While Vishnu may be the Hindu Supreme diety Svayam Bhagavan of Vaishnavism, C-Town's Vishnu is the King of the Seafood section--move aside Poseidon. C-town offer just enough of everything you may need to make it a one-stop-shop. Plenty of organic items including organic poultry. Now if they bring in organic meats I'll be all set. read more

I've gone to this place a few times since it was Bravo. Usually, my experience is fine except for the time when a cashier got annoyed with me for not bringing my own shopping bag even though I bought one from her! Today I returned with my small collapsable shopping cart only to learn that this store has instituted a "no personal shopping cart" policy and was told to store my cart and use the ones provided. Those carts are twice the size of mine and will cause even more congestion in the already crowded space between the counters and the exit doors. I've had my cart stolen at a local laundromat, so I'm very careful about leaving it unattended in case someone makes a "mistake." No, thanks. I have other choices and so do your customers. read more

Thanks Victor. Him and the rest of the staff are very friendly and helpful. I've asked to exchange things and have returned an expired product and he's always nice about it. A bottle of olive oil cracked while setting my groceries down at home, I called and they set another one (on sale) aside for me. When I went in, I told Victor about it and he asked if I had the receipt. I didn't expect them to think they should replace it for me, and was fine with paying for it again. It definitely feels like your neighborhood supermarket. The young cashiers are very fast as well. 5 stars for the young guy with the glasses and big gelled hair worn in every possible way. Just-Because. One time the lady behind me in line grabbed his arm and compared watches with him. Their produce is very fresh, especially like their yams (not too big, not too small), kale, butternut squash, different heads of lettuces, basil, sweet carrots with the stalks still on, beets, wedges of watermelon. Sometimes there's good sales on produce. Ground beef is always fresh, their ground turkey and organic chicken run out pretty fast. I always see a lot of people buying seafood, they all seem to know the seafood guy. This is one of the few supermarkets where I've found Cabot's horseradish and tomato and basil cheeses! Good selection of organic ice cream also. I've discovered the best homemade bread also: Medina State Inc. Brooklyn, NY "All Natural Multigrain" trust me. toast it with butter. Check for mold though, one time I had a problem and had to return the whole loaf. I was thinking about giving them 3 stars because recently they started carrying Ronnybrook yogurt. I've had to return it twice within 2 weeks ($1.99- compared to $1.25 at Union Square). They were not set to expire for 3 weeks and there was full grown mold on top of the yogurt. He even let me open a new yogurt there, and there was STILL mold on the new one from the very back of the fridge. PS. And don't go on Mondays for the bottle return. Apparently this is the day, after the weekend when the local bottle collectors go, with their filled shopping carts. read more

I like Bravo a lot. I don't come here often, because it's not quite as convenient as a few other places that are closer to my apartment. However, if I'm in the neighborhood and am in need of food or beer, I stop here. They have pretty much everything you might want. They have a large beer selection and a good deli. The produce section is pretty fantastic as well. Their International Food section is extensive, and I always find new things to try when I'm in here. It is always clean and the employees are always working really hard. I always get a thank you when checking out, which is a HUGE plus! When I moved to New York, one thing I loathed was food shopping. The tiny aisles. The sweet, but very slow and cumbersome grandmas. $6 for a box of cereal. Old bruised apples. Dirty floors. But no more! Because when I moved to Queens, lo and behold is a supermarket I looooove! First and foremost, I gotta have me some fresh produce. From collard greens to tomatoes to pears to poblanos to cactus fruit - its all fresh. Its beautiful raw food in amazing variety and glory. And its not nearly as expensive as some neighboring stores. This alone is enough to keep me coming here. Second is the international products. Soy sauce, arborio rice, lentils, gnocchi, mai fun, pureed tropical fruits, beans, pesto - you name it. It may take a little hunting - but they almost always have it. (I'd love them to switch their tofu brands though!) Third, meats and cheeses have a great selection and value. I buy tons of meat in bulk and i love trying new things from the dairy section. The seafood section is small but will most likely have what you need. There is also a deli and olive bar and a spot for baked goods. Frozen foods has your basics. And the store is all logically laid out and clean. The manager (in a suit and usually right in front of the tomato display) is super nice, helpful, and fast! I love that he's always on the job and keeps this place humming. read more

I have a newfound respect for Bravo's beer selection. This is the only place in the city my buddy could find Maine Brewing Company's Lunch IPA (according to the internet, at least). Like any good friend would, I trekked over here to grab one or four of them, and we took them to a nearby BYOB spot and went nuts. Beware though, the Lunch IPA is not in the cold section, so you might have to resign yourself to drinking a six-pack of Bell's while it chills in the walk-in of whatever restaurant you choose. I came here for the beer selection, and it did not disappoint! In fact, as soon as I walked in, I saw beers I have been looking for all over the city, like special Dogfish Head brews. Then I decided to walk down the rest of the aisles. I left with amazing cheese, dumplings, horchata, and good-looking produce. I am envious that I do not live closer to this supermarket. I'm normally a fan of this place but they haven't been showing much effort to ensure they're not becoming a coronavirus hotbed. No social distancing or occupancy limits are being enforced. I went two days ago and the cashiers have finally started wearing masks (although one was wearing it around her neck... worse than doing nothing). It's crowded, people aren't paying attention to the people around them (customers and employees), and management doesn't seem to be doing anything to mitigate it. I want to be able to go here but it literally feels like I'm risking my life right now. But they have those big neon signs out front telling you to wash your hands so I guess it's all good? The one positive: they tend to have the basics in stock. Probably because anyone with a modicum of sense sees what a mess it is and gtfo. Please, management! Do something so that I can feel safe shopping here again. Otherwise I'm not coming back, now or ever. read more

Great find in our neighborhood. They have fresh produce and fresh seafood. Talk to the staff too ms out the best days to buy which (it escapes me at the moment). People are pretty friendly and you see a nice cross section of the neighborhood there. They also offer delivery of you purchase too much. I moved right across Bravo a few months ago, so I shop here on a regular basis especially for the produce. The store changed their name to CTown, but there hasn't been any noticeable difference as far as I can tell. I actually asked the cashiers too if there were going to be any changes, because I frequent this place so much. The products are fairly priced and has an appropriate selection for a medium-size grocery. I get their fresh salmon filets usually for about $10.99 a pound, but they have weekly specials every now and then on their meats and seafood. They also have a deli that sells actually pretty reasonably priced sandwiches and wraps, and surprisingly tasty too. The best part of it though is undeniably the manager in the suit. When I first moved here, I really needed a screwdriver to build ikea furniture (my small electric drill broke), but the manager informed me that they don't carry them. Instead, he offered me the store-owned one and just asked that I return it whenever I was done with it. I borrowed it for 2 weeks, but the store has won my loyalty ever since. Talk about great customer service, and what a great welcome to the neighborhood. read more

I agree with some other commentators here, great store generally but apparently extremely lax when it comes to managing the safety of their staff and customers during the coronavirus pandemic. I was there today and also around a week ago - both times it was very busy, impossible to practice social distancing, and staff were even brushing past me whilst at the register. Please please have some sort of occupancy limit and make it safe for people to shop there. I would like to continue shopping at this store but right now it's a health hazard. read more

I find it completely unprofessional we cannot use our own bags in NYC during a global pandemic. There is wipes in the store but they are HAND WIPES not meant to disinfect surfaces. The manager was kind about informing me but I will never be back, how disrespectful to NYC in general and people who are just trying to stay as safe as possible. a very good ctown supermarket in astoria that carrys everything thing you expect from a supermarket with a bit of international items available as well. not the biggest supermarket and some shelves are crammed with stuff but place is organized, clean and well stocked from a to z. all depts are well represented here especially foods , veggies , deli and the rest of the basic market needs . got four bottled of extra virgin olive oil from tunisia which was on sale for 5.99 each and a few dozen organic large eggs for 6 bucks a carton. what turned into a quick visit for a few things turned into a 30 minute visit for more then a few things and them some. no wait on line as every cashier section was open and the cashiers move quickly. also found some sweets from italy which will cause me to gain a few pounds but jelly filled chocolate wafers are hard to resist. overall a bit crammed and cluttered in a few sections of this ctown supermarket but worth it for a visit here and there. read more

The place is always filthy . They don't even make the effort to fix the broken lights so you walk in the store and it's almost dark. Refrigerator and Floors are continually dirty, the roasted chicken I bought was probably expired - through all of it after the first bite. Covered...you get the idea). If you don't think these qualities make a grocery store awesome, slap slap slap. **Why great? The store is always clean and this should be the standard in all stores, but unfortunately that's not the case. But what makes this place GREAT, GREAT is their delivery service, which is FREEE with no minimum limit! Annnnd the price of the items are the same as the in-store price. Only downfall is there's no list of items to choose from; the order is taken over the phone, so you need to know the name of what you want. Delivery is made within an hour too! read more

I'm still having major issues with their dairy section. Every time I'm in there, I find entire shelves full of very expired product. Every time I show the manager, he promises it won't happen again and that he'll be more on top of it. I'm only showing him to HELP him. I'm trying to help my neighbors so they don't get diarrhea from old yogurt. Yet they continue to leave out products that are weeks and MONTHS expired. I just don't get it. It's a shame, too...because the rest of the market is pretty tip top. I prefer most sections to other Supermarkets in Astoria. I just wish they'd be more responsible with quality control. I lived across the street from Bravo for 3 years so I used to go there a lot. Most supermarkets in Astoria - even the good ones - have one drawback or another: impossibly crowded/hard to navigate (Berry Fresh), mediocre/lacking things (Key Food), or occasionally terrifying (Pathmark, Trade Fair). While Bravo is also on the small side, it is clean, organized, and packs a lot of value for its size. The produce section, while not huge, has a very good variety and quality. They have a fish section that has all the basics and a good butcher selection, and again, the quality is top notch. I think what really sets Bravo apart is the international selection. Most grocery stores that have a lot of ethnic food tend to lack more traditional products, and/or the ethnic food is a lot of packaged crap. Bravo has plenty of "normal" aisles while still carrying high quality food from faraway lands. Plus, I love Häagen-Dazs mango sorbet, and for some reason this is the only place to find it besides Pathmark...and who wants to go all the way down Northern Boulevard? Despite all this, I try not to throw around 5 star reviews, but I actually gave it to Bravo for the service - something you wouldn't expect to matter at a supermarket. Everyone working there is friendly and has a positive attitude. I actually got to know Victor, the manager there too. He wears a suit every day and runs all over the store trying to help people..he obviously takes a lot of pride in what he does. I actually take people here when they visit from Brooklyn & Manhattan. ("Look! Aisles big enough for THREE people! And a whole aisle of BEER. Isn't that cool?!") There's 4 supermarkets reasonably close to my apartment, but I always choose Bravo because 1) It doesn't smell like cat pee (Associated) 2) If I'm too lazy to go to a fruit stand, the produce is reasonably fresh 3) great selection of vegetarian and organic foodstuffs. 4) Cash back at registers. Also, I once dropped a dozen eggs in a slo-mo incident of embarrassing proportions. Everyone was very nice about it. And they didn't charge me for the replacement. Sigh. read more

My first impression of this place wasn't the best-- the organic mixed greens I had bought were thoroughly wilted. I did go back, however, after I realized that the keyfood I frequented had a very limited selection. Then I realized that their produce section is so awesome, you don't HAVE to buy them boxed! I often buy the kale and eat kale salad for a week or two.... and things seem to materialize when I wish for them. The other week I was looking for brussel sprouts and went home sad. I passed by this place before and was skeptical prior to reading the reviews. Inside, a treasure trove of food awaits you in Astoria. It is clean and well organized, in stark contrast to most other groceries nearby. I tend to buy simple ingredients when it's just for myself, yet they still can be hard to find all in one place. Here's a portion of my random bachelor shopping list: Organic blue chips - Garden of Eatin', $3 Guacamole - Calavo Fiesta, $4 Mayo with olive oil - Hellmann's, $2.50 Japanese rice (5 lb) - Kokuho, $8.50 Buffalo (1 lb) - Ground for $6, steaks for $8 Naan - Fabulous Flats, 4 fresh loaves for $5 I was surprised to check everything off my list at Bravo since Trade Fair on 30th Ave does not stock the last three items. I'll definitely be back! However, I should note that Trade Fair still wins out when it comes to their spice selection, which is nearly unbeatable for the price. read more

A little while back, in the foulest heat of this summer, I was having a mojito party. I went in search fresh limes. My corner deli had them at two for a dollar. A dollar at Astoria Fruit & Vegetable could buy you four. I bought them on sale at Bravo for EIGHT for a dollar - and they were larger and fresher than anywhere else! Without a doubt, Bravo the best place to buy groceries in the whole borough. The prices are fairly average for an urban supermarket, but it beats the hell out of overpriced corner delis and bodegas - plus there are frequent generous sales and offers. What really sets Bravo apart from the crowd is selection. I'm a bit of a kitchen mad scientist, and I've never failed to find even the most obscure ingredients there. Because of this diversity of foods, the shoppers in this store are a real microcosm of Astoria. There are Greek families buying bulk olive oil and lamb, abuelitas pushing carts full of Goya beans and tamales, hipsters stocking up on fair-trade peanut butter and Annie's pasta, even British ex-pats craving HP Sauce and McVitie's biscuits. The staff are cheerful, informed, and professional, and the manager (he's the dark-haired man in a suit always bustling around the aisles) has an encyclopedic knowledge of ingredients. It's sparkling clean and well-lit, which is sadly more than I can say for most NYC grocery stores. However, with all this overflowing selection, the aisles can get pretty tight and narrow, especially during peak shopping hours. The packed layout sometimes necessitates a long hunt for certain items - their spice selection is split among 4 distinct areas of the store, with no clear reasoning behind it. The crown jewel, however, is the unparalleled craft beer selection. I've never seen so many interesting microbrews in one place - and I'm from Colorado! I'm fortunate enough to live a block away from this cornucopia, but I strongly recommend those living farther afield to make the trip - it's worth it! read more

My eyes, my eyes! When Bravo opened up this place had such blight lighting I needed sunglass! Okay, so I assume this Bravo is the famous chain in Queenz - this is THE best Bravo I've been to. Great selecton of cheeze, beers...okay so I only bought a few things only. It seems most foods are new and rolate quickly (*unlike other Bravo locations...) People working there seem helpful and know what they are doing. I also like the fact they carry oilve oil and they are CHEAP! Thanks Bravo! I am worried in the current state of our economy that Bravo will suffer - they must have at least 5 people on staff whose only job is to turn all of the cans, jars & boxes so they line up perfectly straight on the shelves - what if they have to let them go to cut costs? No joke, I swear they use a protractor or compass or something to stack the cans just so (why am I referencing all of the middle school math tools I can think of?). I love Bravo. I go out of my way to take the R sometimes just so I have an excuse to go there. I strategically buy about 20 lbs of groceries & balance them between 2 bags to get in a little workout on my way home to compensate for the copious amounts of cheese purchased at Bravo I eat once I walk in my door. Bravo is not your average supermarket--it's got some high quality items, GREAT International aisle, good produce with fresh herbs, a great cheese selection, and fresh coffee beans for the grinding. I've been able to find almost everything I need or want here, and the manager is very friendly and listens to requests for items. If you want a place for organic foods--come here! If you're doing a wine and cheese party-- you've got cheese, sausages, pate, crackers, and fruit all high quality, and all here. When I go shopping - Bravo's the first place I choose. read more

This is a great place to come to if you're looking for hard-to-find spices, specific types of rice, or yucca (for some reason, they have tons of it in various forms--maybe they know something I don't?). They've got the regular stuff that other supermarkets have, too, although I've noticed their stock isn't always consistent. I shop there all the time because it's the best place in the area. Their pricing is kind of wonky, though. Some stuff is ridiculously overpriced (their produce, by the way, which isn't all organic, is more expensive than the organic place I go to, and the apples always look mealy), while other stuff is ok. It definitely beats what I had in Manhattan, though. The only thing that I can't stand, like someone else pointed out, is that often their dairy products are expired. I didn't notice anything that was months out of date, but I did notice some things that had expired four or five days before I got there. I've also noticed that with their pre-packaged sausages--unfortunately I didn't notice that until I'd already bought a pack, though. The store itself is always clean, but some of the employees can be a little rude--generally the guys stocking the shelves. Everyone at the registers has always been really great. read more

My favorite supermarket in the neighborhood. I'm here almost everyday picking up one or two things and do my weekly shopping on Fridays. Produce is fresh, meat is fresh, shelves are always stocked. The deli offerings are fresh, as is the dairy section. They always have great sales on yogurts, however not so much on ice cream. I never have a problem with finding anything and if I do Victor will always walk you to the exact spot. Wonderful staff from the management to the cashiers. read more

I love this grocery store so much!! They just remodeled it and it looks fantastic! I was here earlier today to go shopping to buy some food for my Keto diet I'm doing again and I was looking for this "sugar substitute" called Xylitol that I use to buy here and I couldn't find it so I asked the manager and he said they didn't have it but if I show him which one he will order it for me. Talk about great customer service! This place is great!! The manager here is really on top of everything and knows exactly where everything is. Bravo is one of my favorite supermarkets in Queens. The prices are excellent and selection is varied. The staff is always friendly, helping to make the shopping experience comfortable. Everything is remarkably clean. My brother works at a Waldbaum's in Bayside, and he was very impressed by this Bravo. Since I moved to 30th Avenue, I now go to Bravo and take the Q101 to get home. It's worth it even though there's a Key Food a block from my apartment. read more

Great supermarket in my area. Decent selection at the fresh seafood section, Boar's Head deli counter, and international aisle. Seafood guy with the glasses is super helpful and nice. There is a bottle and can redemption machine outside the building on 35th street that needs signed authorization by a manager inside before cashing. Make sure you have lots of time to spare if you decide to go. Lots of old people with their full carts of recyclables line up here daily. Prices are not extraordinarily cheap, but they do have a good selection and I've always found everything I've ever needed. They keep mostly in-season fruits though. Small organic section in the front. I was impressed when I saw they have their own olive oil dispenser that you can refill for a reduced price. I never used it myself but it's a great opportunity for the thrifty. They have a member card that gives you discounts on products every so often, as labeled in the aisles. The thanksgiving turkey points didn't automatically accumulate on my account last season but I probably didn't spend enough money anyway. I don't believe there are any other perks like coupons or money back for the member cards. Sometimes the cashiers scan the in house member card for you anyways if you don't have one. read more
