Met a friend for breakfast. It was my first time at Crazy Otto's. Very strange that, at 9am on a Friday, that they were completely empty other than one table. Since there were only two tables working, we got excellent attention from everyone. They started getting busier and busier as we were there, so maybe they just get a later crowd. I ordered the sausage and cheese omelette, which was huge. It was accompanied by a truly obscene amount of fresh hash browns and toast of choice. The omelette was very good. Hash browns were good, but not the best I've had. No complaints, though. Coffee was fresh and hot, and was refilled often while we were there. Service was excellent. We will be back! read more

If you like a basic breakfast place with every possible option, Crazy Otto's is for you. It's a classic diner experience with decor to match, though it's a bit pricey (somewhat assuaged by the huge portion size) This is the third Crazy Otto's location we've been to. It's clean. The service is good, the portions are large, and the food is what you'd expect. The coffee, I think, needs some work. It's not terrible, but I like a truly bold/dark roast, and most diners, including here, give you something that's much lighter in taste. I've had worse though/ As I mentioned, the portions are huge...I'm mentioning it again because they're just that big. My wife and son shared pancakes (which they couldn't finish...They were perfect. I had egg whites on top of hash browns. The egg whites were done well (not overcooked, as it's easy to do with egg whites), and I like their hash browns a lot. It does feel on the upper end of what prices should be for basic breakfast foods. Add-ons are particularly expensive, and there isn't much flexibility for substitutions (say you don't eat meat and want potatoes instead) without just paying for an extra side of potatoes. So relative to other similar restaurants, this was a more expensive experience...but good in terms of a basic diner experience. read more

During my recent visit to Crazy Otto's Diner in Santa Clarita, I was hoping for a classic diner experience. However, the reality fell short of my expectations. The diner has a fascinating history, with Otto Lindsel bringing his lumberjack cooking skills to Southern California in the 1970s, particularly known for his enormous pancakes. Unfortunately, the food was rather average and failed to impress. What truly dampened my experience was the peculiar and somewhat tiresome service from the waitstaff. Upon being promptly seated, the hostess quickly brought me the beverage I requested, which was a good start. However, things quickly took a turn for the worse. When my brother arrived and we were discussing what to order, we noticed that our server was nowhere to be found. This was surprising, especially considering there was only one other family in the diner at the time. After waiting for about 6 minutes, we flagged down another server, who informed us that he wasn't our assigned waiter but offered to take our order. His demeanor was unusually formal, and the whole interaction left us feeling perplexed. We wondered if it was inappropriate to seek assistance from another server. It was an unnecessarily uncomfortable situation. When our food finally arrived, it was brought to us with little enthusiasm, and after that, we barely saw our server. She didn't check in with us even once to see if we needed anything else, which, in my opinion, is basic restaurant etiquette. After we finished our meal, we had to signal her again just to get the check, and by this point, the lack of attention was frustrating. The service did not warrant the standard 15% tip, so I adjusted the tip accordingly. The awkward encounters and lack of attention soured the meal for us. As we left, we couldn't help but discuss how strange the whole experience was, we were being treated as second-class citizens. Unfortunately, this visit will be my last to Crazy Otto's Diner. Next time, I'll be opting for Saugus Cafe instead. read more

Good food and a good amount of food for the price! It is of course expensive cause of the large portions but it's also good quality in my opinion! I got onion rings and a burger, the onion rings were cooked perfectly, the burger was pretty good and flavorful! I could barely finish just a quarter of it cause it's so big! And they also give you a lot of onion rings! Service is always friendly, they were super fast this time! No complaints! Parking is super easy, lots of booths and regular tables. Service was fantastic. Food was good... some great.. some meh! Best things... Scotty's omelette, onion rings, ranch dressing, gravy for (biscuits and gravy), sourdough toast, and prime rib. The meh was... biscuit (not cooked enough, and batter not well mixed.. tasted chemically), pancake (very plain), chips (very plain.. no salt.. no seasoning at all), chicken salad sandwich (very plain).. waitress warned me.. should have listened. Coffee and iced tea were fine. Just to mention.. the service is spot on.. very attentive. The gravy and onion rings and ranch were phenomenal. I would only go back if in the area. I am working through a list of all diners in LA County so drove up to Crazy Otto's from West LA this past weekend and overall had a good experience. It's located far north in Santa Clarita and is 1 of 3 diners in the area that I have on my list. I know that they are known for giant portion sizes and can confirm this is definitely true. Service was very friendly and everything that we ordered came out pretty fast. It's also quite large on the inside so they have a lot of seating options but no outdoor seating. It's inside a small shopping center so there is a giant free parking lot right out front so parking was very easy. As mentioned the portion sizes here are gigantic! It's a little bit more expensive because of that so just know that you're going to pay a little more but also get a ton of food. They are known for their large omelettes so I knew I had to try one. I ordered the most popular omelette, which is the Crazy Otto's Burgermeat and added avocado to it. However when my food came out it was an omelette but filled with just guacamole. No cheese, protein, or anything else. I told my waitress and she said the kitchen made a mistake so they remade it for me and the second, real, version was absolutely delicious. The green chilies inside really added to the flavor and I would happily order it again. The giant omelette with the giant side of hashbrowns was too much for me to finish so this is the sort of place that you will never leave hungry. I would definitely recommend to anyone in the area and if I am ever back up in Santa Clarita, I will certainly give this place another try. read more

It's was a busy morning at Crazy Otto's Diner. There must have been a school event nearby because the place was packed with families, each featuring at least one cleaned up and fancy dressed child. The waitresses seemed stressed. Nary a greeting nor even a reply when a greeting or kind word was offered to them. We got a table and menus and drinks and ordered breakfast, but they were acting like automatons. Not very welcoming. Our breakfasts were big but completely unseasoned and just okay. Okay, as in just acceptable. The corned beef hash was hash browns with a side of griddled corned beef. Only if you add the words up in a certain way did it become corned beef hash. Biscuits were gummy; the top and bottom tasted good but the middle was unpleasant to eat. The kitchen was quick, though. As the families started to leave the waitresses seemed a bit more relaxed and acted in a normal manner. The stage had been set, however. And then the surprise: a credit card fee even though we paid in cash. Hmmmm. Not a problem... the gratuity got adjusted accordingly. This is a situation where a greedy business owner is putting their employees in a difficult situation, not to mention how it puts customers in an uncomfortable situation too. It must suck to be them. Had breakfast here last week Friday morning - this is farther than where I'd go for breakfast but we had to go to the area for an errand so why not start the day right. The place is located in a shopping strip mall area so there's a lot of parking. When we went in it felt like I was transported to old America. Kind of diner you'll probably see in old small towns. We sat in a booth and we were given the menus with a lot of choices. I ordered country fried steak with the biscuit and gravy on the side. Hubs ordered spinach omelet. We had coffee for drinks and that gets refilled. We were confused at first because the server giving out the drinks and menus can't take the order - had to wait for another server. Food was served in considerable amount of time - my county fried steak wasn't the best but the serving size was huge, eggs are cooked well over easy on top of the hash browns. Biscuit was soft and warm - gravy was good. Good value for breakfast - big portions. Definitely worth a try when you're in the area. read more

We always love Crazy Otto's! They are open nice and early. What keeps us coming is the staff and the delicious food. It makes me feel like I'm back home on the East Coast. Everyone is super friendly and the music is always great. It creates a great atmosphere of being in your hometown. Every time we have visited, it's always the same wonderful ambiance. Abba was playing last time! We had the Steak and Eggs, Country-Fried Steak, a flapjack with a side of their Biscuits and Gravy which was just like my father's. I literally shed a tear after my first bite because I haven't tasted that EXACT flavor in over 30 years. The buttermilk biscuits were flaky crusted yet the inside was soft and fluffy. I can't explain how good it tasted because I ended up having a flashback of my father in the kitchen making his delicious gravy. Complete comfort food. Crazy Otto's is a great place to bring the family and enjoy some good family time. It's the ambiance of the restaurant, food and most importantly, the staff that made the entire experience was wonderful. read more

Ok so we chose this place because of the reviews and I will not be coming back. I ordered the country fried steak and eggs. It's literally ground beef with the crust. It was so chewy that I couldn't even stomach eating it. My husband let me have his Denver omelette which that was edible but only with salsa. We ordered chicken nuggets for the kids and they were Dino nuggets . I mean y'all can put a little more effort on making your own breaded ones. It was just overall not the best breakfast I've had in a LONG time. I was very hungry and I could only stomach the sourdough bread with jelly. Sigh. Gratuity charge of 18%??? Are you kidding me??? I came here with my friends (party of 6) and the menu is littered with all types of insane charges. If you would like strawberries on your pancakes, guess what, it's an extra charge of $5.25. Might as well buy a whole pack of strawberries at the market. If you're looking for a budget friendly diner, this is not the place. They weren't lying about being crazy. I will say though that service was really nice, our waiter was attentive. This is our go to spot when the boys go with us to breakfast. If you're super hungry this is the spot. Portions are very large, they are shareable but they do charge for shared plates. I believe it's $1.00 They have been around for a long time, so it's an old cafe. They are located in a strip mall so parking tends to be crazy. Food is good, hubs always orders prime rib. I'm on the lighter side of the menu. 1 pancake is enough for 4 people. The pancake is larger than their plates. They are good. If it's super busy don't expect quick service. This is a family friendly restaurant, so if you're looking for something quiet, then this is not for you. read more

After church we decided to go to this restaurant that my husband has been wanting to go to. When you walk in there is a diverse group of people from every walk of life. We sat down and the owner's daughter, Sophie came to us and asked to seat us. She is a great hostess. She also gave us our silverware. Drew was our waiter and he is so charming. He is very accommodating and serves you with a smile. The service here is fantastic. It is very nice in this restaurant. The food is delicious and the staff are all very charming. I was in the area and happened to check out this local diner... I'm glad we stopped here. Based on the recommendation of our waiter, I tried the pork chops with hash-browns and biscuits and gravy. It was pretty phenomenal and I usually don't eat much pork. The other dish we tried was the corn beef and hash with hash-browns. For the first time I was impressed not only with the food but the service was great. Our waiter was on point and he even let us sample some of the chili which was excellent! Went there yesterday, not too many customers there. My husband and I ordered sausage and American cheese omelette with sourdough toast. Crazy Ottos has a reputation of having the best omelettes, not at this particular crazy ottos. The omelette was awful! We couldn't even finished it. The egg tasted like it was watered down, the cheese tasted like it was imitation cheese, and the sausage tasted like it was boiled in water. The hash browns tasted like they was fried in old oil, and the toast tasted and smelled like it was past it's due date. The service was okay. Now I know why there wasn't too many people there. The All-American Breakfast! Hardy, filling and flavorful. Love their Breakfast Burrito and Country Fried Steak. One thing I've noticed with most breakfast burritos is that they're usually over filled with potato's making them look big and when you bite into them you end up chewing though a lot of potatoes with a splash of bacon or egg along the way. It's like a Starchathon. Unlike many of these regular breakfast burritos you'd get at most other places, the breakfast burritos at Otto's are filled with all the good stuff. Yummm! All of our dining experiences have been delivery for breakfast so hang tight for a future update to my review on inside dining, possibly for dinner. Food was ok - eggs overdone. Huge quantities but expect to pay for it. I got ham and onion scramble with potatoes and with tax and tip it was $24 and change. I only ate half and took the rest home. By the way if you need a heapin' helpin' of flaggi-ness they will fix you up, plently of flags and pictures incorporating flags if that is your thing (I counted 20). Waiter kept calling me "Bud" which always feels odd to me. I am not expecting "Sir" but "Bud" just feels borderline disrespectful. The staff was attentive the food came out fairly quickly the eggs were cooked perfectly over medium the hash browns were the best thing they were so delicious the gravy was also surprisingly good I normally don't have great experience with country gravy but I was pleasantly surprised it was not bland the chicken fried steak itself was very tough and chewy I barely ate a couple of bites.. I'm unsure why it was not a golden brown... The meat itself needs to be tenderized cuz it was literally too chewy. My first cup of coffee was delicious the second cup was bitter but overall I enjoyed everything except for the chicken fried steak it was a no for me I would order everything else again I enjoyed dipping my toast and potatoes in the gravy. read more

First time ever leaving a review but this felt completely necessary. It was not very busy on a Wednesday morning (10:20am) it took an hour for our food to arrive. When it finally did arrive half of it seemed underdone. Our waiter was just awful, every time we asked for something we kept getting excuses. At one point when asking for hot water refill for tea we got the water pot back less than half full. The only thing "crazy" about it was how just when we think it couldn't get worse it did. We will not be coming back unless some serious improvements are made. read more
