Honestly, I have never been more happy in a San Francisco apartment than when I moved right up the street from Crostini & Java. I am living the dream. This is a bold claim, but they have the best breakfast sandwich I've ever had in Nob Hill (their English Breakfast sandwich) and for only $6 and change, the price can't be beat. They put a sweet Dijon sauce in it that initially didn't sound like it would be good to me, but it's absolutely delicious and really makes the sandwich shine. You have to try it yourself, trust. On drinks - their earl grey latte which is lovely. I really like that they always leave room in your to go cups so you aren't splashing boiling liquid on yourself when you take it to go. So thoughtful. I'm not a huge coffee drinker, but I've had my parents and friends exclaim how good their coffee is after trying it. Sometimes they run a deal where you get your coffee or tea for free when you buy a breakfast sandwich, and let me tell you when that happens, it's magic. The best breakfast sandwich ever AND coffee for only $6 and change?? In San Francisco?? Shut the front door. Please never change this, C&J. We love you. The cafe is small with only 1 table and limited counter seating, so it's not the easiest place to stick around and enjoy your food, but it's still well worth even taking it to go. The bathroom is large and always spotless. Service is fantastic. The owner is the nicest guy, who takes the time to make recommendations, remembers my order when I come in, and jokes about putting whiskey in your coffee sometimes (maybe I look like I need a shot haha). You can tell he takes pride in providing quality food and doesn't cut corners. We stayed in the area back in December. Stopped by this place to grab a quick breakfast,- omg, we were blown away by their food and service! It's a tiny place, limited seating, tough parking but it's all worth it for their coffee and crostini! We had avocado toast and salmon dill crostini. Sounds simple to you? The avocado/mozzarella/pesto sandwich is amazing . One of the best bites i have had thus far in SF. The bread is perfectly toasted: crispy on the outside, soft warm on the inside. Server did not know how to make coffee. First, served me regular milk instead of almond. Then burnt both my friend's cappuccino milk and my almond milk. The almond milk was possibly sour. Didn't know how to properly froth the milk in both drinks. No real mugs and plates in the place, so it's all wasteful paper cups and wrappers even if you sit down. Croissant was burnt as well. At some point another server came in but they both couldn't seem to handle the pressure of 7 customers in the place. *edit* answering owner: it is definitely possible to make mistakes every now and then. But when we first ordered the place was empty, and EVERYTHING went wrong with our order. I ended up sending the coffee back and asking for an espresso instead, which is supposed to be fool proof, and had mediocre flavor. Too many mistakes are not a mishap, they are incompetence. And yes, the picture is of my sour, burnt, soapy froth almond milk cappuccino, after a few sips. The froth was exactly this soapy when it was first served. And the guy saw we were sitting down, so even if he forgot to ask, good service would have noticed. read more

I love this place, everything about it is delicious. BUT, today I went to buy 2 small coffees with a splash of heavy cream instead of half-half. They told me there would be a charge of 75 cents for the cream. I said that can't be, 75 cents for 2 Tbls of cream. That comes out to about $60 for a half gallon of cream.
