While the food and drink were delightful, the true star of this restaurant was our bartender, Ashley. He was consistently checking on us, without being overbearing, and never stopped cracking jokes. I've enjoyed DishDash's casual sister eatery, Dish N Dash, many times, but finally got around to trying this spot last month! My boyfriend and I dined in on a weeknight and made a reservation. It wasn't completely full but there was still a decent sized crowd for dinner. To start we shared the chicken shawarma hummus, which was excellent and super flavorful. The free bread they give you to start was also really tasty! The entree portions were way larger than I expected and we probably could have shared one plate, but at least we got to take home leftovers! I ordered the tabsi falafel and my boyfriend got the makloubeh with chicken. Both dishes were incredibly flavorful and had a variety of textures, which was great for someone like me who loves variety in a meal. I think I liked the flavor of the makloubeh just a bit more than the tabsi but both of them were great and I would eat both again. I'd also be interested in returning for some of the other dishes we didn't get to try this time. Service was friendly. I drove about 45 minutes from Castro Valley to try Dishdash, specifically for their shawarma. Unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from the start. When I arrived, the host didn't acknowledge me at first--no greeting or eye contact--until I spoke up. I was eventually seated, but the welcome felt very cold. A server came by shortly after with a pretty unfriendly attitude and asked if I was ready to order. I asked for a few minutes. Later, another staff member took my order, but when I asked for a shawarma wrap and knafeh, I was told the shawarma wrap wasn't available for dinner--even though it was only around 3 PM. The interaction felt dismissive, and overall I just didn't feel comfortable or welcomed. I decided not to order and asked to speak with a manager to share my experience, but there was no real response or effort to address the situation. No apology, no attempt to make things right. It's disappointing, especially after making the drive out. I hope they work on improving their customer service. read more

My husband and I are on the hunt for good Arab restaurants in the Bay Area since moving from Orange County. As a Palestinian American, I was excited to come across DishDash after an event nearby and decided to check it out. When we first walked in, I loved seeing the beautiful wall that highlights Palestinian culture. But once you step into the main dining space, the vibe shifts. It clearly caters more to a non-Arab audience. Not bad, just not what I was expecting based on the first impression. We ordered the combo kebab, the mezza for two, and the Za'taar with olive oil and bread. The bread was really good, and I had to pace myself to not get full off it. The Za'taar had a nice tang to it that I really liked. Both of us enjoyed the combo kebab, especially with the freekeh. The mezza was good, but the labneh was a little watery and the tabbouleh portion felt a bit small. Everything still tasted fresh. It's definitely on the pricier side, and you can tell it's aiming for more of a fine dining experience. The service was solid and we had no complaints. Loved all the food we got here!! First tip: do NOT fill up on the pita and zaatar dip they bring to the table (and they will keep bringing more). Order some appetizers -- the muhammara and toum are fantastic -- and make sure you use your bread allotment there. But also, you might like the pita to soak up some of the tasty sauces the main entrees come with. Everything is so delicious. The grilled meats have that wonderful grilled flaovr. The sea bass and lamb shank were incredibly tender. I loved absolutely everything we got. For five adults, we got three dips (one was hummus with lamb shawarma so that's a little heavier of an appetizer I guess) and three big entree plates, and that was about perfect. We got one of each of the carb options: seasoned potatoes (very tender and flavorful, creamy gold potatoes), rice, and freekeh (good bite/chew to it compared to the rice). Enjoyed all of it. The servers are also super nice and kept checking on us, making sure our pita basket was filled and even brought us a spicy sauce (very good!). I had dinner at DishDash on a Sunday evening and made a reservation ahead of time. We were given the choice of outdoor seating with heaters or indoors. The outdoor seating area was nice and the weather was lovely, so we enjoyed outdoor seating for our meal. We started with a few cold dips to start, which combined with constantly replenished warm bread, whetted our appetites. We ordered several main dishes: Mansaf, kebabs, and tabsi with a combination of sides: roasted potatoes and vegetables, basmati rice, and freekeh. All dishes were packed with flavors, the sides were all excellent complements (shout out to the crispy potatoes and toothsome freekeh), and the meats were all cooked wonderfully. Our server was amazing - I wish I had caught his name, but he was patient and checked in on us often. Our waters were never empty, and the waitstaff were all friendly. We shared the fattoush salad, tika kebab, and beriani dajaj. For dessert, we got the baklava crumble. The fattooush salad was good. The basil and mint made it especially fragrant. Loved the zaatar pita chips on top which added a nice crunch. Loved the tika kebab as well - the beef was charred nicely and tender. Beriani dajaj wasn't bad but not my favorite. I've had this dish several times here. It's a bit too heavy and dense for me. It would definitely be too heavy to eat if it were my only entree for myself, but I think this dish isn't bad if shared. I'll probably stick with the kebabs if I return. Baklava crumble was pretty good. The vanilla bean gelato had good flavor but I think the baklava being in crumble form gave it a soggy granola texture. I definitely prefer baklava on its own due to the flakiness so would probably skip the baklava crumble next time and just get the baklava (personal preference). read more

I ordered the lamb kebab, lamb shank, and crab falafel on the side. Everything was plated beautifully, and the flavors were rich and satisfying. They also give complimentary pita bread with a balsamic vinaigrette dip, which they'll happily refill. The vibe feels a little upscale with cozy lighting, great ambiance, and generous portions. We actually just finished clubbing at Pure Nightclub at a Bedby10 event, and this place looked so good and had really good ratings, and surprisingly had an open table. The lamb cubes were so tender and delicious, cooked perfectly medium rare. - Food came out really quickly - Nice service, they kept our waters filled - We got seated right away, got an outdoor table - Unique dishes - you can't really get anything similar to this level in the East Bay, so finding it in South Bay was really great - Fun but professional atmosphere! I live close by, and use to love coming to Dishdash for the lamb shanks, but the place has gotten so popular and usually the wait is so long, that we have not been here in a long time. Well on a Friday lunchtime in January, it was one of the only places with outdoor seating and therefore dog-friendly for my friend with her dog, so we came and were seated quickly. Prices -like everywhere- have gone up so much, so we chose some more casual lunch dishes instead of the full dinner entree. We got the crab falafel and a lamb Shawarma pita wrap. The food was quite good, if not fantastic. The crab falafel was like a middle eastern take on a crab cake, and the lamb shawarma was rich and flavorful, much more than the run of the mill shawarma or fast casual Greek place. It was juicy, full of veggies, and very good - all the food was obviously freshly made and hot out of the kitchen. Service left a little to be desired. Perhaps because we were outside, we felt a bit neglected by staff, having to request cutlery and water, even the menu and bill. Other than that it was a delicious meal. read more

But we were able to find parking 3 blocks up the street. We were warmly greeted and started off with some iced teas. I ordered the lamb shawarma with the house salad, which was so delicious. This restaurant is their flagship fine-dine version, while the other one in Sunnyvale called DishNDash is their casual, take-out, grab-and-go location. We've had lunch here so many times, and every time, we've left full and happy. They have ample space outdoors and inside, and the service is fast and friendly. It feels fancy but homely at the same time. On a recent visit, we tried our usual favorites - Beriani Dajaj (Chicken) and Tabsi (Chilean Sea Bass), and also tried a couple of new items - the Mansaf (Lamb) and Sambusak Dajaj. The lamb was okay, but the Chicken and Fish dishes were just fantastic. The Dajaj is a complete meal: the right combination of meat, rice, veggies - savory, sweet, tart, and immensely rich. The fish is so well cooked, and that eggplant sauce is delicious in the Tabsi. I also had a whiskey-based cocktail, which was very interesting. I don't know if it was the refreshing combination of rose water and mint, or the tamarind (?) rim, but The Souk was the smoothest cocktail I've ever ordered from any restaurant. I also ordered the Chicken Hummus, yellow rice, and more hummus. I couldn't get enough of how smooth and satisfying the hummus was so I ordered more along with the fresh, juicy chicken on top. The yellow rice was a perfect side order and came with enough for two people. Service was superior, we weren't waiting long before a server came to help us. The indoor seating is a tiny bit crowded but not a big deal; the bar was the most gorgeous part of the interior so I will definitely grab a seat there next time. The best part?
