Very kind owners and a great spot. When I walked in today with my friend, I was greeted warmly and stood in line to get iced lattes. Despite the line, we were served fairly quickly. I tried the iced vanilla latte. Personally, it was too milky and sweet and would've preferred a stronger espresso flavor. My friend ordered an iced vanilla latte and also said the same. I was looking forward to trying out a local coffee spot in Carolina Beach, so stopped by Crush and Grind for a quick caffeine fix. I loved the mural outside and the reviews were great, so thought I'd be in for a decent experience. There were quite a few customers inside enjoying their drinks at about 2 PM, but there wasn't anybody at the counter serving customers or taking orders. I stood for several minutes hoping someone would come to the counter, but left...first time ever I've stood in line at a coffee place to order and nobody cared to take my order. I guess since it's slow season in Carolina Beach, they didn't feel the need to have attentive staff. It was all quite bizarre as it was several hours before closing time. Crush and Grind should close up shop after the summer if they don't want to attend to customers. I never thought I'd see the day, but after more than 450 Yelp reviews, this is my first one-star review for a coffee shop. Update - business owner responded quickly with an apology promising to do better, so respect them enough to bump up the score a star...mistakes happen. read more

Tasty black coffee. And if you must know, a cup of Crush and Grind's black coffee goes extremely well with a few Britt's donuts, which you will find a short walk away on the boardwalk. When we visited, there was only one person working the register, taking orders and making beverages, so the service was very slow. We got two black drip coffees and two hot chocolates, and it took almost 15 minutes! Luckily, there were some board games in the coffee shop that we could play while we waited. But also, we were by the beach, and time moves slower at the beach, and the mood is more mellow at the beach, so we took it all in stride. When we finally got our drinks, the wait proved to be worth it, because like I said, that was some tasty black coffee. Crush and Grind specializes in coffee beverages, so don't expect to find much food here. I think I saw a few baked goods in a small case, but that was it for food. However, they also have a good selection of beer and wine, including local offerings. read more

This shop was next to our hotel so we were able to stop in several times. The shop is perfect with a blend of searing, open space, outdoor seating (upstairs), small local vendor items and two coolers full of local microbrews, juices and teas. The barrista talked to us about what we like in a coffee and made suggestions. The Sea Bee was my "go to" all weekend. Silky, sweet, excellent coffee flavor. Perfect spot for a coffee shop in CB. They have beer & wine too, so it becomes a social spot at any hour! It's a bit darker in here, so a nice break from the sun when it's needed. I had an iced chai with oat milk and vanilla, plus an iced vanilla latte (with a double shot!). It was $12, so about average! Both drinks were great. Not a ton of food options, but some nice looking baked goods up front. Would recommend! read more

This is better than you would expect for a coffee shop located next to tourist heaven. Good quality brew. Got a cappuccino and it was aerated like it should be. They give you a discount if you use cash. They have wine and craft beer downstairs and upstairs is a speakeasy vibe with amazing $14 cocktails fyi. And the people who work there are nice. read more

Highly doubt that again since there's always a wait. And $7 for 8 of these bad boys is a steal. And now for the actual donut... They are hand made so you get all different shapes and sizes. These puppies are pulled fresh from the fryer and served piping hot. They're covered in glaze, but not the kind that is thick and just sticks on top. It melts into every nook and cranny of the dough becoming a part of it. That first bite is warm buttery and sweet. You get the outer crisp and the softer delicate inner taste all at once. No frills, no toppings, no tricks, nothing. Just pure perfection. If you're in the area this is a must stop bucket list type of place. Don't worry about the line or the wait, it's worth it.

This review involves both Celtic Creamery and DoorDash…read more If you order from Celtic Creamery through DoorDash, be aware. My last two orders had major issues. On 6/4, my order arrived completely melted because the ice cream had leaked through a paper lunch bag after the containers weren't properly closed. I figured "mistakes happen" and let it go. However, my most recent order (6/23) arrived with only one of the three items I paid for ( on a $45+ order). I remember not too long ago when businesses took more ownership of problems like this. I know DoorDash can issue a partial refund, but that isn't really the point. I paid for a service and tonight when something went wrong, everyone just pointed somewhere else. The part I can't get past is that LITERALLY no one could tell me where the rest of my order went. Like, hello?! The driver said there were no additional bags. So I called Celtic Creamery and the guy on the phone said they had tried to tell him there were multiple bags as the dasher left (which I have a hard time believing when the dasher was a 5 star dasher with over 1k ratings.) But if that's true...then where did the other $27 of my order go? What surprised me even more was that NO ONE offered a practical solution. If the missing items were still at the shop, I would have gladly driven over to pick them up. Even something as simple as, "We're sorry. Come pick up the rest of your order, and here's a free scoop or a small gift card for the inconvenience," would have gone a long way toward keeping me as a customer. Instead, the conversation ended with little more than an apology and no real attempt to resolve what happened. A lack of ownership is what lost my business. While DoorDash shares *some* responsibility, these issues have happened with different drivers on multiple orders from Celtic Creamery, which makes me question the store's packaging and order verification process. If a business chooses to offer delivery, orders should be packaged securely and verified before they leave the store--especially when signature desserts cost $12 or more a piece. The ice cream itself is good. Our first order was excellent, which makes these last two experiences even more disappointing. Unfortunately, repeated problems with missing items, melted deliveries, and a lack of accountability mean I won't be ordering from Celtic Creamery again.
