We ordered the Sichuan dandan noodles which were great, and the Chongqing street noodles which were good but the noodles weren't as chewy for some reason. The homemade beef cake was served cold and was delicious. Service was friendly and fast once we were seated, though the owner forgot about the appetizer we'd ordered. My husband and I ordered the smashed cucumber appetizer, the shredded pork noodles with knife cut noodles, and the Szechuan dan dan noodles. We originally were going to get the seafood fried noodles, but the owner(?) uncle suggested the shredded pork noodles. I thought the exchange was really funny and cute since he spoke in limited English but conveyed to us that this was the "best". The food came out quickly- the shredded pork noodles were suggested to be eaten with the black vinegar on the table (this was in a bottle without any English labeling, but pretty obvious) and it definitely added a layer of flavor complexity to the dish. However, my husband and I both agreed that the Szechuan dan dan noodles was the better of the two. It had the mala flavor without being overly spicy, so we enjoyed it a lot. The cucumber appetizer was a cool, crisp, and refreshing contrast to our noodles. Seating is similar to that of a pho restaurant and it's very no frills- this is also located in a plaza with ample parking and no other East Asian food establishments (from what I saw). There wasn't any a/c in the restaurant but this was okay with us since it wasn't a super hot day, but I can see it getting pretty hot indoors. We came on a Sunday afternoon and got seated right away. This place is run by a sweet lady and who I can only presume is the chef in the back. We tried the beef rolls, celery and tofu skin, ground pork and eggplant noodles and lamb with quail egg noodle soup. All in all, everything was pretty good. The beef rolls are wrapped in something similar to mushu wraps instead of green onion pancakes like normal, and the celery and tofu skin was pretty good but a bit on the salty side. The noodles were very good, al dente and had a great chew. The eggplant and pork sauce was good, but I did wish there was something to lighten it up like some greens or cilantro. Many other reviews mention the eggplant, and for good reason! It's delicious. Basically like french fries, but healthier. Not too oily or greasy and perfect crispiness. I tried a bit of the E5 (fried oil noodle with pork) and the noodle was very nice and bouncy. The dandan mian was flavorful and delicious, but didn't have any meat or veggies in it. My spice tolerance level is "lao gan ma." I asked for it to be less spicy and it was just a littttle over my limit. The tables all come with wipes and hand sanitizer, so that was very nice of them. The four-person tables are a little too narrow for comfort. The owner is very enthusiastic and stands behind his product, but I can see how it would be overbearing for some people. He did a chair handstand for a table he was entertaining, so props to him! The waiter serving the dishes was super nice and responsive and working very hard to keep up with all the tables. read more

I have high expectations of the place because I really like knife cut noodles and the place looks legit. The owner even have the look of a knife cut noodle master (it's a Chinese urban legend that knife cut masters shave their heads). I believe that he was an ex-athlete. The wife or the waitress looked really familiar (I'm fairly certain I've seen her in another restaurant before). The service is friendly and pretty good. The place itself is in a strip mall that I knew about only because I used to live close by and there is a Mongolian BBQ place when I feel like having that. Anyways the place itself is decorated just like any other Chinese restaurant and it's not too small. The location is surprisingly popular among non Chinese so my view is strictly Chinese as someone who loves knife cut noodles and often goes to Shanxi for the authentic version. The biggest problem is the same with many other places in that the dough is not mixed (with force) enough times so the noodle feels soggy even if fresh. I know that it takes extra time and effort but that's literally the point of knife cut noodle. Pulled noodles can be pulled extra times but for knife cut noodles the dough needs to be mixed extra firm in order to be chewy in a noodle soup. I do like everything else including the hospitality and the service but I'm just disappointed with the noodle itself. Btw you can order extra noodle and they give you a lot. read more

My family had a nice dinner here while we were in the area for the world cup. I'm vegan and I ordered the mapo tofu noodles, and when I ordered I confirmed with the owner that this had no meat. However when they brought me my noodles there was ground meat in it, and when I asked the owner about it he immediately took it back and brought me a new one. He said this had never happened before, and I'm not exactly sure how it got mixed up, but the mapo tofu noodles are actually supposed to not have meat by default so it was a weird mistake. Once I got the correct dish, it was extremely delicious, I really loved the unique texture of the knife cut noodles, and the mapo tofu was very very flavorful. The rest of my family also enjoyed their noodles, I believe they all got meat soup dishes with knife cut noodles. Near the end of our meal the owner brought us free bananas for dessert, and when he saw that nobody was eating them, he then brought us plums, which we all ate, and put the bananas in a bag for us to take home. The owner was so nice the whole time and very sociable. He also did a calisthenics trick for us which was quite impressive given he said he was 69. They are located in the Tasman Square shopping complex in Sunnyvale, CA - corner of Lawrence expressway and Tasman Drive super close to the border of Santa Clara. Parking is not a problem at all. Open daily from 11 am - 10pm. When we got to the restaurant, there were only us and another table of a group of 3 and as soon as 12:30pm hit, the restaurant was packed. For this visit, we ordered the following: B9 - Salt and Pepper eggplant (my favorite and definitely a must order, their popular dish on the menu) L2 - Sichuan Style spicy soft wontons F1 - Egg Fried Rice A13 - Pork Spareribs with House Special Sauce Jasmine hot tea was complimentary Portions were generous, we had to take home the eggplant and fried rice and spicy soft wontons. We walked into an empty restaurant and was happily greeted by the proprietress who let us choose our table. They are known for their handmade noodles. Our party of three chose to share the Combination Chow Mein, $17.95, the Traditional Beef Tendon Noodle Soup, $15.95, and a plate of steamed dumplings. The Sichuan style of cooking we found out was an eclectic assortment of flavors from various seasonings ranging from spicy to sweet. The wonton noodles were clearly homemade, with that perfect al dente texture and bold flavors. The Salt and Pepper Eggplant was a "can't miss standout". Crispy outside and chewy inside. This is ranked up there with other eggplant dishes we've had. The flavorful Egg Fried Rice and Pork Spare Ribs became second string plates due to the impact of the first two dishes. We cleaned through the salt & pepper eggplant-- loved the salty crunchy toppings(fried flour?). Eggplant was hot & crispy! We also ordered the wonton in chili oil - spicy level cannot be adjusted LOL. Your usual standard. Then between the noodle with eggplant sauce and the Xiang Xiang noodle, I think the eggplant sauce one was better. The sauce just seemed richer. I hadn't visited this restaurant for quite some time, but I used to recommend it to friends as a great place for noodles. Unfortunately, my recent dinner here with my family was very disappointing. We ordered three noodle dishes, and all of them were served at room temperature--the soups weren't even properly hot. We also ordered the minced pork with eggplant, but the portion of ingredients was very small compared to the amount of noodles. It felt like I was mostly eating plain dough. Because the noodles were only lukewarm, the overall experience was quite unappetizing. The same issues applied to all three dishes we ordered. While the lady at the front acts nice, she's very passive aggressive and in the aggressive way that makes me feel like she doesn't respond well to pressure. But that wasn't really the problem.
