    Mac and cheese
    Carrie G.

Mixed feelings about Crush: it's your Anchorage usual downtown restaurant where they have several apps that are fancy and spendy: deviled eggs, oysters, Mac and cheese, and several interesting salads. I struggle with this because if we get an app, a salad to share, and two entrees it's too much food and our bill is over $100. The Mac and cheese has been on my list for awhile. It was pretty good. Honestly it's been several months since we went and it's not jogging my memory how it was so it wasn't memorable. Several other places have better. I got the cheeseburger. It was fine. Very very juicy. Standard burger nothing special. They also have a similar menu to other adjacent restaurants that have burgers mixed with Thai, mixed with two other ethnic dishes. What are they trying to do with a wide variety? Nothing else stands out to me. Also tried the crème brûlée. It was the smallest one I've ever had, they covered the top with berries and nuts, there must have been like 1/4 inch of crème brûlée. It's checked off my list and goes to the bottom.

This place was fun. The food was good. When we think to go out to eat, we're usually not thinking of going somewhere downtown. The service was fantastic and very quick. This place can get very busy so make sure you show up on time and be willing to wait a little. The place itself is very clean.

It was our last night in Alaska and the last night of a 2 week vacation. We wanted a great local meal that offered something for vegetarians and that led is to Crush. We made a same day reservation on their website...it was a Tuesday night and spots were limited and the place was packed when we arrived. We were first offered a seat in the bar area. Sometimes that's okay but it's easy to not really feel like you're actually in the restaurant so we opted to wait a little longer until a table opened up in the main dining area. Didn't take long! We started with the Rosso red wine flight...the owner is a sommelier so we wanted to entrust them with our experience. We're not wine experts and found the three offerings good enough for our tastes. My wife had the salmon special which had lots of ingredients on it including gifs, rice balls and stuffed squash all of which she liked. She found the salmon to be a little overcooked though it had a nice char on it. I got the Veggie Wellington. Our server told us this used to be a Christmastime season-only dish but it's her favorite dish and she convinced them to add it permanently to the menu. It's the only vegetarian main dish on the menu, though a number of vegetarian salads and small plates are offered including Crispy Brussels, Toasted Goat Cheese, Ravioli, Baked Mac and Cheese and Polenta. So vegetarians won't go hungry. I liked the portobello-filled wellington...the first few bites were tasty though it got rich kind of quick. It came with a side of broccolini which was overcooked...not as al dente as it should have been...or at least as I would have liked it. It's a nice place. Our server was very friendly. With limited vegetarian options in Anchorage we'd come back again and try some of the small plates we didn't get this time around.

Pupu plate was a large portion and the chashu tips were amazing. Pineapple was great as was the bone pork chop seasoned well and cooked expertly

WOW!! This food was incredible and so were the drinks. I wasn't too hungry so I got the polenta with goat cheese and mushrooms. Only complaint is that the polenta wasn't very crispy. But otherwise all of the flavors were incredible. My husband got the chicken schnitzel which he was on the fence about but he was so glad he got it. The cheesy pasta was freakin to die for and the chicken was also good. The mushroom gravy just gave the dish that extra punch it needed. The service was good. Overall a very cute place, loved the space and my husband loved the whiskey selection

Great food and service. Our waitress, Jen, was very friendly and helpful. We had salmon and halibut - both were outstanding. Would highly recommend.

I chose Crush on our recent trip to Anchorage because a local friend recommended it, and I'm so glad I did! We called ahead to make a reservation, which turned out to be wise because just after we sat down the restaurant filled up. The Crispy Brussels were AMAZING! We also enjoyed the salmon, the Pad Thai and the fry bread. Three of us split the Baked Alaska, which was also very good, although the cake at the bottom was a bit too solid. The service was fine and we could easily hear each other. I'd gladly go here again.

We were excited to try this restaurant in downtown Anchorage. It was easy to make a reservation ahead of time on Yelp. The servers were extremely nice and helpful. They were pretty packed around 6pm on a weeknight. The ambiance was nice - this would be a great date night spot. Though the pictures had looked delicious online, we found that overall everything we ordered was a bit on the heavier side, as the dishes came with lots of cream-based sauces and were salted a bit too much for our taste. We wish that the flavors had been lighter and more fresh. Overall, the food was more of a 3.5/5. What we ordered: - Miso sablefish salad: The wasabi dressing on this was a bit too spicy, even for spice-lovers like us. However, the fish was cooked well. This dish could benefit from some acidity to balance out the heavy sausage, tempura bits, and cream-based dressing. - King oyster mushroom special: This came with charred bok choy and mini popcorn. The mushrooms were great texture-wise and very succulent. However, this dish was way too salty overall, so much that we couldn't finish it. - Pan roasted halibut: The fish was slightly overcooked, making it a bit tough. However, the edamame mash with very unique and tasty. We could do without the miso cream sauce, which was a bit too much for the dish. - Stuffed chicken breast special: The potatoes that this came with were delicious and indulgent. The chicken was cooked nicely though drenched with a heavy cream-based sauce, which again we felt didn't add much to the dish and weighed it down.

Delightful ambience Excellent service Every dish we ordered was beyond delicious. The chef's imagination is crazy good.

My husband and I were wandering through Anchorage and found this fantastic spot. Crush is delightful just as a neighborhood bistro. Friendly service funky cool decor. And then there is the food. Outstanding. Creative flavor combinations. Fresh. Delicious food. Lucky day.

Other staff walked right past us without so much as a "someone will be right with you," which set a pretty uncomfortable tone right off the bat. We eventually got seated, but even with the restaurant being pretty empty it still took a while before a server showed up to the table. Our server wasn't rude or anything, but the energy was just completely flat. It felt like he could not care less about being there. Sodas got refilled once the entire night. Between being seated and appetizers, and again between appetizers and our entrees, he was basically nowhere to be found. The thing that really got me was being asked if we wanted boxes while our plates were still full and we were just sitting there having a conversation, never once offering to top off our drinks until we finally asked. It's a shame because the food really was solid and the restaurant itself has a nice warm vibe to it. ORSO clearly has a lot going for it and on a different night with more attentive service it could easily be a 4 or 5 star experience. For now it's hard to rate it higher than a 3 when the service makes what should be a really nice dinner feel like an afterthought.

We were traveling for business and trying to squeeze three people into the bar area, so we knew it might be a bit of a challenge. We eventually made it work, but service took a while to get rolling. That said, once it did start, it got really good. Our server FraniP did a great job. It took a little bit for her to engage and warm up with us, but once she did, she was attentive, friendly, and made the experience feel much more welcoming. Food-wise, we were impressed. Two of us ordered the burger and it was honestly excellent--made with a blend of ribeye and tenderloin, and you could taste the difference. Really well constructed and flavorful. I went with the mushroom soup and a Caesar salad, and both were solid choices; fresh, satisfying, and better than your average "safe" menu items. The cocktail selection was also strong, but the smoked old fashioned was way too sweet. It needed to be toned down on the sugar to let the bourbon and smoke shine through. Overall: great food, great drinks selection, and a good bar atmosphere.. just be prepared for a slower start on service during peak nights.

From the moment we arrived, every detail radiated excellence--from the impeccable service of your servers and staff, especially our waiter Keegan to the exquisite quality of the food. The meal was beyond compare, especially the special touch of having anchovy with my Caesar salad -- a detail that made it even more perfect. when I ordered my Caesar salad, I mentioned to our waiter that I really enjoyed ancho fillets in my salad. He initially stated that he wasn't sure they carry a chocolate fillets, but rather include it in the dressing. Service was sorely lacking, and staff weren't all that friendly at all. I don't require red carpet service, but the vibe was definitely more along the lines of "what do you want, order and leave us alone." Yikes. To keep things on the less expensive side, we mainly ordered from the happy hour menu, and thought we'd go tapas style, order a few things to share. Food was ok, but some of the flavors were a bit off, so a couple of items were sent back and we ordered something else instead. The crab fried rice was pretty tasty, I do recommend that. Even when we needed something (utensils or sauces), it took ages to get it--and this was often after the servers had failed to bring it with our food. This was just not a good visit overall. We opted to sit in the bar area hoping it would lead to decent service (that's usually our experience when sitting in the bar area), but NOPE. We used to have a Sullivan's in my city, and I was bummed when it closed; this location just made me sad. I don't know if the lackadaisical attitude is because they don't care about visitors they don't expect to see again or what, but a little friendliness goes a long way. I can deal with lackluster food or subpar service, but it's really hard to get both and leave feeling satisfied. $50 gift card wasted, but lesson learned. Next time we go to Alaska, we definitely won't eat here.
