I'm addicted to Delice & Sarrasin. I have been here so many times however decide to write an updated review. After patronizing the restaurant for few years, for the first time I sat at a different table. As I was about to ask to it at my usual table, I figured try something new to view the restaurant in a new vantage point. The melodic instrumental upbeat jazz music sets the mood. This time I noticed for the 1st time there is a tapestry on the wall near my usual seating. Hadn't noticed it before. Also, noticed the outdoor garden seating area. Ambiance is still cozy, casual and warm. The food par usual is delightful. Bountiful, with varied notes and flavorful is the Cassoulet Toulousain with a side of spinach. It's a winner every time. I swear the next time I am going to try another dish but why mess with perfection. I opted for a zero proof house made Natural Hibiscus Ginger drink and water. The cozy, bistro like dining room is in the back of the storefront. The menu offers up familiar dishes (escargot, onion soup, mains, savory and sweet galettes and crepes): we split an order of escargot, bouef bourguignon, and a galette with chicken, walnuts, goat Cheese, and emmenthaler The "escargot" (broiled oyster mushrooms in a garlic plant butter sauce) didn't hold together, but were tasty nonetheless. The "beef" came as cubes of a pea protein based vegan meat in a fantastic, richly spiced red wine sauce with fingerling potatoes and carrots, while the Mr Seguin galette was an excellent buckwheat crepe with pea protein chicken, walnuts, agave syrup, "goat cheese", and a coconut based emmenthaler. We recently visited New York, and our son took us to Delice & Sarrasin since my spouse is vegetarian. It turned out to be a wonderful choice. I ordered the La Paysanne savory crêpe, which was absolutely delicious. It had a rich, creamy consistency, and the flavors were perfectly balanced. My spouse chose the Crabe Pané aux Choux de Bruxelles--a vegan crab cake with Brussels sprouts. She really enjoyed the crab cake, though she felt the Brussels sprouts were slightly overdone. We also shared the truffle fries, which were fantastic and full of flavor. The restaurant itself was clean and beautifully decorated with a charming French-style ambiance. The staff were knowledgeable and took the time to explain the different plant-based proteins used in their dishes, which we appreciated. My friend and I came to this restaurant serving Vegan cuisine for lunch. Upon entering, there was a lovely display of pastries and a dainty, sparkling chandelier. I immediately fell in love with the decor, which was elegant and beautiful. There were delicate French touches and plenty of space, along with a garden backyard area. I ordered the Croissant Sandwich, with Filet Mignon, garlic butter, and truffle filling. This was toasted to a crisp and the Filet Mignon had a nice, meaty texture. It was also well seasoned. The garlic and truffle flavors were delightfully pronounced, melding wonderfully together. I was able to try the Crab Cake and Mr Seguin, a buckwheat Crepe filled with goat cheese, grilled chicken (substitutes), walnuts, coconut emmental cheese, as well as agave. The Crab Cake was a pretty decent imitation, satisfyingly crispy and quite flavorful. This was served on top of brussel sprouts, which were full of hearty, savory seasonings and spices. Crepe was also tasty and cooked perfectly. It was slightly on the sweet side, with ingredients working beautifully together. For dessert, I went with the Waffle with coconut condensed milk. The Waffle was way too dense for me, but I enjoyed the coconut condensed milk. On the way out, I took a Lemon Almond Cake with frosting to go. There was a delightful lemon and almond taste to the sweet, moist cake. The frosting added to the deliciousness. Service was solid. Our waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Pricing was decent, especially for a vegan restaurant. I would absolutely return and try an actual entree, such as the Tournedos Rossini (Steak with foie gras in truffle wine sauce), Boeuf Bourguignon, or the La Paysanne Crepe (bacon, tomatoes, onion, potatoes, coconut cheese). read more

As soon as you walk into the restaurant, you feel transported to France with the beautiful decor! This was the first time I was trying vegan French place and I was super excited. To start with on winter afternoon, we went with Lentil Carrot soup and French Onion soup. Both were pretty amazing!!! Absolutely loved the soups - definitely must have! We also ordered the steak cut fries and they were cooked perfectly - crunch in the outside and moist in the inside. In the main course we ordered white bean casserole, Ratatouille and La Paysanne crepe. Loved how they have put together the casserole - the vegan duck patty was made of all vegetables and vegan sausage was made of peas. The white bean was so hearty and warm to go along with the patty and sausage. Excellent combination! We also liked the ratatouille - great flavors packed in with the eggplant. The La Paysanne crepe was a let down - the crepe was too dry and I wouldn't recommend to go for this. The service was quick and staff were friendly. Note that the Bakery opens several hours before the restaurant and has beautiful outdoor courtyard seating (&indoor if weather not so great). We sampled sweet & savory items & every one was so good we were in heaven! Previously had dinner at the restaurant and wanted to check out their new bakery in the restaurant Délice de Bernay, since it's all vegan. the interior is beautifully decorated as it's part of the restaurant and it's mostly a takeout setup and it has an array of pastries, decided to have the macaroons and they were not as soft but still pretty good. Delice & Sarrasin is a special restaurant. I'll start right off by saying it's arguably the BEST vegan restaurant in the USA. Food is not just outstanding, but they've managed to do something quite incredible: All my life I had to listen to "Well, you know French food can't be vegan b/c of all the butter, and cream, and bone broth, etc etc." Well, Delice & Sarrasin blew that right out of the water. We go every chance we get and bring nonvegans whenever we can. It's of course a revelation for them, they can't believe it's vegan. read more

I've been to this spot twice and both times I was thoroughly impressed. If you like French cuisine, then this spot is for you. They do an amazing job replicating French dishes to make them vegan. The dishes are innovative and well portioned. I miss eggs a lot as a vegan and I can honestly say their "poached eggs" are so realistic tasting and hits the spot. Everything was under seasoned and the menu description and flavor profiles were inconsistent. How can a French restaurant get fries sooooo wrong? Soggy and inedible. Aside from the fact that a French vegan restaurant is a novelty, I was underwhelmed with Delice & Sarrasin. The service was painfully slow -- not in a good way where there's plenty of time to enjoy your conversation but more in a "should I just leave this restaurant because no one has greeted me or offered me water more than 10+ minutes after I sat down?" kind of way. Also, the $27 "steak frites" included a small amount of plain french fries, no aioli or ketchup offered to go with them. The "escargot" didn't taste like much of anything and was served scalding hot from the kitchen. Overall, it's kind of meh. My most recent visits were at different times of day, that quiet time between lunch and dinner when I indulged and ordered their exquisite cheese plate all by myself! And enjoyed a glass of wine. Just because it was a Thursday afternoon in February. And I felt fancy. Most recently I came on a Thursday evening with a friend and we shared that aforementioned plateau à fromage and I was reminded that these are the little moments in life that are the best moments in life. I had a beautiful nicoise salad and now I'm looking back at the menu with some regrets. You really can't have it all unless you live close by and that, I do not. But I'll return. Since I'm vegetarian, I often don't get a chance to try the most well-regarded dishes of French cuisine. Coq au vin, beef bourguignon, escargots, croque monsieur- these are all foods I've heard a lot about but could never really appreciate. Luckily, Delice & Sarrasin has changed that. I've been walking by this restaurant for nearly two decades (even back when they were located on Christopher Street), but I never stopped in. Why? I just thought to myself, "How good could vegan French food taste?" It's all about the butter and eggs and meat, at the end of the day- right? I finally decided to try D&S out with my friend who has a dairy/egg/shellfish allergy, and we were not disappointed. First of all, it must be said that the dining room is amazing. It's much bigger than you'd expect based on the unassuming entrance, and it has a really cool, romantic vibe. It's not an overly-sanitized, overly-modern room- instead, it oozes character and makes you feel like you stumbled upon an undiscovered treasure in the West Village. There's even an outdoor patio. The food was awesome. I did not expect to enjoy it so much! I tried the beef bourguignon, which was cooked in a delightfully rich, surprisingly complex red wine-based stew. The fake beef was actually really tasty, with a great umami and texture that I really enjoyed. I also had the crab cakes, which were delicious and filling. The brussel sprouts that accompanied the crab cakes were the stand-out for me- I loved the way they were cooked, and how flavorful they were. For dessert, we had the crepe suzette. Although it's understandably difficult to replicate the flavor of butter, the crepe still tasted wonderful, and had a great citrusy burst and a true decadence. I'd be curious to try their other desserts, given how tasty this was. Overall, I really enjoyed Delice & Sarrasin. It is a great choice if you're looking for a vegetarian-friendly restaurant, have a vegetarian friend who might want to try traditional French cuisine, or are just looking for a romantic restaurant in the Village. Went on a Saturday afternoon with my fiancée, who's an omnivore. We got the Konjac "salmon" crepe, the crab cakes, and the chicken cutlet. We also got a bottle of wine. Entire meal including the wine came to like $130 which is not at all bad, considering that there was plenty of food, and all of it was amazing. Ambiance is quiet and romantic, so it's a great spot for a nice date. For what you're getting, the food isn't at all expensive. It's served on nice china, and wine comes in really nice wine glasses. Food came out quickly and piping hot. Absolutely no complaints there. The salmon crepe was crispy on the outside, and tender and creamy with the filling. Omni fiancée was like "They got the taste AND texture for the salmon just right" and he enjoyed it tremendously. The crab cakes was generously sized, with Brussels sprouts as an accompaniment. It held together nicely while not being too compacted. It had a nice light texture. The chicken cutlet was very crisp on the outside, along with a side of creamy spinach. Both were cooked just so; the spinach was still vibrant green and tender. Our meal was satisfying, and the waiter was attentive without being obtrusive at all. read more

We've eaten at this restaurant for many years in both locations and this was the best meal we have had so far. They also have a wonderful vegan bakery in the front. Some of our personal favorites to get is the almond croissant and the chocolate croissant. I really like the new location. It is more upscale and has more space plus a really great outdoor area. I used to be a semi-regular at their old spot near Gay St., but hadn't been back since they moved to Houston St. The new location is much bigger and absolutely gorgeous. It's French and fancy, but not in an overdone kind of way. I love (love!) the interior and especially the backyard, the decor and ambiance are totally spot on. The food, you know... delicious as ever! I had the La Suzette, so simple, yet beautifully done and incredibly tasty. The staff also seems friendlier now. Back in the day, the service definitely had some sass. Like a classic French attitude that's a little sharp around the edges. I guess it was part of the vibe? French is my favorite cuisine and my wife is vegan, so when she found this place in NYC, it was a must try. So we started with the cheese board because of course we did. Delicious. I want to know where they get their cheese and do they offer a subscription. For my entree, I got the Cassoulet Toulousain, which is a white bean casserole with seared "duck" patty, Toulouse "sausage", onions, carrots and tomatoes. Yea, I copied it from the menu but that's a lot to remember. Did it taste like duck? No. It frankly wasn't really close. But you know what? It also didn't matter. This dish was phenomenal. I wanted more but more did not magically reappear. In fact, it made me stop believing in magic because if magic was real, that dish would have been bottomless. Utterly amazing dining experience. All the luxuries of French dining but vegan-style! Flavors were rich and complex. We didn't taste a thing we didn't rave over Started with the Brie with potatoes and bread. So creamy and good Cog au vin and Steak with foie gras in a yummy mushroom sauce.........and all vegan!!! I need to preface that I am not a vegan or generally a fan of French cuisine. However, I was very surprised with how much I enjoyed this meal. I went to appease my sister who is vegan and found this place through an online vegan forum. We ordered 4 meals, the baked Brie, and the French onion soup. For four people it was more than enough food. There was even enough for one of us to have leftovers the following day. What was nice about this place was that all of the "protein" options were different in taste and texture. So often, alternative meats all feel the same way. This was all very distinctive to the meal they were representing. My favorite was the "steak patty." The place was hard to find and our Uber driver got lost. The address lists it on one street but it's not actually on that street. Very confusing. We also ordered the creme brûlée. My significant other and I came to Delice & Serrasin for an anniversary dinner. I am vegan and when I found out that there was a vegan french restaurant I just had to go! My favorite thing was the cheese board appetizer, the gouda style cheese was out of this world, like honestly the best plant based cheese I have had in a long time. The cheese board is a great app for anyone looking to experience a variety of textures and flavors. My only wish is that it came with a little more bread. We also got the brie appetizer which was yummy as well, although we preferred the variety in the cheese board. My date got the Boeuf Bourguignon and I got the Tournedos Rossini and we both loved it! His was surprisingly a little sweet but the steak and carrots were cooked perfectly. I was not the biggest fan of the cheese on my steak but the general taste and texture of the rest of the meal was spectacular. We thoroughly enjoyed everything! This was my second time dining at Delice & Sarrasin, and while the food was fantastic, the service was disappointing. The server wasn't attentive and seemed judgmental. We were only offered tap water with no option for bottled/sparkling, and when our bottle was empty, it wasn't refilled. The most disappointing part was when the server stood over us and asked how much we were going to tip before we even paid the bill. I thought tipping was a private matter, but this felt intrusive and uncomfortable, implying that we wouldn't tip at all. I've been really curious about this place for a while, and was excited to check it out as our veggie girl's night pick! We each ordered the French Onion Soup as a starter and the La Paysanne Galette to share. The French onion soup was a little disappointing as it didn't have the rich flavor of true French onion soup, and sadly the coconut cheese didn't properly mimic the taste of real cheese. The galette was much better - the cheese had a more realistic flavor, and I liked the taste/crunch of the bean bacon. The crepe itself is made of buckwheat and was a tad dry, but I still enjoyed it. The menu is pretty extensive, and it's so nice to be able to order anything as a vegan or vegetarian. I would definitely go back to try some more of their dishes as I feel we barely scratched the surface. I'm normally not vegan, nor do I love French food, so I was pretty skeptical coming into Delice & Sarrasin. However, it really exceeded my expectations, and would highly recommend anyone to give it a try! We started with the escargot, the foie gras, and the plate of cheeses. The escargot was really fantastic; it just truly tastes like great escargot, super rich and buttery and overall delicious. The foie gras was good, but a bit more muted in flavor than I would expect. Got pretty hidden if I spread it with the jam. The cheeses were also a standout; they really land the funkiness well, with excellent textures. The blue cheese was fantastic! For mains, we got the crab cakes, the beef bourguignon, and the chicken legs. The crab cakes were fantastic; somehow has the texture of a normal crab cake, with great flavor. The beef was probably the letdown of the meal; I feel like they went too heavy on the wine reduction, so it ended up actually quite bitter. The chicken legs were also great; pretty clearly tofu based, but the sauce was delicioius. Overall, a fantastic meal, would highly recommend! read more

Mind-blowing vegan French food! Lived up to all my expectations. We started with the baked brie appetizer that was widely recommended, and it was so gooey and delicious. I had the cassoulet as my entree, which was so hearty and flavorful and satisfying without being too rich. Friends tried the crab cake and coq au vin and enjoyed them. Dessert-wise, the orange creme brûlée was excellent (amazing texture!) although very heavy on the orange. The chocolate mousse was good and also very orangey. The almond milk chocolate cake was good although the least memorable of the desserts. I definitely want to try a crepe on my next visit. The hot dark chocolate was rich and delicious. The French alcoholic cider was also really good. Basically everything we tried was great; the atmosphere is equally lovely (really feels/looks like a cozy French restaurant).
