Hew was selling really fancy cat furniture but for only $60 he custom made a 35 inch high piece for me with two levels and two hidey holes. Now that kitty condo is destroyed by my cats as intended, it's time for a new one. My builder took the old one and I went in search of blue shag carpet. The first two warehouses I called told me I was crazy to be looking for blue shag carpet. First, they told me, shag went out 30 years ago. And second, nobody is buying blue. I'm thinking to myself, that's the problem with décor these days. Everything is boring, fucking beige or grey. I called Marion's and spoke with a great guy named Jeremy. I told him what I was after and he told me he was sorry but they didn't have anything. No sooner after I hung up with him I had a missed call and a voicemail. I called him right back. Jeremy told me he found a roll of plush, blueberry blue so I took a Lyft over to look at it and loved it. It was 80% off and I bought 12x18 square feet. My builder went to pick it up today. He found scap for $20 and got me $50 refund for even better carpet. I feel really lucky that Jeremy was looking out for me and also that my builder Byron Horner was looking out for me. Rich sent out a guy to measure the spaces, and checked to see which samples had enough of a remnant for our needs. We put down a deposit to hold the carpet until the house was ready for the install. Fast forward from March to August: the house was ready for carpet install, and Rich got us scheduled in right away. The job was done quickly and professionally. The guys left the areas clean and ready for staging. Looks fabulous, and we are very pleased!

I'll keep this as brief as possible and stick to the facts. Macadam installed new carpet for us. It…read morewasn't a small job: we paid around $13k for it. We worked with Angel in the office, Sean in the field, and Jessica ran the carpet crew that performed the install. The morning of the install, Sean informed us they couldn't find the carpet. They lost the carpet! We had the house all boxed up, our dog and kids were away for the day, and we even had professional movers over to help disassemble and move a large entertainment center. Macadam eventually found our carpet, but two weeks had passed by the time it was able to get installed. This was not the only issue we had with Macadam. First, the crew took pictures of themselves pretending to play my son's guitar (and other similar pictures with our things). Jessica said they take pictures like that sometimes for their professional social media accounts. It made me very uncomfortable. Second, they damaged and repaired our bedroom door and never told us. The repair work is highly visible (at least it's low on the door). Third, there are visible seams in the carpet. Fourth, when they attempted to repair the seams, they asked if they could cut carpet from another part of the house to use in the repair. We said no. They ignored our wishes and cut carpet from several rooms when we weren't around. We know this because (a) they left carpet scraps from the cutting and (b) the area where the carpet meets the wall looks worse than before. Fifth, the carpet they cut from was in rooms with closed doors, including a bedroom and walk-in closet with laundry and pets. They entered closed off rooms without asking and performed work we said not to do. Sixth, even after the repair, there are still visible seams in the carpet. Seventh, we let Angel know about all these issues and Macadam offered what we consider to be an inappropriately small reduction to our bill (including a small cash discount and not charging us for moving furniture). FWIW, our interior designer, who has a lot of experience working on projects like this, thought a 50% reduction in the total bill was appropriate just based on the hassle caused by the lost carpet (ripple effect with other projects we had going on). She didn't know about any of the other issues when she made that statement. Given that the quality of the work was far below our expectations, the incompetence around losing the carpet, directly ignoring our wishes w/r/t cutting the carpet, and the invasion of privacy from entering closed rooms and taking pictures with our belongings, we will not use Macadam for a carpet project again. Moreover, I wouldn't let anyone from that crew back in my house for any reason. Two stars because even though this project fell far below our expectations, it's still nice carpet.

Almost right away, I got a text back from one of their staff, and found one I really wanted, similar to the style as my company logo in the colors I like. We went there right away, and was able to have me cut enough material for our stairs. I mean ENOUGH, since we're matching designs. Very very happy with the purchase. Not only, my basement stairs looked elegantly rich, we have ENOUGH to carpet the top of the stairs, which is the hallway (just like before). That's like buying 2 for the price of one.
