I came here after a funeral with a group of about 30 people. We got TONS of food... I can't even name all the dishes but I ate the beef with spicy broccoli, white rice and snow crab (?). I come here with my mom and some of our friends every couple months for dim sum on Sundays. It all happens so fast! Before we know it, we've eaten our weight in small pieces of food and we're smiling, but STUFFED. There is a great variety of food and each person at the cart is more than happy to tell you what they have and what's in it. I'm a sucker for the sticky rices (there's 2 different kinds, I've seen), the bok choy (so garlicky, so good, don't care what my breath is like after!), and the mango jello (not jello, but jello?) dessert. read more

Our tablecloth was stained with I don't know what and it got worse after that. One person in our party ordered the 'four seasons' steamed with the sauce on the side. It came with fried chicken, when we know it has always come with steamed chicken when we've ordered it before. Waiter argued that it was correct, but eventually brought steamed chicken. After 3 requests for the sauce that we requested on the side and some hot mustard, we gave up trying. The servers are rude and nasty and I strongly believe they are disgusting and the facility should be reviewed immediately by the health department. Food is okay/average but I have reasons to believe the handling of the food is a bit scary judging by the condition of the facility, mainly the toilets! The place is dusty and smelly! Imagine walking in right before you have to eat and find a pile of "you know what" in their toilets and on the floors! I complained to have the toilet cleaned but all they did was flush the toilet. One experience our family had was when they used "being too busy" to fail to serve us water. We asked repeatedly for water and we were completely ignored by the waiter. We turned to one of the bus boys to please help get some water or drink to our table, he nastily yelled, "ask your waiter!" I complained to the Manager but the Manager didn't care, either. I really like this place. I've been to this location and the Middletown one as well, for many years. The pepper corn squid is the main and only reason my family comes here. It is amazing!!! I don't have a picture because it was gone in two seconds. It is definitely our favorite item. My family moved to New Jersey 8 years ago, and this is the best restaurant in the area. The food doesn't get better! Their appetizers are delicious, from their pan brown wontons to the beef sate, and of course their entrees are delicious. Aside from the food of course, I've never been in a Chinese restaurant with such high quality service. Right when when I walk in, I am greeted by the welcoming staff and seated. I notice whenever I go to the bathroom, my napkins are folded when I come back out. My only complaint would be how busy it can get sometimes, seeing how the waiters are never off of their feet. It's always nice to have a staff that cares so much about their customers! Whenever my family and I come here for dinner, we are constantly watched and stared at by this amazing staff as we eat our food. The Chinese chips ("noodles") are the absolute best! I enjoy pouring in four packets of sugar for every cup of tea I receive. Lollipops for the kids are also a bonus. They even have the most inspirational fortune cookies! Dim sum is such comfort food. This place does the job to satisfy the craving and on the cheaper side too. Variety is average and service is poor. I understand when it's busy I'll give it leeway. However more often than not one guy just doesn't listen or tells us to ask another waiter. I've been to Crown Palace many times over the years for Dim Sum, weekday lunch specials and occasional dinner. Don't recommend dinner because overpriced and most important, not that authentic unless you order fresh seafood. Lunch specials are ok and dim sum if you eat there but avoid takeout. It's different in quality and portion I realized after the last few orders have placed this year. I don't know if they reserve the better plates for eat in and be cheap with the takeout. The noodle/fried rice dishes are fine but on many occasions, the beef ball, peppercorn squid and har gow are lacking. Peppercorn squid was all tentacles and beef balls and har gow are so small compared to other places like West Lake. See pictures. Best Chinese restaurant in the area! The food and service is always so good. Recently went in on mother's day and were still given a table and great service, despite the restaurant being packed. The menu has so many choices that you are sure to satisfy everyone at the table. The waiter was also extremely helpful by suggesting an alternate to the original dish we ordered (I can't remember which one) and his suggestion was spot on. The restaurant is very big and spacious with a lot of pretty décor. I've even been here for dim sum which was also very good. HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE !!!!!! My family was seated right away. Not extraordinarily busy. Our order was taken in a reasonable amount of time. The soups and appetizers came out relatively quickly. It was taking a long time for the dinner to arrive but I was there with my family enjoying our conversations so I didn't complain. A table near us had been seated 20 minutes after us and received their dinner while we were still waiting for ours. This was over an hour after the appetizers had come. I decided not to stay. This is a great Chinese restaurant in the area! The food is absolutely delicious, and the ambiance is nice too. We were greeted by a friendly host, who gave us the seat by the waterfall that they have outside the restaurant! The waiter said this is a great popular place to sit to look at the nice view! The service here I thought was a bit slow! The food took probably took 45 to come out! The Lunch Specials here came with a soup! I chose the egg drop soup. It was absolutely delicious with the creamy broth, and the egg mixture in the soup tasted good too! The springs rolls here were definitely nice and crispy, but I felt like they could have put a lot more vegetables. I saw a lot of mushrooms inside! I got the Tangerine Chicken! The chicken was perfectly cooked and tender. Tasted absolutely delicious! I was able to eat the entire plate! The sauce though was to me a bit starchy, but it overall tasted great! Went to Crown Palace, for Christmas, with 6 people. We had not been there in over 20 years. What a disappointment! We were seated on time based on our reservation, but that was the highlight of the evening. It took almost 30 minutes to order drinks and appetizers. The appetizers came out one by one. The drinks were just OK, nothing special to justify the price. We finally ordered dinner. After waiting almost an hour, they brought out the WRONG ORDER. My wife has a shellfish allergy and they put a plate of lobster on the table!! They proceeded to pick everything up and then served it to another table! We waited again, with the waiter telling us over and over that it was coming. I went to bathroom, big mistake. The ladies room was out of order, with everyone using the men's room. We finally got served, but what was supposed to be General Tso's was something different. The beef and broccoli took another 15 minutes. The food was mediocre at best, certainly not worth the price! Well, once again I found myself dragged here by a family member. funny thing is that the person who wanted to come here didn't stop complaining about it the last time we were here. That said, the food has sunk to an all time low. It was a Sunday afternoon and the place wasn't very busy. The few that had wonton soup all said the noodles tasted like rubber. The entrees weren't much better. I had the Grand Marnier shrimp. This has always been one of their better dishes and it was good as always. What I don't like is that when you get it, it is just a plate of shrimp and nothing else. My son who had the Grand Marnier chicken, had a good mix of broccoli in there as well. I'm sure they would be able to add a vegetable of some sort to the shrimp dish without going broke!! By the way, the chicken was overcooked and dry as a dead body. The wife had a Four Seasons type dish with lobster, chicken, pork, and beef. I tasted a piece of the lobster and expected immediate food poisoning!! It was so dry and disgusting I had to spit it out. The rest of the dish wasn't much better. This was a first for us not taking any food home because no one wanted to eat it again. As for the service, well it wasn't a busy time and you always get the feeling they are rushing you. Then, you have 3 or 4 of the wait staff standing there staring at you as you are eating!! STAY FAR, FAR, FAR, FAR, FAR AWAY!!! We're a pretty typical Chinese family who tries to save dinners out for special occasions... we came here for my sister's birthday dinner (she loves the shrimp in creamy walnut sauce dish) on a beautiful Saturday night where there were NO customers except for a few old white people and white families (no offense... but you know a chinese restaurant is in DEEP DOODOO when there are no asians to be seen). We were unfortunately served by this round-faced, annoying HUSTLER waiter who insulted our dish choices and told us that REAL CHINESE PEOPLE need to eat REAL CHINESE DISHES, otherwise we are failures as chinese people. Um... WTF?? My parents are very polite and non-confrontatoinal people and my dad used to work in the chinese restaurants as waitstaff when he first came to the US, so he never has the balls to be rude or insult any asian waitstaff in the slightest (I dunno, to show solidarity?!?). Anyway, we decided to give this idiotic waiter's recommendations a chance-- he steered my fiance away from ordering HK chicken pan fried noodles and instead recommended this more expensive Seafood E-Fu noodles with "REAL CRAB MEAT", which ended up tasting totally, completely unfresh and old and made my mom and myself feel SICK right in the restaurant... mom was numb all down her back and her arms and I felt tightness in my lower esophageal sphincter and my upper stomach. True, it could have been an overload of bad MSG byproducts (MSG is actually not shown to give any "chinese restaurant symptoms", but the byproducts do), but I have never gotten MSG-byproduct symptoms from any other restaurant so Crown Palace is definitely masking something fishy here. Anyway, after my sister and I insisted on having that dish taken away OR to bring a manager, the annoying round-faced waiter (who had no nametag... shady) the waiter came back and announced that he himself had just tried this dish and it was fine, don't worry, the dish is totally fine and fresh because he himself had just tried it. WTF? To his minimal credit, the dish was taken away and the price was deducted from our bill. As per usual in stupid chinese restaurants, the Cantonese waiters started yelling at each other in the middle of the restaurant while they ganged up in a circle around this elderly waiter and yelled at him in Cantonese repeatedly about how stupid he was to place the serving dish in this-or-that area. Ugh....... So, the 1-star is for the poor quality of all the dishes, not just the unfresh crab. Our salt-and-pepper pork, tofu casserole dishes were not great either. The only one that was fit to eat was my sister's favorite (and what we came for)... the shrimp and honey walnuts, which is hard to mess up (just cook some shrimp, add the sauce, and sprinkle walnuts...) All in all, we will NEVER come back to Crown Palace, and maybe not even for dim sum, because who knows what they put in their dim sum dishes here. Growing up on Staten Island, Crown Palace was always the go to when wanting Chinese food. I wish the same could be said about the Marlboro location, but it seems like with the lack of good Chinese restaurants around, we still always end up going back there despite knowing it's always a crapshoot. Well, maybe not after last night. All my experiences with the restaurant are based on take out. The best way for me to describe it is inconsistent. The soups are usually on point, but the main courses are usually hit or miss. Last night both were misses. A wonton in my soup had a very strange taste which is a first for me. As far as the main course goes, we had the Happy Family which is a combo of shrimp, lobster, chicken and pork mixed with Chinese vegetables. When it's on, it's delicious, but last night a few chicken and mostly the pork pieces had a stale chewy taste to them. They just didn't taste fresh and it impacted the entire dish. The amount of lobster they put in is a joke to begin with, three small pieces. Two tiny knuckle pieces which my wife had, but the one end piece of the claw that I got was so inedible that I spit it out. It was one of those meals that makes you never want to go back again and write a yelp review. Very disappointing and a total waste of money. Eventually I'm sure we'll fall back into trap and take out food from there again, because the flip side is, when the food is on from there it really is fantastic. Been here several times in the past over the course of 15 years or so. Every time, the food was pretty good, and the colors of the food were vibrant. However, went here a few days ago and immediately could tell that the food was bleh. The colors were dull, and overall, the food just tasted "off"...even the red bean soup given at the end of dinner was not sweet and had too much gelatin. The only thing good was the oranges, but then again, they don't have to cook that in order to serve it. Most likely, they must have changed chefs. For Marlboro, NJ, Crown Palace is okay. Dim sum is worth trying but it get's pretty busy on Saturdays and Sundays, so making a reservation will help. Most servers with the dim sum carts don't speak English well but will manage to describe the dim sum dishes to you in some form or another (I speak Chinese but I've eaten with people that don't understand). It's a little shady that they charge some people for tea and some not at all. If I go with my family, who know the employees well, tea is free.
