In this case, my brothers hands bc I had to help him lol. My brother was moving from SF back home to OC so it's not too far, but just us two and a Camry/Mazda ain't gon cut it. My bro lives on top of a stupid mountain but they were able to get up there, lift all out boxes, and do the damn thing. It took a couple days, but it was 10x less stressful and we didn't have to really lift a finger tbh. If y'all ain't getting people that are helping you food or water during a MOVE, you're doing it wrong lol. The workers were super helpful, fast, strong, and just made it easier for my brother and I. I recently helped my Aunt & Uncle use Cross Country Moving Company for a long distance move, and it was a very good overall experience. My Aunt & Uncle speak broken English so I took on helping them find movers to make life a little easier for them. From the moment I called, CCMC reps were friendly and professional. They provided me with all of the information that I needed to make an informed decision about which company to go with. Their prices were not cheap, but they did offer a white-glove service, which always comes at a price. Totally worth the convenience though especially when you're moving hoursss away! When the movers arrived, they were on-time and well organized. They took great care of packing up all furniture and other items securely into their moving truck. They used all sorts of protective stuff like blankets, pads, dollies. On arrival, my aunt happily told me that the delivery team was careful as they unloaded their belongings from the truck into their new home - even carrying heavier items up two flights of stairs! Every box was labeled, accounted for, delivered to the prospective rooms that my relatives directed to -- kitchen stuff went in the kitchen, clothes in the walk in closets, kid stuff in their rooms... Cross Country Moving Company's customer service is pleasant as well - from answering my questions via phone or emails promptly to even after the "sale".. you know, sometimes you get such a good treatment until you book a service. I am very happy to recommend them and will definitely use them again in the future. My relatives concluded that the entire process was incredibly smooth. My wife and I used Cross Country Movers to move my mother-in-law's belongings from Thousand Oaks, CA to Atlanta, GA. We had packed majority of the boxes ourselves but did have a few things left for the movers like: two TVs (55" & 32"), a bedside commode, etc. We had the delivery window (2 week period) start a couple of weeks later as the dates worked better for our schedules. All in all, everything arrived promptly. I received daily texts informing me what city the driver with our stuff was at - which gave me some comfort and ease of mind. Everyone was very courteous, professional and accomodating throughout the whole process. Our delivery arrived in the evening as expected and the delivery went smooth. Since we didn't have too much stuff, only 1 person came to unload the stuff and bring it into the house. I was slightly concerned that there weren't two individuals, but the young guy unloading/delivering our stuff was surprisingky very adapt at unloading our stuff by himself with the help of a dolly. He was careful, fast and friendly. Overall, our experience was very, very positive and easy going. We hired Cross Country Movers to help us move from LA to Chicago. Brian was very helpful and flexible throughout our conversation from the initial quote to the end process. The movers were thorough in packing our home. I was initially nervous that we would not get our belongings by the time we landed in Chicago since the delivery window can be anywhere within 18 business days of when you can first receive your belongings. But Cross Country delivered on the exact day we wanted it! They provide text updates as well for where the moving truck is located throughout the cross country drive. The unpacking movers in Chicago seemed to be in a slight rush, but I think that was partially due to the truck being parked in the alley where cars enter and exit the parking garage. They left a few pieces of furniture undone that my husband and I had to later assemble (previous items that the LA movers disassembled). They require you to pay 100% of the cost of the move up front, giving you no leverage if they screw anything up. This is a huge red flag for consumers, as indicated by the Consumer Reports moving guide (https://www.consumerreports.org/moving/how-to-choose-a-reliable-moving-company/): "A moving company shouldn't require a deposit of more than 20 percent of the estimated cost of the move..." I had been working with Victor for weeks on a quote for a full service cross-country move. We had gotten to the very end of finalizing the details when I asked about payment. They require paying 100% up front (over $10k for my move, which included packing, 6 months of storage and interstate delivery) and gave me no flexibility to pay after services were actually performed. Don't let them make you think this is a "standard" practice. The other full-service moving company I was talking with (who happens to have a better customer rating on Better Business Bureau) lets me pay upon delivery for the exact same set of services. Ben Burkic was my broker and Harry (Grewal) was my driver. I shipped my car from CA to CO. They were both very professional. Ben was very patient, getting me detailed quotes and answering all my questions promptly via emails. Having him with me was so helpful to plan out the move. He would work with my budget and give detailed advice on moving strategies. He's also very patient when I changed my plan. Overall, I felt that I could really trust him, which was huge. Harry was also great to work with, updating his progress with me and going extra miles to coordinate delivery with me. In the end I was able to have my car dropped off on the day of my arrival to colorado. I didn't lyft/uber once cause I had my car with me right away. The fee is definitely reasonable, I don't think they are operating on a wide margin. In fact, I would be weary of lower quotes than theirs which might carry higher risks of adverse events. One thing I wish they did differently is to explain the weight limit. 1. I was under the impression that the penalty would be determined on site, then I could take out a few things quickly if it's overweight. But I was not told of the penalty until the car was taken, and I didnt have the chance to get rid of some obviously heavy stuffs that I didn't care to take along anyway. 2. They didn't measure the actual weight but decided to charge me a couple hundred dollars overweight penalty. They explained how they determined it, but to me, it's still subjective. My car did look full but a lot of them aren't heavy stuff. I trust them to their honest work, and it's common to have communication issues in this process, so I will leave it as 5 stars. Just be more conservative when you leave stuff in your car and leave your gas tank 1/4 full. read more

**UPDATE** Upon hearing my issues their customer support person (Thank you Nora) reached out to offer to rectify the situation. They reimbursed me and offered claims on my potentially damaged items. I moved from Chicago to LA with my fiance and we vetted a lot of moving companies before landing on this one. The salesperson Brian was friendly and willing to price-match whatever lower prices I could find. He claimed the costs aren't always comparable because cross country movers uses one team that bring the truck across country (not true, but more on that later) . We got a decent rate for the mileage and amount of stuff we were trying to move. Plus Brian said the rate includes everything, pick up, shipping and drop-off. So we signed. Then the day before I get a text message that says 'We will arrive between the hours of 2-6pm) They arrived at 5:30, after we waited in an apartment of boxes all day so we could get going. The movers were rough with the stuff to say the least. They stack 4 boxes and ratchet strap them together and haul them onto the truck, lost a few good vinyls this way. We hit the road around 7:30pm and took about a week to get to LA. Our rep told us the truck would be en route soon as we sat in an empty new apartment for 2 weeks. When the movers finally showed up to LA they said I owed them 500 dollars to move my stuff in or they would take the truck back. I said the price was supposed to be all included. They respond with 'We aren't affiliated or related to your moving company at all. They don't pay us, you do.' Tried to call, email and text my rep and he dodged my calls (still haven't heard back) Then reluctantly agreed to pay the money since they were holding my stuff hostage. I recently moved from Southern California to the New England area. Jeff Burns helped me get a quote, coordinate, and was extremely professional during the whole adventure. For some context, I got a two week notice that I would need to move my things across the country by April, instead of a month later like I had originally planned. Within the span of 3 days, I needed to decide if I could do it and called 2 other moving companies. Jeff's quote was not only the most cost transparent, but also had the most amenities that would make coordinating my move much easier, such as: The ability to use storage at my arrival location, and 30 day free storage included on their contract (note that this was at the time of my move, in Februrary 2021). With everything that was ongoing with COVID, there was increased complexity because I was avoiding travel until I got the vaccine, and didn't have an arrival destination when I started the whole process. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY FOR A CROSS COUNTRY MOVE!!! 1. Unlike other reputable companies, they charge you PER ITEM. And they like to bury this info. Most companies charge you by the size of the move (studio, 1BR, etc.). so though they may appear cheaper, its only because they upcharge you on moving day. My quote doubled. 2. The movers are not professional. Before we even made it upstairs, they were requesting "a really good tip" 3. I let them use my bathroom, and they urinated EVERYWHERE! Seat/floor. Had to ask them to clean it so I could use my own bathroom. 4. They take forever! I packed up my own 1BR condo. All they had to do was bring the stuff downstairs. Took them 2 days... 14 hours. For a 1BR. 5. The equipment they use is nothing like the photos. They showed up with ONE sprinter van. 6. None of the movers had Drivers License so they had to wait an hour for me to make it back to my apartment to be let up, our apartment asks for proper identification before they let anyone up. So if they were to get pulled over driving my stuff around, I'd be SOL. And all my stuff would be impounded. 7. MISCOMMUNICATION. I was told my stuff would be delivered UP TO 14 business days from the pickup day. I called to check in 7 days later and my stuff hadn't been loaded onto the truck... - because the price doubled on the pickup day, I told them I'd need more time to pay the remainder, and was promised that was fine given the horrid experience I've had. Well today they called to say that they won't even be loading my stuff until it's paid. They called to ask how they can make it right, and offered a measly $130 off. This company restored my faith in customer service! Every single person I dealt with during a move from Virginia to California was stellar. There was great communication with the guy on the phone who scheduled the pick up. The two moving guys who could not have taken better care of my furniture and belongings. They treated my priceless family heirlooms as if they were there own. They arrived at the scheduled time and reached out a couple of times that morning to keep me up to date on their arrival time. You are mischaracterizing the events that took place. 1) Your response makes it seem as though we were cashing in on a simple software glitch. You indicate that "[we] insisted on getting a refund on packing services because it was on the paperwork and here we are. You were never charged for full packing services but insisted we refund the charge regardless." No, we insisted on getting a refund on packing services because WE WERE INCORRECTLY CHARGED FOR IT. Your customer service indicated as such in an email to us on August 13, 2019 and subsequently refunded the charge. 2) Your response also fails to address how Nikki overcharged us for our items contradicting our salesperson and the contract and instead explaining away discrepancies based on "software calculations" of our items' sq/cubic footage. No amount of "appropriate adjustments" to your software would fix Nikki's blatant dishonesty and poor customer service. This aspect of overcharging was also addressed in the apology email and its refund included as part of the resolution. I removed the copies of the contracts on Yelp at Cross Country's request, but I can and will repost them and the August 13, 2019 apology email so that potential customers can judge for themselves. I imagine that this would be worse exposure for you than an honest response to original review would have been. We have been honest and patient throughout this process. THESE GUYS ARE FRAUD! And all the positive reviews you see are fake. Read all the negative ones and you will know. They are NOT even a real moving company. A bunch of guys with with a phone. They will give you a very sweet deal and take the money upfront. Then the nightmare begins. A small local company comes to you. Cross Country Movers don't own anything, not even the trucks. Hence they never know where your stuff is. You can keep calling and pull your hair but they will keep telling you 'the driver will call you 24 hours before delivery' and they have no idea where the truck is or when it will arrive. We got our stuff three weeks later. Many things broken because no one is responsible; the packers are a different company, the driver different, and the delivery guys someone else. No one cares how your things are. You'd be better off finding a handyman and paying him to do the job. He'll probably break less things and keep you updated on when he's reaching. read more

UPDATE: changing from 3 stars to 4 stars Shortly after I posted, I was contacted by customer service and given a partial refund for the trouble, which was unexpected. ---------- 3 stars because the car did get there safe - but the communication was awful. I talked with Kyle, who assured me I'd be given ample notice before the driver would come to pick up the car. Swore up and down he just checked in with the driver. Wouldn't you know it, an hour later the driver called to say he was 30 minutes away (and I live an hour from the pickup area). I told him I couldn't be there in 30m so he agreed to meet me in an hour. Well, I got there an hour later and had to wait two more hours for the driver. Emailed Kyle to ask him to clear up the miscommunication and was ignored ‍ Same thing happened for the drop-off, 30 minutes notice. Not really enough time in a 3-4 day window in my opinion. I would highly recommend this moving company. Unlike many other larger names movers who outsource the local packing/truck pick up, they use all their employees and their own trucks. So they keep track of all of your belongings the entire time. They were incredibly responsive and helped us get everything lined up to move my mother from the east coast to the west coast. Where do I start? Well for starters Cross Country Movers are not even a moving company. They're only a broker which they failed to inform me of before they took my deposit of $909.00 dollars with a remaining balance of $950.00 which equals $1859.00 to move from LA to Arizona. The sales guy Kyler informed me that it would take 2-8 days for my stuff to arrive. My stuff was picked up on February 27th. I arrived in Arizona on March 1st. I called on the 5th of March to see where my stuff was. I was told that my stuff is still in California seven days after I was picked up. Another oversite on Kyler's part was not telling me that the contractor will put my stuff on an 18 wheeler and charge me $350.00 for a shuttle service to bring my stuff in addition to the $1859.00 that I was already paying. I'm on a fixed income and can't pay for the shuttle service. I told the driver that picked me up that I'm not paying anymore than the $1859.00. So now my stuff is being held hostage in a warehouse until a smaller truck can move it. I called and spoke with Cross country movers about everything and they have been less than helpful. I was told that I might have to wait 21-30 days before I get my stuff. read more

I'm currently in the process of moving with this company and I don't recommend it. Their main advantage is they're less expensive than the other companies I contacted for quotes. The disadvantage is that you get what you pay for. We're moving a 1 bedroom apartment from NJ to NM. The original quoted price was in the ballpark of $2G. In the end, we're closer to $3G. My moving coordinator was falsely confident that our belongings would be delivered in early December. We arrive in NM on Dec 1. Only after all our belongings were picked up from NJ did we learn about the 14 BUSINESS DAY WINDOW FOR DELIVERY. We're now looking at December 5-10 delivery. It's incredibly difficult to get a call or email back now that our items are in their hands. I'd say you should continue shopping around, especially if you're moving far &/or want an accurate delivery. read more

This is going to be a bit long, but please read as shipping a car is complicated, expensive and risky. Here is what I learned. Most of the companies you will contact about moving your car are brokers that contract drivers. My understanding is that they all draw from the same pool of drivers. And frankly, truck drivers are jerks. Their goal is to make as much money as possible while doing as little work for you as possible (which is particularly annoying since it's super expensive to move a car). In order to get the job done right, you need an advocate, in the same way you need a realtor to act as an advocate in a home sale. And here is why Cross Country is so great. First of all, they called me to offer a discount when they had a gap in availability, which was great. Second, I ordered a door-to-door pickup and the drivers on BOTH ENDS tried not to wrangle out of it. I called Cross Country and Jordan and Bruce made a plan with the driver to fulfill his end of the deal. When the car showed up at my end, the driver stubbornly refused to hold up his end of the deal, insisting that I meet him 20 minutes from my home, accompanied by a bunch of "mansplaining" BS about why he could not come closer (including constantly interrupting me, which really ticked me off). I could not reach Cross Country to have them intervene due to the time difference; however they reached out to me the next day with a very fair compensation offer, without even having to be asked. I found them incredibly responsive, friendly and easy to deal with, and they did a great job of advocating for me with drivers. Thus, I highly recommend them for vehicle transport if you are in need of such a service. read more

From the charming, efficient, organized and ever available Luke who organized the inventory and pick up to the marvelous team that so carefully packed my possessions and didn't let out one whimper at the difficult access (more on them later once my possessions arrive) to the marvelous trailer driver who met me at a location I had to circle on a map and then offered to drive my newly arrived car over country roads to my rental and tried to refuse a tip from me for doing so!! Everyone has been so kind, efficient, responsive, personable and respectful. The month of free storage in L.A is very helpful too! Thank you Crosscountry Movers you have so far surpassed my hopes. Questionable business practices and professionalism. Over the phone, we were given a quote in advance of our move date based on the number of rooms, furniture and other possessions in each room. The quote was arrived at after a couple of rounds of negotiating against their competition. We were moving a long distance and they scheduled availability the day before our actual move. When the movers arrived, they took physical inventory and argued that the amount of moveable items was more than what was shared over the phone. They would not begin to work until we negotiated a new price with their office. Hours went by and they took full advantage of the timing of our departure. The sales person in their office was never clear on how he arrived at the difference in pricing. He kept shifting criteria in a way that suggested to us that he himself was confused. We had to ask for clarification several times and all that he kept saying was that he could not spend the time preparing a detailed reconciliation nor could he share any level of detail In the end, we paid a material amount more than the original quote and more than the competition. We felt scammed. Fast forward to arrival date at our move destination...the two movers said that their truck was too big to drive down our long slanted driveway. So, rather than bring or rent a smaller shuttle truck, the two men spent the entire day walking furniture down the driveway. They asked us if we could order them lunch as they had not packed any. We said of course and then they ordered $56 in tacos. When hiring a moving company, make sure that you have them physically come to your home and sign off on every possession being moved.
