At the end of a long, hot day, my wife and I, wanting a break from cruise ship fare, sought out a meal that didn't require much thought. El Oasis del Holi was perfect for our needs. Their menu was just like every other one in the tourist zone. Fish or shrimp tacos, ceviche or aguachile, salads and fried stuff. A nice fresh coconut with lime and chile. All decent quality, all nicely prepared and plated, and all eminently forgettable. It seems that one of the rules of feeding people in the bubble is that Chef should not apply spice, herbs, sauce, or anything else that might surprise his guests. We walked and was seated at the far esge of the seating area with no light above us. There was barely enough light to see cigarette ash all over the table cloth. We ordered tostada's: octopus was good. Ordered shrimp but got marlin. The marlin was minced up that didn't leave a good taste in the mouth. The carne came with more beans than meat. The coconut shrimp was heavy bread and looked like from frozen. The rice on the late I could tell what flavor it was supposed to be. The service was poor. For the longest time I could not even see where our server was to ask about our food. You sit here long enough to easily smell the weed in the air. This very adorable restaurant was located right next to our condo in The Venetian, so we walked over in the evening for dinner with a good friend. When you walk in, your eyes don't know where to look as there are so many cute and fun decorations and bright colors. It just makes you feel happy. The waiters and owner were all so friendly and accomodating. We ordered the coconut shrimp, adobo shrimp & arrachera, all were delicious and good portions. The margaritas were classic and delicious as well. Prices are very reasonable too! We will definietely be back and will tell our friends to visit. read more

Nice walk on the beach before sunset to enjoy drinks and appetizers. The location is great for sunset. If your not in a hurry, you can relax here. We started with Drinks and Octopus tostadas. They were beautiful, fresh and delicious. Waiter was a bit confused after that and after ordering a second appetizer he kinda forgot about us. We enjoyed the sunset, but it was too dark to walk home by the time our Cheso fundido arrived when we asked the owner to help. A good not so touristy place for a quick bite on the beach. Located in the Zona Hotelra (hotel zone) this little beach shack is brimming with Vallarta character. The waiter was on top of it. Very friendly and courteous. The location is very unique. This little shack is situated between 2 high rise, high end condo complexes. The story is that the old lady that owns this prime piece of Puerto Vallarta real estate does not want to sell so we get to enjoy beach front breakfast on the cheap. The food is good. Hand made tortillas are a great treat. I had chilaquiles with a couple of eggs and my wife had a traditional American breakfast of eggs and bacon. Coffee was also spot on. El Oasis del Holi is a little beachside restaurant located near a few of the main resorts in Puerto Vallarta. We were able to walk down the beach and walk right up from the backside for lunch. The tables outside in the sand are covered and shaded so it wasn't too hot to enjoy. The service was very friendly and they took our order and cleared our plates very fast. The food was ok but I had a hard time justifying the quality with the prices. For our meal we had: 1. Guacamole Had good flavor and was served with a red hot sauce that was pretty spicy so be careful! 24. Aguachile shrimp This was similar to a cevice and very light. Was a nice appetizer to share. 46. Coconut shrimp This was pretty tasty, served in a pineapple. There were quite a few shrimp so might be able to share depending on how hungry you are. Nestled between a small stream and a big beachside hotel. This ocean front outdoor restaurant did not disappoint. El Oasis provides an authentic Mexican seafood dining experience. The only reason I gave this restaurant a 4 and not a 5 is because the view to the ocean is partially blocked with fencing and the menu is average. We have a home right next to this place and are sad to write this review as we have gone frequently and we do like. Food is good and yes, service can be slow BUT the reason for this poor review is this. Our check came to 1937 pesos = $93.53 USD. We went to the counter and gave them $110 US assuming they would give the $16.50 to our waiter (who was great) as the tip that we left FOR HIM! They turned around and handed our waiter 40 pesos!!! Just to be clear....that's is less than $2! We were obviously furious. They said they had their own "restaurant conversion" which made no sense at all and talked in circles. We demanded our money back, paid with a CC (didn't care about the fee at this point) and handed a $20 to our waiter. These local people work very hard and I can not support a place that blatantly screws the people that work for them. If you go here....TIP THE WAITERS DIRECTLY!!! If you give it to the cashier, they will only get a very small portion of it. It's maddening! read more

Then, the next day, someone at my hotel recommended the coconut shrimp & grilled pineapple, so I decided to try the restaurant. At first, it was a nice experience. Friendly host (Adrianna), nice outdoor oceanfront dining.. food tasted ok (not phenomenal) (also kind of expensive..). 4 hours later, I puked all my dinner up. Oh My God! Heaven on the beach! this is EXACTLY what a beach shack should be! Actual thatched hut roof that allowed just enough rain thru to be fun during lunch. The tacos and Cadillac margaritas were a perfect combo. The staff is really fun, joking about the weather and local foods. You have your feet in the sand while dining... and great views of the water. it is hooked to a turtle conservatory, so they were nice enough to show us baby turtles that had just hatched! they release them at might into the surf. They have a whole section where they relocate the eggs from the beach to protect them till they hatch. What a pleasant surprise and incredible experience! read more

We decided to try this restaurant as it was getting close to Sunset, and thought it would be a good place to dine and watch the sun go down over the ocean. Service was slow at first, but when the waiter finally arrived, seemed attentive, friendly, but kind of aloof. He really could care less if we were there or not and more interested in staying in the front side of the restaurant, rather than out by the covered area next to the beach. The food arrived. I had the coconut shrimp served in a pineapple shell. My wife had flank steak nachos that was also good meal. The problem came when we were finished eating. The waiter never came back to check on us and another waiter actually brought me another beer. finally he came back and I asked for my check. He joked and said that will be 1 million pesos. He laughed and continued working, picking up the glasses from other tables and talking with the coworkers looking at the sunset and then he left. He was another 15 minutes before he came back with my check. We paid the bill in pesos because they didn't take credit cards. We were upset with the service and the way we were treated by the waiter so we gave him a small tip like 40 pesos. He looked at his tip and gave a comment to my wife and I went back and said what did you say. He said "as hard as I worked I only get two dollars tip." I told him you got what you deserved and you're lucky to get anything. Needless to say we won't be back to that place. It was about 45 minutes. Between the time we finished and the time he finally brought us our bill. If there's good service, I have no problem giving 25% tip. This guy was terrible, and a joke to be called a waiter. This place was walking distance to Villa Del Palmar which was very convenient. Really cool that you could put your feet in the sand to eat. Pros: -live music (American band/music) -beautiful setting on beach -close to resorts Cons: -food was not good -it was the same price as the resorts -bathroom was not clean This would be a good place to take a break from the resorts safely and have beers and listen to music with friends. Wow, what a dissappointment. We were in PV three years ago and this place rocked, but in the three long years since then they have really deteriorated. We gave it a couple tries this time, hoping that the first was an anamoly, but it was the same both times. Service was substandard (I hestitate to say rude, but that is probably the best description) and the food was very mediocre by Puerto Vallarta standards. We stopped by here because my friend I was traveling with saw it had good reviews. It's a small, outdoor restaurant right on the beach. Literally, feet in the sand. (love it)! Our waiter was from California (like we are!) and spoke really good English with a California accent. Ha. This place has the BEST Tortilla Soup EVER. I tried the Tortilla soup everywhere I went in PV, and this place has hands down the best EVER. Not even kidding. It was so amazing. The fruit plate was also bomb. I came back another day and had their fries, which were super crunchy and cut thick. Love their food. The waitstaff were all super nice too. Oh, another tip - they have baby sea turtles hatching right next to the restaurant so we got to help the baby sea turtles out into their ocean home. Super cool experience. read more

The only reason why I give this place 1 star is the live music. The rock band that plays here is on point, and they know all the classics. Great view of the entire Bandera Bay and its on the beach! The place is next to the Holiday Inn, hence the name "Holi." The service was terrific and the food was delicious. Best mochahete (sp?) we have ever had. We stayed next door at the Peninsula and wandered over our first night of vacation. The setting is amazing right on the sand with the waves crashing so close. Waiters were friendly and attentive. Even made a fruit plate for our picky son. Ask for the salsa picante if you like spicy salsa. Shrimp burrito was yummy and nachos hit the spot. Everyone left full and happy. We went back again a week later for a table full of mochahete since we realized that the leftovers make the best egg scrambles. Add this restaurant to your must go list.
