I've said it before and I'll say it again. One of the best things about having a new office is that you get to go exploring the restaurants around you! One of the BAD things about this in Carlsbad is that almost 90% of the restaurants around me are chains. Luckily San Marcos has some jewels spread around, like this place. Crispy Donuts popped up on my bing search for Donuts. It wasn't even a search I did, it was an automatic search for logging in. What got my attention was the beautiful Cronut that was on the front page. Mmmmm looked good. So, since it's on my way to work, I decided I'd give it a shot. It's very easy to find and it's got a nice parking lot to park in. I went in the morning so I'm guessing that the parking lot does get full during the day. When I walked in, I was a little disappointed that there were no cronuts in the case. This meant that they were sold out and none were in "the back". It was 8:30 and they were already sold out! I decided to go with my other backup. The old fashioned style fried maple bar. Well, my normal backup is a maple bar but they had ones that were old fashioned style. MMMmmmm is all I have to say. With a great crispy exterior and a nice fluffy interior, this was REALLY freaking good. I asked the girl who helped me about the cronuts and she said that I can call ahead and have them set one aside for me. Considering I wake up, and instantly am out the door, I don't think I'll be waking up earlier to get a fat bomb. Overall they people working there were helpful, the girl was really nice to the B that was in front of me. Demanding that they check everywhere for the donuts they were hiding from her. Demanding only the freshest of all. But still, the employees were nice. The donut was a dang near perfect 5 star but not the best I've EVER had. I"ll definitely be coming back, hopefully when they have cronuts. read more

Long overdue review of the BEST donut/cronut spot this side of the SD County! I have referred countless friends to Crispy's over the years and they have never made me look like that person that over-hypes a place only to find it's disappointing to others. Their diverse offerings of fluffy cronut flavors make it hard to decide which one to spend your cheat calories on... Cinnamon dusted with Nutella filling? Yes please! Whipped cream with strawberries? Sign me up! Chocolate glazed with custard? Send it my way! I might be a little passionate about cronuts... Their donuts are nothing to sneeze about either. Straight up regular glazed, chocolate cake, and blueberry are among my faves. I stopped in around noon on a Tuesday after the donuts I had at a nearby place just didn't cut it. This place is way better. Being later in the day they didn't have a full selection but we tried four different donuts, all were above average donuts. The Boston cream, cake sprinkle, sugar, and glaze (see my pics). Due to the poor behavior of the owner- the mom. She had her "regular" customer- an older lady wait for her donuts while she served the rest of her customers. That's rude. This poor old lady waited just as long as everyone else. Why does she have to be set aside while she serves everyone else?! Literally, over half an hour, because I was there waiting as well. I was so angry by that, I called them and the son said "oh that's okay, she's a regular customer" Uhhhh...How bizarre is that? Just give the woman her donuts & let her leave !! Who wants to wait?! I know, that poor lady didn't I ordered a special order of donuts and paid the day before - per the same owner's request. And when I got there in the morning to pick up the order, she had the audacity to say "next time, don't order this in the morning. We are busy" Then, she should have said that the day before when I placed the order and kindly paid for it in advance. So rude. Of course, every other worker, there is very pleasant and nice. I am a bit confused by this place. Based on pictures and reviews I was expecting to find those super tasty-looking cronut concoctions to line the case but it seems like their special ordered?? The selection isn't as extensive as other shops either when it comes to the usual donuts. As per usual I got a cpuple of buttermilk donuts and I must say in terms of size, these were some of the largest compared to other shops. They were pretty good but nothing special. I also tried the apple fritter which had the consistency of cardboard. Flavor-wise it was just ok - it could have used more cinnamon or something... Kinda bummed I didn't get to try those fancy looking donuts but maybe I'll try ahain when I'm in the area. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here though. read more

Simply: the best donuts around. I used to like the "V" guys in Cardiff, but after experiencing bad quality (stale/soggy) donuts over and over from teens who don't give a crap, I now avoid them. There's a trendy donut place in downtown SD that was fun for a few visits. Then I wised-up an realized that all the donuts there are the same dense cake with a different frosting on top. So good! There's a line for a reason! The texture of their dough has some chew, but at the same time melt in your mouth. I picked up 4dz for a gender reveal and the next day, my mom said the donuts were still so good! If it was from other places, the dough would have started to harden. Wow, I am very disappointed. Got there early and the place is super busy as expected. I had called in my order but still had to wait in line behind folks dithering over what donuts to get. Ham and Cheese Croissant was yucky. Big puffy greasy thing with some ham in the middle and a weird runny cheese which they heated in the microwave. On thing this is not is it isn't a Croissant by any stretch. Added a simple plain donut. Couldn't even eat the first bite. Tasted of rancid oil. Coffee was just ok. Will not be back. Fresh items, always stocked, friendly and fast service: Crispy's Donuts is located on my route to work. So are many other donut shops but I only go to Crispy's. Their donuts and croissants are delicious. They are low priced as well. The friendly service is a plus too. I have been going there for over a year now. I have never had a negative experience there. Today, my girlfriend and I went there for her birthday breakfast. She loves this place too. A lady gave her an extra item for free for her birthday. Crispy's is a great donut shop. I got a coffee, glazed cronut and a blueberry cake donut. The blueberry donut was fresh and there is little better than fresh when it comes to donuts. The cronut although not hot out of the fryer was delicious too. Add in a good hot coffee and you get a spot worthy of a breakfast stop any day. The shop is small and in a nondescript strip center. The owner was friendly and service was good. They have plenty of parking. The location at a major crossroads right off the freeway makes them easy for a quick pit stop. read more

Hands down, Bar none, my favorite donut shop!!! They're just so good! Try the cream puffs, the cream cheese croissants, and the cheese danish. (They also make savory croissants and danishes like ham and cheese or jalapeño). I also love their simple glazed donut, the blueberry cake donut and the chocolate with the Bavarian cream filling. One thing that makes Crispys special to me is that I've been going here since I was a kid, the same owners still run the place and the quality is consistent, but the selection and options have gotten even better as the years passed. Great donuts at a good price. As far as local donuts go in north county San Diego these are the best I've found. It's a super small shop. We went in on a Sunday morning and although it was super busy, the staff was efficient and delivered service with a smile. My favorites were the Cronut (obviously a crowd favorite on here) and Cinnamon Roll which was big, not too sweet, and perfectly melted in my mouth. The ingredients seemed to be pretty high level. I had nothing to do and I couldn't be at home cause my wife likes to kick me out of the house on my days off. Been hankering for a donut for a few days so I look up on the ole yelp the best donuts in town. It was a 3 way tie between crispys, and a few other places but crispys had more reviews, decided to take the 15 min drive and now I'm glad I did. Upon finding the place I was a little unsure, its in an old strip mall and doesn't look like much and there was a bum in front rummaging through his back pack mumbling to himself but I decided to go in anyways (I was pretty committed at this point) upon entering I was greet by a lovely elderly asian lady who I assume is the owner. I had come here for the donuts but learned that they also had Cronuts which I've heard about but never had one. I got a glazed cronut and a maple glazed and a iced cafe mocha, the owner was so nice and suggested I add a little french vanilla to the mocha for extra flavor and she was right tasted great. The donut was good, the right amount of glaze, not greasy and soft but not too soft. The cronut was definitely the star of the show. The bite was Crispy, airy with delicious layers of buttery goodness that wasn't too sweet from the frosting. I've not had a cronut before like previously mentioned but if other reviewers are right then this is the place to have a cronut. While sitting at the window enjoying my sugary prize I decided to read a few reviews about this place and learned that they'll fill the cronut with custard, nutella, strawberries, whip cream and all sorts of stuff, so imagine my disappointment when I had no room left in my belly for another cronut!!! So being witty I made the quick decision to order one to go for my wife. I asked for custard filled but the owner once again inserted her donut mixology genius and suggested I get it filled with whip and custard! How could I say no? She disappeared to the back where I assume her magic dessert wand was and a few minutes later came back with something that looked like a cronut triple Decker sandwich from the all father Zues himself! It was like a club sandwich of coma inducing sugary breakfast food made of fluffy clouds and kissed with fresh strawberries that Victoria secret models used to color their lips. The donuts here are really well made and the staff is nice. PRO-TIP: If you want to get their popular items like cronuts or the croissants filled with whipped cream and strawberries then you have to plan ahead. For the cronuts, you should call in the morning to see if any are available and set them aside and they will prepare them fresh when you arrive. For the croissants, I believe they need a day's notice or if you're lucky and someone else has requested them, they'll make extra. Those two go quick so you can't really expect any left if you're calling after 11am. The other donuts they have are really great quality, I prefer them over many of the donuts at Peterson's in Escondido. Peterson's will carry some bizarre but tasty creations but Crispy's has most of your classics like maple or chocolate bars, French crullers, sprinkle, sugar bar, etc. the only downside to this place would be that they close at 4pm so if you're not a morning person, then don't expect any delicious cronuts or croissants! read more
