We simply looked to have a quote today on an instillation of a direct vented gas fireplace to replace our existing fireplace. Mind you this was the third quote from a local company. Shortly after declining the quote, we were charged a $50 service fee as my wife was told was a standard practice necessary for a fireplace quote. Interestingly, none of the other installers charged us a fee for a "free" fireplace installation quote. Definitely would not recommend for any fireplace installation quotes, do your homework as there are plenty of reputable companies in the area. read more

Chimcare came out and removed my chimney. I wasn't in the house when they did the removal. Chimco didn't do an asbestos test as required. Chimco brought a dog into my house (I do not have a dog, I have a cat). Chimco penned the dog up in my kitchen pantry area, and it defecated many times. It was cleaned up very poorly. Chimco didn't clean up any of the dust, let the dog run around the house, I had dog paw prints everywhere. Chimco didn't put any plastic up to keep the dust away from the kitchen, bathrooms, living rooms, bedrooms. I spent three days cleaning up the mess. Chimco covered the hole in the roof with a tarp, held together by painters tape. Yes, the blue tape that isn't designed to stick to much. After the worker stated he'd been released from prison, he didn't put the key back where it was supposed to be. Chimco did not give me the key back. They still haven't. I paid to have all locks re-keyed. When I spoke to the owner (Jesse) he said I had every right to be upset, but if I wanted any money back, it would come out of the employees check, Jesse explained that the dog was there as an emotional support animal, the employee was going through a tough divorce and the dog makes him feel better. I paid $5,000.00 to have the chimney removed. Chimco did very bad work. I don't recommend them. read more

I strongly advise to look elsewhere. I needed a gas insert repaired during the power outage. For starters, at the discounted rate of $350, Chimcare charges $100 more than most repair specialists in the area just to walk in the door for the evaluation. When I asked what would happen if the unit could not be repaired on the visit/inspection, I was told an estimate would be worked up with the part in question. Once the attached estimate was provided, it was then clarified that Chimcare would not replace a specific part. "The reason for the Pilot Assembly along with the Gas Valve is because that is the only way Chimcare allows me to do. It is their company policy to perform a complete Refurbishment instead of replacing one part." So to confirm, if you need a REPLACEMENT company, Chimcare is for you, If you need a repair specialist, not so much. Also, please see the attached quote, I was told that the fireplace would not work properly with a cracked log (This was the log in the very back that does not touch the burner and is only aesthetic and has nothing to do with performance). In total, Chimcare's estimate was over $3100 to repair my unit. I elected to go with Sure Flame (503.543.3312) who repaired my unit in total for $450 (this includes their site visit). In summary, Chimcare did not communicate their position on only replacing full assemblies. If they were above board and communicated this, I would have never booked the appointment. Regarding their quote, at $1610 for the material for a Pilot Assembly and Gas Valve Kit, and $1128 for a log set, this is clear customer price gouging. That same log set can be bout through Class Pool and Spa for $299. Run from this company for fire insert repairs. Call Sure Flame, they will take great care of you! read more

But unfortunately, once they left, I realized there was something else that needed to be taken care of before I could use my fireplace safely. I reached out to the representatives several times where they promised to come to my house to fix the problem and never showed up two times in a row. Chimcare may do an ok job as chimney sweeps, but we would NOT recommend them for chimney repair. After 2 trees fell on our house and broke off the top of the chimney, Chimcare said they could rebuild the top if it. However, after a few months it was noticed that the entire structure was nearly 2 inches away from the side of the house. The owner, Jesse Peralta, said they could demolish and rebuild the entire chimney for $17,000, and give us $3000 for the over $8000 that already been paid! The entire rebuild should have been done in the first place. Plus, Jesse said, " you still have an Open Claim, you insurance will pay for it!" I was given an outrageous quote of $5,000 to 'repair' my chimney. I sent the photos to another provider based in Portland who cleaned the chimney and noted that was safe to use. The people at Chimcare did not return my call when I questioned them and asked for details about the scope of work. I would never trust them or hire them based on this experience. They seem to have a corner on the market on the Northern Oregon Coast and are offering $5,000 signing bonuses to hire more staff. The report was incomplete, providing only photos and no explanation. I couldn't be happier with the service I got from Chimcare. Jim - the service person that came out was on time, very courteous, and cleaned up everything after he was done. But I made the appointment they had a book a complete cleaning and evaluation of my gas fireplace for $285. But when Jim got here and looked at it he determined that the unit was perfectly clean, and that the power switch on the wall was defective. He ran out to Ace Hardware, grabbed a new one, and installed it. Then he check the flame adjustment and made it look like a real fire for the first time after having it for 20 years! He put it all back together and he said "well I didn't really do any cleaning so I'm only gonna charge you $150 for the service call." I would caution against using this company and if you do, only do so after you get a second opinion! They came on time to clean and inspect my chimney; I guess I had sucker written on my forehead because they thought to try to convince me that my chimney needed a partial rebuild. I was quoted 19k for the job. They would have half way rebuild the chimney and using modern bricks (it would have looked awful). I have since talked to two other companies and both say Chimcare has a reputation in the industry and it's embarrassing. My chimney doesn't need a complete rebuild but does need some repairs and I was quoted 2500 for the work. I can forgive a company say doubling the costs because overhead for some companies is higher but 8-10 times the average costs!?!? If you use this company you're paying too much and you're not getting the quality the cost would imply. Please do your research. Oh! Also as soon as they realized I was getting second opinions suddenly they stopped communicating. I'm sure the people working for this company are honest folks but the owner knows what he's doing. I never post these but this was a scheme. The initial phone call was great, technician was on time, got text message alerts on when he was on the way, and didn't get charged any more than expected. Options were givin on what could be done in the future, but that they weren't necessary now. All types of businesses should have this level of service. I am so unsatisfied with this company!!! They are extremely unprofessional. -To summarize: they charged me to clean my dryer vent, they DESTROYED my existing dryer vent, I have been fighting them for over 3 weeks and having to run my dryer vent hose out a WINDOW! and they INSIST I need to pay $650 for the repair. Here's the timeline: -They came out to inspect my chimney and I saw they cleaned dryer vents as well -They cleaned my dryer vent -A few days later I found the dryer vent cap laying outside- they knocked it off and didn't reinstall it- could have had rodents in my house because of this -Eventually I noticed the dryer wasn't actually venting outside like it used to (used to be able to smell/see it was venting) -I called them back out and they told me they shouldn't have cleaned my vent because it was soft duct instead of hard duct and they RIPPED IT APART while cleaning it (and didn't tell me or notice it when the job was done), and my dryer was venting INTO the walls -They then stated they would make it right -They then gave me a quote for $650 to fix it because they say it was installed incorrectly, and they will not budge -Bryon- the GM doesn't return phone calls and is absolutely awful to work with. We recently moved to a beautiful little cabin in Tillamook. The former owners had never cleaned the chimney and the firebrick was showing some wear in the wood stove. I searched around and found Chimcare. Their coverage area is very large and they are super responsive to questions. I also found a Yelp coupon that saved me $100!! We've had them out twice, once for chimney inspection and cleaning and once for firebrick replacements. They send out convenient reminders of appointments and they arrive on time. Our installer, Walter, is a great guy. He has a friendly sense of humor, does great work, and leaves the work area cleaner than when he arrives. Chimcare was recommended by our local (and only) chimney sweep, who found a number of problems with our elderly fireplace and chimney. The company was touted as a "do it all" solution, which is a real asset in this very rural area with limited specialists of any sort. The two men who did the work (Jay and Andrew) were super nice. They were prompt, polite, thorough and clean. The work is quite professional, and I am pleased with the outcome. They were very patient about answering all my questions. I would give them five stars. My only complaint is with the company management, not with the quality of the work. The chimney sweeping was done at the end of November. The estimate was written in February. It took A FULL MONTH to get any kind of communication with the Operations Department to try to schedule the work. The (very nice) front office staff (Ruth and Siobhan) tried everything: they emailed, called, walked down the hall, cornered people in the office --- no response. At one point I was calling almost daily and never got a return call. Specifically I want to mention Mike and Luis in the operations department for never once acknowledging that I was trying to get some work scheduled. The only way I was able to get traction was to contact the president of the company (Jesse Peralto). Then "suddenly" there was an opening on the work schedule for the following Monday. So annoying! I shouldn't have to beg to pay them thousands of dollars. I would give Mike and Luis 1 star. Ultimately, our chimney is fixed and evrything is good. If and when the Operations Department gets their act together, the company should do quite well. read more

Chimcare workers damaged our property while working on our neighbors chimney. They agreed to pay to replace two windows and for the cleanup of our property which was covered in silica dust from their mortar grinding. Their workers wore no protective gear and no dust mitigation methods were used. After promising to pay us, Chimcare has now reneged on that commitment. I found Chimcare by searching for chimney sweeps in Salem. I bought my home in June, and scheduled them to sweep and inspect my firebox and chimney before I used it for the first time. They were booked out for about a month, but they were friendly and professional so I decided to stick with them. Walter came out and did his inspection. He was very courteous about taking off his shoes and laying down paper to protect my floors. He talked me through what he was finding and was very professional and knowledgeable. He recommended that I have my chimney tuck-pointed from the shoulders up, a new cap put on, and have the back wall of my firebox rebuilt. Jim and Lucas came to do the work, and both were prompt and hard-working. Jim went above and beyond: he cleaned my floors after finishing up inside, and even called the roofer who had installed my new roof and made him come back to re-do the flashing around the chimney. It was clear that they value a job well done and making sure people's homes and investments are protected. Overall they were fantastic. My only complaint is that it took a long time to get on their schedule. Everyone I spoke with and worked with was wonderful, and I will recommend them to anyone in need of a sweep or a mason. read more

Got an estimate on 8/2022 for repairing stucco on my chimney. Paid 50%deposit of $3226.00 on 9/16/2022. Scheduled at end of October. Workers got here but they didn't call the electric company first to place a boot on the electric line. Chimcare then rescheduled into November but no one showed up. After multiple calls, Alex, the telephone protector eventually got Lewis, the project manager to return a call. Lewis assured me they would start the project in December. The date came and went and no show. Since that time I have made multiple calls without success in taking to anybody but Alex. Eventually Lewis called and said the repair would be an additional $4000 above the estimated price. I asked for an immediate refund. I was assured they would rush the process of refund on 1/16/2023. Talked with Alex again on 1/18/2023 and was told takes two to three weeks. Called again 1/24/2023. Again talked with Alex. Told it would be 31 days from the 16th for a refund. THIS IS THE WORST CONTRACTOR I HAVE EVER WORKED WITH. UNRELIABLE, NO CARE FOR CUSTOMER AND POTENTIALLY A RIP OFF. DON't DO BUSINESS WITH THEM. We found Chimcare through a Yelp search. We live in Sandy. Walter was our technician, and he's amazing! He came to our house to clean our chimney a few weeks ago. He called to say he was on his way, and arrived ready to go. He put a tarp down to protect our carpet, cleaned the chimney, and suggested a few things we might consider having fixed inside the fireplace. He also suggested we have a chimney cap installed, as well as a dryer vent cleaning at the same time. We scheduled a 2nd visit right away, and he just left about an hour ago. He did a really fantastic job and also pointed out a few safety issues around our property. He's a total doll, and definitely somebody who stands by his work and does his job with pride. He also took a few pics of what was done. Nice touch! They'll be sending a reminder next year for our next chimney cleaning. It's been up to me to call company 2x for any kind of follow up, now nearly a month post-inspection, and told by office they'll have inspector call me; hasn't happened. I sent an email to office and owner, still no report. The email prompted an unspecific repair/replace estimate, NOT A REPORT! I cannot recommend based on lack of attentiveness, and have no faith in them doing any work as a result. Nick Maddison was awesome!!! He came out to our house, NW of Dallas, in below freezing temperatures and bad road conditions. We have a 30+ foot chimney and had piping that wasn't connected which meant it was a big mess for Nick and what should have been a two hour job, turned into a four hour job. Not only did Nick clean it, fix it and give us heat, he was professional and courtesy the entire time. He was patient and answered all our questions. He even identified two other issues we have, and he gave us a bid for those things at a reasonable price and said they could wait until summer. We will definitely be having Salem Chimney and Masonry and Nick as our pellet stove and chimney cleaning and repair company. read more

I hired Chimcare to come and inspect/sweep my chimney. Ian came out and arrived on time. He quickly looked at my fireplace and told me they would not function without extensive repairs, he suggested converting to gas which I thought was a good idea. He told me that since he couldn't do anything I wouldn't be charged. He gave me quotes to fix the chimney or convert to gas. I thought the tech was very professional. To my surprise I got an invoice for $145. After I told them the technician said I wouldn't be charged they said well how about $125 and that I should pay within 90 days or they would send it to collections. Since I didn't agree to any charges and had a verbal agreement that I wouldn't be charged I will fight them. Use at your own risk. Updating based on the comment below. They make it sound like they were upfront with costs but to the contrary I was told directly by the technician that I would not be charged. If they technician had said we can't sweep your chimney but you own $125 for inspection I would have gladly paid but confusion/misdirection. Oh and to also add they quoted me a ridiculous cost to fix my chimney (i.e. ~$12K) several second opinions were much lower and even more crazy quoted me ~$5K to run a gas line for a gas fireplace without even looking at what would be involved to do so. read more

Basically it was my fault for not being patient with the chimney guy I already started working with. I kept leaving him messages and he never responded but it turned out he had the flu and was down and out through the Christmas/New Year holiday. Now I felt bad that I had scheduled with Chimcare minutes before my first guy finally called me back. So, the awkward moment....I called Bianca right back to cancel. She was so gracious on the phone saying she completely understood and never made me feel uncomfortable. This is the second time we've had Chimcare come sweep our chimney. We couldn't be happier with finding honest, hardworking folks who take pride in their work. We've enjoyed the expertise Walter S. brings to the tasks at hand. Two years ago, he installed a much needed spark arrester at the top of the chimney, swept the chimney, and cleaned the dryer line and vent. Each well done and lasting. And, all done with a smile. Last week, Tony L. took over and did a great job sweeping the chimney and cleaning the dryer lines. Tony is super efficient, kept an impeccably clean work area, and is a fine gentleman too. Finally, We had a slight problem with the heat-deflecting material at the front base of the interior of the fireplace. Bryan, General Manager, had it fixed almost before I could explain what to do.
