Upon doing a search for the nearest dim sum restaurants to where we were staying in the North York neighborhood of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), Crown Prince Fine Dining & Banquet in the New World Plaza came up as the highest rated business. As indicated by its name, the setup was a large banquet room with white tablecloths, red seat covers, and fancy interior decor. In the lobby were art pieces of the Roman era instead of something with Asian heritage. The venue could seat at least 200+ customers. Instead of push carts, which would have been conducive in this setting, order sheets were placed at each table. Someone in the group would mark off the desired items and then hand the paper to a waitstaff member for processing. Dishes were then brought out from the kitchen on serving trays until everything was marked off as delivered. For lunch, this was what we selected... * Seafood and Pork Dumplings (Siu Mai) * Steamed Shrimp Dumplings (Har Gow) * Steamed Glutinous Rice Dumpling with Dried Scallop * Deep Fried Taro Dumplings * Pan Fried Turnip Cake * Steamed BBQ Pork Rice Noodle Roll The size of each of the steamed dumplings was remarkably large, especially for the price which was less than $5 USD per order. With four pieces inside the respective bamboo steamer, the quality and value of the Siu Mai and Har Gow were excellent. The rice noodles used to make the BBQ pork roll weren't as soft and smooth as we had hoped. That is usually one of the litmus tests when gauging the dim sum quality at a restaurant. The other three items were standard in taste and portion. Even at the end of the peak lunch hours which was when we dined, the place was nearly at 100 percent capacity. For Crown Prince Fine Dining & Banquet to be this busy was a sign that they were providing a positive dining experience. I concurred with another reviewer that mentioned the lack of pricing transparency. The menu choices were categorized into S/M/L/XL, however there was no key to translate how much each serving size cost. We still enjoyed our meal and thought it was at a four star level.

Food is good but the place felt a little old school and dirty. I've been here before years ago but haven't been back for a while. Upon entering, you get hit with some old school decor vibes. it very red and gold in here. Before getting started on the food I went to the washroom which I felt was very dirty and unkept. Even on the way there/ the little wallway. Their chairs and tables also just felt very old and dated, perhaps could benefit from a refresh. The saving factor here is their food. I think the food was quite decent, with your classics of rice rolls, chicken feet, shrimp har gows, siu mais and more. Service was okay, nothing special but also nothing to complain about. Seemed like there were mostly locals/ regulars that dine there. Overall, thought this place was okay since the food is good but the vibes were not it for me.

Been here over 20 times and this review is based on most recent visit. Food is still by far one of the best in Scarborough. For four people we spent $35 each so cost is reasonable. Larger number of dishes than most places Service used to be 3/5 but this time would be 2/5. Server asked if we wanted an item and if said no, refused to serve us. Also takes forever to flag down someone to make additional requests Atmosphere is very nice. Nice decor with some light music and noise is not super loud but not super quiet Would recommend this place for dim sum though

I haven't been to this place for several years now after moving out of the area. Just tried their dim sum again recently. They were busy as usual and decent as usual. Their BBQ pork bun, BBQ pork pastry, super big shrimp dumplings, deep fried shrimp rolls, deep fried tofu and mango puddings were all very tasty. I could hardly find any dish that was not good. The average price per person now is around $30.

We came here around 11:30AM on Family Day - our mistake - it seemed to be the busiest time of day, and we weren't seated until around 1:15PM. The waiting process seemed somewhat organized (ask for a number and you'll be slotted in sequence), but the hostess was also helping with the wait staff, so her focus wasn't always at front of house. Service was quite fast once we sat down. I particularly enjoyed their steamed dumplings and beef ribs. For four people, we spent around $120, which is reasonable for dim sum. The decor is interestingly grandiose, with large chandeliers and paintings lining each wall. I can see why this restaurant is so popular. Would potentially return to try their dinner menu (but definitely with a reservation).

Really excellent place for group dinner. The decor inside is quite over the top with pictures of Napoleon on two walls, Corinthian columns in the interior and chandeliers. Th wait staff was super attentive as well ... multiple instances of tea pouring even when we had the teapots at the table. The Peking duck was super solid, with some crunchy bits that you can put in the wrapper. The duck was cooked nicely and they also provide the duck meat and bones with a yam potato. The pumpkin seafood soup was nice; the seafood was not too tough. The lamb pot was cooked over a flame provided. The lamb pieces were succulent and accompanied by dried tofu skin with other types of accompaniments like green onion and a very flavorful broth. The lobster was really interesting; it was cooked with salty egg covering the lobster pieces and shells. In addition to providing a unique flavor, it allowed the lobster to not get overcooked. The cook on the lobster was perfect. Also really interesting was the stir fried cuttlefish and dried squid. The textures on these were really nice as well. I also appreciate that this issue was a tad spicier than many of the others. The scallops were nicely cooked, accompanied by a medley of vegetables. They were also thick as well which was much appreciated. The goose palm [feet] were really tender and doused in a gentle sauce that allowed the texture of the feet to shine. The running chicken soaked in a dried scallop brine was particularly flavorful. The meat was tender all around and the skin had nice coloration. The bok choy hearts were more ordinary but they worked well to balance out the complexity of the rest of the meal. The braised egg flat noodle was perhaps too ordinary ... the ginger and scallion flavor could have come out a bit more. The mango jello dessert, the sesame cookie, and the pumpkin sago soup were all nice sweets to end the meal.

Came here for weekend brunch. Tried a few dim sum items. The Steamed Bun with Custard & Egg Yolk was still my go-to choice here. Not only did the egg yolk add a pinch of saltiness to the custard, enriching the flavour, but the filling was abundant. It was so satisfying just looking at the filling pop right out of the bun when splitting it. Har Gow (Steamed Shrimp Dumplings) and Siu Mai (Seafood & Pork Dumplings) were great too. There was a generous amount of meat in each of the items. The steamed BBQ Pork Rice Roll had a lot of pork inside, wrapped with a thin and soft rice sheet. The sauce was the cherry on the cake. Steamed Chicken Feet were good too; the chicken feet were jellied and tasted sweet. It would be even nicer if they were less greasy. We also tried the Char Siu (BBQ Pork) plate. The pork was well-roasted, paired with sweet beans on the side. I highly recommend ordering this separate dish. The place was spacious, well-suited for wedding receptions. The interior was adorned with royal-style decor, delicate dishware indicating a Hong Kong-British style. Service was a bit better than other Cantonese restaurants. One thing a bit disappointing was that they never got back to me about my lost cap - I left it on the seat but they claimed they never found it. Food (quality, creativity, consistency) - 4/5 Drinks (quality, variety) - 3/5 Ambience (interior design, cleanliness) - 3.5/5 Service (courtesy, knowledge, timeliness) - 2.5/5 Value (quality vs. price) - 4/5 ($30-40 per person)

The dim sum was pretty good. I've been here a few times and I haven't really had any complaints. They have all the standard items too and a few specials. Everything is as you would expect from a dim sum restaurant and maybe on the upper end of good. One thing of note is their hot sauce is a bit watery but still not bad tasting. I wish they would bring back their out door seating though. It was quite nice. The interior is also great. I'm really into how some dim sum restaurants are going for the upscale French decor. Service was just average. Some were fairly polite but most had that hurried bustle that usually comes with these restaurants. It's a small area of need which I hope they could improve, though I doubt this will change. It's worth trying and a place I would, and have gone back to.

TLDR: really great service, sumptuous food, and spacious for a party We had (i think) a 9 course meal for a birthday party and we're about 20-30 people. I couldn't recall how many courses it was but I'm estimating 9! It was very well catered to us and the restaurant management were very helpful and accommodating. In terms of the food, I liked the lobster and the dimsum(not on the picture). I think we will come again for another party.

Happy Lunar New Year, Lunar New Year is coming and my family want to skip the crowd at the restaurant during Lunar New Year Eve. Therefore, we decided to order "Poon Choy" take out at the Crown Prince Fine Dining and Banquet. I have been to this place many times in the past for dim sum and dinner, so I am very confidence with their food quality. Prosperity Treasure Pot (Poon Choy) have a long history dated back in the late Song Dynasty (1279 AD), when the last Song Dynasty Emperor Zhao Bing fled to now known as Hong Kong. Poon Choy was served to the Emperor and the army. Enough of the history and back to the Poon Choy. Since there are too many ingredients inside the Poon Choy. Therefore, I will only mention the highlight items. Abalone: Abalone is always the star of the Poon Choy. Even though, the chef is not using dry Abalone which is super expensive but the Abalones were braised for a very long time until it is perfect and the favour went right inside the heart (center) of the Abalone. When following the reheat instruction correctly, the Abalones are very tender and silky smooth. You can tell the chef uses many high-quality ingredients when prepare the Abalone braise sauce. Sea Cucumber: Sea Cucumber also know as Ginseng of the Sea. It is full of collagen that help people keep looking younger. Preparing Sea Cucumber can be very difficult, as all sea cucumber are preprocessed. If the Sea Cucumbers are not well prepared, it will have some ash chemical taste and smell. The Sea Cucumbers were braised perfectly and not overcook. It still retained some bounciness texture which decent quality Sea Cucumber suppose to have. Goose feet: The Goose feet also braised for a long time until it is perfectly cooked and the favour went inside of the Goose feet. The Goose feet is very tender and silky smooth. This is very important, as Goose feet are not as expensive as Abalone and Sea Cucumber. Therefore, many chefs in low-end restaurants will skip steps and cut corners when preparing the Goose feet. Overall, this traditional Poon Choy takeout is very high quality and worth its premium price tag for those who want to try Poon Choy during Lunar New Year. The chefs preparing Poon Choy are very attention to details, even less exclusive ingredients inside tasted very good. You will be surprise our family are fighting over for fish ball instead of Abalone.

3.5 STARS My friends wanted to go for some dimsum, and we agreed to come here to Crown Prince as she loves this place. We did make reservations for 12pm, but upon arrival, our table clearly wasn't ready, and the hostess told us that we would be the first one to get a table once it opens up. We probably waited about 15-20minutes. We were pretty hungry by the time we got seated, so we ordered right away. Food took another 10 minutes to arrive and the food was hot and fresh. Most of the foods were very good, some did lack some flavours, but overall enjoyed the meal. I think we ordered 12 dishes and the bill came up to $135, which isn't bad at all.

Food was generally good. The ha gow & fun Guo were a bit thick wrapping wise but the filling was tasty. The BBQ pork puff pastry and Fung jiao were both quite good. It got busy at the end, but the service was cheerful and fairly fast. I like the slightly fancier looking ambience, reminiscent of Casa-Imperial. Washrooms were nice and clean. Surprisingly affordable as well. Would go back!

This is my second time coming to crown prince, my first time was 2 years ago in the summer just before the pandemic and honestly, nothing really stood out back then other than the fact that it was so busy. But after coming back for dim sum on a early Saturday afternoon, my impression of this place was better. It was busy but I managed to get a table for 3 without waiting. We ordered a variety of dim sum at regular prices. Chicken feet, shrimp dumpling, shiu mai, tofu pudding, sticky rice wrapped in lotus and other items. The food came promptly and all looked delicious. Shrimp dumplings were huge, deep fried taro dumplings looks crispy and golden (one of my favorite dishes). I was in Vancouver last month and had dim sum there, left a sour note for me as it was very expensive and pretty average tasting, I was really disappointed. Coming back to Toronto made me feel more thankful and excited from a price point... Haha and it just tasted better.

Bitter melon with salty egg. $11. Delicious! Crispy.

Items that I got this visit: - har gow shrimp dumplings: overall pretty good, but the wrapper was a bit thicker than I expected. Would prefer a thinning dumpling wrapper - chicken feet: excellent, very tender and flavor was great - tofu skin wrap in abalone sauce: pretty good, the meat inside was lean and well balanced with the veggies - spare ribs in black bean sauce: this was a bit of a disappointment. The ribs were a bit tough and also underseasoned. It could have used some more salt and some extra cook time. Service was fine, nothing special. The restaurant overall was pretty nice and modern. I hope to come back sometime and try some other dishes.

There were so many dishes I started losing track. LOL. I also don't know all the names of the dishes as I didn't see the menu. One of the dishes was a fried lobster. They showed the lobster to us (poor lobster) before cooking it. The lobster tasted really good but I'm not used to handling lobster in its shell. LOL. There was a pumpkin soup which I couldn't eat since it had dairy in it. Another dish was a Peking duck with rice paper wraps, cucumber & green onions. This was my favourite dish. Delicious, yummy & simple to eat. Another dish was chicken (I didn't taste that one). We also had a fried rice which was so yummy. Then there was a dish with scallops, oysters, pork & seaweed surrounding it. I tried the scallops & they were delicious. There was another duck dish but this time the duck was chopped into little pieces with some Dessert was a yogurt / jelly type of thing which I can't eat due to my dairy intolerance. Service was really great. I'm not sure if that's because I was at a table full of Chinese people though. LOL. The dishes came quickly & they just kept coming! We had tiny plates to eat from so after the lobster we got clean plates. For the fried rice we had the servers separate it into bowls for everyone. Since we couldn't finish all the food we had them wrap up the leftovers & we took it back with us. Myself & another co-worker split up the leftovers between us since no one else wanted it. Ambiance: The restaurant had some nice lunar new year decorations up. It was pretty. Located inside the Atrium on the Bay this is an easy location to get to. The location was the site of a former restaurant called Spring Rolls. It still looks the same the only thing that changed were the tables & chairs. The washrooms are downstairs in the lowest level of the restaurant. It was hard for me to get down there because my knees are really stiff & painful. It would've been nice if they had a handicap washroom on the main level. The food was delicious & service was attentive. I thought the special lunar new year meal we chose was too much food for six people. I would've been happy with dim sum. Also the washrooms being in the basement was an inconvenience for me. Those who are mobility challenged will have the same issue.

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.

The sweet and sour pork was very good, but would have liked more sauce. The pineapple fried rice was kind of bland, but when mixed with the pork it was amazing! However, the quality of the dim sums seemed to have declined since I've last been there. Makes me wonder if they've changed chefs. A few comments: Har gow- average. Siu Mai - under seasoned and a little too porky in flavour. Wo kok - I keep forgetting to use curry in this. I really don't prefer that. Char Siu rice noodle - solid. Fried pork and shrimp dumpling - not good. Steamed spinach and shrimp dumpling - slightly below average. Sesame ball with black sesame - Excellent. Fried garlic shrimp dumpling. - Dumpling itself is fine. However, the dip should be the salad dressing sauce, not just simple mayonnaise. There should be a tanginess to it.
