They could do better in notifying their customers of price increases. Just recently had my home serviced and find out that my bill has increased by $10 ? I do realize that costs have risen, but it would be good business to notify your customers of price increases before the fact, not when you receive the bill. I'm very impressed with Crown and Shield and will definitely use them again in the future. I called them at 11am and explained to them my problem (dead animal on property, needed it removed). By the end of the workday, someone had come out, removed the animal, and sprayed the area down. They communicated very effectively both over the phone and via text. Thought we had subterranean termites but pretty sure they were just landing on our roof, falling through our tiles and into the house. Called up Crown and Shield, Chris came out and checked out our attic and crawl space and informed us he saw no signs of termite damage or infestation. Was expecting to get a sales pitch and up sell after being told we were termite free. Suggestions of a service package or something but nothing of the sort. He charged us a reasonable flat fee for the inspection, gave us a business card and was on his way. We plan on using their services in the near future for an ant issue due to the great response, professional demeanor and lack of unnecessary sales pitch during our last service call. read more

Charge for service mind bending- did absolutely nothing- sprayed some oil not even fully around the foundation and was told employee had no bait traps available. Also was told i get a follow up call after appointment. We received no calls at any time. Really let down by this service. Over priced for virtually nothing- and local company. These guys are Terrible! Never send the same technicians. I have a two story home, they've been here for the last few years, and don't bring a ladder or extension to get the 2nd story cobwebs so they can spray for pests. Aurora is nasty on the phone and interrupts and talks over people. They "clear cobwebs and spray" but it's "not their job" to clear the 2 spiders that were on the door frame. Complete waste of time, don't waste your money. Plenty of other pest control companies that will get the job done. I have been using Crown and Shield for many years at numerous residences and they WERE great. Recently the company was sold. The new owner told me that rather than the $45 a month I was paying for a 1 time a month 10 min spider service, the new fee was going to be $85 a month for the same service. And was I OK with that. Of course the answer was NO. I'm going to have to find someone else to work with. Peter the technician has been reliable and courteous but I can't patronize a company that treats their long standing customers this way. read more

I tried to get my house fumigated because I had termites swarming inside. I know what kind they are (drywood termites) since they are very common in this area. I was impressed with Chris on-site and Aurora back at the office. Scheduling was quick, the inspection was thorough, and while we thankfully do not appear to have termites, Chris had several recommendations to harden our home. I have used three other Sonoma County based inspectors over the last 6 years and Chris was the only one willing to go into an attic and within reason take a closer look. Previous inspectors would just stand on a ladder for 30 seconds and call it good. I'd definitely use them again. The price was reasonable and about what you'd expect to pay in terms of going rate. The company has new ownership as of a couple of years ago, with reviews from that point onwards seeming to all be positive. Chris was able to answer all my questions with patience and I may have them come back to do some pest proofing of our vents depending on price. A good experience on my end all around. read more

They have lied and over-billed my account multiple times, and refused to refund the overpayments despite conclusive proof of payment in the form of my cancelled checks with their name and account printed on the back of the check. I bought a house in foreclosure in 2009 located in Petaluma that had been sitting vacant for more than a year. Shortly after moving in, I realized that I had a mouse problem. The mice had chewed through the dishwasher waterline creating a major spill of water in my kitchen, ruining the hardwood floors. I called Crown and Shield to take look at the problem. They quoted a price to set traps, and check them on a weekly basis to eradicate the infestation. The price was fair and the service worked, I have not seen or heard a mouse since. The technician that came out for the service call also gave me advice on how to close up the areas where the rodents we're entering my house. He suggested I use spray foam in these areas to prevent future investigations. That advice was absolutely free, and works like a charm. Fast, friendly and professional. I started using the service for rodent problem in a rental property in Petaluma in early summer 2019. Problem was not resolved so I called to find out what they would do to correct it. It turns out that the business had just been sold to new owners (Aurora and Chris I think). Although they were not the people I had originally paid, they took my call, listened carefully, made an inspection appointment for a few days later, showed up on time, and emailed me results later the same day along with photos. I am really not happy with my experience with this company at all! A couple months ago we began having issues with rats coming into our garden area and eating all of our herbs/plants. Then one night before bed we heard what sounded like a rat scraping around in our crawl space below our fridge. We frantically started calling exterminators trying to get someone out immediately. Crown and Shield was the first company we got through to as they have an answering service. The following day they called us back to schedule an appointment. We decided to pay for the 6 month service where they set up boxes with bait and come to do rechecks every month or so. I took a day off work because I wanted to get them here as soon as possible and the soonest they had was on a work day. I waited from I believe 9-11am for them to show as that was the window they had given me. No one showed and when I called to figure out where they were I was told by Holly (the woman who always answers the phone) that she did not see us on the calendar. I told her my husband had booked the appointment and I knew this for fact because he was corresponding with me the whole time trying to figure out what time would be best for me. She asked if she could schedule another time and I told her no because A, I had taken the day off to deal with this and B, I was concerned about the problem getting worse in the meantime. She told me they were having trouble with their vehicles but after a bunch of back and forth between her, my husband and I she managed to get an exterminator out. Thankfully I had the whole day so I was flexible on time although I would have preferred they showed during the window they said they would. Fast forward to our recheck a couple weeks later I get a call saying they need to reschedule. I voiced my concern about this being the second time they could not initially perform the scheduled services and she cited vehicle issues for the second time. After my third appointment the exterminator that came out told me because all the boxes are outside now they can just come check on them without needing me to be home. I have since received one notice on my door saying they were here. Not an update but at least I knew they had checked on it. I should also mention that the three appointments I've had, the exterminators were curtious and seemed knowledgable so my issue is not with them. Yesterday evening we had an appointment with Comcast to come check out some issues we were having with our service. The tech had to peek into the crawl space to check on something and spotted a freshly deceased rat. He alerted me of said dead rat because he wanted to warn me that it could start to smell really bad. I called last night in hopes they could come out to deal with it given that it most likely died under our house due to the poison it consumed from their traps. They called back this morning and I missed their call as I was working. When I called back I spoke with Holly and she seemed inconvenienced and very scattered. She first seemed to almost interrogate me on Comcast coming out on a Sunday (I was shocked too to her defense LOL). She asked where my crawl space was a couple of times and I told her it was below my house. She also told me "well it could just be a carcass", to which I replied the Comcast tech said "it looked freshly dead". She asked how she could call back so I gave her my #. I never heard back so I called around 4pm. She answered and I very politely told her who I was and that I hadn't heard back. She responded very snippy "Did you listen to your voicemail?!", I said I didn't get a voicemail, and again very snippy "Oh yes you did!" so I awkwardly responded, "OK, what did the voicemail say?". She again asked me where our crawl space was, to which I replied again "It's under our house". She said "Yeah but you're in a triplex" and I said "No we're in a duplex", to clarify we do live in a town home community but we only have one attached wall. She then said she wouldn't have anyone available for at least a couple days and it would be $60 to have someone retrieve the rat from the crawl space. On one hand I'm annoyed because how many more rats are going to eat the bait, they placed, and then die under our house costing us $60 a pop to retrieve. I must note, the first tech who came out said he did not want to set up a trap under the house because if they die down there it would smell terrible. On the other hand I get that business is business. My only major gripe is Holly, maybe there truly are circumstances beyond her control but reading prior reviews leads me to believe she's the common denominator. I'm generally pretty non confrontational but She was so beyond rude to me today when I wasn't even coming at her in an aggressive manner. I will not do business with Crown and Shield any longer if I have to deal with her. My apologies on the longest yelp rant of all time, just had to put it out there! read more

Nice folk who know what they're doing. After getting some stupid money quotes from other companies to fix a pigeon problem, Jay devised a one off that did the trick very nicely. Only reason I couldn't say 5 stars is, even though the price was way way more reasonable, it seems that everything is marked up a lot, and it took a while to get things scheduled. Basically all I'm losing a star over is a couple hundred bucks and a few weeks but that's not the biggest deal in the world for getting the job done right the first time. Peter is really nice and does a good job! I would give 4 stars if there wouldnt be Holly. Everytime i call, she does not seem very friendly, also she is absolutly not able to do her job and screws up my monthly service. The very first treatment, it took almost 2 weeks till somebody came, because she put the wrong date in the calendar. For the following month, she forgot to schedule my monthly service, so i had to call and make an appointment. The third month, i didnt even know that they were coming. I found the slip behind my garbage can the next day and saw that they were at the house. I didnt receive a phone call nor my husband. When i called Holly we figured out that she wrote down a wrong phone number. Ok that happens. But she never tried to call my husbands phone, even though she had the number. Because i wasnt at the house nobody could spray the inside, apparently the outside got sprayed (idk how, the gate was locked), she wanted to send peter back to spray inside, but of course, she never did! On top of all that, exactly the same thing happened the following month, and on the bill i saw that there is still the wrong phone number, even though we had this big issue and corrected the phone number (not to forget, she also got my husbands number! Had a major ant infestation in the kitchen a few days before Christmas. Not a good time but there really never is a good time for an ant infestation! Had used Crown and Shield 4 years ago (and hadn't had any ant problems since) and gave a call. Jay came out the next morning, inspected inside and out and sprayed where needed. His motto is "it's your house but these are my ants" and to call back in five days if there were any ants present. The ants were just about gone the day after he sprayed (I was not looking forward to trying to cook around them and I'm sure our guests were happy too!) but a few lingered. Called and he came back for another spray which eliminated the ants entirely. I really appreciated the fact that C&S was so responsive and although I enjoyed Jay's professionalism and personality I hope it'll be at least another 4 years before we need him again! read more
