Crunchy's is my perfect bar. It was my favorite when I was an MSU student because of the food, beer, ambiance and staff, and after 14 years when I finally was able to return, it still is my favorite. I love the entrance. Off to the side in a dark alley, and when it's busy people have to wait outside in the cold. It's worth it and somehow builds a sense of camaraderie. Btw, parking at the metered spots on the road behind the building is free after 6. They warn you to not park at the coffee place next door. While I can't stomach a bucket of beer anymore, they still provide so many domestic and craft options at great prices. I heart northern beers so much, so to have lots of Michigan beers available is money (and of course Blue Light). The burgers are still legit and chargrilled which is key. Get the fries instead of tots. Nothing against tots, but the fries are where it's at. I pretty sure I remember the nachos being incredible, and after seeing a table where all three guests were eating them, my next trip (hopefully not 14 years from now) will include them. There's plenty going on as well, from trivia to live music to karaoke to food and drink specials, all of which makes this small joint one of my top establishments I've ever been to. Burgers were 10/10 ! Chili cheese fries were pretty good liked that they use actual chili. The tots could be better tasted like hey needed to change their frying oil. Drink was very good as well. Great place. On a whim I got a Turkey burger. It was probably the best one I've ever had. Onion rings were great, and people who worked there were really nice. The even offered us a 2nd citronella candle to put near our feet just in case the mosquitoes were out. We'll definitely head back next time we are in EL. read more

I am mixed on my review. The service was great. The special was half off pizza for the full size and I ordered a pineapple and ham pizza knowing I was going to take some home. The pizza wasn't impressive. It was slightly over cooked not bad but a little. However the burgers looked fantastic and all reviews say the crunchy burger is the way to go. I would definitely consider coming back and trying the crunchy burger. To be fair I still ate most of the pizza and it tasted good. Just nothing more special then a chain pizza. read more

Horrible! Brought the wrong order. Hardly anyone there. Always nice watching your husband eat. Bun was old and dried out. Fries were cold as I'm sure they just took the old burger off and replaced the meat/toppings. Only good thing was the specialty mustard and beer. Waitress was very kind. It is a bit odd but a staple. The food is good, just greasy college bar food with excellent burgers. They now have the impossible burger which is outstanding. Stopped here because it was walking distance from our hotel. Staff was super friendly and efficient. Started out with queso which was good. Hubby got a salad and it was good but the portion of dressing is too small for the size of the salad!! I got the bacon avocado burger. The taste is delicious. The only problem is the bun which it's served in is way too small for the size of the burger. I'd recommend a larger bun. It was very messy to eat. All in all food and service was great!! Oh Crunchy's. You do what you do and you do it well. Crunchy's is a college bar through and through. They have good bar food. The tots and junior Crunchy's burger are my go to. People love the pizza and buckets of sliders and pizza nugs. They have a good craft beer menu and your standard selection of domestic beers- that you can get in a bucket. Not like bottles of beer in a bucket. But draft beer poured directly into a mop bucket. Service is consistently good and staff are friendly. Karaoke on weekend nights can be hit or miss but it's always fun. read more

Oh Crunchy's, so many hours spent in the beat up green booths drinking copious mugs and buckets of Miller Lite, listening to bad yet enthusiastic karaoke, eating delicious pizza nugs. Truly some of my favorite memories of college are from Crunchys and it will always hold a special place in my heart. Crunchy's is a standard college bar, graffiti covers the walls, its very dimly lit, and most things hanging on the wall are either MSU or beer themed. The food is above average bar food and everything is delicious. Their pizza is criminally underrated and consists of a thin crispy square cut crust with tons of cheese and loaded with toppings (served on a lunch tray). Another favorite are the burgers which are best paired with a side of tots and a cold 25 oz mug of beer. And i would be remiss if I didn't mention pizza nugs, fried balls of dough filled with pepperoni and dusted with Parmesan cheese accompanied with ranch and marinara, order a bucket or two. Crunchy's has an eclectic craft beer list and you can almost always find something rare or unique. They also have tap takeover events with breweries pretty frequently so you can sometimes find beers that are very select/new. If you're not into craft beer you can order a Miller Lite or Labatt Blue on draft, 25 oz mugs are only 3.75, or you can opt to drink it out of a bucket with 4 of your closest friends (my waiter once told me its the equivalent to almost 30 beers!!!!!) If you're looking for a good meal and great college atmosphere Crunchy's is the place to go, its a true Michigan State institution. read more

Love this place for a beer and some bar food before games, great karaoke, or 1/2 price pizza on sundays. Their tap selection is excellent with a lot of local options as well as some more exotic styles. The food options are typical bar foods, but I would consider the quality a step above the average bar. As a vegetarian, I have found it very easy to find multiple yummy things to eat here. The interior is fairly large, and can fit some larger groups, but it does get a bit crowded, so get there early if you would like to secure a table. The other downside is that the service is really sub par. It is not uncommon to have a server say a nasty comment or completely forget about you. If you are willing to overlook the service, you will definitely enjoy your experience at Crunchy's read more

Crunchy's is kindof an east Lansing staple as I understand. Years ago when in college my husband used to go here, and on ocassion we still come here together in current times. The burgers are charred (grilled until..black spots appear). Some people dislike this, I happen to think it adds flavor (of the good kind). Now that I have given up meat I ordered a black bean burger last time we visited. It was a surprisingly good burger, the black bean mixture was well-seasoned and it even gained my stepdaughters' seal of approval. Burgers come with an option of adding MSU cheese..yum! You can choose fries, tots or Better Made's as a side. During lunch they have a $5 special; cheeseburger, fries and a pop. Not bad at all! So why three stars? Burgerwise I am (was) pretty picky. Though the char adds flavor, the actual meat lacks just that. Adding some seasoning wouldn't kill anyone, salt and pepper are magical things. Sure I can add it myself, but really - I shouldn't have to. The real kicker that knocks the starage down is the service as it leaves something to be desired, it is slow, unattentive and often rude. A bar that holds a very special place in my heart as a former MSU student, Crunchy's delivers on all fronts. Tons of taps of craft beer if that's your thing, or large quantities of cheap beer if you just want to hang out and drink a bunch. Their food is great, and you won't go wrong with their pizza or their burgers, both totally unique and well crafted. Sundays are the best - 1/2 off most beers past 8 pm, and half off pizzas all day. That means you can feed four people for around 8 dollars with a five topping pizza, and wash it down with a Michigan craft beer. I've never had a bad experience at Crunchy's. Because of its location outside of the downtown core, I usually need a reason to come here. Most recently, it was the MSU basketball game. While it was packed, we were still able to score a table. There always seems to be a special going on for food and/or drinks no matter the time of day. On a Tuesday, it was $4 tacos for 3, and $1.75 wells. The tacos weren't anything special but got the job done. We also had a side of chips/salsa. The salsa is the Garden Fresh variety made in Michigan that's my favorite. The chips, however, were pretty stale. But they were quick and willing to get us a new basket. This place is a staple of East Lansing. Whether you like it or not, you have to go at least once. They have good burgers, good sandwiches. I've gone on karaoke night a few times and it's always a blast. My absolute favorite thing to order is the southwest chicken wrap--no lettuce, add grilled pineapple.
