On the day of my appt I checked in 5 mins early, the receptionist sat me in the stylist chair and the stylist came out 5 mins after my appt time. 1st issue. I advised the stylist I have heat damage and damage from bleaching. The hair wash was nicely done but the actual styling was terrible. I have thinner hair so separating each thin curl was alittle strange. My curls are typically clumped together. A LOT OF HAIR SPRAY WAS USED. I walked in with silky soft hair (which she said 2x) I left out with extremely stiff & dry hair. The cut I received was a trim when I expected each curl to cut individually. 2nd issue. Then I went to check out and still charged me $175 for the service. The owner saw me sitting in the chair and saw me checking out knowing I didn't look happy and my hair looked terrible. I walked out the building feeling embarrassed as my hair looked terrible. Charging someone full price when their hair looked a complete mess is not ok. 3rd issue. I actually went home had to wash the crazy amount of hair spray out my hair, add some oil for moisture (which the stylist never used), I cut my ends and styled correctly. This was not the salon for me or for anyone who is African American or of a mixed race. I would truly appreciate a refund because I didn't learn anything from the stylist & my hair looked worse than I came in. read more

UPDATE: I appreciate your response and do have a better understanding of your point of view. I think, as a customer it would have been a better experience to perhaps have been offered the option of scheduling twice versus just saying that you don't split appointments. But I will change my rating as I believe it was more communication error than anything else. I was so excited to book at this location! I called and explained my hair texture and was recommended to book an appointment with Michaela. I tried doing so online for color and cut and wasn't able to, so I emailed them. They explained that Michaela doesn't do color but another person could do the color and cut. I explained that I was interested in getting my haircut with Michaela but would be happy to see someone else for the color. I further explained that I'd be driving in from out of town, so ideally we could find a date for back to back appointments. I have been at other salons where there is a similar situation and I just book an appointment with each person, no problem. Well apparently you have to get all of your services with the same person as they do not split services. But she doesn't do hair color so... I need to get my haircut by someone else just to get color done?? This seems so bizarre to me. I don't mind having an appointment with multiple people on the same day and I don't mind paying for 2 different services so what's the problem? Updating my review because I took another chance and went to Mercedes and got my curls cut two weeks ago. She was so sweet and knowledgeable- she had a similar curl pattern as me so I felt like she could understand what I wanted and how best to style my hair. I scoured her Instagram page first to look at all the before and after a she posts and it's clear she really knows how to cut and style curly hair. My first experience at this salon was not great but I can tell now that it was likely just that particular stylists and it doesn't look like she's there any more. I guess my advice would be to really look at each of the stylists available and determine which looks most capable of cutting your hair based on her body of work and even her curl pattern-- I truly think this matters. Curly hair takes some empathy and understanding- if you have curly hair, you've had bad cuts before, you've had someone not know how to style it, you know what it feels like to have a stylist not understand. I think this salon really works hard to cater to curly hair and I don't think my first experience there was necessarily indicative of what most people experience. II will be going back to Cross & Co for my future curly cuts. Desiree was knowledgeable and even taught me a new way to style my hair. I got my first "culy cut" at another salon, but I wasn't thrilled with the haircut, style or the products used in my hair. I got my second curly cut at Cross & Co and I was much happier with the end results. I started a complete hair detox about six months ago and started following the Curly Girl Method after DECADES of heat damage. Desiree recognized my hair journey and listened to my personal preferences. When I asked for her professional input on what I should or should not do with my hair, she offered her honest professional advice. This probably saved me from deciding on haircut that was probably not right for my hair density and texture. I liked that the salon doesn't prescribe by one "curly cut" method (i.e. deva or rezo cut), but they personalize each cut and style. For me, I wanted the opportunity to wear my hair straight now and then, because I can stretch out my curls without using heat. Therefore, a haircut that looked good with curly or wavy/straight hair was important to me. Also, I really like that the salon uses Innersense Beauty products, which are cleaner and healthier than anything I've seen other salons use. read more

Better yet, Erica was so helpful and kind. I've been on a curly girl journey for a year but she really explained everything to me in a way that made sense for my particular hair. I have given myself three quarantine cuts. The last time I got a professional supposedly "ouidad" certified haircut, I left looking like Monica from Friends when she went to the Bahamas. It was so bad I literally went home and showered and felt worse than when I went. I was super hesitant to go today, and came out absolutely fascinated. I left feeling fabulous. Victoria was still training, so Erica had some input. But the entire thing from start to finish was amazing. They were all fun to talk to and answered all my questions. They didn't try to sell me products and used the same stuff that I eventually bought because my hair has never looked so good. My curls look AMAZING. I had been following this salon for a while and saw on Instagram they were requesting models for cut and colors. I inquired and immediately began correspondence through DMs. We scheduled an appointment and I was repeatedly asked for pictures of my hair; it took me a day or two but I sent the photos. After my hair photos were sent, correspondence stopped. It took about 2-3 days to receive a response back. I was told they were not able to color my hair but they were able to cut it. I really wanted my hair colored and asked for that service alone and i was told they were unable to do coloring as a stand alone service; as it was a lengthy process. I saw all week on Instagram, the salon promoting their stylists coloring hair. On this particular day, they just posted about needing clients for coloring appointments for the following week. I asked why would they continue to promote needing clients when I was being declined? I was told their stylists were only being trained on low density or short haired clients, for coloring. I believed they were being discriminatory to thicker hair textures. As a curly hair salon, curly hair comes in all textures not just 2/3 textures, which I mentioned. I did not understand why they would only train their stylists on certain textures or why it was not mentioned online they only wanted a certain hair textured client. They of course, denied discriminating and stated they would be more specific when asking for clientele. (They have not!) All in all, I was very disappointed in this salon and how they handled me. I believe all hair is beautiful and as a hair stylist it is your job to make your client feel that way. This salon dropped the ball. read more

I have thick and course textured hair with tight curls. I have always had bad experiences going to salons and just getting a cut. I either get the hair stylists with the look of fear on their face when they see me or I get the ones that want to 'play' in my hair and still end up butchering the cut. So I've always been fearful of salons. Going into the salon I was nervous but yet excited to hear that there's FINALLY a salon out there that specializes in curly hair with all different textures! As soon as I stepped into the salon it was a relief to see that every single client and stylist (and receptionist) had curly hair! It brings a sense of comfort in knowing they all have had similar curly hair troubles. My stylist, Desiree was just so patient and understanding. As soon as I sat down in the chair she asked me what my desired hair look was and allowed me as much time as I needed to explain and show her pictures that I had saved. Just walking into this salon was a wild experience for me. I have never walked in somewhere and been surrounded by so many curly-haired people. I have fine hair that is prone to frizz which I've always hated. Cierra worked gave me a great cut, helped me manage the frizz, and kept me laughing throughout the appointment. I have never colored my hair before and Cierra helped me pick a beautiful color. Cierra taught me how to put products into my hair to minimize frizz and emphasize my curls. haircut was fine, but customer service was awful. they apparently have some glitch in their computer system where the confirmation emails that are automatically sent out have the wrong time zone. Despite the receptionist admitting this is a problem many other customers have experienced they made no effort to rectify the situation. i was blamed for being late even after I showed them the confirmation email from their salon with the incorrect time. i was told they would have to end the appointment with our finishing because I was late. the receptionist was also just over all very unprofessional. dressed in a dirty oversized sweatshirt and barely made eye contact. not the kind of treatment you expect from a place that charges $150+ for a haircut. read more

I started taking care of my hair and trying to revive the natural curls I have. Part of the process is getting a dry cut after some searching I found Erica and it was such a blessing. I don't have the tight curls but do have waves. She took the time to teach me how to wash, style my hair and diffuse to get me the best curls I've ever had. The products she uses are what many call curly girl method approved and they are a good way to get introduced to a new brand one might have not heard off.
