I've lived in North county for almost 30 years and boy have I blown it!! Tried Crispys for the first time yesterday..on walking in I noticed they're day old specials which were half price and saw the blue berry doughnuts. Really appreciate the half price offering..not to mention they are some of the best blueberry doughnuts I've EVER had!!! Absolutely delicious and fresh still!! Tried the Dutch crumb this morning.. insanely fresh and soft and tasty and wonderful!! Again one of the best I've ever had.. When I say this, I'm comparing these to Peterson's and Rolling Pin up in Camarillo!! And I'm becoming a rather stout large adult as I get older.. Can't wait to try more from Crispys. Cronuts, Ham and cheese, old fashioned, long john were pretty good and the donuts were soft and delicious and not too sweet. I'm not sure if it's just me but this place doesn't really have tons of varieties but they seems to carry better quality than quantity. I love how the staff always be friendly regardless how busy they are! I really appreciate them all. If you know there is a very popular donut place in Encinitas, well it's Cardiff by the Sea to be exact, this place is BETTER to me. First things first--if you don't get here early, the selection may be sparse! This happened once so I had to substitute my maple bar for an apple fritter - and I was so glad(very tasty)! I was extremely excited to try this place based on the reviews. We got there and saw a line out the door, which is good. It was around 8-9am on a weekday so a lot of construction and landscape guys grabbing a bite. The selection wasn't great most likely because it was busy. But they looked like they were making more, which is good. We got a couple of chocolate twist donuts and a maple bar. All nice and light, not too oily, but on par with other shops. They did give my daughter a donut hole on a stick, so she was happy. I'd definitely stop by if I was in the area, but wouldn't necessarily drive out of my way for one. read more

I've been wanting to try cronuts ever since they were invented by Dominque Ansel, but haven't had the chance to go to New York to get them. This place seemed to be a popular place for what I was looking for, so I tried calling them a few times and leaving a voicemail, but no one ever picked up or called me back. I made one last attempt since I needed to place an order and get them in time for a work potluck the next day. I was so happy someone finally answered! I ordered 6 cronuts- 2 with whipped cream and strawberries, 2 with custard and strawberries, and 2 nutella ones. This doughnut shop is located in a strip mall and it took me about 40 minutes to get here since it's so far from where I live. When I came in to pick up my cronuts, they were already in a pink doughnut box, but if you want them individually wrapped, they were willing to do that too. The Asian lady working there was very nice and gave me complimentary doughnut holes in my box. All the other donuts in their display case looked fresh and tempting- some of them were huge too! The cronuts were beautifully decorated and very scrumptious! The delicious combination of a croissant and a donut was amazing. The flaky layers had a nice crisp on the outside and fluffy soft layers on the inside, and had the perfect amount of filling. Everyone in the office enjoyed these tasty treats and it was definitely worth the drive to get them. Cronuts... Yes, I gave in... I came in on a Saturday afternoon since I was passing through and sadly there was only a handful of donuts left. The owner (Linh) started talking to me and actually kept me in the store for about 30 minutes just having conversation. I decided to get a couple donuts and she offered me samples of some of what was left of their donuts. She said to come in early next time and she apologizes for not having any donuts left. WOW, I'm the one who came in at 1pm. LOL Linh mentioned that they take orders for cronuts so I decided to place an order. I ordered the custard, whip creme with strawberries, nutella and chocolate. The following day I came back and my order was ready. I looked at the selection and seriously there was like 2 dozen donuts left. I took the remaining donut holes, a raspberry filled and sugar donut. 2 other customers behind me took the rest. By 1230p all was sold out. Are you kidding me?! This place is ridiculous. Linh is so sweet. She invited me back and said that she wanted me to try other items. She apologized profusely for not offering me samples, but said when I come back she will take care of me. Solid three star review. To be honest, I wasn't expecting much from this place. It's in a strip-mall that looks pretty run down and that side of Rancho Santa Fe isn't exactly the nicest part of San Marcos..but I have to say...Crispy's Donuts proved me wrong. I brought my two kiddos there after the morning at the park (score for being super close to a nice park). We did arrive on the later side (around 12) so I knew they wouldn't have the same selection as they would first thing in the morning. Both kids wanted a chocolate covered donut bar and I ordered a bavarian creme donut. They were really good! I mean, not Peterson donut good..but really good. Service was fine. The cashier even gave my kiddos two free donut hole pops. Sure..more sugar! HA! Inside is very non-descriptive. A few chairs, some tables...get your order to go. I came here the other day, because of their famous cronuts and was told they sell out fast & that I could preorder them, so I ordered them to be picked up the following day, which is today. I'm usually really good at checking my order before I leave a restaurant, but for some weird reason I didn't today. I was excited to bring them to my parents in San Diego, but to my utter surprise, I opened the box and they were just plain donuts, one glazed, one chocolate, one plain. no filling, no creme filling, or strawberries. I called and spoke to long(not sure if that's how I spell her name) & she told me the person who took my order wasn't the same person to make the order. She was nice & explained that the next time I come in, I would be refunded. I'm just disappointed that I wouldn't get to try their delicious cronuts. But the day that I went to preorder, I tried one of their crullers & it was delicious & fresh! Moral of the story: always check your orders before you leave. The shopping center that the donut shop is on got renovated on the outside. :) Looks nice! The inside of the shop is clean and has a few tables and seats where you can relax and enjoy your donut. I use to think this place had the greatest donuts, but now every time I go in there, approx 8 am, on several different weekdays, they are out of everything, but glazed donuts. I use to get an awesome cronut here, but was told by an employee that I have to preorder the donuts I want, because they don't make enough. The staff is not friendly at all! I stood in line with 4-5 people behind the counter and once the lady in front of me left, about 3-4 minutes later I was asked what I wanted, like they were unaware I was waiting. Disappointed this business has gone downhill. I will be making the trek out to Peterson's, it's nowhere near my home or office, but they always have everything 24/7 and the line around the building goes fast. Their use to dealing with crowds. This review is looooong overdue. My wife and I got married in San Marcos last year on May 27. We decided pretty last minute to scratch our dessert table for a donut wall and these folks were happy to help with a large order, somewhat last minute. They were so helpful and an absolute pleasure to deal with. We were a little skeptical of the idea of having donuts sit 8 hours before being made available to our guests. No matter though, they were incredible!! We got a large assortment and the quality was absolutely amazing. They were a huge hit! Easily the best thing on the menu and something I'll never forget.
