Marina del Rey has no shortage of good restaurants, and Dear Jane's certainly belongs in the conversation. Perched right on the marina, it offers a beautiful waterfront setting and, if you get the right seat, terrific views of the boats. Parking is easy enough: valet is $12, or you can use the public lot farther down Panay Way for a little less. Walking in, the restaurant immediately has personality. The host area almost feels like a mini art gallery, with eclectic paintings scattered around, while the bar to the right has a great, dark, old-school ambience. They also have a GREAT Happy Hour, a fact we were reminded of no fewer than three times! It runs Tuesday through Saturday from 5:30-7:00 p.m. The main dining room continues the moody, slightly quirky seafood-house feel, with the real star being the wall of windows overlooking the marina. Unfortunately, I enjoyed almost none of that view. Our table was at the bottom of the entrance ramp, and I willingly took the worst seat, leaving me with a terrific view of the front door and the backs of other diners. Sometimes being the gentleman has consequences. One completely unnecessary observation: I was not a fan of the waiter uniforms. I'm no fashion maven, but the black-and-white long-sleeve shirts gave me a strange sitcom-waiter vibe. Minor point, but I noticed it. Service overall was solid, although there was room for improvement. After a long day of golf, I was THIRSTY, and my water glass spent too much time empty. Cocktails from the bar were also a little slow at times. Speaking of cocktails, they make a good drink. I enjoyed a properly filthy Ketel One martini, although no blue cheese olives, which, in my world, is a legitimate strike. The ladies loved their lemon drops, and the Smokey Jane, a smoky riff on an Old Fashioned, was also very good. We visited during Dine LA, which offered a prix-fixe menu. Two at our table went that route and enjoyed it, with the octopus appetizer receiving especially high praise. The chicken parmesan was also called out as excellent. They do use rich/heavy sauces on food items, like the Dine LA steak option. Another small strike: substitutions. The salmon came with rice, while one person wanted mashed potatoes. Our server explained that "the chef is not a fan of substitutions." Fair enough, although apparently the chef is perfectly comfortable with you BUYING a side of mashed potatoes. Such is life. I also later realized the table bread comes with a charge. I'm old enough to remember when bread simply appeared without requiring a financial decision. Dessert was mixed. The Dine LA brownie-and-ice-cream option didn't get much love, but my wife ordered the Bananas Foster, which was outstanding and easily the dessert winner. Our server, Courtney D., was personable, did a nice job explaining the menu, and even served as our table photographer. Bonus points. Finally, I went to the restroom before leaving and discovered they were out of paper towels. BOOOO. This resulted in my longtime friend flicking his wet hands all over me, which, between two old friends, was both predictable and apparently the only logical solution. So where do I land? The evening had a few flaws, but nothing damning. Good food, good cocktails, an interesting room and, assuming you don't voluntarily sit facing the front door, a beautiful marina setting. I'm at about 3.8 stars, which in Yelp mathematics rounds nicely to 4 stars. Would I go back? Absolutely. Attention Owner/manager of Dear Janes, There is a clear reason why your review ratings are 3.5 sub-par! I took my brother, his wife and my wife out for his Birthday and our Anniversary. When I made my reservation online, I was asked if it was a special occasion, and I indicated as such! Even the hostess inquired and I told her the same. Perhaps some special little perks might be expected? Not a chance here! The service was slow and disappointing (waited 15 minutes before anyone greeted our group) and our server seemed either not to like our party, or he just dislikes his job! It was quite apparent. The guy who prepared our salads table-side was terrific and he obviously enjoys his job! Even the water guy was super friendly. The menu is quite limited with regard to fish selections, considering this is seemingly a seafood specialty restaurant. Dear Jane's also charges ten bucks for a small (un-fresh) loaf of sourdough! The best part of our dinner was the Shrimp Louie for two. The potato crusted sea bass I ordered was drenched in oily citrus dressing, which was just very odd tasting. My wife had the chicken parmesan which was decent. We ordered 2 desserts, of which our server "forgot to put in my order" (after I asked him what he recommended, which was the banana brûlée crepe). The "Birthday" dessert to my brother was a minuscule mango coconut pudding, and I commented to him, that must be the "complimentary" Birthday dessert. But of course they charged $15 for that as well! All reputable restaurants provide complimentary special occasion desserts! Common sense courtesy! $550+ for a dinner that included no appetizers and only two glasses of wine! I ate at Dear Janes when they first opened, and there was great anticipation of their success! Back then, the manager greeted our table, asked for our feedback, and was very attentive to our satisfaction! Not even close this time! There is a reason for the mediocre reviews, and the fact that this restaurant was at 50% capacity on a Saturday night. Bottom line, this restaurant is a total RIPOFF!! Icing on the cake was the $15 Valet. Our car was literally ten feet from Valet stand. Grossly inflated prices for above-average meals! I could have spent the $550 at Steak 48 or Maestros in Malibu! Went here for a birthday dinner and I would say it was just okay. The ambiance is nice, a little dark once the sun goes down and the view is alright given you're just staring at parked boats on the pier. There's no self parking and only valet for $12 even if they are literally driving your car 1 foot away from you and even if there are spots open. As for the food, I think it's highly overpriced given what you get and its quality. Pictured are the fish and chips which I think was worth it and probably the only fairly priced item other than the bouillabaisse (sorry not pictured cause I forgot). The sand dabs were kinda sad and tiny. We were also told their chips were made in house so we decided to try the salt and vinegar chips - which were tasty but they were definitely just salt chips with the idea of vinegar. We also got the wedge salad and they gave you the option to receive it cut up which was nice. But that salad was more of a side salad for one person vs. a shared salad (note that we even ordered 2). I love the happy hour menu and the regular menu isn't bad either. You must try the oysters Rockefeller, the shrimp cocktail, the yellowin appetizer, vongole, and the sourdough bread. Went to Dear Jane's yesterday for Happy Hour and had a great first experience. My only gripe was the valet only parking sitch, $12. Not crazy, and they DO take Apple Pay (points there), but I'd much rather self park. Got immediate service from the bar tender, quick check in. I was alone and eating at the bar, so easy to get a table. Otherwise, I'd recommend reservations. First thing I noticed, was the upscale feel, dope view of the marina and boats, perfect for a date. Cute artwork lined the waiting area. This was a theme throughout. Semi open kitchen in the dining room, so you can see the servers being out dishes from most seats in the house. The bar is behind a red velvet curtain, it's more like a cocktail room, speakeasy style. I dug it. Unique art work on so many walls and the music was a vibe. It was like a mix of yacht pop and "best of's" but in a good way. I remember Barry White, "My everything" and "Margaritaville", originals of highly sampled songs...all good:) Drinks: full bar, complete with a smoker for the Smokey Jane old fashioned. Generous pour of rose. Food: I ordered the fish and chips, also the burger. Burger was solid, really saucey and the yummy carmelized onions veggies were great. Came with chips... chips are homemade, but just ok, get the fries. Fish and chips were very good. Tartar sauce was super lemony and salty, out of this world flavorful. Only one piece of fish in the happy hour order, but it was fleshy and juicy. Perfect! Best part: the bartender/waiter... packaged my leftovers for me at the end! I'm so grateful to have been invited to this nice restaurant for my friend's graduation. Starting off we loved their bread and very cute fish butter. For drinks, their cocktails each had 8 or so ingredients but at the end of the day didn't have a complex flavor profile - just tasted like alcohol. Per Yelp recommendations I ordered the Trout Amandine, which was delicious. I loved the acidity of the broth it was served in, reminding me of tom yum soup. The nuts on top were a nice crust and texture too. The oyster appetizer was fresh, but the oysters are small. The brownie sundae dessert was a great way to end the meal, and they put a candle on one for the celebration. Our table near the window had a lovely view of the Marina, and service was great. Pet peeve is valet parking though with no other choice, at $12 plus credit card fee. If I paid for this meal, I'd definitely say it's expensive for what it is, which is why I give 4 stars. read more

Then saw their happy hour menu and thought it would be a good way to see what they're about for a lower price point. Still not cheap, beware. First, I loved the ambiance in the bar. Dark, moody and mellow. Had some delicious cocktails, then some apps: Oysters Rockefeller, fish and chips, trout dip and calamari. Everything is top tier quality and presentation. Would not get the trout dip again though. I was expecting a rich, smokey trout flavor but it was creamy and bland. Unlike some Yelpers, we had no issues with service. Maybe because we went at opening (5:30) on a Tuesday and my wife and I were the only people in the bar for happy hour until another person came in around 6. We will back. I had been wanting to try Dear Janes for a long time and I'm glad I did. I went at night, so unfortunately didn't get a good view of the marina, but I imagine it is beautiful during the day. The bar is beautiful, dark and crowded in the cocktails are delicious and classic. The food menu is classic American with a little twist. The trout almondine was OK. I feel like it needed a little salt and was 30 seconds overcooked. The lobster pasta was delicious and the trout dip with the Ritz crackers was fantastic. The oyster Rockefeller were WOW amazing. Presentation of all food was great. Unfortunately, our waiter was not very engaging or attentive. He brought the check without even asking if we wanted a second drink, which we thought was odd. Originally opened in September 2022, Dear Jane's is the sister restaurant of Dear John's, therefore same ownership. Ownership is on record saying: "what Dear John's is to steak, Dear Jane's will be to seafood." It's located right on the water in Marina del Rey near the boat anchorage so this restaurant has some seriously great views of the harbor filled with boats. Parking is very limited given the location so you're most likely option will be valet or a pay lot. Inside is quite large with indoor and outdoor seating, as well as a very large private bar area. It's really dark and moody on the inside and is a great place to spend a few hours. It leans more to the mature and classy side of things so it would also be a great place for a work dinner, in addition to a date spot. Our server was very polite however it did take some time for our dishes to arrive. It was quite crowded so I can't fault them too much. I started off with the Wedge Salad and really enjoyed it. It was loaded with toppings and felt that it was a good sized portion. For my entrée, I chose a classic California seafood dish, that being the Sand Dabs. It came with three which were not very large, but that is usual for Sand Dabs, however, they were packed with flavor and overall I really enjoyed it. We finished the dinner with a Passionfruit Parfait, and although I was not a huge fan of it because I don't like bitter flavors, my girlfriend loved it because she does so that could be a good dish to order if you like those flavors as well. Our experience as a party of four was disappointing from the start. Service was weak and disorganized throughout the evening. The first drink was wrong, and it took sixteen minutes plus to receive the corrected one. The waiter seemed more focused on upselling than providing actual service, which quickly became irritating. Several basic requests were ignored or repeated multiple times, like crackers and bread for the dip (asked three times), extra dressing for the salad (asked twice), and even the blue‑cheese olives for my martini, which the waiter insisted they ran out of because a big group at the bar, only for the GM to later admit the delivery never arrived. Neither the waiter nor the GM checked on our table at any point. When I finally asked the waiter if he was curious how everything was, he replied that there was "no reason to ask because I know the food was great." The entire table laughed because it wasn't. I won't bore you with a full breakdown of the food, but "adequate" is being generous. For the price point, there are far better options in the Marina. The whole operation felt unorganized, inconsistent, and indifferent to the guest experience. These small things add up, and they're exactly why I won't be returning. As frequent flyers of Dear John's, we had been meaning to try out their sister restaurant. It was mid week so getting a 7:30 reservation was fairly easy. The hostess was welcoming and upbeat. We were sat in a window facing booth which was nice. The hostess asked what kind of water we preferred and I said sparkling, but they filled our water glasses with tap. Not a big deal. The server came to take our drink order, I ordered a Tito's martini straight up and was brought a gin martini dry. I already took a sip so didn't bother sending it back. She swore she ordered Tito's; but there is a big difference between gin and vodka. Our server was a young, pretty African American gal, I want to say her name started with a B. She seemed a little anxious right off the bat to get our order, we were hoping to just enjoy our bread and beverages for a bit. When she came back a third time, we just went ahead and ordered. My boyfriend asked her opinion between the trout and sea bass, but she didn't offer a preference or recommendation, just kind of shrugged. She informed us we had to order all the food together (which we knew from dining at Dear John's), so we placed our order for apps and entrees. Food was amazing, as expected, especially the crab claws and oysters. There were only a handful of diners, but she didn't come back to check in on us for a while; we asked the busser for more water. We likely would have given five stars for food and ambiance alone if we hadn't witnessed our server in the corner scrolling through her phone, looking bored. We can tell she was not thrilled to be there, or maybe just having a bad night. She brought the handheld for us to pay the bill and we handed her $50 in cash, which she put in her pocket and said "thanks". Maybe it's because I've been in the service industry for so long and held to a higher standard that I felt service at a fine dining restaurant should be a bit more upbeat and personable. Based on location, ambiance, quality of food, and price, the customer's experience should be more than just mediocre. Bring service with a smile back. From the gorgeous view of the marina, too tier service and amazing food you cannot go wrong with a visit any day of the week. Recently stopped by for an early dinner. And when I say early we were waiting outside for them to open their doors about 15 minutes before their scheduled dinner service. I knew the you'd would be good when I saw 12 other people also waiting to get inside. The food was amazing. The seafood was fresh and you could absolutely tell that the best ingredients were used to create the dishes. At the end of the meal the check was tucked inside of a children's version of Moby Dick. Oh my gosh, thank you Jake, Chase and Cassandra for such amazing dinner! You made me feel so important, lol I love an inventive menu and this did not disappoint in the least. I had the Charcuterie of the Sea for an app. Four different types of tinned seafood, served with grilled bread, cultured butter and an amazing jalapeño veggie gardiniera. I believe I had tuna belly, Mayan octopus, mussels and anchovies in olive oil. As you can see from the picture, the presentation was well thought out. I had a really great salmon for my entree with bok choy, shiitake and lemongrass dashi. Because I walked, I cheated and ordered the Black Forest brownie sundae with a pot of lavender tea. I had a great seat so I could be nosy and watch what was going on in the open kitchen. This kitchen is one well-oiled machine. The place was so crowded but from what I saw, everything ran smoothly. It was disappointing to find entrees are served without sides and bread costs extra. ** ...Strange coincidence occurred less than 12 hours after payment for meal here. I used OpenTable app to place reservations in which I entered my personal email and phone number/ then I paid for our meal scanning credit card. Less than 12 hours later I received a notification that someone used my credit card to buy $640.00 worth of concert tickets for an August 8th concert at the Crypto auditorium through a ticket purchase/vendor app called Viagogo. I usually use apple pay to avoid card skimmers. However, I find it suspicious that this occurred. I didn't make any recent purchases or use my card for anything over the past week so the timing and location of tickets purchase is strange. Unfortunately I had to cancel my CC and have them send me a new one. I hope this didn't happen from someone at the restaurant. Wonderful place to eat. Outstanding view, friendly service and the food was perfect. We went for Thanksgiving and the place was packed. Despite being so full of people, the food was delivered with military precision and somehow felt individualized for each of us. I can't say enough good things about this place. We did notice that the crowd seemed to be mostly over 40 years old. Maybe it's just the area demographic. We were the only family there with a toddler. I recently visited this Michelin-starred restaurant for a girls' night out, eager to experience the new spot that replaced the old Chart House, where I used to dine years ago. The decor was charming and complemented by beautiful Marina views, setting a pleasant atmosphere. The hosts were welcoming, which made a great first impression. However, our experience was somewhat marred by our waiter, who seemed disengaged and gave off a negative vibe, affecting the service for our group of six. Despite this, the cocktails were enjoyable, and the food lived up to expectations. The casual decor with a water or ocean theme was nicely done. Overall, the evening was enjoyable, and I'd be willing to return to see if a different waiter might improve the service. Came here for a girl's night out to try, specially when we heard it's a Michelin starred restaurant. It was a de javu from the last time I came here many years ago when I used to live in the area ( I have moved out of the area since then) when it was still the old Chart House that has now been closed and replaced by this. Loved the decor and the Marina views. Needless to say, the place is happening, felt good upon arrival with the hosts being so welcoming. But, sadly, our waiter had the attitude of " get me out of here cause I don't like what I do" and that was felt by all of us 6 in the group. As someone who is an avid cook and food blogger, Dear Jane's was a true disappointment. The reservation was made for my husband's birthday and not once was it mentioned by staff but that part is coming. We waited at least twenty minutes before our waiter came once we were seated. He was frustrated and seemed off. When I asked if he was okay he said, yeah but I need everyone else to just relax. Kind of strange to greet a table that way but maybe he was busy. When I asked if there were any specials he said yeah, a prime rib special but gave zero details. We ordered bread (which should be free) and the sand dabs to share because I had heard so much about them. Sand dabs were okay, very light in texture but a ton of salt and butter. They were eh and not worth $40 for three very thin pieces. Our mains were sea bass, green beans and bouillabaisse which were eh. I had to ask for some pepper to season the broth and my husband's sea bass looked like a sand dab. Nobody ever asked how our meal was. I saw a man with a ponytail who looked like a manager but did not speak to any customers I saw. When our plates were cleared the server simply put dessert menus on the table. Never asked if we were interested in dessert, only an assumption to keep the table turning. When the nearly $300 bill came I took a moment to connect with the server when my husband was in the restroom. I gently said it is my husband's birthday and maybe someone could mention it? Ah no. He quickly told me they didn't give out free desserts but if I order one he will 'stick a candle in it.' Really?!?! Time to go and on our way out I saw the ponytail guy and hostess at the stand and neither said a word to us. Not even a goodbye. I was very kind to give this place 2 stars. This is the sister restaurant to Dear John's, with the focus here on seafood. The main dining room is bright and airy and overlooks boats in the marina while the bar section is dark and cozy and has a completely different feel than the main restaurant. There's public parking about three long blocks away; otherwise, you will need to use the valet. The bar gets busy during the short Happy Hour (And a Half) which is 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday. The Happy Hour menu is extensive but I'm not a math guy so I'm not sure if there are many or even any rocking deals on it. But the HH crowd is a lively and fun scene and well worth checking out before your main meal in the dining room. Personally, I could have hung in the bar all night. The camaraderie at the bar counter was great and you can order a full dinner there, if you'd like. And although I'm not actively looking, I was on high alert for Cougars. Sadly, I saw none. For what it's worth, the fish dip on the Happy Hour menu is different than the fish dip on the dinner menu. I only tried the HH dip and it was very good. The roe on top of the dip were like little adult Pop Rocks which pop in your mouth. The housemade chips were fantastic. I'm usually suspicious of specialty cocktails because the menu descriptions make them sound much better than they taste. Here, I think they are executed very well. I tried the Goodall's Grape Escape (whatever that means) which is made with mezcal, cinnamon, lime and other stuff. It was terrific. I also tried the Chef's Manhattan which was very pretty-looking and very, very strong. If you don't mind getting a DUI on the way home, I recommend this one. And don't sleep on the mocktails, if that's your jam. They offer four of them and they are also interesting and well-made. Our server was extremely witty and mostly excellent (he disappeared near the end of the meal). He offered good recommendations and was a real character. Children are welcome in the restaurant, and we saw a table with three small kids, but this really isn't a restaurant for the kiddos. There is sort of an anything goes dress code, too. Some people were dressed up for a night out on the town and others wore t-shirts and rocked their best New Balances. So, you do you. When you sit down, you will likely be asked if you want bread and butter and you will probably say "yes" without giving it a second thought. You may not know that the bread and butter costs $10. You do get an enormous loaf of sourdough bread and it is very good. But know before you go. We tried the roasted beets appetizer and my guess is we were the first ones to ever order it in this restaurant. It was actually quite delicious so if you like beets, give them a try. (It wasn't my first pick out of all the appetizers but sometimes you gotta compromise.) For the entrees, the trout amandine looked stunning but was just pretty good. The crust was delicious but the fish had very little flavor. Maybe it's just a trout thing. On the other hand, the sand dabs were buttery and delicious. Except for the capers with the sand dabs, both sauces with the fish dishes tasted exactly the same. No sides come with the meals. We tried the whipped potatoes and they were fine but nothing special and the green beans, which were pretty flavorful. The lemon trifle for dessert was light and not too sweet. It's not my favorite dessert of all time but it was good enough. Most of the food was very good. The service was also mostly very good. I loved and appreciated the attention to detail in the bar and restaurant. You can see it in the decor, the music, the menu, and even the swizzle sticks (really). The menu is interesting enough to make me want to return. The vibe of the place definitely makes me want to return. This is a fun spot. read more

Went for DineLA. We had the tuna tataki and oyster rockefeller apps. Tuna app was fresh with a good serving while oysters were tasty but small. Entrees were the stars, with the beef short rib dish being the most delectable. Shrimp scampi primavera was delicious but shrimp were a bit overcooked. Deserts left us wanting. Passion fruit and berry pavlova was very sweet while the dark chocolate brownie was dry and tough. We had two mocktails which were overly priced and tiny portion. Overall, food and drink is upscale and fresh but overpriced and underdelivered on size and quality compared to the raving reviews about this place. Ambiance is very nice and the service is top notch. There is a $12 valet charge as well, so better to make the most of the Marina and enjoy a walk before/after your meal. read more

The food quality and ambience ar places always great. The service was a minus 10. We sat at the bar. The female bartender was rude, inefficient lacked food and drink knowledge. Unless it was her first night it was so unacceptable!! She served some sort of antipasto salad to my husband when he ordered a wedge and said here is your wedge...???? I could continue to rant about her inefficiency. People at tables were begging for service and kept having to go to bar for everything. read more

As a local I really wanted to try this place and didn't want to believe all the negative reviews but sadly they are all spot on and this place ended up being a terrible experience. First, the service was just awful. We had a server who didn't seem to care or want to take care of us whatsoever. After she took our first drink order and we were forced to order everything all at once food wise she never came back to check on us until she dropped off the bill. We had to flag down other staff to get any help. The table next to us yelled at another server for being sat and waiting 35 minutes for their server to show. Why they didn't just get up and walk out baffled us. As far as food, my guest had the trout and was drowning in sauce. Absolutely soggy and disgusting. We asked if it could be put on a new plate with less sauce and a bus boy put it on one of our used appetizer plates and so she just decided to not eat it. Would have been nice to have a server to help but again, ours was too busy chatting it up at the kitchen to pay attention to us. I had the chicken parm and it was so just as bad. It tasted like food you would get from one of those crappy Italian restaurants you order from at 2am when you're drunk. Just gross. Even worse I had to pay extra for the pasta which didn't even taste fresh at all. After all that we skipped on dessert. We wanted to have another drink or two but no server so that was out. All in all I definitely won't ever go back and will be spreading the word around the neighborhood to stay away from this place. read more

From the pictures online, we expected a slightly nicer place. The bar area is so dark it's hard to see anything. The main dining room is very old & tired looking. Our sever was great, as were the bussers but once it started getting busy, we didn't see our waiter for nearly half an hour as he had tables inside (where we were) and put on the patio. At the end of the meal, the manager finally came by to clear our table and joked that we had to pour our wine ourselves. The endive salad was amazing, the shrimp cocktail average. Had the potato crusted sea bass, which others have said isn't good because it's "drowning" in sauce, but I like the sauce so it didn't bother me. We had to give our entire order up front, which seems to be a growing trend, but we like to take our time and eat at our pace, not that of the kitchen's. Even though restaurants always say they'll pace things out, we constantly feel rushed. Will not be going back anytime soon, and certainly not for a relaxing dinner with friends or colleagues since the place really isn't that nice. read more

Favorite spot in LA for upscale seafood. Never had anything that I didn't really enjoy. Love the caviar fish sticks and the custom cutting board is cute. Great seafood pastas and seafood towers as well. Everything is very fresh. Personally I can skip the tinned fish, my only note. Great interior and love sitting on the water. It's a bit of an older crowd with no frills. Service is excellent with a really knowledgeable and attentive staff. You should go. read more

Me and my siblings took my mom out to dinner for Mother's Day. Prior to seating, in our regular reservation seats, we hung out in the bar for happy hour while we waited on my brother. In the bar area we tried the Bouche fish sticks fried fish with some alcohol drinks. The food and drinks were ok. This restaurant was cute with a beautiful view, however, the service and the food were not great. First of all, when we sat at our regular table were approached by our waiter and was told we had to order all our drinks appetizers, and food at one time. He stated we could not order appetizers first and then order the food so we had to rush to figure out what we wanted for appetizers and food. Our appetizers came out within 20 minutes and the clam chowder was watery but had a decent flavor. While we ate our clam chowder our regular food which was just grilled fish and fried parmesan chicken took about an hour to come out. Which was ridiculous. Once the food finally came out my brother's food was not cooked after all that time of waiting. He ordered their famous stuffed Parmesan chicken and it was raw inside and not cooked. My mom's fish was not to her liking nor was my sister's. I ordered the sandalb fish and it was very bland. Their whipped mashed potatoes, and spinach were bland also. Their rice was good though. Their alcoholic drinks were just ok nothing to brag about. We asked for a manager due to my brother's raw food and it took the manager forever to come. Finally, the manager, Mary came to our table and asked my mom and brother did they wanted to try any other food items on the menu. My mom and brother at this point did not want anything else. The manager then advised our waiter to give each of us four free desserts for our inconvenience which took another 35 to 40 minutes to receive. I don't know if I would ever go back here. We asked for containers for our leftovers but they said they needed to wrap the food for us. They gave you a card receipt to take to the front when leaving to retrieve your leftovers. I did not like that because you can get someone else's food by mistake because it's already wrapped up and you can't see the food. The main reason I took my mom here for her special day was for the stuffed crab. They do not sell the crab anymore which was a bummer but overall, they need to add more food items to their menu change some rules, and be more attentive to customers. We had to flag any worker we saw waking up just to order more water, etc. Our waiter never came back and forth to our table throughout the night only when we ordered and food came out. The manager, Mary never came back to check on us after we complained. Not professional at all. Horrible Mother's Day dinner. We did not enjoy our experience at this restaurant. Came here for Mother's Day with my brother and sister and we was excited to try this restaurant, because it did look appealing but unfortunately, we had a bad experience. in the beginning when we first arrived, we went to the bar area for happy hour which was appeasing, and ordered there and got a couple bites and rose wine. Then we went to our seat, because our reservations was coming up and so we sat down, and as we looked at the menu, we realize that we wanted was no longer on the menu anymore. The stuffed crab or shrimp, I believe they used to have. Furthermore, we are looking at the menu to see what we want, and then our waiter comes and says that when we do order, we have to order our appetizers and entrées at one time so the order can be put in for the kitchen. I did not like honestly because I felt that since it was our first time, trying their here we wanted to look over the menu so I didn't like this because we felt rush. Secondly, the food took a while to come out and we did get our appetizers. I ordered the clam chowder which was just OK. It was not that great it was watery , and the crabcake toast which was not good not like the flavor or how they had carrots inside. Then for my entrée, I ordered the salmon and mashed potatoes for my side and that was actually just decent. However, what really made me disappointed was my brothers chicken Parmesan that he ordered that was definitely raw side. It actually made me lose my appetite, and my brother was very displeased that he had raw chicken prepared inside of his food. So we decided to ask for the manager and the manager was just nonchalant and she wanted to know if my brother wanted something else off the menu which he did not want anything off the menu, so instead, they just satisfied us with three desserts, but the bad thing about the service was that the manager never came back to check to see if we was OK or satisfied for the rest of our experience. Our waiter was very sweet and amicable and very wit. so he did make up for the other bad encounters in situations. The food is not great to me. I feel like they should have more flavor to the food and actually I think that it could be more so overrated here, but the ambience inside is nice and it's good for celebrations and a romantic date. Morning I did not like how they bag your leftover food, then give you a card from a deck to take up to the front to get your good. On the other hand, they do self parking if you have a handicap placard and they do offer valet which I believe was $12 . Overall, I will not come back to Dear Jane's. It was good to try and they do have happy hour in the bar, which is kind of cute and a nice little set up with dark lighting. Good thing the view side of the restaurant was beautiful though. Last night at Dear Jane's was delightfully romantic and the food was equally elegant. And the art stole my heart. Congrats, on the newly-minted Michelin star! Let's begin with the food: I'm vegetarian so opted for the mushroom pasta. It was incredibly delicious despite what I had read as a reference point in previous reviews. The light sauce was excellent, I'd have the same order again if I could. My date ordered the lemon sea bass which was presented in a paper bag. That was fun! And our waiters were wonderfully attentive and skilled. My water was always refilled and I needed for absolutely nothing. The oil paintings, which were abt 80 pieces lined the walls of the entry and the bar and were drop-dead- gorgeous and you feel, as if you're in a vintage art gallery. They are thoughtfully displayed with track lights to bring attention to them, in the moody dim lights of the evening ambiance. Also, the back glass "wall" of this establishment is a grand-sweeping view of the marina. Parking. There's valet, there's also self-city park down the street in Lot 11 along the docks. I pulled in, easy peezy paid, and walked a block north to Dear Jane's. At the close of the evening, leaning into midnight we walked adjacent to the harbor, with boats swaying and the water glimmering in the moonlight. So gorgeous. We came here for dinner last night. The first thing we did was head to the bar for a happy hour drink. For $12 they were very good I had a smoky, Jane and my husband had an ode to John. The bar area now has big red curtains, and dim lighting, so that it really looks like a speakeasy type of a bar. I will post the menu. You can also get food in the bar. The happy hour plates that came out definitely looked on the small side so you would want to get a couple of them and share. As for dinner, we sat out on the patio right by the water, and it was a beautiful night. I ordered the surf and turf and my husband ordered the shrimp scampi. I only have two complaints that are minor, I ordered my steak medium and it came medium well. I wasn't going to send it back as it was delicious. The stuffed twice baked potato with lobster pieces hanging out was a really nice touch. I didn't take a picture because I was so hungry. We also ordered the broccolini and it was delicious. The other thing is, we had to ask our waiter twice for bread and butter, and then we had to ask him to see a dessert menu, and then we had to ask him for the check. I don't know if he was new or just very busy but the service could've been a little tiny bit better. We did not order dessert because they only had three items and they didn't look that spectacular for a place that's nice. One was a brownie sundae and one was a lemon poppyseed cake. I don't remember what the third one was. They definitely need a pastry chef and get some upscale desserts. I think you will enjoy it here.
