This modern day diner was clean and it looked like it had a lot of faithful customer base considering that the parking lot was full and it was difficult to find parking. Service was great, quick and friendly even when our waitress seemed to be very busy. (All the tables were occupied) Their food was great. Cromwell is a typical diner with a large menu. I ordered the hash and eggs. The hash was overcooked, crispy, and looked like it had been sitting for an extended period of time. The eggs were served on top of the hash. The potatoes were good but could use some seasoning to kick them up a notch. Overall, and average breakfast. I will return to try other items on the menu. This is one of my favorite diners. I feel like I'm visiting someone's home everytime I walk in. That's the way it should feel! Close to the Berlin Turnpike, not far from Middletown, Newington, Rocky Hill, it's in the middle of everywhere, for me at least and everyone else that lives in this area. I've been here for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Every meal has been comfortable and I would easily order any of it again. Chicken salad sandwich was delightful, french fries are nice and crispy, breakfast was filling, everything is just savory. Most recently, my chocolate chip pancakes were perfect and my countryside eggs benedict was amazing. It was pretty much bisuits and gravy incorporated into an eggs benedict meal. Never had it anywhere else but it's genious if you asked me. Biscuit was flaky, eggs were poached nicely, sausage gravy was nice and high in calories, just the way I like it! My girlfriend had her Sunrise Eggs Benedict, her first time having any type of eggs benedict meal and she absolutely loved it! Great first experience for her. Service is also very attentive and friendly, key factor in a diner. What a wonderful place. Our server, Tony, was great and attentive. The food was amazing. I have always judged breakfast places by how well they do their over-easy eggs, because I think it illustrates how carefully the cooks are on top of things. The eggs here were the dictionary definition of over-easy and were delicious. The entire rest of the breakfast was great as well. The bacon was crisp but not burnt, the breakfast potatoes were well seasoned and tasty I really want to try some of their later offerings. I'm a sucker for Thanksgiving dinners so I want to try their plates. I'm sure their fries are delicious as well. Highly highly recommend this place. Wish my town had a place like it read more

By far our favorite diner in CT. There is something for everyone. There is traditional comfort foods, vegetarian options, seasonal specials, healthy salads and they serve breakfast all day long! I am a fan of their French Onion Soup with a side salad. Honestly I would be fine with just a salad, as long as they have their Green Goddess dressing, it's my fav! I love the Open-Face Tuna Sandwich and the Reuben, when I'm craving the carbs. They also make a great breakfast. My son loves their pancakes, while I'm partial to the hash. My husband almost always orders the Greek Salad with chicken. The portion is huge and it comes with these little pita corners that he loves. Due to dietary restrictions he's now more of a scrambled eggs and crispy hash-browns kind of guy. Basically, there hasn't been a single visit that we'be left hungry our unsatisfied. My husband and I just went here and received the absolute rudest customer service we have ever experienced. We waited in line to be seated and were given a number, yet every other party that came in AFTER us were seated BEFORE us. As the 3rd party was being called ahead of us, we realized what was happening and returned our number and left but not before assertively telling the host that what he was doing was intentional and disrespectful. I took my son and his friend here for a birthday breakfast late on a Saturday morning and the place was hopping. I was surprised we didn't have to wait long for a seat. All three of us ordered various different pancakes and a plate of tater tots to share. This wasn't my first time here and I usually get their eggs Benedict (so good) but felt like trying one of their specials today - pumpkin chocolate chip pancakes. I asked for a short stack. The pancakes are HUGE. They fill the entire plate up. So if you ask for 2 pancakes it's like eating 6-8 normal sized ones. I also ordered apple chicken sausage on the side, also a seasonal special. They sliced sausage thin and grilled it perfectly. Everything was delicious! The wait staff here is always super nice! They always treat you like family with a bright smile on their faces. I don't know how they do it- but I always feel welcomed there. Summary - this is by far one of the best breakfast places around. But if you want to try lunch or dinner - they will not disappoint. Always a great time! Service is always fast and kind. Food is always good - I'd say a step above your average diner. There's something for everyone on the menu. My only complaint, is that it can be quite loud during peak times as the building is quite large and turns into an echo chamber. Anyone coming who may be sensitive to loud noises may want to bring headphones or earplugs, but the food and service is always on point. I'm a big fan of diners but I don't recommend this one. I ordered a coffee to drink. It was warm, not hot as coffee should be. For dinner a cup of tomato soup, also not very warm. For main course I got the Shepherds Pie. THAT was very hot but was about 90% mash potatoes and very little beef and vegetables. Not one person ever asked how things were. The only question I was asked, aside from " are you ready to order" was "did you want any dessert?" The guy at the register barely acknowledged me let alone ask how my meal was so I can only assume they don't want to know for fear they'll hear the truth. Very rarely do you get a place that serves its own real home made corned beef hash. I love good hash. I have been there twice and everyone was very pleased with his or her food. We stopped in this morning on the way up to New Hampshire. It's a beautiful diner and it's kept in immaculate condition. It can hold a lot of people, it's a big space. I had the corned beef hash and eggs and my other half had eggs over easy with pork sausage and two very large pancakes. We also had home fries. Everything was very good and we ate it all! Easy on easy off I 91. Keep this place on your list for your next breakfast. Prices were very reasonable. This is one of my favorite places to go for breakfast because they have the most amazing corn beef hash that is made super fresh daily on premises and not from a can. It's not greasy , overly salty, just has the right amount of flavor and is nothing like I've ever had before. Their biscuits and gravy are hard to pass on. I always get them to when I'm here. The biscuits are griddled in butter and smothered in a generous portion of their gravy. It's soft and crispy not dried out and flavorful. The atmosphere here is more like a modern diner. It isn't run down. The service was great. Our waitress didn't miss a beat. My only advice would be probably avoid the steak and eggs. That's what my friend got. The steaks are thin so easily they are easily over cooked. The grilled has to be hot enough to char the outside quickly and it just wasn't quite there and cooked all the way through. It wasn't my meal so I can't ding them on it. Just avoid it, it is a diner after all not a steakhouse, so don't expect that high quality of a steak. The muffin sliced in half and griddled in butter is definitely a wonderful treat of you need the carbs or actually have the room for it. It makes the muffin warm and moist inside, and crispy on the outside. Personally it's my favorite way to enjoy a muffin. You don't know what you're missing until you've had a muffin this way. It seems to come that way but if you wanna just make sure, it doesn't hurt to ask. Their coffee is strong if you like it that way, if you don't like it like that, they provide lots of cream to cut the strongness if it. Also I love a good sprite, ice cold and extra fizzy bubbly just like you would expect from McDonald's. The two star rating is for 2 reasons - 1) I ordered for biscuits and gravy and my partner ordered for chicken and waffle. My partner's plate had a strand of hair when it was served (yuck)! 2) Service was extremely poor. We were there on a late Sunday afternoon, the restaurant was not packed but the waiter who was attending to us did not seem to care enough and he left us half way thru and we were literally waiting for someone else to attend to us and bring us a take out box as well as the check. What's the most important meal of the day.......? That's right breakfast. Here at the Cromwell Diner they do breakfast right. This modern diner has some of the best pancakes you'll ever have. They're light, fluffy and full of flavor. Syrup isn't needed to make these pancakes pop. The blueberry pancakes were delicious. I tried to eat both pancakes, but they were too filling. My only gripe is that they haven't adapted to this new normal we are living in. They say that they have outdoor seating, but they don't. They have two tables that are on some sorry plot of grass. To "eat outdoors" you're supposed to get takeout then bring your own food to the tables. No bueno. The employees wears masks and they do their best to social distance the tables. There are no hand sanitizers in the tables. The only time you see a hand sanitizer is when you get your check and have to go to the front to pay. All in all it was a good place for breakfast, just make sure you practice your own social distancing and sanitary skills. read more

We went to this diner after a quick trip to Walmart nearby before heading back home. I used to go to this diner when I was younger. I will say that the memory of the place was far better than the reality. The food is okay but not great. The service was also good but not great. The building has been well maintained over the years and I commend the owners for that but I didn't find the gem that remember about it while I was there. With all that being said it's not a place that I will go out of my way to eat at in the future but wouldn't avoid it if it was the closest thing to me next time. read more

Meals came out after a short wait, we were both happy with our breakfasts. Generous portions, tasty meals, but I thought my wife's was a bit better than me. The pancakes were fluffy, excellent -- some of the best pancakes we've had at any breakfast place in the state. The peaches were fresh, not canned, and they were caramelized. In the past, we have had bad experiences at other places sometimes, when it comes to potato pancakes. Many places do not know how to make them. These however were yummy. Yes, I tried some! My dad is also a picky eater and plowed right through his. He was very pleased. The diner is large and cheery and decorated quite nicely. It did not even really feel like a traditional diner. It was more like just a family style eatery with a really big menu! They do serve breakfast at any time which is nice. And both my dad and myself agree that their coffee rocks! It was so good! And we were so tired! Coffee woke us right up. Bathrooms seemed clean which is not always the case at a diner. It just had a nice overall feel. Our server was really nice as well. This place was an 'accidental find' for us as we travelled thru the Hartford area. The restaurant is Huge, the Menu is deep, alcohol beverages are served all day. There is literally something for everyone to nosh on! Our experience was outstanding from the Host who seated us to our friendly & knowledgeable Server staff. Every employee seemed to have a great attitude. As for the Food itself, it came to the table timely and was hot/cold appropriate as well as very tasty!
