I feel like this spot is under appreciated for the price and food in the Domain area. My favorite dinner spot when I'm in the area or if I have a comedy show to catch. Crú Food and Wine bar is a great spot to pregame. It's reminiscent of a wine cellar with bottles of wine and champagne decorating the dining area. Chose 4 pieces of cheese and it comes with spreads and bread which made for a good start to appetizers They had flights of wine but I went with a glass, the margarita pizza was delicious. Recently visited CRU for a boozy brunch with my girlfriends, and had such a blast! We ordered carafes of the Blood Peach Bellini and Bellini Cipriani to share. Loved these drinks! They were strong and delicious. Our server was awesome and gave us an extra round of drinks since it was my birthday! We ordered a few items to share: 1. Smoked Salmon Board - I thought this was ok but a little bit of a letdown for the steep price. Nothing special or unique that I couldn't make at home. 2. Spinach and Artichoke Gratin - loved this! Great dish to share; a nice sized portion of cheesy goodness! The flatbread it was served with was the perfect accompaniment and very fresh! 3. Cobb Salad - pretty good, the buttermilk fried chicken pieces were especially tasty! 4. Peat & Gorgonzola Pizza - only had a slice to taste. Very small and quaint establishment for a quick bite. They had a very extensive wine menu and even have wine flights. The food we had was delicious. We had the meatballs, salmon dish, black truffle pizza and ceasar salad. The menu has a lot of items you can share so we did. The pricing was also reasonable too. Our server was very attentive and the water attendant kept our glasses full from the time we sat down. My friend had to wave him off for her lol. Aside from getting the wrong flight (Pinot not merlot) in the wrong order described, I won't mention the rest here as I am happy to discuss the rest with the manager. Being in the wine industry, a nationwide well known business, I was surprised at the lack of descriptions, attention, and general carelessness of the flights served. Staff did not care but these wines are special and there is so much to share behind them. I would suggest this place on the wine alone. The wine here is fantastic and whoever the sommelier or buyer was did a fantastic job. Any flight you choose will be an adventure. This place is ok. Avocado toast was underwhelming- think the arugula needed a lot more citrus sauce to it and more seasoning on the avocado mash. The toast i felt also was dry and didn't go with it as well. The brisket hash (seems like a new menu) was actually pretty good. The meat was soft but the bread they give you on the side was just soaking in the sauce and very soggy. The chef came out later and asked our opinions so we recommended the bread be on the side since it was too soggy to eat he just said thats our preference. The sign was not illuminated; dining at night posed an issue when you can't find the restaurant nor entry. CRU should really consider renovating the frontage for a more appealing and attention grabbing appearance. Stayed optimistic as to the restaurant appeared upbeat. Busy with people and the aroma of food peaked my interest. Unfortunately the ADHD waiter failed to remember some folks orders, drinks, refills and cutlery. Two items I salivated over were out (Wygu Meatballs and Tomato Soup & Grilled Cheese ...how does a wine bar run out of CHEESE and BREAD for goodness sake??). I have been to this location of CRU many times and it is a very special place. It is a bit of enjoying the decadence of a charcuterie and a glass of very good bubbles, a dash of being in an environment where the chaos of The Domain fades away and you're in a comfy hushed place and a ton of being waited on by people who seem to enjoy what they're doing and have no pretense about sharing their knowledge of wine and food. The wine bar is nestled between the chaos of a Starbucks, a play area for kids and a large restaurant that has changed names twice in a few years. But it's location and it's decor with comfy benches, couches and shelves of wine bottles make the place feel like you've warped out of the Tesla driving millennial scene into a comfortable pocket of Northern France or California where the only worries are how the grapes taste and how fresh the food is. The wine menu changes regularly and you can buy by the glass, flight or bottle. Take advantage of the regular specials and you can get deep discounts on buying bottles of wine and champagne. Their food is always delicious and the brunch is a no-waiting, walk-in gem. And the aforementioned charcuterie is always a special treat. I love this place for it's character, quality and service. I wish I was exaggerating when I tell you that their "bread basket" was straight from a factory . They used canned lobster and rice-a-roni for one of their risotto dishes. It's only appropriate that I point out the number one thing I noticed from this restaurant...our server did not seem to understand the importance of keeping her mask over her nose. Four different times I noticed her mask only covering her mouth, leaving her nose completely exposed. You would think that after months of practicing safety and social distancing that a waitress in a COVID hot spot would know how to wear a mask. I do not believe she was wearing her mask incorrectly on purpose, but it is something that I noticed and several others noticed, too. Both were ok not really great. I'm no expert and actually enjoy red wine cold but should pilot nor be served cold? The half chicken was very mediocre. First of all, it was 2 skinless boneless breasts and not a "1/2 chicken with breast, thigh, leg, wing. The Brussel sprouts were very undercooked and sauce was very watery. They were nice people but we noticed that we were having to wait longer for our wine, appetizers and then we had to ask if we could order an entree! There were people who came in after us and received MUCH faster, and more attentive service. Although we had a reservation it appeared as if we were treated poorly because of outward appearances or the assumption that we might not pay or tip well. We were eating there before heading to a show and their lack of speed caused us to be late for the opening. The food was absolutely worth it. We ordered wine flights 11 & 6,the American cheese plate, calamari, lamb chops and scallops. I liked one of my wine samples so much that I flagged the waiter down and asked for a full glass. He brought me a small glass and I had to ask for the larger, more elegant glasses that they were using to serve wine to every other guest.
