrimp on my plate. Also, my spaghetti was a little too much al dente. 3.5 stars! I got the prosciutto panini to go and it came with prosciutto, pesto, fresh mozzarella and roasted red peppers and balsamic. It came with salad or fries and I got the salad. The panini was pretty good! The prosciutto was a bit chewy and the website said it was prosciutto di parma, which is usually a lot softer and not chewy, but other than that the taste was great! It was a bit expensive - $18, but I had a gift card so I didn't mind. I wouldn't have ordered it for the price if I didn't have a gift card. The bread wasn't that great however. I would want to go back to try their pasta dishes since the pasta is homemade! And those prices were reasonable. It was a very cute spot so next time I'd want to dine in. read more

This is a cute place to have lunch or brunch, I stopped in for lunch with my best friend who was visiting from overseas. I had the spicy rigatoni but substituted for gluten free fettuccine (they note there is possibility for cross contamination) and it was delicious and the texture was great. It was probably spicier than I expected but it was the only thing aside from the salads that I could have on their menu for lunch (assuming that's the same for dinner)my friend had the gnocchi was he said tasted amazing and very rich. We also have the little house salad with crispy prosciutto on top and blue cheese and it was probably one of the best parts of the meal. Hence no photo we devoured it quickly. I've been here once before this for brunch and ate outside and I had their egg breakfast bowl which was really good. Note: I went here a good while ago so pardon me for not remembering everything. Owned by the same owners of the (much better) S. Egidio's, this place is primarily pasta with a small selection of cheeses, cured meats, and other antipasti. The service as similar to Egidio's was nice. I ordered the whole wheat fusilli which had sun dried tomatoes and Calabrian chili. The portion size was tiny even for lunch but it was perfectly prepared. There was a nice spice kick and overall I found it to be well flavored. If the portion size was better, I'd recommend going here a lot more. This is especially since the food here was actually quite good but I couldn't help but think I was getting ripped off which is surprising considering how good the pizza is down the block and how their portions make sense. I mean Egidio's is also expensive but at least you have super high quality ingredients and unique food unlike here. The pasta is around a 4 but honestly, I wouldn't go back. 3.2. I went to Stella Artisan Italian for lunch and ordered the Avocado Toast. The toast itself was great- nice, buttery taste and not too hard or too soft. The two sunnyside-up eggs on the toast were cooked to perfection. There was a generous amount of tasty avocado spread on the toast. The arugula was a nice addition to the plate. One of my few complaints about this restaurant is the service speed, which was rather slow. Despite the slow service, the waiters were friendly and offered me a seat and water before my friend who I was meeting arrived. The interior is nicely decorated with light colors. Overall, Stella Artisan Italian has high quality Italian food. However, it is a bit pricey, considering my Avocado Toast was $17, and the service is slow. Stella's is right by the train station and hard to miss. There is a parking lot nearby but that does get pretty packed during meal-times. I was a little surprised to find a restaurant with a fresh pasta made to order. The food was great but the serving size is pretty small. There burrata appetizer was pretty tasty- although I didn't really enjoy the drenched today in butter. The shrimp fra diavolo was good but again small portion. The spicy rigatoni was good as well. Stella looks like a corner deli -- with a great big glass case -- front and center -- as you enter -- that has been gentrified for a Ridgewood crowd. The case is filled with raw meats and sausages being served that day. Overall it reads more like a breakfast/brunch joint than a dinner destination. They charge top of the market Ridgewood pricing for very average, casual Italian dining. Same owners as S. Egidio diagonally across the street. A ribeye steak approaches $40 with other cuts and sausage not much less. The fresh pastas and pastries are house made. (see menu here: http://www.stellaitalian.com/menu/). This former Due space (which moved down the block to bigger digs) consists of tight perimeter seating and a few tables -- not comfortable -- with a capacity of about 20 persons -- and at that number -- it is positively sardine like. I wanted to give Stella a try because it was new and convenient to home -- so we came for an early pasta dinner the day before Thanksgiving. I left with mixed impressions. Called for reservations and was told they don't take them -- but the maitre d assured me the restaurant was empty and could accommodate the two of us for dinner immediately. When we arrived (about 10 minutes later) they had several open tables but inexplicably -- the host seated us alongside the deli case -- in perhaps the most inconvenient spot in the entire house. When I asked for a different table, the maitre d said it was reserved. I reminded him of our telephone conversation just minutes before -- in response to which he mumbled something unintelligible. WTF? This did not leave a good first impression. Eating our meals crammed alongside the deli case -- with a funky view of the price tagged raw meats all night -- was trippy. Glad Stella is BYO and our Malbec did its thing quickly. Judging from the crowds we encountered as the evening wore on -- this joint is more hipster trendy than foodie friendly -- like so many pretentious clones in town. On the plus side, attentive service by a millennial crew was very pleasant. We started with a charcuterie platter -- literally two slices of shaved speck and prosciutto with some greens ($18) -- served alongside cold rolls and a dish of seasoned olive oil. Paltry for the price and just -- meh. They were out of their signature oxtail over polenta and scallop antipasti -- which was part of the reason I chose this place. Bummer. The squid ink pasta ($24) was a tiny bowl of ink infused fusilli with a sauce redolent of onion confit and bone marrow, with a couple pieces of scored cuttlefish (seppia) squirreled in there for good measure -- topped with a crispy panko for texture. This was excellent and the best thing we ate all night. But the pappardelle with lamb ragu ($22) was much less interesting -- the sauce lacked the depth of flavor and richness that you expect from low and slow braised lamb -- and just did not stand up to the pappardelle -- that by its very nature demands a rich and clingy sauce. Both pastas ate like fresh and were cooked perfectly. The side of broccoli rabe ($8) was equally well done -- classically dressed with garlic, olive oil and red pepper. My double espresso was served in a stingy thimble sized cup -- and the tiramisu cannoli ($6) had no tiramisu flavor. But the cannoli shell was crispy fresh and the filling -- authentic. I have a hard time correlating the price of this meal to its quality -- hence my rating. A split appetizer and dessert with espresso and appetizer sized bowls of fairly standard fresh pasta with rabe on the side for over $100? I mean -- we weren't eating fresh Italian porcini or white truffles or Caspian sea Beluga here. Jeez. Once again I am reminded that some restaurateurs in Ridgewood feel obliged to gouge their customers. I get that the rents are high and fixed costs drive up food prices. But there are plenty of excellent BYO eateries within a stones throw in any direction that will get you sophisticated multi course meals -- prepared by award winning CIA trained chefs -- who use exotic ingredients -- and treat you royally -- for about the same price (or less). A tip to the owners: Simply marketing your food as artisanal or scratch-made does not make it extraordinary. All cooking (even bad cooking) is art after all -- and IMO there should be some rational relationship between quality and price. If you are the demographic being courted by Stella -- than you may enjoy paying NYC fine dining prices here for their artisanal fare -- perhaps just for the pleasure of sharing company with likeminded folks. read more
