**BRUNCH REVIEW** Creekwood recently opened for brunch on weekends and STOP EVERYTHING YOU ARE DOING AND GO NOW!!! I've been twice now and everything is DELICIOUS! The espresso drinks are incredible, definitely get a latte or a cappuccino. The menu has a ton of variety: baked goods like biscuits and scones, French toast, avocado toast, and lots of egg dishes. My absolute favorite is the Huevos Rancheros - if HR is on the menu somewhere I usually order it and the one at Creekwood is honestly the best I've ever had. You can get it with a few different proteins but I got the carnitas and was amazed- made in house and sooo good! They also make their own tortillas - WOW! My girlfriend and I went on Friday night. When we walked in the restaurant it was occupied with a few customers, but not busy. We went on to order our food which took 40 mins to get to us. The service was slow. My girlfriend received the her pizza which was cold. I received my pasta which was okay. Then later I ordered a ice cream sandwich where the cookie was rock hard and ice cream melted. I really had high hopes for this place, but was disappointed. Just tried this place for dinner and ordered the meatballs, little gem salad, and the agnolotti with fresh corn and Padron peppers. First impression was the sight of an iodized salt shaker on each table. Hmm..I don't cook with it and if I was the chef here I wouldn't want my customers thinking it's being used back in the kitchen. 2nd impression: Bread and butter was served cold. Tip: you have a pizza oven, serve the bread hot. 3rd impression: meatballs were grey and unappealing. Tip: you have a pizza oven, char your food. You want great pictures to be posted. 4th impression: little gem salad was overdressed and tasteless. We had to send it back. Tip: give your dressing more flavor so you can dress it properly. 5th impression: we noticed that each gem salad in our row looked different - some had all leaves and some had just the bottom stems (which are inedible) Tip: standardize your salads so your customers won't start comparing their dishes. The agnolotti was served hot and tasty Hopefully, Creekwood will continue to improve themselves, only time will tell. read more

Excellent food and awesome service! The rain and cold didn't get to us under the wide awning and ample heaters. We had the chicory salad, proscuitto pizza, and steak frites ... everything very tasty and expertly prepared. We ended the night with the flourless chocolate cake. Great food and impeccable service. We were five and ordered three appetizers to share, and tasted each others main dish. Main dish options are limited which, to me, is a sign of good food. margherita pizza - can honestly say it is the best I have had. brussels sprouts - crisp, caramelized to the point that they were slightly sweet. I would have liked a little aioli to go with it but the others in our group thought it was not needed. burrata - I am not a fan of burrata but must say the presentation was very good. half roasted chicked - juicy and tender, falling off the bone fettucine with asparagus - awesome gnocchi - I love gnocchi but do not eat pork. Our server told us he could do the gnocchi with asparagus, garlic butter and pine nuts and two of us ordered that. Very good. The gnocchis were soft and were fried in butter till they were a light brown. salted caramel gelato - very good mint gelato - equally good flourless chocolate cake - to die for! UPDATE: it's incredible what can change in a month. Made 11:45 am reservations for this morning. We walked in to utter chaos. We were told we could have two seats at the bar or wait 20-30 minutes for a table. We didn't have 20-30 minutes to wait (this is why we made a reservation before heading over) so we took the two seats at the bar. We had our dog in the car (since outdoor seating was unavailable) so I put a timer on to check on him in 20 minutes. I can therefore tell you that 18 minutes later, we had not even been acknowledged by a server. It actually took a patron sitting next to us to ask his server to please help us! I ordered the same as I had last time: huevos rancheros with carnitas and my friend ordered the biscuit breakfast with fried chicken and scrambled eggs. Our food came quickly, but mine was cold (perhaps room temperature) and his had no fried chicken and poached eggs which he cannot eat. To top it all off, the staff (while extremely friendly) were all running around like crazy due to how busy it was creating quite the frenetic, stressful atmosphere - the opposite of what I am looking for in a Sunday brunch atmosphere. We waited for the check so long, I actually had to leave to go wait in the car while my friend paid because I could not handle another moment in there. Service: The service was quite poor. First off, upon walking into the restaurant we were told that they did not have our reservation despite us having the open table receipt and making it 10 days in advance. Once we were seated, the food was taking a little while and we actually had to ask for bread which was kind of weird. Lastly, although the server was nice, our main courses took way too long to come out, and people seated after us were getting their food first. Food: The food was excellent. For the appetizer we had the little gem which was basically their unique take on a caesar salad and it was delicious. Furthermore, one of my favorite aspects was the hunger inducing mozzarella smell from the cooking pizzas that wafted through the entire place. Additionally, the ribeye I ordered was amazing. Not only was it tender throughout, there was a unique smoky taste. The potatoes and citrus sauce that came with were delicious as well. We decided to try Creekwood based on the previous reviews and the great location. We made last minute reservations and were able to get in same-day. We were quickly seated at our table and given waters. A couple issues occurred. The restaurant is very loud. The server apologized and said the owners were bringing in a consultant the following week to address the issue. Additionally, the table next to us of six guys were trying to talk over the noise, so at our table it was difficult to hear each other. I think with the commotion at the table next to us our server was inundated. Our wine did not come until the appetizer was served about 10 minutes after we ordered. We never received the bread and butter. The ricotta was decent. We also order the mushroom gnocchi. The gnocchi were cooked well, but the mushrooms and sauce were overwhelmed by a large amount sliced onions that made it sweet instead of savory. The table next to us split the bill six ways so the server was at the credit card machine long enough that the host noticed we had been trying to order dessert and a second glass of wine. Came here with a big group on a Saturday morning before I went to a CAL game and the experience was great. I ordered the fried chicken sandwich, and let me tell you, it was pretty darn good! I added on bacon and an egg, and while it was a little messy it was okay because it's all part of the fun of eating such a good sandwich! Where am I? This restaurant is so stylin, like a Hopper painting come alive with excellent food, that I feel like I'm in a hip, San Francisco restaurant rather than Sacramento near Ashby (aka SOWEBE)! I highly recommend if you want to have a fantastic food experience. My older sister bonded with the waiter in a way that only someone serving with heart could do, "don't say anything negative about my waiter," she commanded after the waiter dinged my glass putting a plate down. I like to be fair, but was struggling to find a criticism somewhere. Meatball appetizer huge and our new favorite, the pizza's thin, wood fired crust was wonderfully spiced so you could taste the fresh ingredients. Dessert was a classic and excellent, rather than a jumble of mystery ingredients thrown together in someone's head the night before, but not taste tested as I find in too many "instagrammy" restaurants these days. The cooks are experienced. I did four stars rather than five since the bread tasted fresh, yet not crisp and light. Hard to keep bread crisp when purchasing from local bakeries, but maybe there is a way (I'm a carb addict so this is a personal rating). I live nearby, and almost every night full, so make your reservations in advance folks! Back to Creekwood, how do you fill a restaurant without ever putting up a sign? Its very good. I didn't want to love this restaurant. It opened up a couple blocks from my house, and they told a neighbor "We don't need a sign." We thought they were snobs. However. However, then my husband and I ate there and, well. I'm just sad I can't afford to eat there every night. The food was cooked perfectly, the flavors were new and interesting, even though the dishes sound simple. Simple food made perfectly is what it's all about. One of the owners came and chatted with us. He told us they want to be a neighborhood restaurant. I have to say, I doubt that will happen at those prices, but it seems like when I drive by there's usually people there, so they must be getting guests from somewhere. They mentioned opening for brunch eventually and I look forward to that! Also, maybe a less expensive Monday night menu would be a lovely treat for the neighborhood. read more
