Rice was a little soggy (but it was on the house!) Crispy pork was yummy as always.

Having had both the malatang and the mala xiang guo here, I can confidently say I prefer the latter. Nestled in a rather unassuming plaza (right next to Taning, which they seem to have some sort of partnership with), Cuanye is a solid spot with a good variety of ingredients to choose from. I ended up ordering the mild pork bone broth while my friend went with the spicy. To be honest though, they ended up tasting pretty similar, so if you're debating between the two, I wouldn't stress too much over the spice level. For the price point and selection, Cuanye is a good option to keep in your rotation. Nothing we ordered was particularly mind-blowing, but it scratched the mala itch and left us satisfied.

I've tried a lot of malatang spots around the Bay, and Cuanyue stands out for its broth. The soup was rich, flavorful, and had a really nice depth without being overly heavy. It's easily one of the better broths I've had. The ingredients are pretty standard for a malatang spot, but everything was fresh and cooked well. I also appreciated the little packets of tengjiao oil they provide. They add a bright, citrusy numbing flavor that takes the soup up another level and lets you adjust it to your taste. Overall, it's a great place if you're craving a comforting bowl of malatang. I'll definitely be back for the broth alone.

Malatang spot in Sunnyvale! Went here for dinner on a Sunday night. They weren't super busy but more people were coming in due to it being close to dinner time. I love malatang because you get to choose what you want to put in it (veggies, noodles, meat, etc) and choose the soup base. It's definitely a comfort food. It's based on per lb (weight) of the bowl that you fill up with all the things you want. It came out fast! and its so much food that I had to pack a leftover container.

I like that it's right next to Taning. The noodle variety is different here than YGF, Malatown, etc. The mild is a lot spicier compared to other places. Had a bit of a kick to it ... Overall I enjoyed this and I would go back if I'm in the area.

If I lived nearby, I would come here every week. It's THAT good, especially the malatang & TANING next door combo. First of all, that peelable mantou (steamed bun) had crack in it or something...SOOO fluffy and warm that I was seriously debating ordering another one. I know it's really just a novelty of concept, but it was insanely satisfying peeling all the layers away. I was so impressed by my tangy tomato broth...I've never experienced such a rich tomato flavor in the US. It's like they use tomatoes from China or something idk. The malatang ingredients are very fresh and they have basically everything you could want in hotpot. Amazinggg meal. Be prepared to wait.

So excited to see a new malatang spot open up in the bay area because I've been really enjoying malatang recently. And this place was actually SO GOOD. I feel like usually all malatang spots are relatively similar, and nothing stands out THAT much. Same selection of toppings, same quality, same broth, etc. But this place actually stood out to me because their toppings seemed a lot more fresh and the bone broth wasn't as oily. It felt light. The sliced beef seemed a lot more lean than most malatang places I've been to before. I also really liked the fortune tofu stuffed with roe which I feel like I have never seen at other malatang spots. Granted it was very new at the time I went, the exterior was so clean and cute for a malatang place. AND they give you an adorable apron so you don't splash broth on your clothes which is so smart. I need this at every restaurant!! We went on a Monday lunch, and it wasn't busy at all!

Choices are great and the ingredients are fresh. I love the fresh fish and pork belly. The veggies are so crispy and we do have lots of choice. I love the fibers noddle. Although what I thought was udon noodles came out clear so I can't really say it's udon since it was so slippery. Great to have shellfish with the shell on also. I chose the bone beef broth mild. And it was perfect. The make your own sauce is a nice touch.

I think I ordered the wrong thing. The dry mix had too many sesame seeds and corn nuts, which overpowered my whole palette tbh. Wished I had ordered the soup broth instead. I got to sample my friend's beef broth (medium) and it was pretty good. She even shared with me some of her broth so I can use for my bowl. I still like YGF malatang more because of the flavors and offerings. I need to come back here to give it another shot. Some key notes is that this place gets crowded and tight spaces. The line to get your toppings is too close to the tables and kinda awkward. Same with the sauce bar. When we went they didn't restock as much instant noodles so when it was time for me to get some, there was barely any. Staff were polite and nice. Decent portions and pricing but wasn't satisfying for me. This dish was waaaay too nutty for me. The sesame sauce on the side didn't help. I'll stick with the chili oils.

My new favorite malatang restaurant! I like the flavor of the beef bone broth, a decent variety of items to add to your both, good sauces and the interior is modern and nice. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Standard service! My friends and I arrived around 7pm on a Friday and it was pretty busy but the line moved quickly and we did not have to wait to be seated. They have a good variety of veggies, noodles but I noticed they only have a few options of meat compared to Malatown in the Milpitas plaza which is why I gave it stars. They do have seafood though. I filled my bowl with all the goodies and then chose medium spicy beef bone broth. The broth is flavorful and tastes pretty similar to Malatown's. I like that they have Szechuan peppercorn oil as an option as the sauce bar since I love numbing spice. My bowl was so good! I love that Taning is right next door if you want to grab a refreshing drink. I would totally come back to Cuanyue.

Cuanyue is one of the latest hot pot locations to open in Sunnyvale. It seems to be a chain in other countries! Parking is highly available. The shop is extremely clean and orderly. There's plenty of ingredients to choose from. There's so many more ingredients than other hot pot locations! Service is quick and seamless. They are also super friendly! I like how the store don't charge you for the weight of the actual bowl. The tangy tomato flavor wasn't spicy even at the mild level. With all the choices, I'll be back to try all the other ingredients since they aren't available elsewhere.

I wanted to update my review because I did end up coming back and had a much better experience this time around. When I visited again, they were constantly restocking the topping bar, which made a huge difference compared to my last visit. The broth was flavorful again and had the rich taste I was originally expecting from a good malatang spot. The indoor seating situation is still a bit limited, but after coming back, I realized there's probably not much they can do given the size of the restaurant and how popular it's becoming. I still think the sauce bar could use fresher chilis, and I'd love to see more topping options added over time, but overall the food and service were noticeably better this visit. I'll definitely continue coming back.

A memorable experience, to say the least. Mei (or May, if I'm spelling it correctly) was our primary server, and she was attentive, friendly, and genuinely kind throughout our visit. The food matched the service. The broth was flavorful, comforting, and reasonably priced, which is always appreciated. My only small nitpick is that I wish they offered more topping options, such as taro and regular instant noodles instead of only the green instant noodles. I must say the sauce bar is incredible and has unique options such as the Szechuan peppercorn oil, which you don't typically see! We also appreciated the fact the restaurant kept up to being clean, I noticed the restroom had constant check-in schedules and also I appreciate they give us disposal bibs so the oil doesnt get on our clothes. Overall, a great experience with excellent service and tasty food. I'd happily come back again.

As a family we enjoy malatang even though we don't eat a lot of varieties of meat. This place can be called tiny. The food station is maintained well. For a person like me who eats only chicken, a few varieties of seafood and veggies, the options weren't many at all. But, I was there for the soup! We loaded up our bowls with whatever we could eat, got it weighed and picked the spicy broth for it to be cooked in. Bowls came out within a few minutes and they were humongous. The spice in the soup came from Sichuan peppers. The soup was delicious and frankly didn't need any extra seasoning from the sauce bar. What was bothersome were the Sichuan peppers. I don't mind their flavor but the whole peppers in the soup kept overwhelming the palate every few spoonfuls. I infact fished out all the peppers to allow me to enjoy the soup in peace. I recommend avoiding the corn cob, it doesn't get fully cooked in the soup.

PARKING: decent parking, it's around other places so it is in a lot but if it is a busy time it would be pretty hard to try and get a space. PLACE: fairly big, but not too big, would have to combine a few chairs and tables to accommodate to bigger parties, the sauces and everything are already on the table, so are the dishes as well. FOOD: We got the ultra, Tom Yum Tonkotsu & Shiro Miso Soymilk - Tom Yum tasted really good and it paired well with the meat, the Shiro Miso just tasted more like miso soup than actual soy milk mixed in. American Wagyu & Black Angus Beef Toro - I feel like the American Wagyu was a little too fatty for my liking, or it could be the other way around lol, I kind of don't remember which one was which but one had amazing marbling that melted in your mouth. We also got lychee beer, which was super good, didn't even taste like beer. We had like 3 glasses which is funny because we aren't drinkers but it was so delicious. I recommend any of their fruity beers. Edamame - don't really recommend, comes cold and some pieces were not really good.

I've been to this location a few times and it's usually a pretty pleasant time but recently the…read moreservice and broth quality has taken a bit of a turn. We came in with a party of six for dinner on a Monday evening when the restaurant was relatively quiet, with only a few other tables occupied. We asked if it would be possible to combine tables so our group could order multiple broths and enjoy the meal together because sharing one pot for a party of 6 gets a little crowded, but the request was denied despite there appearing to be plenty of available space. As the meal progressed, our broth became extremely cloudy and thick from cooking. We politely asked if we could receive a fresh pot of the same broth--not a different broth, just a new pot so we could continue enjoying our meal. Unfortunately, this request was also denied. The broth flavoring was also underwhelming and started to taste the same after our first refill. What made the experience disappointing was the lack of flexibility and willingness to accommodate reasonable requests, especially during a slow service period. Customer service and hospitality are an important part of the dining experience, and we left feeling that our concerns were dismissed rather than addressed.
