I've been going to crown pizza since I was a kid. I love their onion rings, pizza, grinders, and the baked fish. Let's talk about those onion rings. They are so thinly sliced and breaded to just the right level. I don't know how they do it but they seriously have the best onion rings I've ever had. The baked fish has a breadcrumb topping that gives it a crunch on top of the fish, so you get both textures when eating plus it just tastes good. The pizza and grinders are traditional to CT food in this area, they're just awesome. As a visitor from California, I went here as a recommendation from a local worker when I asked for a good spot to have lunch. He said, "Check out Crown Pizza!" So I did and I'm happy I went. My first visit was a simple order of fries since I already ate a large breakfast, but the fries actually impressed me. They were pillowy and not too salty like you get with most food joints. On my next visit, I went all out and ordered a Chicken Taco Pizza. The cashier and owner assisted me and they were both very friendly and helpful, especially the owner. She described the pizza to me and I had to try it. I also ordered a soda to go with my dine in meal. While I was waiting for my pizza, the owner was gracious enough to let me sample some freshly made vegetable soup at no charge. It was delicious! Just seasoned enough to have flavor but not overpowering. My soda was also refilled by one of the cashiers/servers, which I thought was terrific service. When the chicken taco pizza arrived, I was in for a pleasant treat. It looked and tasted every bit of amazing! It truly was a taco pizza, with lettuce, chicken, beans, tomatoes, sour cream, jalapenos, and taco shells (looked like Doritos) sprinkled on the top. The presentation wowed me but the pizza and its multitude of delicious flavors sealed the deal. The quality of the pizza was on par, or exceeding those made by California Pizza Kitchen. The crust was a medium texture, but firm enough to hold all the ingredients on top. I usually hate eating the crust edges of most pizzas because they are too thick or hard but this crust had a nice even consistency that made it pleasurable to consume. It was about the same consistency as pita bread, but a little thicker to support the toppings. I was full after 2-3 slices. I had to box the rest home and it became my dinner and breakfast! LOL. If I ever visit this part of Connecticut again, this will be one of the first places I'll visit to have a hearty sit down meal. read more

Very disappointed with what is happening at this facility, but I guess I'm not the only one, as the place was empty. Ever since the new owners have taken over everything has gone south. I used to order once a week with the old establishment and never had an issue. Since new ownership I have eaten there at least 10 times and have always had a bad experience. I like to support local as I am a Waterford resident but this is just awful. I will have to reconsider when ordering takeout from here from now on. So I was driving down the road. I needed a place to hide out with my friend took aconference call for business. In a sea of nothing, we see Crown Pizza. Didn't know what we were getting into. It was a long day of travel from Philadelphia on our way to Boston. Had already run through a rest stop or two. Still I was hungry. After examining the menu I decided to go with the gyro. Pretty solid for a side of the road Gyro. My wife had the spinach and mushroom pizza. Unfortunately my friend who had the conference call doesn't really love the mushrooms and couldn't try any. After devouring most of my Gyro I went in on some of itand it was pretty good I must say. The staff is friendly. Environment is clean and looks nice. Tasty pizza, really loved the onion rings too. Absolutely nothing healthy here, so don't bother trying. Pizza was hand tossed, with a very crunchy bottom- no soggy spots at all. If I had one complaint it would be about the integrity of the spice. The sauce and toppings slid off too easily, making it necessary to either wait for it to cool or reapply after serving yourself. I was very disappointed with the pizza I received. It had a very bitter sauce and wasn't really hot. I thought all the very good ratings on Yelp it would be good based on that. I ordered from here for the first time today and was blown away. First, their precautions given the current COVID-19 pandemic are the best I've seen. The woman who helped me with my order on the phone was very thorough. When I arrived, I saw the drive though window they developed and made signs for, so I pulled along side of it. I was greeted by a woman with PPE on who quickly got me my order. My debit card was then returned with a Lysol wipe, which really was a classy and compassionate added touch. The food here is top notch, always very fresh, grinders are awesome, I give it 4 instead of 5 stars because of the pizza size, the small is more like a personal pizza for one, it definately wouldn't be enough for 2 adults and its a bit pricey as well and the large is realy a medium pizza.
